Jay-Z And Kid Cudi’s ‘Guns Go Bang’ Collaboration Is A Standout On ‘The Harder They Fall’ Soundtrack

Jay-Z has been flexing his artistic talents in all kinds of directions of late, and his latest project is a Western film called The Harder They Fall. Jay-Z co-produced the film alongside James Lassiter. It was directed and written by Jeymes Samuel and stars a massive roster of talent including Idris Elba, Jonathan Majors, Regina King, Delroy Lindo and LaKeith Stanfield. And what’s one of the best perks when Jay-Z produces your film? He can help out with the soundtrack, too, no problem.

The film is in theaters now, but will be heading to Netflix next week, on November 3, so tonight was the perfect time to drop the soundtrack. The tracklist is packed with appearances from Jay himself and other hip-hop royalty like Lauryn Hill, Jadakiss, Seal, Kid Cudi and Koffee — and, unfortunately, CeeLo Green also appears. But the high points are worth it, like Cudi and Jay together on “Guns Go Bang,” and Jay-Z, Jadakiss, Conway The Machine and BackRoad Gee connecting on “King Kong Riddim.” The contribution from Koffee, which amounts to the title track, is also a stunning addition to the packed roster.

ASAP Rocky’s Breakout Mixtape ‘Live.Love.ASAP’ Is Now Available To Stream

For artists who broke out right when the streaming era was approaching, figuring out when and how to get old releases up on the platforms can take time. Or, for rappers who spent their early years releasing free mixtapes, sometimes the process of clearing samples and getting music totally legal is part of the delay, too. Either way, ASAP Rocky delighted fans recently when he let them know that his very first project, Live.Love.ASAP was officially going to be added to streaming services. The date he chose may be more for posterity than anything else, though. It’s been exactly ten years since the project was released, so now he’s letting a wider group of listeners have access to the tape that helped put him on the map.

After a rough 2019, when he faced a stint in prison in Sweden, Rocky has been doing better than ever of late. Long-standing rumors that he was dating Rihanna finally manifested, and the pair appear to be going very strong. Actually, do I even need to list anything else going on in his life or career aside from that fact? It kind of speaks for itself. Let’s just say his latest collab with Maxo Kream is solid as well, and this look from the Red Hot Chili Peppers isn’t a small thing, either.

Big Sean And Hit-Boy Connect For The Fiery ‘What You Expect’ EP

Though Hit-Boy has always been one of the most respected producers in the game, he’s really been on a streak lately. After producing not one but two projects with Nas that helped catapult the veteran New York rapper back into the realm of modern hip-hop heroes, now he’s connected with Detroit’s Big Sean for a new EP. You’d think with King’s Disease II coming out just a few short months ago the producer might rest on his laurels for a moment, but no.

Rolling out the collaboration slowly with a new single called “What A Life” a few days ago, today the duo announced that song was the lead-off for a whole EP, and now that project is here, too. Sharing another video for the stacked collaboration, “Loyal To A Fault,” with cameos from Bryson Tiller and Lil Durk, the new EP’s tracklist also includes performances from Babyface Ray and 42 Dugg, but no one else. Clearly, it will be primarily focused on how Sean and Hit-Boy vibe together. Of course, some of the best songs off Sean’s latest album Detroit 2 were when Hit-Boy was involved, but this new song collection emphasizes that more than ever.

Baby Tate’s ‘Pedi’ Ushers In A New Era For The Young Rapper

2021 has been good to Baby Tate. After announcing her name change earlier this month — dropping from the “Yung” from Baby Tate — the rapper is celebrating a transition to a new record label with a brand new single and video. Previously signed to Issa Rae’s Atlantic-backed Raedio label, Tate will now be releasing music through Warner Records, and her first new song is a celebration of all things petty. A play on the word “Pedi,” as in short for pedicure, the rapper twerks and interrupts plenty of events throughout the chaotic video. “I’m pettier/pedier than my toes,” she raps on one of the verses sandwiched between the song’s speedy hook.

Earlier this year she told Uproxx in a cover story that helping others feel comfortable with themselves is part of why she puts herself out there so boldly. “I’ve always been a bold, out in the open person as long as I feel comfortable. I’ve always wanted to allow other people to know that it’s okay to be themselves too. I just like to laugh and make people laugh and have a good time in life because YOLO.”

YOLO indeed! Check out the new video for “Pedi” above and look out for a lot more coming from this young talent very soon.

Drake Didn’t Submit Anything From ‘Certified Lover Boy’ For Record Or Song Of The Year

Speculation about Grammy voting and nominations is at a all all-time high right now, as early ballots are being submitted and fans are left to wonder how the awards will shake out this year. Over the last decade or so, the backlash against seemingly-random nominations and wins that are completely out of step with critical and commercial success has grown. Artists like The Weeknd have opted not to submit their work to the Recording Academy at all, and one of the most popular rappers in the world, Drake, has also been vocal about his disappointment with the selections in the past. So fans were interested to see what, if anything, he would submit off this year’s Certified Lover Boy, and the answer is? None of the big categories for any single track, like Song Of The Year and Record Of The Year.

According to a report from Variety, Drizzy submitted “Way 2 Sexy” for best rap performance, “Girls Want Girls” for best melodic rap performance, and “No Friends in the Industry” for best rap song. He also submitted Certified Lover Boy for Album Of The Year, so he’s still in the game for that big award, just not the song ones. Check out more of Variety‘s unpacking of Grammy submissions process here.

Twitch Announces A Streaming Partnership With T-Pain With ‘I’m Cool With That’

T-Pain was on Twitch well before it was cool. While Twitch had been in use for years among video game fans, it was not a place that celebrities typically hung out like it is now. These days it’s not uncommon for famous athletes, actors, or musicians to be seen hanging out on Twitch playing a game and interacting with their community. T-Pain, on the other hand, was doing it originally as just something to do in his free time. He’d play games, show off new music, and just hang out.

These days, Twitch is almost as much of a job as his music career for him. He’s an extremely popular streamer with thousands of people tuning into his streams live or watching the VODs after he’s wrapped up. Twitch saw his popularity and got in contact with him. Now, T-Pain and Twitch have formed a partnership where his presence on the site will be even more visible. He’s kicking off his partnership with an exclusive listening party on his Twitch channel for his new single “I’m Cool With That.”

“This partnership means that I have been seen,” T-Pain said. “With so little representation on the service previously, the fact that Twitch came to me means that they actually see our community and understand the value of our contribution to the streaming world. We’ve been hosting beat battles and collaborative sessions for years… ‘I’m Cool With That’ is a combination of some of those efforts and was the first song created and released with my community, and I hope this is just the start of a journey Twitch and I are about to go on to uplift and strengthen the music community on Twitch.”

The upcoming listening party will be where T-Pain further breaks down the new track and shares details about other aspects of his partnership, such as monthly “Post Ya Song” and “Post Ya Beat” reviews from community producers. It’s really cool to see this kind of opportunity for T-Pain considering that he was one of the first well-known names to really embrace Twitch. Now he has a partnership and his community gets to watch his streams become even bigger.

This is another big step for Twitch as well, as the platform continues to try and show it’s for more than just video games. Twitch will always be about video games first and foremost, but the platform has not shied away from growing to become something even bigger. Lucky for them, T-Pain not only represents the video game side of the platform but the music side as well. He’s the perfect choice for this partnership.

Robert Glasper And Terrace Martin Are Staging A ‘Dinner Party’ Global Livestream This Weekend

A four-time Grammy winner, Robert Glasper fluidly straddles the world of jazz, hip-hop and R&B with vigor and class. Last year’s Dinner Party EP with multi-instrumentalist Terrace Martin, saxophonist Kamasi Washington and hip-hop producer 9th Wonder brought Glasper together with like-minded eclectics for one of the best releases of the year. Now, Glasper and Martin have announced a global livestream of a Dinner Party performance going down tomorrow in the U.S. and Saturday in Europe and Australia.

The performance sees an opportunity for fans worldwide who can’t attend Glasper’s ongoing Blue Note jazz club residency in New York City, to engage with his music in a visually stunning, high-fidelity environment presented in 4K UHD and Dolby Atmos sound. Joining Glasper and Martin, are decorated New Orleans trumpet player Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, along with bassist Burniss Travis, drummer Justin Tyson, and DJ Jahi Sundance, who make up the Robert Glasper Trio backing band. Glasper shared some thoughts on the performance in a statement:

“I’m really excited for people to see these shows. People have been asking when I’m coming to their city but I can’t travel everywhere right now, obviously. It was a really cool experience to perform in the space with 3D screens. It looked kind of trippy and fun while we were recording, so I’m looking forward to watching it again and being able to experience it with fans that can’t see me live right now. I hope they have as much fun watching it as we did while recording it.”

The collective played a show together last month, which is also currently available, and both streams will be available for on-demand viewing now until November 30 via On Air. Glasper/Martin Presents Dinner Party happens 10/29 at 8 pm ET and 8 pm PT as well as on 10/30 in London and Sydney at 8 pm in each region. Tickets can be purchased here and the performance will be available On Demand until 11/30.

Mozzy And Kalan.FrFr Lure Beach Bunnies With Ice Cream In Their ‘Whole 100’ Video

After Mozzy made a whole album with YG earlier this year, the Sacramento native once again taps in with a Compton star in the video for “Whole 100” from his new album, Untreated Trauma. The video sees Mozzy and Kalan.FrFr operating an ice cream truck, which helps put them in contact with baddies at the beach, as well as the usual assortment of block-bound misfits. With an upbeat and lighthearted tone, it’s something of a departure for the usually serious-minded Mozzy but Kalan.FrFr helps make this one a party-ready good-times anthem.

Thanks to Mozzy and YG’s collaborative effort, Kommunity Service, and Untreated Trauma, Mozzy’s profile is higher than ever. Not only has he become something of a fixture of West Coast turn-up joints like “Perfect Timing,” “Vibe With You,” “Gangsta,” and “Dangerous,” but now his name rings enough bells to get put on songs with hitmakers like Eminem and Polo G — Skylar Grey’s “Last One Standing” features all three. Untreated Trauma is Mozzy’s highest-charting album yet, peaking at No. 19 on the Billboard 200.

Meanwhile, Kalan is having something of a breakout year himself after dropping his debut album TwoFr 2 in March. That led to him starting to land more placements, while his UPROXX Sessions performance of album cut “Never Lose You” has generated impressive buzz for the West Coast rising star.
