SCY Jimm Is Feeling “Highly Favored” On His Second Album Of 2023

While SCY Jimm has plenty of music to check out on all DSPs HNHH has not had the chance to cover him too often. We first covered the Bunnell, Florida rapper a few weeks ago on a single with another rapper who is also getting a lot of attention right now. “Ain’t Original” saw him and the eccentric BLP Kosher team up for a single with plenty of personality and energy. Both have their own respective and signature sounds already, giving them a leg up on the rest of the new faces to rap.

The ROOKIE OF THE YEAR already has a project out for this year with Trench Baby. That record came out back on April 14 and it was purely a solo project. For a rapper who is just trying to make a name for themselves, tackling a full LP with no features is a daunting task, but he managed to do it. Jimm is riding this wave with Highly Favored.

Maxo Delivers His Second LP Of The Year With “Debbie’s Son”

One of the rappers who is doing it a bit differently from the rest of Los Angeles talents is Maxo. Born In 1995, Maximillian Allen, is specifically from Ladera Heights, California, according to his Genius annotation. As a few rappers have, their first true passion was sports. The same rang true for Maxo, as he was really into playing basketball growing up. However, that all changed for him when his brother, who used to go by Sharp, got him into making music.

He does not rap anymore, but it had a lasting impact on Maxo. Things began to pick up career-wise in 2015 when he put out his first-ever project, After Hours. The EP was released under an Alaskan cassette label called Burnt Tapes. After gaining some momentum off of that release, he then hopped over to another label called LOVETURL. There, he put out his second release, SMILE, three years later.

Listen To Debbie’s Son From Maxo

He then joined Def Jam Records in 2019. His big turning point, Maxo capitalized right away putting out LIL BIG MAN. To this day, he remains on the label and he has a new listen for his fans. Debbie’s Son comes after his release from earlier this year, Even God Has A Sense Of Humor. Maxo specializes in more lo-fi soundscapes compared to the more bouncy and modern productions coming out of the West Coast. His profound lyrics are also another key identifier for him and he is taking this philosophy as far as he can.

What are your initial thoughts on this new album from Maxo, Debbie’s Son? Which track are you enjoying the most off of this project so far? Is he one of the best underground rappers from Los Angeles? BIA Tacks On Seven Additional Songs, Gives Us “REALLY HER (INTL DELUXE)”

BIA is in a crowded field of female rappers. There are so many fresh new faces on the scene and with that comes every one of them battling to be unique. Some are either going to come out of the pack and grab a lot of listeners’ attention, or fall to the wayside. Things really did not pop off for her until about late 2020 to 2021. But, she has been releasing music to streaming since 2016. ShittyBoyz Finalize Their Collaborative Series With New Album “Trifecta 3: The Finale”

If you’re caught up with Detroit hip-hop, then the name ShittyBoyz should hold a special place in your heart. Moreover, the trio consisting of BabyTron, TrDee, and StanWill aren’t just prolific, but also endlessly entertaining with vibrant, fast beats, rapid-fire flows, and comical punchlines. While each artist is on their own path (Tron dropped various projects this year, including the 6 mixtape), their chemistry is often too good to pass up. As such, they just dropped Trifecta 3: The Finale, the last installment in their series of collaborative Trifecta projects. Hopefully that doesn’t mean that they won’t drop more full-lengths together in the future.

After all, their similar vocal tones and styles make this quite the consistent and straightforward listen. The more you tune in, you start to distinguish more elements between each of the ShittyBoyz while picking up their bars. What’s more is that it’s not all just non-stop spitting: tracks like “Mosh Pit” harden their drum tones to make more of a… well, mosh pit banger. It’s quite the lengthy LP at 20 tracks total, but features from Bfb Da Packman, YSR Gramz, and GrindHard E refresh the pallet towards the end.

Trifecta 3: The Finale By ShittyBoyz: Stream

Detroit is a fantastic scene for rap right now across many styles, and BabyTron, TrDee, and GrindHard E are among the faces at the forefront of this movement. If you haven’t heard Trifecta 3 yet, find it on your preferred streaming service and peep the tracklist below. Also, log back into HNHH for more on ShittyBoyz and the latest great hip-hop releases.

Headie One & K-Trap Drop “STRENGTH TO STRENGTH” Mixtape Feat. Clavish

It’s been an all-around good year in terms of new hip-hop releases, though things have notably heated up in the last half of 2023. We’re still awaiting Drake’s For All The Dogs and Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2, but we’ve already heard impressive efforts from Gunna, Young Thug, Lil Uzi Vert, and Travis Scott, just to name a few. This weekend we’ve heard from quite a few talented artists, including 2Rare, Money Man, Headie One, and K-Trap.

The latter duo teamed up for a 10-track effort called STRENGTH TO STRENGTH, which officially hit DSPs this past week. The only guest feature to appear on the mixtape is Clavish, who shows his lyrical prowess on “TRIPLE THREAT.” The trio linked up to film an accompanying visual which perfectly matches the themes explored by the rappers throughout their verses.

On the final verse, Trap closes things out with “Each one teach one, and takin’ tips / You ain’t on takin’ risks / If it goes well, then we’re changin’ dings.” Besides the joint effort, we also saw “PARK CHINOIS” and “CATFISH” arrive as early singles from the UK-bred stars’ impressive mixtape. So far, “TRENDING TOPIC” and “GOOD GIRLS…” have also emerged as fan favourites.
