Future & Metro Boomin “We Still Don’t Trust You”: What We Know

After unleashing their collaborative album just three weeks ago, Future and Metro Boomin are back with more music. We Don’t Trust You arrived on March 22, marking the duo’s first full-length album after a decade of prolific collaborations. The album was favorably receieved and shook the hip hop universe with Kendrick Lamar’s guest verse on “Like That.” Future and Metro Boomin began promoting the album just a month ago, announcing two separate release dates

We Don’t Trust You has already made a sizable impact on hip hop, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200. Even with the album’s immediate success, Future and Metro Boomin are gearing up to release a follow-up, We Still Don’t Trust You this coming Friday, April 12. “Job’s not finished,” Metro tweeted, teasing fans about the upcoming release. The last time Future dropped consecutive albums was in 2017 when FUTURE and HNDRXX arrived one week apart. As we continue to digest We Don’t Trust You and anticipate its sequel, here is what we know so far about We Still Don’t Trust You.

An Entirely New Album From Future and Metro Boomin

While it has only been three weeks since We Don’t Trust You, Future and Metro Boomin are striking while the iron is still hot. Some speculated that the April 12 release was a deluxe version of its predecessor. However, Metro Boomin confirmed it to be an entirely new album. “This is not a deluxe. This is a completely separate body of work,” the producer clarified. In another tweet, he continued to promote his and Future’s upcoming release. “The brand new album from Metro Pluto,” the tweet reads. Much like its precursor, We Still Don’t Trust You will be released via Epic, Republic, Future’s Freebandz, and Metro’s Boominati Worldwide labels. We can expect brand new material from Future and Metro Boomin on Friday as they continue their creative hot streak.

The Trailer for We Still Don’t Trust You

Future and Metro Boomin built further anticipation for We Still Don’t Trust You by sharing the album’s trailer. “Job’s not finished,” Metro captioned the video, hinting that the pair will continue to build on their collaborative chemistry. The trailer sees Future and Metro donning white suits. Metro also wears a white baseball cap while Future covers his face with a white mask and sunglasses. The cryptic video cuts between shots of the duo in both black and white suits. Visually, the white attire contrasts the fashion seen on their previous album cover.

The Official Album Artwork

Earlier today, Future and Metro Boomin revealed the official album artwork for We Still Don’t Trust You. The black and white cover features four panels, with two of the rapper and the other two of the producer. Consistent with the theme of its trailer, the album cover suggests a distinction between Future and Metro in white outfits versus black suits. The suits can be associated with the We Don’t Trust You artwork while their blurry white outfits mysteriously hint at what is yet to come. The duality between white and black in the trailer and on this cover may suggest a difference in aesthetic or indicate a potentially new artistic direction of the album. If that is indeed the case, then it is possible that We Still Don’t Trust You could be the HNDRXX to We Don’t Trust You’s FUTURE.

Potential Tracks

Neither Future nor Metro Boomin have shared a tracklist for We Still Don’t Trust You. Currently, its titles, length, and runtime are still unknown. Fans did get a sneak peak at the tracklist last week in a recently shared photo from Metro Boomin. Pictured off to the side is a portion of the album’s tracklist, with the top reading We Still Don’t Trust You. Potential track names include “Bounce,” “This Sunday,” “Beat It,” and “Out of My Hands.” So far, no guest features have revealed their involvement in the album. It is important to note that the features on We Don’t Trust You were initially uncredited, so the inclusion of other artists may come as a surprise on first listen. The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, Kendrick Lamar, and Rick Ross each contributed vocals to the album, adding extra excitement to the listening experience.

Ultimately, we will find out about any potential guests when the album drops on Friday. So far, this is all we know for now about Future and Metro Boomin’s upcoming album. Be sure to check back in with HotNewHipHop for the latest updates regarding We Still Don’t Trust You.

Machine Gun Kelly & Trippie Redd Announce Collab Tape, Haters Anticipate “Worst Project Of The Year”

Machine Gun Kelly is an artist who has delved into numerous genres throughout his career. Overall, he started out making hip-hop music. However, he eventually transitioned over to the world of pop punk. While some of his fans have enjoyed this, the general public hasn’t been too generous to his new musical stylings. Offset, 21 Savage & Metro Boomin’s “Without Warning”: An Homage To Horrorcore

Horrorcore rap is considered a niche but as a subgenre, it’s left an indelible impact on hip-hop with some of the biggest stars often paying homage to its pioneers. Hardcore fans of horrorcore are typically ecstatic by these tributes, even if they’re subtle. But besides the horror-inspired Three 6 Mafia, Eminem, and a handful of others, the terrifying themes of the occult, satanism, and death aren’t common in mainstream hip-hop. That was why the album, Without Warning, felt like a breath of fresh air.

The album was a collaborative effort between rappers Offset and 21 Savage, and producer Metro Boomin. On Without Warning, the trio pay their respects to the niche genre and do so without making a mockery of it. In the years since it was released, the album has aged quite well. Nowadays, it is largely considered a modern-day classic that emphasizes the sounds, textures, and themes that make horrorcore such a riveting subgenre.

An Unexpected Halloween Treat

Without Warning was released on October 31, 2017. The album is aptly titled, as it was announced barely an hour before it arrived. This came after a full day of teasers on the artists’ Instagram stories. Later that night, Epic Records shared the cover art of the project, while also announcing its three collaborators. This surprise release strategy evidently generated immense excitement and curiosity among fans of the artists. Moreover, releasing Without Warning on Halloween was a strategic move, capitalizing on the holiday spirit. It added a thematic element that was very much in line with the album itself.

The Horror-Inspired Themes on Without Warning

On the whole, Without Warning is a trap album. The collaboration aimed to merge Offset and 21 Savage’s distinct styles with Metro Boomin’s signature trap-infused production. However, upon closer inspection, there’s much more to the album than just trap. Without Warning is characterized by its dark, atmospheric production, and haunting beats typically characteristic of horrorcore rap. Metro Boomin set the moody and often eerie tone from its very first track, “Ghostface Killers.”

The production also features heavy basslines, brooding melodies, and punchy rhythms. These instrumentals provided a perfect backdrop for the gritty lyrics and delivery of Offset and 21 Savage. Lyrically, Without Warning delves into themes such as street life, wealth, fame, and the struggles of coming from difficult circumstances. Offset and 21 Savage’s verses are often raw and unapologetic, reflecting their personal experiences.

However, the lyrics never go quite as violent or macabre as those from death rap artists like Tech N9ne or Brotha Lynch Hung. Nonetheless, the horrorcore influences are evident, especially on tracks like “Nightmare.” In summary, Without Warning is more notable for the undertones of horrorcore infused in its beats and lyrics. The album excellently executes this, paying homage to the genre, while never fully diving into its waters.

A Spooky Success Beyond Halloween

Without Warning received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised its cohesive sound, sharp lyricism, and production. The surprise release strategy generated significant buzz, adding to the album’s impact. Subsequently, it debuted and peaked at number four on the Billboard 200 chart. Of the ten songs on Without Warning, six songs charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, with “Ric Flair Drip” being the most successful. It was released as the sole single from the album and peaked at number 13 on the chart.

The album’s become synonymous with Halloween due to both its grim sound and the release date. However, it has impacted the music scene far beyond Halloween 2017. It continues to receive significant stream numbers even six years after its release. It is widely considered to be a successful collaborative project that effectively highlighted the talents of the musical trio. With Halloween 2023 just around the corner, Hip Hop fans are sure to return to this horror-inspired album.

Memphis Bleek Says JAY-Z Isn’t Interested In Doing A Collaborative Album

Memphis Bleek says that he is still trying to convince JAY-Z to team up for a collaborative album, but he doesn’t think it will happen. He discussed the possibility during a recent interview with TMZ.

“I’m on that boat too. I wish!” he told the outlet when asked about the idea. From there, he admitted that he still doesn’t think it will happen. “I don’t think so. Hov too far gone, man! I was supposed to try this when he had $100 million, not a billion. When you got a billion, it’s hard to get you in the booth. Only his wife can do it.”

Despite the odds being unlikely, Bleak is still holding out hope that his persistence will pay off. “Hold it ’cause I’m trying. I still send him joints, I get shot down like a clay pigeon,” he joked. “But something gon’ stick one day, ya know? But if we could drop an EP together, that would be — c’mon, that would close off the whole trilogy of the ‘Coming of Age’ story. [Fans] need something classic.” Check out the interview below.

Memphis Bleak Discusses Working With JAY-Z

The pair grew up in Brooklyn’s Marcy Projects and first worked together on JAY-Z’s Reasonable Doubt song, “Coming of Age.” JAY-Z previously reflected on his friendship with Memphis Bleek in his 2010 book Decoded. “I collared him and said, ‘Look, I’m making an album and you can be on it, but you have to learn this song in 24 hours. You don’t learn it, then you’re not on it,’” Jay recalled. “He took the paper I handed him and looked it over. I’d written the verse down for him in some chicken scratch… He came to my apartment the next day and spit the whole thing like he’d been doing it his whole life.”

Boldy James & Cuns Unleash Collaborative Album, “Be That As It May”

Griselda’s Detroit representative has established himself as one of the greatest lyricists working today with four excellent albums this year. Boldy James has just dropped his fourth collab of the year, Be That As It May with Cuns. Moreover, the Italian producer takes a lush and boom-bap-heavy approach to matching Boldy’s lyricism. In fact, the previous single “Foot Prints,” with its grand samples and hard-hitting percussion, was a great sonic indicator of the greatness to come.

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA – FEBRUARY 01: Boldy James of The Alchemist x Boldy James performs during the NBA Leather tour at The Warfield on February 01, 2022 in San Francisco, California. (Photo by Tim Mosenfelder/Getty Images)

Still, this album does have its surprises. Cuns’ production is a bit more crisp, orchestral, and rooted in ’90s era hip-hop when it comes to sample choices and sequencing. While albums like Mr. Ten08 took things in an electronic or contemporary direction on occasion, the production here is rooted in soulful styles. If anything, it goes to show the 40-year-old MC’s consistent versatility, appeal, and quality.

Moreover, Bo’s been on a hot streak. Over the past twelve months, he released Super Tecmo Bo with The Alchemist, Killing Nothing with Real Bad Man, Fair Exchange No Robbery with Nicholas Craven, and Mr. Ten08 with Futurewave. In fact, he dropped Be That As It May almost exactly a year after his 2021 Alchemist collab. What’s more is that they’re all excellent.

Across this album in particular, Boldy is both a fantastic narrator for life experiences and a consistently confident spitter. His descriptions are intricate, his wordplay is creative yet grounded, and his delivery is so engaging that you won’t notice a flow switch-up. In other words, it’s smooth as butter, and the grueling themes in “Earned Not Given” and “God Speed” come through vividly. It’s all made for some of the best albums of the year.

What did you think of this album and the Detroit MC’s run this year? Do you have a favorite? Are you looking forward to that J Dilla-produced project? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments. If you have to catch up, peep the tracklist below and find Be That As It May by Boldy James and Cuns on your preferred streaming service. Bun B &Statik Selektah Release “Trillstatik 2”

Two hip-hop heavy-hitters from different scenes have joined forces once again. Bun B and Statik Selektah have teamed up for their latest collaborative project, Trillstatik 2. Along with Bun’s Houston drawl and charisma and Statik’s classy East Coast production, there’s a host of amazing features. Some have returned from their first album together, like Big K.R.I.T, Smoke DZA, Haile Supreme, Termanology, and Paul Wall. Also, there are new exciting names like Boldy James, Dave East, Styles P, 38 Spesh, and Papoose.

While this release is surely exciting and successful for the Houston icon, it’s also a time of sad reminiscence. Recently, Bun B posted on Instagram on the 15-year anniversary of his partner Pimp C’s tragic passing. He wrote a touching message for his fellow UGK star, acknowledging how making music has been different for him ever since.

“Not a day goes by that I don’t feel the loss,” he expressed. “I just find better ways to cope with it. Missed and loved but appreciated for the time we did have with you. Your spirit lives on in your music and your legacy lives on through your kids. The trillest ever born. They’ll never be another. Love you bro. And it’s still UGK For Life! #LongLiveThePimp.

“I haven’t really enjoyed making music since Pimp passed away,” he confessed to HipHopDX earlier this year. “And so now that I get to make music with friends and I’m not under any contractual obligation, I make music because I want to not because I have to, so it’s a different experience for me. For me, it just has to be fun or I’m not going to do it. I just don’t want to do it.”

Meanwhile, the fun and passion really comes through on Trillstatik 2. For example, the beats are lush and structured to perfection, with Statik slowing down his New York sound just a bit for Bun’s flow. The variety of guests on the project also makes it feel like a dynamic listen. However, maybe the most mind-blowing part about this album is that it was recorded and streamed live from scratch on December 7th. What’s more is that Bun B teases a third installment on the very last track.

Also, you’ll probably recognize a few great samples on this record that you’ve heard on other gems this year. For example, “In My Hand” has the same sample as redveil’s “pg baby” from this year’s excellent learn 2 swim. Moreover, on the lyrical end, Bun B’s as sharp as ever. He’s demonstrated his evergreen skill on other cuts like this year’s “BULLETZ AND BROKEN GLASS” with RJ Payne and fellow legend Ice-T.

What did you think of this album? Let us know in the comments below. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you can find Bun B and Statik Selektah’s Trillstatik 2 on your preferred streaming service. Also, check out the tracklist below and stay tuned to HNHH for the latest drops from the game’s greatest.
