The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced today that the 2025 Met Gala will be co-chaired by Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour, with LeBron James serving as honorary chair. According to Vogue, the star-studded event will occur on May 5, 2025, with the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, as its centerpiece.

Inspired by Monica L. Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, the exhibition will showcase garments, paintings, photographs, and more, highlighting the influential style of Black men from the 18th century to the present day.

The Met Gala, chaired by Wintour since 1995, has long been one of fashion’s most anticipated events. The 2025 edition will focus on the enduring legacy of Black fashion and culture. The exhibition will open to the public on May 6 and run through October 26, 2025. The official dress code will be revealed in early 2025, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening of fashion and culture.

Pharrell And ASAP Rocky Will Serve As Co-Chairs For The 2025 Met Gala

Pharrell and ASAP Rocky are among several celebrities who will serve as co-chairs for the upcoming 2025 Met Gala. The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced the group as well as the event’s theme on Wednesday afternoon. Rocky and Pharrell will be joined by Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, and Anna Wintour as co-chairs with LeBron James serving as an honorary chair. The title of the event will be “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”

“The Costume Institute’s spring 2025 exhibition will present a cultural and historical examination of the Black dandy, from the figure’s emergence in Enlightenment Europe during the 18th century to today’s incarnations in cities around the world,” the exhibition’s description reads. “… Historically, the term dandy was used to describe someone—often a man—who is extremely devoted to style and approaches it as a discipline. Dandyism was initially imposed on Black men in 18th-century Europe as the Atlantic slave trade and an emerging culture of consumerism created a trend of fashionably dressed, or dandified, servants.”

ASAP Rocky & Rihanna Attend The 2023 Met Gala

The announcement for Pharrell comes ahead of the release of his highly-anticipated new film, Piece by Piece, which hits theaters later this week. The animated biographical film will tell the story of Pharrell’s life and career through Legos. Gwen Stefani, Kendrick Lamar, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z, and Snoop Dogg all lent their voices to the project.

ASAP Rocky, on the other hand, is preparing for the release of his highly-anticipated fourth studio album, Don’t Be Dumb. He originally planned to drop back in August but delayed the project. Cardi B Fires Back Amid Backlash For Forgetting Designer’s Name At Met Gala

Earlier this week, Cardi B turned heads at the 2024 Met Gala in a massive jaw-dropping black gown. Unfortunately, however, she forgot who designed it when asked on the carpet. During a chat with Emma Chamberlain, Cardi hyped up the incredible dress, describing the designer as “Asian and everything.” The mind behind the dress was Chinese designer Sensen Lii of Windowsen, though the name escaped the femcee at the time.

As expected, the forgotten name got Cardi quite a bit of backlash online, including from Vogue‘s former managing director Gilbert Cheah. Some social media users even accused her of being racist by chalking the designer up to his ethnicity. In a new clip, Cardi B addressed the situation, coming to her own defense. According to her, she had a lot on her mind as she made her way down the carpet alongside her seven dress holders, and simply forgot how to pronounce Lii’s name.

Moreover, Cardi claims to have described Lii as “Asian” because she wasn’t sure of his nationality and didn’t want to get it wrong. She says that her intention wasn’t to offend anybody, but the outrage over the moment has since taken away from all of the work her team put into the look. Lii has yet to address the debacle. In her response, Cardi was also sure to throw a jab at Cheah for calling her out, emphasizing the fact that he no longer works for Vogue.

The biggest stars of pop and rap music were in attendance sporting gorgeous custom designer looks. Big names like Rihanna and Taylor Swift weren’t present despite fan hopes that they would be. That was also the case with SZA who passed up on walking down this year’s carpet.

But that didn’t stop her from showing up to a MET Gala after party. Fans online hilariously chastised her for skipping the actual event but attention an after party where she hung out with Lizzo. Earlier this week, the MET Gala took place in New York. The biggest night in fashion fittingly had the biggest stars in nearly every facet of popular culture in attendance. Though some of the absences from this year’s event got attention, most notably Rihanna and Taylor Swift, there were still dozens and dozens of stars in attendance making waves. Musical stars like Lana Del Rey and Tyla stole the show with their fashion while artists like Ariana Grande, Lizzo, Dua Lipa, Sabrina Carpenter, and Lil Nas X made waves just for being in attendance.

One of the very last stars to walk down the iconic carpet and up the MET Gala’s notorious stairs was Cardi B. She had a stunningly elaborate black dress that took up nearly the entire carpet. But as it turns out the black dress she wore wasn’t always the plan. She took to social media with a behind-the-scenes video of a green alternate that was once planned for the big night. Some fans appeared to like the alternate even more and asked her why she switched it up. “It wasn’t photographing well. It translated different on all lighting and angels on camera” she explained. Her look also featured a bold headpiece, which is arguably the most controversial element of the look. For the event, the singer went with a sparkly black suit underneath a cape and a dramatic matching leather hat. He also held a bright red rose in his hand. He spoke about the look on the red carpet with ET. “It was a matter of using my imagination,” he said before describing it as “exotic.”

In response to the outfit, many fans on social media compared it to The Phantom of the Opera. “Usher also came with a statement that says that any revival of The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway should also bring back the full orchestra,” one fan on Twitter wrote. The organizers announced at the last minute that dangerous weather conditions would prevent the event from going forward. “Mannn… I’m just as disappointed as you are. She may very well have just been busy with one of her many business ventures, or as many fans are hoping, hard at work on a new album. But some online have brought up a different reason. Last night’s Met Gala festivities served up some truly classic, head-turning, head-scratching, eyebrow-raising ensembles that will surely be remembered among some of the events most creative. Doja Cat took an interesting angle on the flowers theme, while Usher’s dramatic look inspired comparisons to all kinds of pop culture superheroes. Another star whose outfit generated a ton of buzz on social media was Lizzo, whose form-fitting brown dress and accompanying headdress had many users making arboreal observations, including “I Am Groot.”

The star recently drew plenty of social media attention after posting about being “tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet,” leading some to speculate that she was announcing her departure from the music business. However, she later clarified her statement in another post, “When I say I quit, I mean quit giving any negative energy attention. What I’m not gonna quit is the joy of my life, which is making music.”

Her comments may have been spurred by having to deal with an ongoing lawsuit from some of her former dancers, who alleged that she created a hostile work environment. She has since requested a dismissal from the suit, as many of the complaints lodged within it pertain to Lizzo’s dance team captain, Shirlene Quigley, whom the plaintiffs say made inappropriate sexual comments.
