Four teenagers have been arrested in the rape of a Louisiana State University sorority member after she was dumped on the side of the road and fatally struck by a car following a night of drinking, police said. Questions gave been made about establishments and underage drinking.

Kaivon Deondre Washington, 18, Everett Lee, 28, and Casen Carver, 18, turned themselves in Monday, more than a week after 19-year-old Madison Brooks was fatally struck in Baton Rouge, the Advocate reported. A fourth suspect, a 17-year-old boy who had not been identified because he is a minor, turned himself in on Sunday, the outlet reported.

Carver admitted to police that Brooks “was very unstable on her feet, was not able to keep her balance, and was unable to speak clearly without slurring her words,” the document states. Carver told investigators he witnessed Brooks and the 17-year-old boy “hugging and walking together,” saying she asked for a ride home.

“He admitted that he agreed to give her a ride because he did not want to leave her while very intoxicated and the bar was closing up,” the arrest warrant says. Carver told authorities that he sat in the driver’s seat and Lee was in the front passenger seat, while Washington and the 17-year-old were in the back along with Brooks.

He said he asked Brooks for her address, “but she fell over and could not answer him.” the warrant says, “so he drove a short distance and pulled over.” Carver “stated he overheard his 17-year-old juvenile friend as he asked the victim five times if she wanted to have sex with him,” to which Brooks “gave verbal consent,” according to the document.

Washington and an unidentified 17-year-old were charged with third-degree rape, while Lee and Carver were charged with principle to third-degree rape. Ron Haley, an attorney for two of the suspects, told WAFB that this was “absolutely not a rape. Listen, this is a tragedy, definitely not a crime.”

He told the outlet that a video taken during the incident shows Brooks was coherent.

“Can you tell that she was intoxicated, yes. To the point under the law that you say you’re in a drunken stupor, to the point that you cannot lawfully give consent or answer questions, absolutely that was not the case,” Haley told WAFB.

The attorney claimed Brooks and Carver got into an argument in his car.

“Based on a disagreement, she got out of the vehicle. She indicated she was getting an Uber. I want the public to know, these young men or really the driver of the vehicle and the young men that were in there, did not put her off on the side of the road,” he said.

Do you think the bars should be held responsible for underage drinking?

[WATCH] European Union Announces Cricket Powder Will Replace Many Food Items

bug

Last year, the European Union announced that three species of insects would be allowed for human consumption: the migratory spider cricket, the yellow mealworm and the house cricket. Now it’s official, the European Union has approved cricket and insect powder for use in a variety of baked goods and other food staples in grocery stores.

Cricket flour could be used to make bread, pasta, biscuits, beer and even chocolate, among other things. The green light came after the European Food Safety Authority verified the new powder.

If insects are used, this must be included on the product’s list of ingredients, so consumers can decide for themselves whether to buy it or not, said the EU Commission website.

They could go into such products as nuts, snacks, pizza and pasta products, bread and rolls, crackers, sauces, meat preparations and soups, cereal bars, vegetable-based dishes, and chocolate confectionery.

After a lengthy approval process, the European Food Safety Agency has scientifically examined the consumption of the insects and classified them as harmless to health. Cricket powder can also be used in soups, milk and milk products, pasta, sauces, potatoes and chocolate.

On January 26, grocery stores can stock baked goods containing powdered larvae of the mealworm. Legally, food already includes locusts and larvae of the yellow mealworm.

The food packaging displays the scientific name for bugs such as Gryllus Bimaculatus, a species of cricket known as the two-spotted cricket.

Bill Gates has long fought for a sustainable meat-free diet to save the planet.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation awarded $100,000 grants to companies to develop nutritionally dense food using insect species.

Congress is considering similar legislation for the use of bugs to replace meat in American stores.
So basically—read your labels.

Virginia School Downplayed Warnings From Teacher Before 6 Year Old Shot Her

230115150415 richneck elementary school updates 011523

Richneck Elementary has been closed since the January 6 shooting of teacher Abby Zwerner by her six year old student. Recent updates report that the gun used by the first grader in Newport News Virginia, was stored on the top shelf of his mother’s bedroom closet, James Ellenson, the attorney representing the child’s family, shared earlier. While it is still unclear how the child obtained the weapon, the attorney said the gun was secured by a trigger lock.

The gun was legally purchased by the mother of the child, who could now face charges at the end of the investigation. The child carried the weapon to school grounds in his backpack, said the  Newport News Chief of Police Steve Drew.

This week, Newport News Police and ATF officials conducted their second round of searches at two homes belonging to the child’s family, Ellenson said. No charges have been filed.

Zwerner was teaching the first-grade class when the boy pulled out a 9mm handgun and fired at her. 25-year-old Abby Zwerner, was cleared for a release from the hospital last week,  after suffering a bullet in the chest after the bullet passed through one of her hands, according to Drew.

She is currently in stable condition and has been praised for escorting all of her students out of the classroom to safety even after she had been shot, as another school employee rushed in and physically restrained the boy.

On Thursday, the family of the child released a statement announcing their child has an acute disability and they were praying for Zwerner, who “selflessly served our son and the children in the school.”

Officials at the elementary school in Newport News, Virginia, apparently downplayed previous complaints issued by the teacher regarding the boy’s behavior. Ms. Zwerner reportedly raised concerns and requested help from school officials relating to the boy, which apparently included a threat to light a teacher on fire and watch her die. The issue was dismissed, according to messages from fellow teachers obtained by The Post.

Richneck Elementary School is currently facing criticism for its handling of the shooting that authorities have deemed “intentional.” Parent were outraged when Newport News Superintendent George Parker III said the school had received a tip that the boy had a gun that day, but then failed to uncover the weapon after searching his school bag.

Though the school remains closed, students and parents have been invited back to the school Wednesday for a two-hour non-instructional activity period, according to a letter from a school administrator. The investigation is ongoing.

Quotable Lyrics:

Put my heart on my sleeve, and a facade on my face
Got autopilot kicking in and now I’m hiding the traits
Shit, I could walk around in public crying help and with a gun to my brain
And if you asked me how I’m doing I’ll convince you I’m great, wait

[WATCH] Young Thug’s Attorney Says Rapper Had Nothing To Do With Drug Delivery In Court

Rapper Young Thug’s attorney says his client had nothing to do with a YSL co-defendant distributing drugs in court on Thursday.

Courtroom video shows co-defendant Kahlieff Adamscurrently serving a life sentence for murder — handing Williams a Percocet pill in open view of deputies in the Fulton County Courthouse. Jeffery Williams, aka Young Thug is on trial for RICO gang violations as leader of the Young Slime Life (YSL) street gang.
In an interview with WSB-TV, lawyer Keith Adams was adamant that Williams had no idea what he was being given.

“The reality is, Mr. Williams has nothing to do with what went on in the courtroom yesterday. One of the co-defendants, on his way to the restroom, attempted to pass something to Mr. Williams who immediately turned it over to the deputy.”

He continued: “We don’t know what [the item] is. Did not know what it was. Turned it over to the deputy right away. The deputies took action. The individual who had the contraband – not Mr. Williams – was taken into the back, where I’m told he ingested whatever he had. He had to be taken to the hospital, and as a result, court was terminated for the rest of the day.”

Actress Tracee Ellis Ross Opens Up About Being 50-Years Old, Single And Without Children

tracey

During a recent episode of We Can Do Hard Things podcast, actress Tracee Ellis Ross opened up about being 50, single, and going through perimenopause.

While reflecting on experiencing perimenopause, Ross shared,

“I have, for my entire life, been tethered to a very routine cycle. And I’m very connected to my body, so I would know I’m ovulating. I would have all the feelings of knowing that and all of that is out the window. And I turn 50. And here I am in this open space now, sort of allowing the bubbling up of whatever might be here.”

Perimenopause means “around menopause” and refers to the time when body makes the natural transition to menopause, marking the end of the reproductive years. Perimenopause is also called the menopausal transition. It often begins between the ages of 45 and 55.

The Black-ish star read an excerpt from her journal in which she questioned what it means to be fertile and to come to the end of her reproductive years.

“I can feel my body’s ability to make a child draining out of me. Sometimes I find it hilarious, as if there is a fire sale going on in my uterus, and someone’s in there screaming, ‘All things must go.’ As my body becomes a foreign place to me that doesn’t really feel safe or like home…I don’t know how to manage or control or fight the external binary narrative of the patriarchy that has hunted me and haunted me most of my adult life.”

“Is it my fertility that is leaving me? Is it my womanhood? Or is it really neither? But I have to fight to hold my truth, because I have been programmed so successfully by the water we all swim in, by the water we all are served. And I feel fertile with creativity, full of power, more and more a woman than I’ve ever been. And yet that power that I was told I must use was not used.”

“I say this to people all the time, I’m a wonderful mother. And I’m very mothering. And it’s been hard for me to claim that.”

She later expressed how she feels grateful that she is now able to look at being childless ‘with curiosity instead of heartbreak.’  She explains,“The heartbreak does come up, and I get to hold that gently and lovingly and then say, remind myself, ‘I woke up every morning of my life and I’ve tried to do my best, so I must be where I’m supposed to be.”

“I’ve been single for a very long time. I have had many wonderful ins and outs of things, but no one stuck to the pan. As a result, I get to curate my family, my chosen family around me. And I don’t think I realized the gift of that until I’ve started to get older.”

Is it necessary for a woman to feel obligated to have a child and be married?

Wendy Williams’ Ex Husband Hires New Legal Team To Fight Divorce Agreement

Screen Shot 2023 01 21 at 6.14.21 AM

Last year, it was revealed that former talk show host Wendy Williams’ ex husband Kevin Hunter was on the verge of losing everything because of a clause in his divorce agreement. The agreement allowed Wendy to stop paying alimony if she were no longer working on the Wendy Williams Show.
According to the court documents, Kevin depended on the court-ordered spousal payments from Wendy for homeowner association payments, car insurance, and to pay off his outstanding credit card bills.
He released a statement about his financial stress.

“I have fallen behind on most of my bills, I currently live in a community that requires payments to the homeowner association and I’m behind on that bill.”

“If the homeowners association fees are not paid foreclosure will soon follow,” he continued. “My car insurance hasn’t been paid as a result of not receiving monthly severance payments. I’m behind on credit card payments because I have no money since the severance payments were suspended.”

“My life has been greatly affected since the plaintiff stopped making payments under our settlement agreement.”

“The fact that I am unable to sustain my life and pay my bills in order is extremely emergent to me,” Kevin said. “I cannot pay my bills and sustain my day-to-day living.”

Now Kevin has hired a new legal team to go after the money he feels he deserves.

Kev shared the news in a post on Instagram stories.

Actor Darius McCrary Claims Ex Calls Him A Punk And Fears She Might Kill HIm

Screen Shot 2023 01 19 at 6.08.23 AM

Family Matters star Darius McCrary recently filed for a restraining order against an ex-girlfriend that he alleges might kill him.The actors claims his ex physically attacked him with a lead pipe and damaged his car’s glass. He claims she continues to call him a punk and he’s fearful that he may “end up like Phil Hartman” who was murdered by his wife Brynn Omdahl in May 1998. McCrary initially filed an order of protection back in August 2022 though it was not approved since the actor didn’t show up at the hearing, claiming he was, ‘displaced at the time, and had to flee from my ex’.

Radar Online reports;

Actor Darius McCrary has filed for a restraining order against his ex-girlfriend who allegedly threatened to steal his dog, RadarOnline.com has learned.

The Family Matters star first asked the court for a protective order against his ex in August 2022, after she allegedly broke his car window and attempted to attack him with a lead pipe.

McCrary, 46, was denied that protection after he was listed as a no-show on court records. However, McCrary alleged he missed the court date because he was “displaced” at the time due to having to “flee” his ex.

More than a year and a half later, McCrary is now back in court once again.

McCrary claimed his ex was in possession of valuable items that the actor owns.

“She will not return my personal items and is attempting to extort me,” McCrary said.

“I am afraid she will cause further damage. She continues to call me a punk (and other names we are choosing not to list) and is slandering my name in several professional circles of the entertainment industry,” McCrary’s added.

McCrary added that the severity of the situation had him fearful that he would “end up like Phil Hartman,” who was a famous comedian and SNL star who was fatally shot by his wife, Brynn Omdahl, in a murder-suicide in 1998 while their marriage was on the rocks.
