On Sunday, 2022 Billboard Music Awards Ceremony, Mary J. Blige received the coveted Billboard Icon Award, presented by Icon and the 2018 winner Janet Jackson. After being presented with the award, Mary confessed to the room that Jackson, 56 was one of her biggest inspirations growing up. Continuing her speech she stated “Icons aren’t born that way. It takes a lot of time hard work and a lot of surviving trial and error to achieving greatness. I’ve been on this journey for a long time one that didn’t look like you see me now.  After reflecting on how far she can come Mary, went on to say.  “When Andrea Harelll and Puff Daddy of uptown records introduced the world to the queen of Hip Hop Soul it was the beginning of a movement,” she states  “Every inner-city girl was recognizing their own, they could relate to everything I was saying and every female artist who came into the game wanted to do everything I was doing and still does until this day.  I was ghetto fabulous and I still am.”  she laughs and the crowd cheered as she stood before her fans (celebrities included) in a blonde top knot that she let down on the red carpet, heavy bangs, and big hoop earrings “ So ghetto, so fabulous, and people were threatened by that. ‘Now everybody wants to be ghetto fabulous. “

She continued on a more serious note, “The message in my music has always been that we are not alone in our struggle and I am not alone now.  For so long I was searching for real love but I finally found my real love and that real love is me.” She ended her speech by letting the world know that she has taken control of her career by managing herself and thanking everyone on her team past and present for helping her.

The award show marks Blige’s eleventh Billboard Music Award..  The icon award was established in 2011 and Blige follows a list of A-List recipients like Stevie Wonder, Prince, Mariah Carey, Pink, Jennifer Lopez, and Cher to name a few.  See the Queen of Hip Hop Souls entire speech below:

This Year’s Super Bowl Football, Signed By The Halftime Performers, Is Going Up For Auction

Following an iconic half-time performance by Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, and Anderson .Paak, a signed Wilson leather football used in Super Bowl LVI is going up for auction. The ball will contain the signatures of the lattermost five and will be sold by Heritage Auctions.

The sale will run from May 12-14. At the time of writing, the ball has a bid of $2,600. “This leather Wilson ball is signed by Dre, Em, Mary J, Anderson Paak, and Kendrick in bold black ink,” reads a description of the ball on Heritage Auctions’ website. “The autographs were acquired by our consignor at the Big Game and is one of the finest collectibles we’ve seen from the legendary show.”

Super Bowl LVI took place this past February in Los Angeles, for the first time in 30 years. Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg kicked off the halftime performance of “The Next Episode” from Dre’s 1999 album, 2001, before transitioning into a performance of Tupac’s “California Love.” 50 Cent then made a surprise appearance, performing “In Da Club,” recreating the song’s music video. Mary J. Blige then performed the Dre-produced “Family Affair” and the title track from her 2001 album, No More Drama. Joined by Paak on drums, Eminem then performed “Lose Yourself,” before Snoop and Dre closed out the show with a performance of “Still D.R.E.”

Method Man And Mary J Blige Win NAACP Image Awards For Their ‘Power Book II’ Roles

Mary J Blige and Method Man have made magic together for nearly 30 years, since their 1994 collaboration, “I’ll Be There For You/You’re All I Need To Get By” peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Last night, both were honored during the NAACP Image Awards with wins in the Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series for their roles in 50 Cent’s Starz crime drama, Power Book II: Ghost as drug matriarch Monét Tejada and shady lawyer Davis MacLean, respectively.

Mary celebrated her award with a post on Instagram thanking the NAACP Image Awards committee along with 50 Cent, Power creator Courtney A. Kemp, Starz CEO Jeffrey Hirsch, and the show’s cast, crew, and producers. Meanwhile, Method Man’s post about the win touted his new negotiating power as a two-time award winner, as he cracked in the caption: “Price just went up!!”

Both stars are flying high lately, but Mary J has been on another level thanks to her recent appearance in Dr. Dre’s Super Bowl halftime performance, which she followed up with an appearance during the NBA’s All-Star Weekend performance alongside DJ Khaled, Gunna, Lil Baby, Lil Wayne, and Migos. Meanwhile, 50 Cent even made a joking reference to Mary’s Power character after a viral moment with Michael Jordan.

Congrats to both stars for their wins as we look forward to seeing what they do next.

Michael Jordan Grabbed Mary J Blige’s Backside At NBA All-Star And 50 Cent’s Got Jokes

The NBA’s All-Star weekend is often a star-studded event, as both the league’s athletes and other entertainers get the chance to come together to enjoy the host city’s festivities as well as a low-stakes run of basketball games that allow for more socializing than the average in-season game. This year’s festivities were no different, as the league’s 75th anniversary brought out even bigger stars than usual, including retired players like Michael Jordan, who was honored as one of the 75 best players in league history.

But basketballs weren’t the only thing Jordan palmed over the weekend, which led to some pretty amusing memes from social media. When MJ encountered one of those celebrities, Mary J Blige — who’s fresh off her own big performance at the Super Bowl which included a surprise appearance from 50 Cent — their friendly hug apparently turned out a little more than that when cameras caught the hooper resting his hand on what looked to be the singer’s backside. Naturally, Twitter achieved liftoff from sheer reaction energy as fans noted the exchange and took great delight in pointing it out.

One of those fans was none other than 50 Cent, who never misses a chance to weigh in on a viral moment with a meme or two of his own, and in this case, he had the perfect gag, courtesy of his Starz drama series Power. Posting a pretty big spoiler for the recent season finale of Book II: Ghost (which stars Mary as Monique, the matriarch of a drug-dealing family that includes an NBA prospect basketball player, Zeke), 50 shared a fan’s screenshot with the comment “See just when we thought it was all f*cked up.” Of course, if you haven’t caught up on the show, you can click away, but if you’re not that pressed about the shocking ending — which, yeah, I hollered a bit when it aired — scroll on down to see 50’s reaction.
