The most anticipated preview of hip-hop to come has arrived. The XXL Freshman Class is an annual tradition that lets hip-hop fans get a look at the year’s fastest-rising stars.

This year’s list includes Dallas rapper BigXThaPlug, Tallahasee, Florida rapper Bossman Dlow, New York rapper Cash Cobain, Atlanta rapper Hunxho, Philadelphia rapper Lay Bankz, New York rapper Maiya The Don, Boston rapper Rich Amiri, New York rapper ScarLip, Texas rapper That Mexican OT, and the mysterious crooner 4Batz.

Prior lists have included Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Latto, Megan Thee Stallion, and more, so it’s usually a pretty good indicator of how artists’ careers are playing out — and at least one name on the cover is almost guaranteed to become a superstar. See below for a breakdown of each rapper’s breakout moment.

BigXThaPlug

BigXThaPlug hails from Dallas and his big hits so far are “Mmhmm” and “Texas.”

Bossman Dlow

His breakout single “Get In With Me” went viral on TikTok earlier this year, precipitating a No. 20 debut for his new tape, Mr Beat The Road.

Cash Cobain

Known for his “Slizzy” approach to the traditional New York sound, Cash’s biggest looks came from “Fisherrr” and his J. Cole collab, “Grippy.”

Hunxho

Hunxho’s rise has been steady since 2021, with “Let’s Get It”; he’s since released a string of solid mixtapes including 2023’s For Her, which peaked at No. 83 on the Billboard 200.

Lay Bankz

A string of viral TikTok hits culminated this year with “Tell Ur Girlfriend” and After 7 her major-label debut project.

Maiya The Don

In October 2022, Maiya dropped “Telfy” garnering about as much popularity as the titular bag. She’s since supported Flo Milli on tour after appearing on the Montgomery rapper’s “Conceited” remix, and even teamed up with the New York Liberty.

Rich Amiri

“One Call,” was just the latest song to jump from TikTok to the Hot 100 in February.

ScarLip

You’ve likely heard “Glizzy Gobbler,” Scar’s 2022 hit viral hit; if not, you may have seen her featured alongside some of the biggest names in hardcore hip-hop, including Swizz Beatz, Jadakiss, and Benny the Butcher, Snoop Dogg, and more.

That Mexican OT

Best known for his 2023 single “Johnny Dang,” That Mexican OT is probably the breakout star of this year’s Freshman class. His albums, Lonestar Luchador and Texas Technician, have both been critical and commercial successes, and he’s bringing back the Houston sound.

4Batz

“Act II: Date @ 8” became an out-of-nowhere hit early this year, garnering the timely co-sign of Drake just before he took a shot at Kendrick Lamar and had the whole rap world turn against him. It doesn’t look like the blowback has landed on 4Batz, though; he seems to be doing great in comparison.

Maiya The Don Recruits Flo Milli For Remix Of Her Braggadocious 2023 Hit “Expensive”

Back in early 2023, Flo Milli tapped Maiya The Don for a remix of one of her early hits, “Conceited.” Now, the Mobile, Alabama rapper is returning the favor, by helping out the native New Yorker in the same capacity. The newcomer, who got her start in 2021, dropped her debut project in October of 2023, Hot Commodity. On it, Maiya The Don struck gold with “Expensive,” but now Flo Milli is in the fold for this remix.

“Expensive” is a song about flaunting wealth and everything that comes with. Both rappers have made tracks similar to this, so the energy is right in their wheelhouses. With this new version, there are hardly any changes instrumentally. Structurally though, Maiya The Don’s first verse is gone, and replaced with Flo’s toxic bars. “He wanna spoon me, treat me utensils / Don’t do what I say and that boy gettin’ canceled (He gone) / Got a bag? That mean you can spoil me.”

A second pre-chorus has also been thrown in, following Milli’s verse. “AP watch, I put it in their face / Yeah, tell a ho to get a taste.” It is also longer than Maiya’s pre-chorus, which still stays in the mix. All in all the chemistry is solid, and we can see more collabs out them.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single and remix, “Expensive” by Maiya The Don and Flo Milli? Do you think this was a necessary adjustment to add the Alabama rapper, why or why not? Is this one of her stronger offerings as of late? Do you still have Hot Commodity in your rotation? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Maiya The Don and Flo Milli. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on in the music world.

Flo Milli’s Muse Is A 7-Eleven Slurpee On ‘Anything Flows’ Featuring Maiya The Don, 2Rare, And Kari Faux

Flo Milli has done a lot of collaborating this year. The 23-year-old rapper worked with Saucy Santana on “Whole Family” or Lola Brooke and Maiya The Don on the “Conceited” remix. Now she’s back with a bigger, more iconic group effort.

For 7-Eleven, Flo Milli teamed up with Maiya The Don again, as well as 2Rare and Kari Faux for the new track “Anything Flows” produced by Nova Wav. The music video directed by Warren Fu is full of color and Slurpees. Plus, everyone’s outfits are impeccable and memorable, and the choreography is spot-on. The infectious track has Milli’s clever and fun flair, only made better and more catchy with the other rappers who she has obvious chemistry with.

Earlier this year, Milli worked with American Express on a partnership. “American Express and Depop are bringing my personal style to life this festival season and I’m so excited to be part of the first collection.” Flo Milli shared in a statement. “Through both my music and fashion, I always aim to express myself with authenticity and creativity. I can’t wait for Depop users to shop my festival-ready looks, featuring bold, glam pieces with Y2K and grunge influence.”

Flo Milli Taps Lola Brooke And Maiya The Don For “Conceited” Remix: Stream

Hot Girl Summer is still several months away, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start preparing with some female-first anthems in the winter. One of the artists who’s never been afraid to let her confidence shine on the track is Flo Milli – fans will know this from her viral “Conceited” track that landed last summer.

The catchy song is just one of 17 on the Alabama artist’s debut album, You Still Here, Ho?. It’s remained in rotation far past its original debut, and to ensure her work markedly sticks in the minds of listeners, the 23-year-old is back with a remix featuring Lola Brooke and Maiya The Don.

On Friday (January 27), the official remix of “Conceited” chiefly landed on DSPs, along with a cool new music video on YouTube. In a celebratory Instagram post, Milli warned listeners, “Pump Ya Breaks Bitch, ‘Cuz This Our Weekend!!!”

For Lola’s part, she came through with impressive bars on the second verse, following the original rap diva’s braggadocious intro.

“Pump your brakes, bitch, ’cause this how we came / How you feelin’ the day Lo? I’m far from conceited,” she begins. “Still a hood bitch, catchin’ dues out of Niemans / No discount for the LV snizzers.”

Afterward, we hear from Maiya, who also has some things to get off her chest. “Cocky ass bitch, I need ya neck to put my foot on / If I ain’t posted wouldn’t know what the put on / I pop shit just to show you who the biggest / I made a career out of shittin’ on bitches.”

Stream Flo Milli’s “Conceited” remix featuring Lola Brooke and Maiya The Don on Spotify or Apple Music below. Afterward, revisit the Alabama native’s debut album here.

Quotable Lyrics:

I huff then I puff then I blow shit down (Ooh)
Stand-up bitch, ho, go sit down (Damn)
Put your ear on my coochie, hear this ocean sound (Uh)
(I fuck once) Boy, you old d*ck now

Flo Milli Delivered On An Impeccable Remix Of ‘Conceited’ That Features Lola Brooke And Maiya The Don

Flo Milli returns with an impeccable remix of her song “Conceited” which now has new features from Lola Brooke and Maiya The Don.

“Milli got millis / ‘Cause Milli got hits,” she opens the song before breaking the beat to introduce the other girls.

“Remember that when you see this motherf*cking face,” Milli adds during the talking break. “Get used to both of these faces, b*tch / ‘Cause we ain’t going no motherf*cking where b*tch.”

The three women hype each other up in the studio, right as the song’s remix continues. Brooke’s verse brings the heavy-hitting vibes, and the red lighting in the video reflects that. Maiya The Don equally carries the track, giving her own spin on Milli’s lyrics.

Still, the updated remix version keeps the original hit’s chorus, as the girls repeat “Feeling myself / I’m conceited” — giving some seriously powerful energy in the process.

About two weeks ago, Brooke performed at Flo Milli’s Los Angeles concert, according to a TikTok video of her singing her own “Don’t Play With It.” Considering the duo now have also jumped on a track together, it seems their friendship is close in all aspects.
