Pharrell Defends Kanye West’s Title As The “Louis Vuitton Don”

Earlier this year, Pharrell Williams was named Men’s Creative Director of Louis Vuitton. Yesterday, he debuted the Men’s Spring-Summer 2024 Collection in Paris, and countless celebrity guests attended to show their support. Pharrell appears in a clip alongside one guest, Swizz Beatz, where he reveals that there’s one title he’ll never be taking over.

When Swizz calls Pharrell the new “Louis Vuitton Don,” he’s immediately stopped in his tracks. “Nah nah nah,” Pharrell corrects him, “I’m the Pupil King, I’m a student.” He continues, “‘Louis Vuitton Don’ is the one great Kanye West, period.” When Swizz Beatz asks him how he’s feeling amid the debut, he says he’s “electrified with gratitude.” He goes on, “My appointment in this position is a tribute to our brother Virgil. I’m grateful, man. God is the greatest.” Pharrell replaces the late Virgil Abloh, who previously held the title. He served as Men’s Creative Director at Louis Vuitton beginning in 2018, up until he tragically passed away of heart cancer in 2021.

Pharrell Calls Himself The “Pupil King”

Pusha T put on quite the show, walking the runway and debuting a new Clipse song that appears to diss Jim Jones. The new track is tentatively named “Chains ’n Whips.” Jay-Z took the stage to perform some of his greatest hits, including “N***as In Paris,” “PSA,” and more. He also joined Pharrell on his big night, with the two performing “I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me)” and “Frontin’.”

Other celebrity guests at the event included Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, Zendaya, Offset, Kim Kardashian, and many more. Beyonce also, of course, accompanied her husband at the event. Pharrell told Women’s Wear Daily prior to the runway show, “Every day, I gotta pinch myself.” He continued, “because it’s an appointment, and I was chosen.” Pharrell says, “Pietro saw something, and I’m touched by that and I honour that every day.”

Jay-Z Tells Fans To Stop Clapping After They Can’t Stay On Beat

Pharrell’s debut collection as head of Louis Vuitton Menswear was unveiled at a massive event in Paris last night. Celebrities piled on top of each other at the event which meant there was plenty of news and plenty of fits. Part of the show included a performance from Jay-Z, Tyler, The Creator, and even Pharrell himself. It was during Jay-Z’s performance that a funny interaction with the crowd happened as he tried to keep the hype up.

Before jumping into a fan favorite track from his Magna Carta Holy Grail album Jay-Z tried to get fans to clap along to the beat, but it didn’t go well. According to XXL, Jay-Z tried to correct the audiences clapping, telling them to stay “on-beat though.” After that didn’t seem to help much he decided just to keep the momentum up in other ways. “Forget the clap,” he said before transitioning into the song. While the video of the interaction is funny, Jay-Z seemed to take it well. The rest of the performances features many of his classic hits and some collaborations with Pharrell as well.

Jay-Z’s Crowd Can’t Clap On Beat

The clapping debacle wasn’t even the only attention-grabbing thing that happened during Jay-Z’s performance. Video emerged after the show of Kim Kardashian dancing to the song “N*ggas In Paris,” which of course features her ex-husband Kanye West as well. Another musical story emerging from the event came from Clipse. The rap duo of Pusha T and No Malice have been pretty quiet since the 2000’s aside from the closing track of Push’s most recent album last year. The duo were present on the Louis Vuitton runaway and even debuted a new song they made together while there.

The show featured a parade of celebrities on top of those already mentioned. Beyonce, Megan Thee Stallion, Rihanna, A$AP Rocky and more were all also in attendance. The show celebrated Pharrell’s first collection following his takeover of the position once held by Virgil Abloh before his death. What do you think about Jay-Z’s interaction with the crowd during his performance? Let us know in the comment section below.

Pharrell Vibes Out To Unreleased Clipse Song With Pusha T & Malice

It looks like Pusha T will be coming through with some heat this summer in the form of a new single from the Clipse. Although they previously linke dup on Kanye’s “Use This Gospel,” Pusha T and Malice made their formal return on 2022’s “Punch Bowl” from I Know Nigo before joining forces, once again, on It’s Almost Dry closer, “I Pray For You.” From there, the two continued to perform together and also dropped their previously unreleased debut album, Exclusive Audio Footage on streaming services.

However, at the Louis Vuitton fashion show, we received a snippet of what appears to be a new single from the brotherly duo. As Pusha T and Malice walked the runway, Pharrell debuted a new single from the Clipse that already made waves online. As much as fans are ecstatic to receive new music from the Virginia duo, many quickly picked up on what seems to be a response to Jim Jones, who suggested that Push was undeserving of his #29 spot on Billboard’s top 50 greatest rappers list.

Pharrell Vibes With The Clipse

Despite the apparent shots toward Jim Jones, Pharrell seems to be enthusiastic about the upcoming effort from the Clipse. A new clip emerged this morning of Skateboard P, Pusha T, and Malice posted up in what appears to be a backstage area where they’re bopping their heads to the songs. Pharrell, specifically, begins singing along to the hook with incredible enthusiasm. No word on when the single will arrive but we anticipate that it’ll surface sometime this summer.

The star-studded Louis Vuitton show also had Malice and Pusha T walking the runway, which is where they debuted the upcoming single. However, Pharrell also brought out even more guests at the afterparty, including Jay-Z, who was in attendance with Beyonce. The rapper joined P on stage to perform a few of their collaborations as well as records like “PSA” and his verse on Panjabi MC’s “Beware (Remix).” Check out P and the Clipse backstage above. How’s the new single sounding? Let us know in the comment section below.

Pharrell’s First Louis Vuitton Show As The Men’s Director Featured A Fun Duet Performance With Jay-Z

Pharrell Williams recently kicked off his first fashion show in Paris as Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Creative Director — replacing the late Virgil Abloh. It wasn’t without surprises either, as he incorporated music into a large part of the show.

Jay-Z made a special appearance to play “Frontin” by The Neptunes and “On To The Next One.” Pharrell also brought the Voices Of Fire gospel choir to perform their recent collab, “Joy (Unspeakable).”

There was also a live debut of a new Clipse (Pusha T and Malice’s duo) song that is reportedly called “Chains ‘N Whips,” according to a New York Times write-up.

“Beat the system with chains and whips,” Pusha reportedly raps in the chorus, per the publication. The song also played over the speakers on the runway.

“That was made in this room,” Pharrell told NYT in reaction to the song. “We just start walking around and looking out this window and you just see all of this. I mean, we beating this system, bro.”

There’s also another lyric that was shared by Stereogum, where he seems to dig at a long-time rapper. “You’d think there’d be honor amongst veterans / I am watching your fame escape relevance / We’re all in the room, but here’s the elephant / You’re chasing a feature out of your element,” the Clipse track goes. Many have suspected it is about Dipset’s Jim Jones.

Offset Links Up With Jay-Z And Pharrell At Louis Vuitton Fashion Show

Hip-hop showed out for Pharrell at his first fashion show as Virgil Abloh’s successor at Louis Vuitton. Earlier this year, Louis Vuitton named Skateboard P their new creative director following the death of Abloh. The show’s guests included pop culture’s most famed faces, from Rihanna and A$AP Rocky to Jay-Z and Beyonce, as well as Kim Kardashian and many others. Offset also came out, as expected. The Migos rapper showed out in Louis Vuitton from head-to-toe, with a glass of champagne in one hand and a joint in the other in celebration of Pharrell’s massive debut.

‘Set also linked up with a number of fellow artists at the event. One clip that’s circulating Twitter includes the Atlanta native and Miguel posing for a picture. However, ‘Set also made sure to link up with the star of the show – Pharrell. A video surfaced of the “CODE” MC and the legendary producer, who worked together in the past on hit records like “Stir Fry,” were all smiles as ‘Set praised Pharrell for his latest accomplishments as the creative director of Louis Vuitton.

Another clip that made the rounds sees Offset and Jay-Z connecting briefly, exchanging a firm handshake in a second-long clip. Hov showed out front row for the festivities alongside his wife Beyonce, who is in the midst of her Renaissance World Tour across Europe and will perform in Hamberg, Germany tonight (June 21). Despite alleged tension between Offset and Jay-Z in the past, it’s nice to see them link up with smiles on their face.

Jay-Z also hit the stage on Tuesday night with Pharrell to celebrate the incredible milestone. Hov came through to perform a few collabs with Skateboard P, including “Frontin’.” He also dove into a few other records, such as “N***as In Paris” and “PSA.” Clearly, it was a big night for Pharrell and he certainly pulled out all of the stops to make it happen. Jay-Z Performs Classics At Pharrell’s Louis Vuitton Fashion Show

Pharrell had some tricks up his sleeve for his first-ever runway show as the new creative director of Louis Vuitton. Zendaya, Rihanna, & A$AP Rocky, and Kim Kardashian all came through to witness Pharrell, along with Jay-Z and Beyonce. However, Jay didn’t limit his appearance to a front-row seat. The billionaire mogul also hit the stage with Pharrell at the afterparty to dive into a few of his biggest records, including one of his collaborations with Kanye West that would only be appropriate to perform in France’s capital.

Jay hit the stage, dripped out in a custom Louis Vuitton jacket, as he performed records like “N***as In Paris,” “PSA,” and his verse on MC Panjabi’s “Beware (Remix).” Of course, he also joined Pharrell on stage to deliver a performance of their single “ I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me)” and “Frontin’.” Clearly, Pharrell had to do it big at the Louis Vuitton show which debuted the LV’s Men’s Spring-Summer 2024 Collection. The stage itself was located in front of the Louis Vuitton headquarters.

Jay-Z & More Pop Out For Pharrell’s Louis Vuitton Fashion Show

Pharrell pulled from his wheelhouse of collaborators for his debut as Louis Vuitton’s Creative Director. Besides Jay-Z touching the stage, Skateboard P also pulled a few of his close collaborators for the presentation. Pusha T and Malice walked the runway, debuting a new Clipse single that seemingly addresses the beef with Jim Jones. The Dipset rapper hasn’t responded so far. However, it seems like the Louis Vuitton runway show could be the beginning of a surgical summer.

The legendary producer spoke to WWD ahead of the Louis Vuitton show where he detailed his journey to get to the position at LV. “Every day, I gotta pinch myself because it’s an appointment, and I was chosen,” he told WWD. “Pietro saw something, and I’m touched by that and I honor that every day.” Check out the footage from Pharrell’s Louis Vuitton after party above and sound off with your thoughts in the comment section below.

Pusha T Disses Jim Jones In New Clipse Song Debuted At Pharrell’s 1st Louis Vuitton Men’s Show

Pharrell Williams launched his first show as the Louis Vuitton Men’s Creative Director in Paris on Tuesday night. In doing so, he debuted a new song from Clipse in which Pusha T appears to diss Jim Jones.

“Beware of my name, that there’s delegate/ You know I know where you’re delicate/ Crush you to pieces, I’ll hum a breath of it/ I will close your heaven for the hell of it/ You think it’d be valor amongst veterans/ I’m watching your fame escape relevance/ We all in a room but here’s the elephant/ You chasing a feature out of your element,” Pusha raps. “And those lab diamonds under inspection/ The question marks block your blessings/ It’s no tombstones in the desert/ I know by now you get the message.”

The new song appears to be tentatively titled, “Chains ’n Whips,” as revealed in a New York Times profile with Pharrell from over the weekend. The animosity between Pusha T and Jim Jones began in April, when the Dipset rapper disagreed with Billboard for placing Pusha T at No. 29 on the outlet’s “Top 50 Greatest Rapper of All Time” list. At the time, Jones admitted that Pusha is “nice as shit” at rapping but questioned his impact.

“Nobody has dressed like him. Nobody wants to be like Pusha T. I don’t remember nothing. And let’s not be evil, but we don’t talk about rap where the n***a that’s popping the bitches wanna fuck and the n****s wanna be like,” he said. “I don’t know too many n****s in this game that was leaning towards being like Pusha T. Pusha T don’t hold no weight out here. He not pushing no shit out here.”

Clipse’s Song Plays During The Louis Vuitton Show

Jim Jones responded to “Chains ’n Whips” on his Instagram page a few hours later. “Let me know if they serious cause my name is my name #Capo,” he wrote, before adding on his Instagram Story: “Let me know when they really ready.”

Pharrell’s Louis Vuitton Fashion Show Reportedly Featured A New Clipse Song

Pharrell, who just turned 50 this year despite still looking like he did during The Neptunes’ heyday, just held his first show as the head menswear designer of Louis Vuitton — a role he’s held since early this year. After recruiting Rihanna to headline the first campaign under his guidance, clips and photos of Pharrell’s first show have begun to emerge on social media, revealing both his design sensibility and his musical as the show apparently featured a previously unheard song from his longtime collaborators, Clipse. Malice can be heard rapping over this clip, while the brothers Thornton can be seen walking the runway in some of the photos.

Pharrell took over as head menswear designer at Louis Vuitton after the role was left vacant by the death of his friend and frequent collaborator Virgil Abloh, who held the role from 2018 until he passed in 2021. In an interview with WWD, Pharrell addressed his lack of high-end fashion experience, comparing himself to some of the greats of the industry. “I didn’t go to Central Saint Martins, but I also didn’t go to Juilliard either in music and I mean, we see how that turned out,” he said. “It’s cool. That’s a very fair observation. But neither did Vivienne Westwood, right? Tadao Ando was self-taught. I mean, he’s the GOAT, right? I only aspire to express myself.”
