Dua Lipa, J. Cole, And Metallica Headline Lollapalooza’s Stuffed Chicago 2022 Lineup

Chicago’s Lollapalooza fest has long been known as one of the biggest, most musically diverse festivals around, and this year, apparently, will be no exception. The 2022 lineup has been announced, with headliners including hard rock mainstays Metallica, disco-pop revivalist Dua Lipa, gymnastic rap enthusiast J. Cole, and pop-punk pioneers Green Day. The big print on the flyer for the four-day festival runs a bit rap-heavy, though, as Doja Cat, Machine Gun Kelly, and Lil Baby fill out the top third (yeah, I know, MGK’s technically an emo rocker now), along with EDM icon Kygo.

Further down the list is a truly breathtaking range of both up-and-coming and veteran artists including Glass Animals, Big Sean, Jazmine Sullivan, Don Toliver, Charli XCX, Denzel Curry, Blxst, Willow, Cordae, Caroline Polachek, PinkPanthress, Audrey Nuna, Wet Leg, Larry June, Coi Leray, King Princess, Dashboard Confessional, Baby Tate, Petey, Blackstarkids, and more. There’s even a special guest: Jane’s Addiction, who last performed together two years ago in 2020.

Lollapalooza is set for the weekend of July 28-31 in Chicago’s Grant Park. Tickets go on sale today at 12 pm CT, with General Admission starting at $350 and a four-day Platinum pass going for up to $4200. You can find more information at lollapalooza.com.

Post Malone, Doja Cat, And Pearl Jam Are Headlining Lollapalooza Stockholm 2022

The Lollapalooza global festivals takeover is in full effect. After a successful flagship function in Chicago this past July, Lollapalooza began announcing its 2022 international slate with bills led by Foo Fighters, Miley Cyrus, The Strokes, and Doja Cat in Brazil and Argentina next March. Then in July, Pearl Jam, Imagine Dragons, David Guetta, and ASAP Rocky will be atop the lineup at Lollapalooza Paris. But it doesn’t stop there.

The second annual Lollapalooza Stockholm in Sweden was announced today and it’s set to go down from Friday, July 1st through Sunday, July 3rd, 2022 at Gårdet, a sprawling park in the heart of the city. Ahead of their Paris appearance, Pearl Jam will also be headlining the Stockholm affair, along with Post Malone, The Killers, Imagine Dragons, Doja Cat and Swedish pop sensation Veronica Maggio. There’s definitely an effort to incorporate Swedish talent on the bill with confirmed appearances from producer/DJ Alesso, reggae-hoppers Timbuktu & Damn!, pop star Tove Lo, singer Benjamin Ingrosso, electro-pop duo Jubël, and more. Other lineup highlights include Jack Harlow, Italian rockers Måneskin, Polo G, Modest Mouse, and Haim.

Tickets go on sale November 25 and you can get them, along with full lineup info and more, at here.

Foo Fighters, Doja Cat, And The Strokes Lead Lollapalooza’s Brazil And Argentina 2022 Festival Lineups

They’ll also be playing at Lollapalooza Argentina, taking place in Buenos Aires from March 18 to 20.

Joining the headliners, the nearly identical lineups will also feature Machine Gun Kelly, Martin Garrix, Jack Harlow, Phoebe Bridgers, Idles, Kaytranada, Alan Walker, Kehlani, Marina, and of course, Jane’s Addiction (fronted by festival co-founder Perry Farrell). It’s a welcome sight to see native artists playing at each country’s rendition. Brazil’s fest will include acts like rapper Rashid, drum and bass legend DJ Marky, and queer pop sensation Pablo Vittar. While the Argentina edition features rhumba pop singer Natalie Perez, singer-songwriter Lito Nebbia, and rock band Él Mató a un Policía Motorizado.

There’s ‘No Evidence’ That Lollapalooza Was A ‘Super-Spreader’ Event, According To Health Officials

Many people (like Demi Lovato) expressed disbelief at the huge crowds that Lollapalooza drew this year in light of the still-ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The predominant concern is that an event of such a scale would lead to a substantial uptick in COVID-19 cases, but it seems that so far, that hasn’t been the case.

Chicago Department Of Public Health commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady took to Twitter this morning to share some COVID statistics from the two weeks since the festal. In a thread, Arwady reported that there’s “NO evidence” that Lollapalooza was a “super-spreader” event:

“We are now 14 days past the first day of Lolla and we are continuing to investigate cases of COVID. There have been no unexpected findings at this point and NO evidence at this point of ‘super-spreader’ event or substantial impact to Chicago’s COVID-19 epidemiology.

Of the estimated 385k attendees at Lolla, 90%+ were vax’d.

0.0004% (4 in 10,000) of vaccinated attendees have reported testing positive.

0.0016% (16 in 10,000) of unvaccinated attendees have reported testing positive.

As of 8/11, no hospitalizations or deaths have been reported.

As of now, there is a total of 203 cases identified with attendance at Lolla and symptom onset (or if asymptomatic, test date) on or after attendance. 58 were Chicago residents, 138 were non-Chicago Illinois residents and 7 out of state residents.

COVID risk can not be eliminated. We want to stay open as a city, but being open also means being careful — getting vaccinated, getting tested if you have any COVID symptoms, and, for now, wearing a mask in indoor public places. Let’s #ProtectChicago.”

In other Lolla news, fans were pretty blown away by a sign language interpreter’s work during Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP” performance at the festival.

People Are Losing It Over A Sign Language Interpreter’s On-Point ‘WAP’ Rendition At Lollapalooza

Since its release nearly a year ago, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion‘s internet-breaking song “WAP” has been met with both praise and outrage over its raunchy lyrical content. Elected officials have complained about the song on the floor of Congress and the rappers’ performance of the track at the 2021 Grammys resulted in over 1,000 FCC complaints. But compared to a sign language interpreter’s rendition of “WAP” alongside Megan at Lollapalooza last weekend, their Grammys set could be considered relatively tame.

Megan took the Lollapalooza stage Saturday to a massive crowd of festivalgoers where she enticed the audience with a number of her hits. But as she delivered the memorable lyrics to her “WAP” collaboration, someone else on stage stole the show. A sign language interpreter accompanied Megan at side stage to perform the song in American Sign Language, and one fan captured a clip of them performing Cardi’s verse. As expected, “WAP” translated into ASL is as explicit (or more so) as the original track.

This is far from the first time a sign language interpreter has gone viral for their impressive performances at concerts. Most recently, a sign language interpreter who accompanied Twista on stage at a 2019 show went viral for their rapid-fire signing of the rapper’s lyrics.

DaBaby Has Been Dropped From Lollapalooza’s 2021 Festival Lineup

The homophobic rant DaBaby delivered during last weekend’s Rolling Loud festival in Miami was met with plenty of backlash. His rant — which also targeted people with HIV/AIDS — earned him criticism from Madonna, Dua Lipa, Elton John, Questlove, and more, while BoohooMan terminated their partnership with him. Now, his actions have impacted one of his bigger gigs.

On Sunday, Lollapalooza announced that DaBaby would no longer perform at the show, just a half-hour before the final day of the festival began. “Lollapalooza was founded on diversity, inclusivity, respect, and love,” read a statement put out by the festival. “With that in mind, DaBaby will no longer be performing at Grant Park tonight.” The festival also announced that Young Thug will take the show’s 9 p.m. slot, while G Herbo will step into the 4 p.m. slot to accommodate the gap in their scheduling.

While the move from Lollapalooza is a credible one, it should be noted that at least one other scheduled performer has made public statements that don’t exactly comply with “diversity, inclusivity, respect, and love.” Last year, Young Thug — who’s still on the line-up — responded to controversial comments Boosie Badazz made about Dwayne Wade and Gabrielle Union’s trans daughter. But he seemed to be more on Boosie’s side. “All I wanna say to dwade son is ‘GOD DONT MAKE MISTAKES’ but hey live your true self,” he wrote in a tweet. The rapper later deleted the message.
