Dave Grohl Used To Listen To Juvenile’s ‘Back That Azz Up’ Backstage Before Every Foo Fighters Concert

Foo Fighters stopped by The Late Late Show to perform their Medicine At Midnight highlight “Waiting On A War” last night. While they were there, they also took a few minutes to chat with James Corden, and over the course of their conversation, one of Dave Grohl’s excellent old pre-show traditions was revealed.

Playing off the fact that Foo Fighters have referred to Medicine At Midnight as a “party album,” Corden asked some of the band members what music they’d play at a party. Taylor Hawkins jokingly answered, “Just yacht rock, always, all the time.” Rami Jaffee then chimed in with the Bee Gees’ Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, an album that Grohl recently highlighted as a must-listen for children. Chris Shiflett added, “I remember when I first joined the band, we had a big boombox backstage, and before every show, Dave would put on Juvenile, “Back That Azz Up.” As Grohl excitedly recited some of the lyrics and other band members laughed, Shiflett added, “That was our pre-show warm-up.”

Shiflett joined the band in 1999, so while the band was touring in support of that year’s album There Is Nothing Left To Lose, Grohl was probably back stage getting pumped up to the then-brand-new Juvenile song, which is also known as “Back That Thang Up” and features Mannie Fresh and Lil Wayne. “Back That Azz Up,” by the way, was actually Wayne’s first-ever single.

Watch the interview above and check out the band’s performance of “Waiting On A War” below.

Lil Wayne Seemingly Did The Absolute Minimum To Fulfill A Branded Tweet Obligation

An awesome side effect of being successful and popular is that once you reach a certain level of fame, you can leverage your social media following for serious income opportunities. For example, it was reported in 2019 that Kim Kardashian earned $1 million per branded Instagram post, while the same year, Kylie Jenner was apparently raking in $1.2 million per post. That seems like an easy way to make a ton of money, and today, it appears Lil Wayne shared a sponsored post of his own while putting in as lil effort as possible.

This morning, at 8 a.m. PT on the dot, Wayne tweeted, “Sourdough @BurgerKing #AD.”

Here’s the tweet:

And here’s a screenshot of the tweet in case this work of art gets taken down:

@LilTunechi/Twitter

Back in 2018, Burger King introduced the Sourdough King sandwich, which was only available for a limited time. Today, it was reported that the sandwich is making a return in a variety of iterations, but just until April 19. Wayne conveyed none of this information, which is presumably what his ad was meant to be about. Based on his tweet and without that context, one could infer that the rapper was trying to start a conversation about bread with the burger chain and Anthony Davis, or perhaps he was demanding that BK “ad” sourdough bread to their menu.

Criticism aside, while Wayne’s ability to get his point across could be questioned here, we probably wouldn’t be talking about Burger King right now if Wayne had tweeted a more conventional ad. It’s the squeaky wheel that gets the grease, so congrats to Wayne for being a genius marketer.

Taylor Swift And Lil Wayne Are Now Tied For A ‘Billboard’ Hot 100 Chart Record

It’s no secret that Taylor Swift is a prolific musician. On top of releasing two surprise albums in 2020, the singer began re-recording her entire discography. Because she continues to turn out hits, Swift has broken a handful of charting records. Some of her historic feats are less positive, however, like when her song “Willow” broke Tekashi 69’s record for the biggest fall from No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. But now, it looks as though the singer is competing with Lil Wayne to secure yet another chart record.

Swift released her newly-recorded version of her 2009 track “Love Story” last week, which debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song marked her 51st song to land a spot in the top 20, which officially ties with Lil Wayne for the second-most top 20 songs in the chart’s history.

Though the two may be competing for the second-most top 20 entries, Taylor Swift still leads the pack when it comes to Hot 100 chart entries among female artists. She continues to hold the most Hot 100 songs compared to any other female musician in history.

Lil Wayne and Swift’s competing record isn’t the only exciting news from this week’s Billboard charts; Olivia Rodrigo also made an impressive impact with her hit debut single “Drivers License.” The song was once again at No. 1 this week, making it the first time a debut single has ever spent six weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart.
