Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug, Gunna & Wheezy Sued Over “Strawberry Peels”: Report

A publishing company is coming for Lil Uzi Vert in court over a sample used in “Strawberry Peels” ft. Young Thug and Gunna.

According to TMZ, Sun City Publishing filed a lawsuit against Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug, Gunna, and the song’s producer, Wheezy, on claims that they stole the sample from the group Blackout’s 1995 single, “Dim Da Lights.” Atlantic Records and Generation Now are also named in the lawsuit.

Sun City claims no one reached out to them to authorize the use of “Dim Da Lights” on “Strawberry Peels.” However, the “Just Wanna Rock” rapper’s song reached 39M Spotify streams and 4M YouTube streams. Sun City said the song likely generated upwards of $1M in revenue, which they’re now seeking in damages.

So far, none of the involved parties have publicly commented on the lawsuit. “Strawberry Peels” appeared on the 2020 deluxe edition of Eternal Atake, also known as Lil Uzi Vert Vs. The World 2.

Meanwhile, Lil Uzi Vert’s continued to tease the release of his forthcoming Pink Tape. After blessing fans with Red & White last summer, the Philly rapper recently offered an update on the follow-up to Eternal Atake. An alleged leak convo with Lil Uzi hit timelines this week, revealing the project would drop in February. There’s no confirmation that it’s true but we hope that it is.

We’ll keep you posted on any more updates on Pink Tape. Check out the two songs below and let us know your thoughts.

City Girls’ JT Would Stay With Lil Uzi Vert If He Ever Went To Jail

City Girls’ JT and Lil Uzi Vert have been dating for quite a while, and the Miami rapper recently confirmed she’s willing to wait for her beau if things went south. During a recent conversation with Raymonte, he asked JT if she would still be with Uzi if they went to jail for ten years.

“Um…10 years. Yeah. 10 years not really that long. I did 15 [months].” JT said, laughing and jokingly referencing her own time in prison. “You want some drama.”

The couple has been together since 2019.

“I love you uzi,” JT wrote for Uzi’s birthday back in July. “I’m crying making this post because you are literally a dream come true! I feel like with everything I been through in life you are one of my greatest rewards! I wake up every day to either your frown or smile …either works for me, as long as you’re right there.

Uzi has returned the sentiment toward JT. They opened up in a 2021 interview with W Magazine. “She keeps me calm and balances me. Album-wise, she keeps me not saying too much.”

Most recently, JT and Uzi celebrated the holidays together in an extravagant way. The rapper bought JT an expensive gold watch, which she captioned “Thank you santa vert.”

It’s clear the bond between the two musicians is super strong — and will last, even if Uzi doesn’t make bond.

JT Claims She Would Ride For Lil Uzi Vert If He Gets 10 Years Behind Bars

While in a recent interview, JT was asked if she would hold her boyfriend, fellow rapper Lil Uzi Vert, down if he were behind bars for 10 years. And after thinking for a few seconds, the City Girls star later confirmed that she would, adding that it’s “not really that long.”

The “Where The Bag At” rapper sat down virtually with Raymonte, who asked her the hypothetical question.

“Um…10 years. Yeah. 10 years not really that long. I did 15 [months].” she admitted while laughing. JT then joked with Raymonte, “You want some drama.”

JT and Lil Uzi started dating in 2019 and have earned a special place in each other’s lives since.

While interviewing with Yung Miami for PopSugar, the Florida-born musician shared about her relationship last September, “I feel like I found my home with him, my safe space. Once you find your safe space, you know.”

She also admitted that their relationship “made me a much better person.”

In a 2021 interview with W Magazine, Lil Uzi Vert also opened up about his romance with JT, simply saying at the time, “She keeps me calm and balances me. Album-wise, she keeps me not saying too much.”

With the City Girl’s last project being 2019’s City On Lock, the duo are currently gearing up to release their third album. On what their fans can look forward to, JT also told PopSugar, “It’s confident music, getting-ready music, girl-power music, pop-your-sh*t, talk-your-sh*t music, fun music, alter-ego music. It’s for everybody. City Girl sh*t, for real.”

“It’s very fun, very raunchy, very sexy, and very City Girls sh*t,” Yung Miami added. “We poppin’ our sh*t, bringing that energy, at these n*ggas’ necks, and we’re puttin’ on for the bad b*tches.”

Lil Uzi Vert Celebrated ‘Just Wanna Rock’ Reaching 1 Million Units Sold With A Motivational Message To Fans

Since Lil Uzi Vert unveiled “Just Wanna Rock” in October, the hit got its own rowdy video and it even soundtracked a jumbotron dance battle at a 76ers game. It helped that the song became popular on TikTok, being used for online dance trends.

Chart Data revealed on Monday (December 26) that “Just Wanna Rock” sold over 1 million units across the country. Lil Uzi Vert took to Instagram to celebrate, sharing a screenshot on their Instagram story and writing, “Never let them get in Your head BE YOU.”

They’re also prepping for their first tour in six years. They announced that they’ll be hitting 20 cities in a Live Nation-produced run starting in March of next year, though dates and venues are still yet to be revealed. Meanwhile fans are still impatiently waiting for the release of The Pink Tape after it was delayed in October 2021. They also hinted at collaborations with Grimes, Travis Scott, and Playboi Carti on the LP. Their last record was 2020’s Eternal Atake, which was supposed to be followed by a tour that was subsequently canceled due to the pandemic.

Lil Uzi Vert Played Santa For Their Girlfriend JT, Gifting Her An Extravagant Gold Watch For Christmas

Lil Uzi Vert and their partner, City Girls’ JT, had quite an extravagant holiday, based on a new Instagram Story. JT posted that Uzi got her a gold Richard Mille watch, which HipHopDX has noted ranges in cost from “$60,000 to $1.3 million.”

While it’s still unclear how much Uzi exactly spent, JT’s watch is definitely fancy, so it’s safe to say it was still a lot. “Thank you Santa vert,” she captioned the picture with a pink heart.

Back in November, it was also speculated that the rapper power couple had split. JT herself had tweeted “SINGLE!” — but it seems now that it could have been referring to a song rather than her relationship status. Plus, as recently as July, she shared a heartfelt Instagram post for Uzi’s birthday. (It has since been removed.)

“I love you uzi,” JT wrote. “I’m crying making this post because you are literally a dream come true! I feel like with everything I been through in life you are one of my greatest rewards! I wake up everyday to either your frown or smile …either works for me, as long as you’re right there.

“You are my best friend, my twin flame. you work so hard, you deserve the world!” she added. “I love everything about you… from your main character energy to still being able to make me feel like I’m the only person in the room! I saw you go through so much & in those times you still held me down.”
