Lil Keed’s Posthumous Album Teased With “Self Employed”

After Lil Keed’s tragic death in May of 2022, his legacy in trap music continues to live on. The Atlanta native’s posthumous mixtape, Keed Talk To ‘Em 2, has been garnering high anticipation and is expected to drop on March 17th. Leading up to the release, singles by Keed have kept fans on their feet, including “Long Way To Go” which made its appearance last month. Continuing on the momentum of Keed’s successes over his career, “Self Employed” dropped Wednesday (March 8) and recounts the “hustle” mentality that the late rapper boasted.

Throughout the track, Keed alludes to his nonstop “grind” with bars like “tryna make money while I’m sleep, yeah, that my type of hustle” and “I gotta get paid, homie, I gotta get paid.” Additionally, he notes how he never finished school, but still found his way up. The release of “Self Employed” was accompanied by a music video, which now serves as a remembrance of Keed.

Lil Keed’s “Keed Talk To ‘Em 2” Teased With “Self Employed” Music Video

The YSL Records-signed rapper held a tight relationship with Young Thug since 2018. Together, the duo collaborated on numerous songs, including several in Keed’s most notable 3-part project, Trapped On Cleveland. Thug will make an appearance on Keed Talk To ‘Em 2 along with other notable rappers including Big Sean, Nav, and Trippie Redd.

“Self Employed” and “Long Way To Go” mark only two of the 20 tracks in Keed Talk To ‘Em 2. Earlier this week, the official tracklist to this posthumous effort made an apperance on the rapper’s Instagram, causing further excitement amongst fans. Executive produced by NayChur Ra’quana Render, the record marks Keed’s fifth project with YSL Records. For more news on hip-hop and pop culture, be sure to check out HNHH.

Quotable Lyrics:

Me and all these strippers lockin’ eyes, they lookin’ for money
I’m a soldier in these streets and I swear that I’m gunnin’
Ain’t gotta act gangsta with you, know I get you gone
Yeah, these figures, they quadruplin’, I ain’t got no diploma
Tell my teacher, “Would you look at that?”
I remember sittin’ in the back (Slatt)

Singles

“Long Way To Go” is the lead and only single at the moment. It came with a video and a statement from his mother, Tonnie Woods-Reed. Read it below and watch the video for the song underneath.

“On May 13, 2022, I lost my son Raqhid Render—who many of you knew as the artist Lil Keed. While this journey through the different phases of grief has been indescribably hard, a way that I have found to cope is through his music. Right before his passing, Keed was hard at work at what would’ve been his highly anticipated next album, Keed Talk to ’Em 2. As much as he was a great father, son, and friend — he was also an artist who (thanks to many of you) lived and continues to live through his music. With that being said, the time has come to share some of our last pieces of Keed with you all starting with the release of his first single, ‘Long Way to Go.’ This song holds a special place in my heart and as you guys will see it will reflect on many aspects of Keed’s journey here on Earth. I hope you all appreciate it as we take the first step in cementing Keed’s legacy. Long Live Keed!”

Lil Keed’s Posthumous “Long Way To Go” Earns A Spot On Our “Fire Emoji” Playlist

All through January, our Fire Emoji playlist brought new tunes from Ice Spice, Moneybagg Yo, A$AP Rocky, and Cordae. As we enter into a new month, the trend of hot new releases is only on the rise. This weekend, we’ve got titles from talented rappers both new and old, male and female, from coast to coast.

At the top of today’s roundup is Shy Glizzy and NBA YoungBoy’s collaborative single, “Fools Fall N Love.” The song notably has an anti-Valentine’s Day vibe to it, even though the Louisana-born rapper was recently married. It’s not the first time we’ve heard the two come together on the beat. Their streak of impressive releases previously began with “Where We Come From” and “Hard.”

Following that is the first official single from the forthcoming CREED III film. Michael B. Jordan is sitting in the director’s seat as well as starring in the movie. Additionally, Dreamville is executive producing the soundtrack. On Friday (February 3), the label shared “Ma Boy,” which subsequently showed up on our Fire Emoji playlist.

The new song finds master lyricists JID and Lute coming together to paint a vivid picture with their words. It remains unclear what other artists will assist in the project. Still, we do know it won’t be limited to just J. Cole’s team. The highly anticipated release is due out on March 3rd.

A posthumous single from Lil Keed also dropped yesterday, “Long Way To Go.” At the end of January, the late rapper’s mother made an announcement that new music from her son is coming soon. She’s organizing an album on his behalf, called Keed Talk To ‘Em 2, dropping in the near future – and likely bringing more titles to our Fire Emoji playlist.

Our final two selections of the weekend come from Skillibeng and Nardo Wick, who show out on their “16CHOPPA” single, as well as a frequent Fire Emoji flyer, GloRilla, who gave us her “Internet Trolls” track. Both titles have received a positive reaction from fans thus far, with the female rap diva’s audience continuing to grow as she rises closer to the top.

Stream our Fire Emoji update exclusively on Spotify below. Additionally, make sure to check back on Sunday (February 5) for more recommendations on our R&B Season playlist.

Lil Keed's Estate Releases His First Posthumous Single "Long Way To Go"

Lil Keed’s estate releases “Long Way To Go,” his first single since his death in May 2022. In a message issued on the rapper’s Instagram, his mother revealed the track by saying “… the time has come to share some of our last parts of Keed with you all starting with the release of his first single ‘Long Way To Go’”.

This is the first single from Keed’s next album, Keed Talk To ‘Em 2, which his mother claims Keed was working on immediately before his death.

The song is backed with a touching video that includes cameos from Keed’s daughter, mother, brothers, collaborators, and others. The gorgeous video is set in Keed’s hometown of Atlanta and incorporates footage of some of Keed’s best and worst situations.

“Long Way To Go” is jam-packed with Keed’s distinctive melodies, fun pitches, and lively delivery as it kicks off the rapper’s long-awaited sophomore album, Keed Talk To ‘Em 2.

Lil Keed Didn’t Have A ‘Long Way To Go’ To Reach Stardom In His First Posthumous Song

Lil Keed‘s first posthumous song has arrived. “Long Way To Go” dropped today along with a heartfelt statement from Keed’s mother, Tonnie Woods-Reed. In it, she reveals that he was working on a new album, Keed Talk to ’Em 2, at the time of his death from eosinophilia, and promises more to come.

Before his death at the age of 24, Keed was a rapper on the rise, receiving co-signs from the likes of Drake and Young Thug, who signed him to the YSL Records imprint. Keed died just a month before YSL Records was caught up in a racketeering indictment which saw key members like Thug and Gunna locked up for the better part of a year. Thug goes on trial this month after Gunna and several others pled guilty to racketeering in exchange for lesser sentences.

You can check out the “Long Way To Go” video above, and Woods-Reed’s statement below.

On May 13, 2022, I lost my son Raqhid Render—who many of you knew as the artist Lil Keed,” Woods-Reid said. “While this journey through the different phases of grief has been indescribably hard, a way that I have found to cope is through his music. Right before his passing, Keed was hard at work at what would’ve been his highly anticipated next album, Keed Talk to ’Em 2.
