Does Kendrick Lamar Have A Finsta?

Kendrick Lamar fans have now discovered that the rapper apparently has a second Instagram account. Or, what the kids call a “finsta.” The public profile’s first apparent post (at least of now) was a selfie from Lamar yesterday.

Adding credibility to the fact that it’s actually him, it’s the only account that Lamar follows from his regular IG profile. However, this new account does not follow anyone back.

Some other pics on the profile are throwback photos of Tupac and Michael Jackson, a video of Lamar sprinting, him seemingly holding his child, lighting fireworks, and many more extra drops from his camera roll.

The last upload was Lamar posing in front of a mirror with a stack of shoes behind him. “How I’m coming for my bday,” he captioned, complete with a shushing emoji.

And fans are loving the wildness of the range of posts. “Kendrick having a spam is sum I’d never thought I’d see,” one user commented on his page.

“Kendrick using emojis is like seeing your teacher outside of school,” another added. Even other musicians like Steve Lacy are popping up on Lamar’s page with a simple “Hey Dot.”

Check out some more of the photos from Kendrick Lamar’s alleged second Instagram account.

Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Jojoruski’ Instagram Account Showcases His Everyday Life Through Family, Friends, And More

Kendrick Lamar has a big year ahead of him. Last year, he unveiled his divisive new album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. He’s bringing it to a ton of music festivals — Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Austin City Limits, and possibly Camp Flog Gnaw.

However, the “Humble” performer is not too famous for social media antics. Yesterday (June 15), a new account popped up on Instagram under the handle @jojoruski. It’s the only account Lamar follows on his official account, and the first post is a selfie.

One of the top comments is, “Kendrick having a spam is sum id never thought id see.” Other fans beg him not to delete it yet. So far, the rapper has 13 posts, and the most recent one has a comment from Steve Lacy. Another popular comment on his post of a picture of Tupac reads: “You In Your spam account era huh bro.”

Recently, it was revealed that his Big Steppers Tour was the highest-grossing rap tour in history. It generated over $100 million and sold a total of 929,000 tickets for 73 shows and earned $110.9 million. Meanwhile, his 2012 album Good Kid, MAAD City also became the first hip-hop record to spend 10 years on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

Jack Harlow Received Some Pretty High Praise From Kendrick Lamar

Jack Harlow’s latest album, Jackman, has garnered praise from fellow musicians. The list of those who have said kind words about the album is long, and it now includes Kendrick Lamar. Jack Harlow stopped by to speak to the Rap Radar podcast about the new album. During the episode, released on June 15, Harlow shared that the recognition from his musical peers helped him overcome frustrations from his critics. Many of them had accused him of cultural appropriation or being a “culture vulture.” However, Harlow simply emphasized the importance of being a fan of the genre and having a passion for the craft. The rapper expressed excitement about recording the songs and the anticipation of how they would be received.

Jack Harlow also spoke about meeting Kendrick Lamar at the Met. He recalled the encounter with Kendrick in the interview, revealing that the rapper praised his album. According to Harlow, that praise alone gave him enough recognition to make him feel validated. He went on to express his gratitude and satisfaction. Harlow even said that he didn’t feel the need to meet anyone else after receiving Kendrick’s approval. You can check out the full interview below.

Ludacris Joins In Praising Jack Harlow’s Skills

Jack Harlow received flowers from another icon in the industry. Ludacris also showed support for Jack Harlow by giving him his official co-sign for his song “First Class.” The hit famously samples Fergie’s track “Glamorous” from 2007, which featured Luda. The icon acknowledged the perspective of hip-hop purists but commended Harlow for doing justice to the sample. He stated that he liked the record and appreciated the new generation connecting with the song. Ludacris also emphasized the importance of embracing new music even if it may not be everyone’s personal preference.

“How can I not be okay with it? I’m doing shows, and there’s a whole new generation that is identifying with the record, even if they haven’t heard my verse, simply because Jack Harlow is doing it over,” Luda said. “I feel like he did it justice. It would be different if it was a poor rendition, but it’s not. Jack Harlow did it exceptionally well, and I enjoy the record.” What do you think of the praise Harlow has been receiving? Do you agree? Let us know in the comments below!

Governor’s Ball 2023: Ari Lennox, Kendrick Lamar, And Ice Spice Among Best-Dressed Performers

Summer is nearly here, and New York City is more abuzz with celebrities than ever. The past two weekends have seen some of the biggest names in hip-hop and R&B taking the stage at Hot 97 Summer Jam, and more recently, Governor’s Ball. While the former gave us performances from Cardi B, Lil Tjay, and Coi Leray (among others), the latter saw Lizzo headlining on Friday (June 9), and Kendrick Lamar closing things out on Sunday night.

This isn’t the only time we’ve seen K-Dot outside since wrapping up his Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers World Tour. Earlier this month he caught our attention at Primavera Sound, where the Pulitzer Prize-winning lyricist brought out clones to make a creative statement. His set in NYC last night was equally as riveting, and saw him wearing an orange and white outfit paired with a backwards blue cap.

There were plenty of noteworthy style moments throughout the weekend in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Not only did those attending the event step out in their best, but artists like Ice Spice, Lil Nas X, and Ari Lennox made sure to show off plenty of body.

Elsewhere, Pusha T stepped out in a sleek Louis Vuitton look ahead of Pharrell Williams’ debut at the label. We also loved PinkPantheress’ homage to the ’00s, Giveon’s bright, all-white outfit, and Lizzo’s sparkly silver gown that had her resembling the Statue of Liberty.

Kendrick Lamar & Baby Keem’s “The Hillbillies” Is A Must-Hear On Our “Fire Emoji” Playlist

Fire Emoji time is here once again, and this Saturday (June 10) we have a beautiful balance of male and female artists for you to check out. Coming in at the top of today’s round-up is Baby Keem and Kendrick Lamar, who dropped off a surprise single, “The Hillbillies” earlier this week. They tapped Tyler, The Creator to join them in the accompanying visual, and while the Goblin artist doesn’t provide any bars, he did show off his dance moves – along with the location for his next edition of the annual Camp Flog Gnaw festival.

Another collaboration we’ve been loving is J Hus’ “Who Told You” featuring Drake. It arrives just weeks before the Canadian is set to head out on tour with 21 Savage. Following that comes the City Girls’ work on “I Need A Thug,” which received mixed reaction online, but was only a warm-up for what they delivered to us on New Music Friday. Elsewhere, Joyner Lucas and NBA YoungBoy joined forces for “Cut U Off.”

HNHH Fire Emoji Playlist

Sexyy Red is still riding the high of her “Pound Town 2” collaboration with Nicki Minaj at the end of May, but the rising rap diva isn’t done impressing us yet. Her Hood Hottest Princess project landed yesterday, and we’ve picked “SkeeYee” as the tracklist’s must-listen title. Aside from that, we also suggest Doe Boy and G Herbo’s collaboration with Future and Roddy Ricch on “TRY & SEE.” The fully loaded song appears on the first lyricist’s new BEEZY album, along with other noteworthy features.

Babyface Ray is making waves with his All Star Team LP, which we’re highlighting the title track from, and Rob49 made an impressive return on “Woedy” with Birdman. Finally, Yung Miami and Caresha’s aforementioned NMF drop, “Pinata” is the perfect pre-game party banger for summer. Stream all the latest additions exclusively on our Fire Emoji Spotify playlist. Which of the City Girls’ latest singles do you prefer? Let us know in the comments, and tap back in on Sunday for more HNHH release recommendations on our R&B Season round-up.

11 Of Rap’s Best Political Anthems

Political rap songs are a timeless staple in the genre. The roots of it continue today as tales are told of the Black experience in a myriad of ways. With political rap songs, rappers have used poetry to detail struggles and inspire those going through them. These songs are meant to bring attention to situations many already know, but some may not be. As the years have passed, rappers have created political rap songs with various perspectives, atmospheres, and styles. Some opt for an energetic and positive approach while others craft aggressive ones, but both often become anthems. They force the listener to look at the world around them and realize that many things are wrong, but something can be done. We’ve gathered 11 of the best political rap songs in this list.

11. “Kill Us All (K.U.A.)” – Meechy Darko (2022)

This political rap song touches on the black experience in America and America overall. Meechy Darko is from the trio Flatbush ZOMBiES and they have had multiple verses/songs where they speak on the corruption of America. In this solo cut, Meech handles all aspects of his commentary. His hook is almost an anthem as the background vocals shout and echo it as he delivers it.

The song’s subject matter includes multiple topics like government corruption and the hypocrisy of America. He speaks from a place of observation and hope as the hook reiterates no matter the situation, there will still be Black people who can rise up and change it. Meech’s unique raspy delivery style helps all of his words stand out, and he covers so much that pressing rewind to catch it all is entirely understandable.

10. “The Bigger Picture” – Lil Baby (2020)

This is a political rap song with strong ties to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Lil Baby is not an artist most people associate with songs like this, so it surprised his listeners once it dropped. It helped reshape his image in a big way. The authenticity behind the lyrics and the song itself contributed directly to this. The song opens with soundbites of news coverage of the protests happening all over America at the time. Lil Baby proceeds to give his commentary on the state of the black experience in America. However, in his vulnerability, he admits he may not have all the answers to solve it and his perspectives are not all-encompassing. He also speaks directly to anyone who may disapprove of the song because of his other music. He shares that all that matters is that a change happens.

9. “Lockdown Remix” – Anderson .Paak feat. JID, Noname, & Jay Rock (2020)

This is a political rap song that centers around two topics in American history: The COVID-19 Pandemic and the protests that were happening during it. However, this track does not sonically sound like the other protest anthems on this list. It’s much more relaxed, which shifts the tone but also brings attention to the lyrics.

With minimal drums and melodies, everyone’s verse sticks out and focuses on their chosen delivery as they comment on what’s happening in the world around them. Each featured artist discusses the overlapping subject matter, but how they approach it is what sets them apart. J.I.D’s verse is more confrontational, while Noname’s has her connecting metaphors. Jay Rock’s verse is filled with questions about the country and its people as he shares events that involved them. .Paak’s hook is the through-line for them all as he discusses the state of protests during the pandemic.

8. “LAND OF THE FREE” – Joey Bada$$ (2017)

This is a political rap song that doesn’t sound aggressive, but its impact is still strong. In this song, Joey discusses the hardships and trials of the Black experience in America. He views himself as someone who has the power to make a change and lead and inspire others to do the same. However, he is a victim of the same situation as those he wants to empower.

The music video for this song is one that makes the message stand out even more. It features white men in police uniforms shooting unarmed People Of Color. In the same scene, Joey stands in between them and blocks the bullets. In one of the final scenes, members of the KKK are depicted, and they remove their hoods and put on police hats.

7. “The Blacker The Berry” – Kendrick Lamar (2015)

This is one of the more aggressive-sounding political rap songs on this list. It sounds threatening and ominous because Kendrick speaks from a place of frustration. Guitars and almost militaristic drums blare from the production while its final moments contrast with peacefulness. His verses pair with the hook from Assassin well.

The hook has double entendres that connect two different generations of the Black experience in America. Meanwhile, Kendrick’s verses focus on the current generation and the many trials that come up with it. His delivery echoes the anger felt by many Black Americans, and it’s easy to tell Kendrick is pulling from his own experiences, too. His third verse dives into the stereotypes placed on black people and concludes with a purposely hypocritical and thought-provoking question.

6. “Tonz ‘O’ Gunz” – GangStarr (1994)

This political rap song is another one whose relevance remained throughout all the years since it was originally released. This time the message is an anti-violence one for the Black community. Guru speaks on the gun-based crimes going on in communities of all kinds and how it needs to stop. His verses are accurate to the multiple facets of why it happens in the first place.

He speaks about people feeling empowered but also feeling the need to protect themselves amidst the situation itself. His delivery, however, is relaxed as usual, as if he’s conversing with the listener, not lecturing them. DJ Premier’s production adds some siren-like screams which echo the type of sounds one would hear during and in the aftermath of a gun violence-based crime.

5. “F*** Tha Police” – N.W.A. (1988)

This is another iconic political rap song. The song’s title tells the message behind it in the most direct way possible. No creative allegories here. N.W.A. never sugar-coated their messages, and this is one of the biggest examples of that. Once again, the message in this song is still relevant today because the police are still killing innocent Black people. In this song, the group recounts the hostility the police had towards them and their responses to it. They all discuss how the police feel empowered with their guns but N.W.A. knows the situation would be different if they shot back. There are skits sprinkled throughout the song, with the final one depicting a policeman being convicted for his racist acts.

4. “Ladies First” – Queen Latifah feat. Monie Love (1989)

This is a political rap song that focuses on women’s empowerment. While women are critically acclaimed in rap today, this was not always the case. Queen Latifah and Monie Love were two of the most popular women in the rap game of their time. In this track, they detailed exactly why they were at the level they were at. This song focuses on their importance in the rap game and empowers women. Their verses describe the importance of women in society throughout the years and in their own lives. They trade verses as the song progresses, with some call-and-response moments and other fun exchanges. The song’s hook is simple but reinforces its theme with its harmonious repetition.

3. “Changes” – Tupac (1998)

This political rap song holds a mirror up to the state of America. In this song, the sample is a hook highlighting the connecting thread of Tupac’s verses. As he raps, he discusses the Black experience in America and the results of how these problems didn’t affect him when he was younger. He also speaks on how the country treats Black people and how Black people treat each other and finds issues with both. Sharing his takes on both of these gives the song multiple layers. Tupac takes an observational stance on most topics but delves into empowerment in his third verse and what he wants to do personally to combat the oppression. The song has a certain lightness provided by the sample, but Tupac’s three verses still stand out with timeless relevance and importance.

2. “Self Destruction” – The Stop The Violence Movement (1989)

This is a political rap song centered on a message of anti-violence. While the original Stop The Violence Movement was a supergroup formed only to release this song, other reiterations have formed as the years passed. It was a direct response to a series of violent situations at rap shows in the late 1980s and the death of Boogie Down Productions member Scott La Rock. KRS-One founded the collective and brought together over ten artists for the track. These artists included Public Enemy, Heavy D, Kool Moe Dee, Doug E. Fresh, MC Lyte, and more. Each member shares a message about how violence in the Black community has no positive outcome. The song came at a pivotal moment when the media scrutinized rap and hip-hop and showed the world that it had several positive aspects.

1. “Fight The Power” – Public Enemy (1989)

This is one of the most popular political rap songs of all time. It was released in 1990, but its relevance is still high today. This is sad because it shows how many of the issues mentioned in the song are still happening. Yet, that’s exactly what makes the song timeless, too. The song’s titular hook has become an anthem for those taken advantage of, harmed, or exploited.

Public Enemy discusses the trials of the Black experience in America. Chuck D’s first two verses focus on the unification and empowerment of Black people to stand up for their rights. While it’s not quite a violent or aggressive stance, it certainly is a confrontational one. His third verse condemns figures from white culture and how Black figures should be celebrated like they are.

Kendrick Lamar, Tyler The Creator, & Baby Keem All Smiles Behind The Scenes Of “The Hillbillies”

Kendrick Lamar, Tyler The Creator, and Baby Keem look like they had a blast on the set of their recent video for “The Hillbillies.” Yesterday, new behind the scenes photos were posted of the surprise collaboration. Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem are a talented duo with a strong familial bond. In fact, the two are cousins. Kendrick, a true icon in the hip-hop realm, is renowned for his unparalleled artistry. Meanwhile, Baby Keem has been steadily crafting an impressive body of work. The pair have collaborated before on tracks like “Family Ties” and “Range Brothers.” There, they showcased their seamless musical synergy. Baby Keem also made notable contributions to Kendrick’s acclaimed 2022 album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. Clearly, the pair enjoy working together.

Generally, Kendrick seems to prefer maintaining a low profile between projects. He likes to create anticipation for his next musical venture. However, it appears that he is taking a different approach this time. Recently, he collaborated with Beyonce on a remix of “America Has A Problem.” Then, in another surprise drop, Kendrick and Baby Keem collaborated for their new single, “The Hillbillies.” The pgLang YouTube channel surprised fans with the release of a music video for the new track.

Kendrick, Tyler, and Keem Have Fun In New Set Photos

New behind the scenes photos of “The Hillbillies” music video were posted yesterday by the Our Generation Music Instagram account. The series of pictures can be seen above. Kendrick, Tyler, and Keem look like they are having a blast in the photos. They are seen both inside and in front of Dodgers Stadium. In one picture, Tyler and Kendrick talk with the backdrop of an empty stadium behind them. In another, the trio poses with classic cars at the entrance. Lastly, there is a photo of Tyler displaying his signature goofy smile in front of the sign of the stadium. Of course, fans took to the comment section to let their thoughts be known.

Some defended the song, which has been somewhat criticized for its un-serious nature. “Songs hard not everything supposed to be serious,” one fan said. Several replied, disagreeing, contending that the song would have been received differently if Kendrick Lamar was not on it. “This Shit A*s. Let Drake or Yeat Drop Sum Like This N*ggas Having a Field Day,” replied one commenter. Other users simply wondered why the song was not on streaming services. “Why this song not on apple music tho lmao,” they said. What do you think of the “The Hillbillies”? Be sure to sound off in the comments and let us know!

Kendrick Lamar And Baby Keem’s ‘The Hillbillies’ Has Fans Thinking That It’s A Nuanced Drake Diss

For years, rap fans have maintained that Drake’s greatest foe and rival is not Kanye West or Pusha T, but Kendrick Lamar. While neither rapper has released any overtly disrespectful material mentioning the other by name, fans are convinced that Drake and Kendrick have been subtly shading each other for nearly a decade despite Drake giving Kendrick a leg-up on his 2011 album Take Care and even going to his concerts.

Baby Keem and Kendrick’s new song “The Hillbillies” has added fuel to the flame, with fans noting Kendrick using a similar flow to Drake and wondering whether it’s yet another subtle jab at the Canadian star. As one fan noted, “Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem used Drake’s Sticky flow and this is how it came out.” Another noted the similarity between Drake’s Honestly, Nevermind track “Sticky” and Kendrick and Keem’s use of Jersey club drums and similar cadences, writing, “Now give Drake his credit for predicting dance music was the new wave cause Hillbillies is just Kendrick’s version of Sticky.”

However, some fans have interpreted the use of the so-called “Sticky flow” a sneaky dig at Drake, with one comparing their lyrics and asserting that “kendrick is not jacking drake he’s CLOWNING HIM.” Others are using the wording of Keem’s own tweet promoting the track as evidence it’s meant to be a parody or spoof of Drake’s, noting that Keem himself called it “Baby Keem & Kendrick Lamar – The Hillbillies (Sticky Dub).”

There is, of course, the third option: that it’s a homage, made out of respect for Drake’s efforts in pushing the boundaries of hip-hop. After all, the use of “dub” is a nod to the Jamaican dancehall practice of “dubbing” popular hits with remixes and covers. In fact, the soundclash battles upon which hip-hop was founded stem from DJs competing to find or mix the rarest dubs in order to draw bigger crowds and responses with their respective sound systems.

Now, whether it’s a diss, a dub, or a case of follow-the-leader, it’s still pushing forward the genre and the culture — and goes to show how both Drake and Kendrick aren’t just fixtures of rap, but pioneers in guiding it to its future.

Will Kendrick Lamar And Baby Keem Headline Camp Flog Gnaw 2023?

Last year, Tyler The Creator did not host his annual Camp Flog Gnaw festival. “It’s really not that deep,” his manager Chris Clancy explained at the time. “Tyler toured all year and was busy with a number of projects. Reading the tea leaves and what’s happening with festivals coming out of the pandemic, we thought it would be best to come back next year.”

Fans are awaiting an announcement. But Tuesday, May 30 was a big signifier of exciting things en route. Baby Keem and Kendrick Lamar, noted cousins and collaborators, teamed up for a new song called “The Hillbillies,” in which they rap over a sample of Bon Iver’s “PDLIF.” The video catches the pair in LA’s Beverly Center Mall as well as Dodger Stadium.

Where Camp Flog Gnaw comes into play is when Tyler The Creator makes an unexpected cameo toward the end of the video, appearing alongside Keem and Kenny at the Dodger Stadium entrance where a button on his shirt announces that the festival is returning for 2023.

So, are Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem headlining this year’s Camp Flog Gnaw? It’s not confirmed, but it’s looking quite safe to assume so. Why else would the announcement occur in their music video?

Watch the video above.
