YNW Melly Retrial Start Date Revealed, Judge Wants “Urgency”

The retrial for YNW Melly’s double murder case faced numerous delays since the original trial’s conclusion in a mistrial in July 2023. However, according to new reports from journalist Bryson “Boom” Paul, Judge John Murphy III believes that they must nor fret any further, Moreover, he declared that jury selection in the rapper’s retrial will begin on March 5 “or as soon thereafter as this [case] may be heard,” according to new court documents. For those unaware, Melly stands accused of murdering his colleages YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser in October of 2018. Authorities arrested him in February of 2019.

Furthermore, this follows recent reports on what prosecutors submitted and prepared for this upcoming process. It will be very interesting to see if they changed their tactics at all, or if they will simply reiterate their original arguments. Regardless, they named dozens of YNW Melly’s songs as evidence, which became as controversial as any other instance of hip-hop lyrics as court material. In addition, the impetus for this start date, according to these documents, the Florida MC “has been in custody for more than 750 days while awaiting trial.”

YNW Melly’s Retrial Will Begin On March 5: Report

From what Paul reported, Judge Murphy “expressed urgency in getting the retrial underway” in a Friday hearing (January 12). Not only that, but additional pre-trial hearing will, if accordant with the established schedule, take place this week on Thursday and Friday (January 18 and 19). This is to resolve anticipated or emergent situations ahead of jury selection to make YNW Melly’s retrial as speedy and competent as possible. At press time, no indication came up regarding whether these will be the only pre-trial hearings, or if we can expect any in February. As such, the “No Belt” artist is patiently waiting to see if any other complications surge.

Meanwhile, other recent developments in this case involve Fredo Bang reflecting on his relationship with the suspect. He is also a key player in these proceedings, as he faced accusations of transporting Melly after the alleged murder. Apparently, they have not spoken since 2022. Las Vegas Judge Attacker Deobra Redden In Court Again On Separate Charges After Sentencing

Very few victims have the opportunity to sentence their attackers in court, but on Monday (January 8), Judge Mary Kay Holthus once again came face to face with Deobra Redden while seated comfortably at her bench. 2024 began on a wild note in Las Vegas, as the latter lunged at the former during a court hearing for attempted battery conviction charges last week. The incident led to time spent in isolation, as well as a “2C” inmate classification. This is the most restriction an inmate at Clark County Jail can receive, TMZ reports.

When returning to Nevada court this week, the alleged criminal had guards on each side of him, covers on his hands, and a mesh face mask. Even with the past tension between them, Holthus kept her composure during sentencing. She agreed with prosecutors in giving Redden a 19-48 month sentence for the battery incident. Today (January 9), he’s speaking with a different judge in regard to his latest crimes, for which he’s facing 13 charges.

Judge Mary Kay Holthus Sentences Her Attacker in Las Vegas

According to FOX 5 Vegas, Redden has a long list of felony counts against him. Attempted murder against an older person, battery on a protected person resulting in substantial bodily harm against an older person, and extortion are all named. Elsewhere, prosecutors say the inmate is guilty of unlawful act regarding fluid by a prisoner in confinement, and battery by a probationer or parolee. “In the next few days, my office will be reviewing all of the reports to determine what charges to bring based on Mr. Redden’s behaviour in court,” Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson told the outlet. “We’re reviewing all the reports, the witness statements, the extent of the injuries suffered by persons, certainly felony charges without a doubt.”

The past few months have been particularly busy in the crime world, with the YSL RICO trial, YNW Melly’s impending double murder retrial, and Jonathan Majors’ guilty verdict among topics making headlines. Unfortunately for the Florida native, his day in court has been postponed, meaning he’ll be spending even more time awaiting his fate in a cell. In a shocking turn of events, Deobra Redden, the individual who attacked Las Vegas Judge Mary Kay Holthus during his sentencing hearing last week, was once again in front of her for a separate case on Monday, January 8.

Entering the courtroom surrounded by marshals, Redden appeared in restraints, wearing a spit mask, shackles on his wrists and legs, and orange mitts on his hands. Despite his aggressive actions in the previous encounter, he reportedly smiled at family members as he shuffled into court.

This time, Judge Holthus sentenced Redden to 19 to 48 months in prison for a 2022 attack involving a baseball bat. The defendant now faces 13 additional charges stemming from the assault on the judge.

The previous attack occurred after Judge Holthus denied Redden’s request for probation due to his history of violent offenses. Unshackled at the time, Redden leaped over the judge’s bench, attempting to put her in a headlock. Quick intervention by the judge’s law clerk and a marshal prevented further harm.

Holthus, who suffered a minor head injury, returned to work the next day. Despite the incident, she made it clear that Redden should be brought back to her courtroom for sentencing by any means necessary.

Redden’s reported statement to jail guards, citing the judge as “evil,” raises concerns about his mental health. His attorney previously disclosed that he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

The case underscores the challenges faced by the legal system in managing individuals with mental health issues and the importance of courtroom security protocols.

Gunna Cites His “Gift From God” In Resurfaced Letter To Judge

After getting arrested in a major RICO indictment, Gunna was released from prison in December of last year. The indictment saw the arrest of 25 alleged YSL members, including Young Thug. Since Gunna’s release, the performer has been bombarded with allegations that he “snitched” on his co-defendants, though he vehemently denies this.

Nowadays, the Georgia native is enjoying his freedom, reveling in the success of his latest album, A Gift & a Curse. Amid the first anniversary of his release, social media users have dug up a letter the rapper wrote to the judge while still behind bars, in which he defends his innocence. The emotional letter has re-sparked conversations surrounding his incarceration, and of course, Thugger’s ongoing RICO trial.

Gunna Maintains His Innocence In Powerful Letter

“2022 has been one of the best years of my life, despite this difficult situation,” his letter begins. “This year I had the whole world pushing P.” He continues, citing his upbringing, and how his art has allowed him to make a positive impact on the lives of others. “I use my art form, my gift from God, to change my circumstances,” he wrote. “For now, I don’t have any freedom. But I am innocent. I hate being falsely accused and will never stop fighting to clear my name! The picture that is being painted of me is ugly and untrue… I have all faith that God will grant me justice for the purity in my heart and the innocence of my actions.”

“Nothing will stop me from chasing my dreams,” he added. “I won’t stop being a good person, even if some unnamed and unknown accusers want to see me as a bad person.” What do you think of Gunna’s letter to the judge resurfacing? Young Thug RICO Trial Judge “Very Angry” In Court, Mistrial Rumblings Begin

Young Thug’s eagerly-anticipated RICO trial is finally underway, however, it may not be for much longer. According to Law & Crime‘s Cathy Russon, Judge Ural Glanville, who’s overseeing the trial, recently got upset in the courtroom. “Judge Glanville appeared very angry and called all attorneys back in chambers,” she Tweeted earlier today. “Working to get more information but murmurs about a mistrial. Stand by!”

While it remains unclear what upset him, there’s been some chatter online surrounding the media accidentally showing jurors’ faces in footage from the trial. This has resulted in images of the jurors floating around, which obviously pose a serious security risk. Young Thug has already been awaiting trial for quite some time now, with several delays surrounding the jury selection process. If Judge Glanville chooses to rule this a mistrial, the rapper will stay behind bars awaiting his next trial, and the process will restart.

Delays Could Continue In Young Thug’s Case

Russon’s news follows Young Thug’s request for a mistrial on the first day of the trial. Judge Glanville swiftly denied the request. His attorney Brian Steel accused prosecutors of intentional misconduct, noting how they failed to provide the defense with slides from their opening statement. Judge Glanville eventually had jurors leave the courtroom to get the situation sorted, calling out the prosecution for their lack of preparation. He got frustrated at the time as well due to ongoing delays.

Young Thug’s attorney continues to get attention amid the trial for his compelling, and arguably amusing, arguments. Earlier this week, Steel argued that the name of Young Thug’s 2022 track with Gunna and Future, “Pushin P,” actually stands for “pushing positivity.” What do you think of reports that Judge Ural Glanville got upset in court today? How about the possibility that he could rule this a mistrial? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Young Thug Trial Judge Brings Service Dog To The Courtroom: Watch

Young Thug is currently on trial in the YSL RICO case. Overall, this is a case that a lot of people have been keeping a watchful eye on, and for good reason. If convicted, Thugger could be going to prison for decades. However, if he gets off, it would be a huge win for the hip-hop world. The trial began just yesterday, and already, there is quite a bit to unpack. In fact, a lot of the biggest stories involve the State and how they have already made some massive mistakes since their opening statements.

For instance, the DA tried to shift the burden of proof over to the defense, which is simply not how trials work. The judge has been quite ticked off about the State and the defense not doing the things he asked of them. He seemed frustrated with the waste of time that was being displayed in the court, and he has already become a viral figure. Central to this is the fact that he brought a service dog with him to court, and he will continue to do so throughout the rest of the trial’s proceedings.

In the video above, he explains that the dog is extremely friendly. Overall, he doesn’t bark or really wander around. Instead, he is just extremely well trained and there to do a singular job. Moreover, the judge made sure to warn people that they are not to feed his pooch. This is because he believes the dog is already pretty spoiled. It was a humorous moment in the trial that a lot of folks appreciated. However, it remains to be seen how the dog will affect the trial moving forward. Most likely, the dog won’t make an impact. Albeit, the dog is cute.

Young Thug’s Mistrial Motion Denied During Chaotic First Day Of Trial

After months of jury selection and more than a year and a half behind bars, Young Thug’s YSL RICO trial finally began earlier today. The trial is streaming online and thousands of fans are tuning in to follow the twists and turns as the rap star’s fate is decided. Before opening statements could even get underway today, however, there was already drama.

Thug’s attorney Brian Steel accused the prosecution of intentional misconduct after they failed to provide the defense with the text slides in their opening statement. The judge was forced to excuse the jurors from the courtroom while the situation was sorted out. While the judge did chastise the prosecution for not turning over all of their slides he ultimately declined Steel’s move for a mistrial. The judge clearly wasn’t happy with either the prosecution or the defense for delays in the trial. Check out the most recent updates in the Young Thug case as they happen below.

Young Thug’s Trial Off To A Rocky Start

Even though the trial itself just started today, there’s already been months of drama for fans to sift through. A few weeks ago the judge officially ruled that lyrics from various Young Thug songs will be allowed as evidence in the trial. The decision was largely unpopular with fans and fellow rappers. Subsequently many, like Meek Mill and Killer Mike spoke out against it. Rap lyrics being used in trials has been a hot topic for years. Some states are even moving to pass laws forbidding them from being used as evidence. Unfortunately for Thug, they’re allowed in Georgia where he’s on trial.

There was also more friction between lawyers and judges during the pre-trial process. The judge in the case had to administer a warning to Thug’s lawyer. It came after he called one particular witness evaluation a “farce.” It was just one of many issues the judge had with lawyers leading up to the trial. What do you think of interruptions already taking place in the YSL RICO trial even on the very first day? Let us know in the comment section below.

Tyrese Again Demands New Judge In Divorce Case

Tyrese has filed a motion to recuse Judge Kevin Farmer from the actor and singer’s ongoing divorce trial. According to court filings, Tyrese has claimed that Judge Farmer is prejudiced against him and has not granted Tyrese due process. The primary example of this cited in the filings is Farmer reportedly canceling a hearing and demanding an expedited 10-day payment of a $450,000 bond. Reportedly, the canceled hearing would have seen Tyrese explain why he would be unable to source that amount of money in such a short amount of time.

According to the court docs, the months-long SAG-AFTRA strike deeply affected his income for the year so far. However, at least according to him, the hearing was canceled just days before it was supposed to happen. Furthermore, the actor claimed that he was not given a reason why the hearing was canceled. All of this has been provided as evidence that Judge Farmer is not giving Tyrese a fair trial. However, this is not the first time that Tyrese has tried to get Judge Farmer recused. The actor mounted an unsuccessful effort to do so last year.

Tyrese Hit With Airbnb Lawsuit

However, the legal issues just keep mounting for Tyrese. The actor has been served with a $25K lawsuit for “unauthorized alterations” to an Airbnb he recently stayed in. Tiffanique Webb claims that he made alterations “well in excess” of the $500 security deposit and that the property is now “unrentable” to other guests until Webb is able to repair the damage left by the actor and singer. Webb’s documents did not specify the nature of the altercations. However, she filed her suit with the Supreme Court of California.

Furthermore, Tyrese is also in a bitter legal battle with Home Depot. The actor sued the hardware chain for $1 million, arguing that they racially discriminated against two of his associates. After Home Depot publicly responded, the actor went after the company CEO’s public support of Donald Trump. However, the future of the case looks murky after the company revealed they had surveillance footage of Tyrese’s purported interaction with the discriminatory cashier.

Young Thug’s Latest Attempt To Have RICO Case Thrown Out Is Denied

Judge Ural Glanville in Georgia has denied Young Thug’s motion to have his RICO case thrown out. The rapper’s attorney, Brian Steel, argued that the grand jury failed to properly accuse Young Thug of knowingly committing the allegations in the original indictment.

“Mr. Williams is innocent of all charges in the above-referenced indictment,” Steel wrote in the motion. “The grand jury wrongfully re-indicted Mr. Williams in the above-reference case on or about October 5, 2022 in count one – conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influence and Corrupt Organizations Act; count 56 and 57 – participation in criminal street gang activity; counts 58, 59 and 60 – violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act; count 61 – possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony; and count 62 – possession of a machine gun.”

Glanville disagreed with Steel’s argument, instead suggesting that the language used was sufficient. “I find that the state’s indictment tracks the language of the statute and is sufficient therein for counts one, 56, 57, 58, 59 and 60, 61 and 62 as it pertains to the state versus Mr. Jeffery Williams,” the judge said. “For those reasons, the court is going to deny the defendant’s plea and bar motion to dismiss general demurrer.”

In the end, Glanville noted that Thug could still appeal his initial ruling, but that it “won’t stop the trial of this matter.” The decision comes as opening statements are scheduled to begin on November 27. While Thug waits behind bars, his partner, Mariah The Scientist, recently revealed that the two intend to get married when he’s a free man. During a recent interview, she added that she thinks about what life will be like once Thug gets out “all day long.” “I feel like being imaginative can help every human being on earth not lose your mind. It is like a little slight state of delusion,” she said. Be on the lookout for further updates on Young Thug’s case on HotNewHipHop.

Quando Rondo Will Not Be Banned From Chatham County, Georgia, Judge Rules

Quando Rondo will not be banned from entering Chatham County in Georgia, despite prosecutors’ attempts otherwise. Chatham County Superior Court Judge Tammy Stokes reached the decision on Monday, according to Savannah Morning News. The attempted ban followed a car crash involving the rapper on July 19. At the scene of the incident, he showed signs of an overdose. Additionally, Rondo was present at a shooting on September 20, in which a group of people including Quando Rondo, were attacked. In response, prosecutors wanted Rondo banned “from the confines of Chatham County except for court appearances, meetings with defense counsel, and medical treatment.”

Denying their request, Judge Stokes argued: “Preliminary investigation suggests that the defendant and/or members of his entourage were the targets of this attack. Based on the State’s case, it appears that the defendant was, in fact, victim. Accordingly, the motion is denied.”
