Jorja Smith Sets The Tone For R&B Season With Her “falling or flying” LP: Stream

There are a lot of powerhouse female vocalists holding down the R&B genre, but music lovers have long been waiting for a new album from Jorja Smith. The U-born beauty returned this New Music Friday (September 29) with 16 stunning songs on her falling or flying album. It marks her first full-length effort since 2018’s Lost & Found, which put her on the map thanks to songs like “Don’t Watch Me Cry” and “Blue Lights.”

Smith collaborated with only two other artists across 16 songs. The first guest appearance comes from J Hus on “Feelings.” Following that, we hear from Lila Ike on “Greatest Gift.” Prior to dropping off falling or flying, the 26-year-old gave her fans a taste of what she’s been cooking up with singles like “Little Things,” “Try Me,” and “GO GO GO.”

Jorja Smith Taps J Hus for “Feelings”

In an interview with Elle, Smith reflected on how things have changed from her Lost & Found days to now. “I was at the end of being a teenager. I was probably more confident then, I didn’t really care as much. Now, I probably care more about things. I feel the pressure more, I think. Before, I didn’t. Not with my music, but just about what people think of me and s**t. I’m trying to be more of that person, so hopefully I’ll get back like that,” she explained.

Get a sample of what Jorja Smith has to offer on her falling or flying album by streaming “Feelings” above. If you’re a fan of that, you can find the full LP on Spotify/Apple Music. Jorja Smith Calls On J Hus And Lila Iké For Her Upcoming Album ‘Falling Or Flying’

Jorja Smith announced her second studio album, Falling Or Flying, back in May, and this week, she revealed the tracklist and features. The album will be 16 tracks long and feature Lila Iké and J Hus, whose album Beautiful And Brutal Yard she appeared on in July. The album will also include the single “Little Things,” for which she released a rave-set video in May.

She also released a video for the title track, “Falling Or Flying,” which you can see above. In the video, Jorja sings in an underground lab set up like a hospital room, with the lyrics evoking the pining restlessness that comes from her uncertain standing in an undefined relationship. While she’s unsure that investing would be worth it, playing it cool has its drawbacks as well.

Falling Or Flying, the album, is due 9/29 via FAMM. It’s Jorja’s first full-length project since 2018’s Lost & Found and follows the 2021 EP Be Right Back, which featured the singles “Addicted,” “Bussdown,” “Come Over,” and “Gone.”

Jorja Smith Wants You To “GO GO GO” On Her New Single

One of the most show-stopping voices in the entire music industry released her new song “GO GO GO.” That is none other than Jorja Smith. This is the third single to her newest project, falling or flying. It is slated for release on September 29 of this year and it would only be her second album, not having dropped her first and last project since 2018. Moreover, this upcoming effort will see Jorja taking her voice and lacing it over different genres of music.

Firstly, “Little Things,” saw the UK singer take her shot at a dancehall vibe that is intoxicating to the senses. Additionally, “Try Me,” was another stunning display of her vocal chops and ear for tremendous production choices. With “GO GO GO,” she takes her talents to more of an alternative sound, ready to move on from a relationship.

What’s The Meaning?

In a recent interview, Jorja Smith described “GO GO GO.” “[It] is kind of a f you song,” she said. “Why do people have to kiss and tell, kind of vibe. I’m in my little alternative bag, but I’ve always kind of been in it. People might be like, ‘I didn’t expect this’, but I’m like: ‘well, I would!’” The song has already received high remarks from fans and it seems like the perfect song to dance around the bedroom with not a care in the world.

What do you think about Jorja Smith’s new track? Does she have one of the best singing voices of all time? Where’s your excitement level at for her new album? Jorja Smith Trends On Twitter As Fans Shut Down Body-Shaming Comments

26-year-old Jorja Smith is best known for two things – her naturally alluring beauty, and her show-stopping voice. She’s still relatively new to the music industry compared to other R&B darlings, but it was back in 2016 when her Project 11 EP made a serious mark on the industry. Since then, she’s made magic on Lost & Found in 2018, as well as 2021’s Be Right Back. The latter consists of just eight titles, but thankfully Smith has held us over with a string of singles since then.

The most recent to come from the “Let Me Down” songstress is the Nia Archives remix of “Little Things,” which she shared a visual for this past New Music Friday. So far, Smith’s loyal fanbase has been loving the fun track, but that unfortunately hasn’t stopped critics from making comments about her body. The new clip shows that Jorja has put on some weight in recent months, but she wears it well, carrying herself with complete confidence in a white crop top.

Jorja Smith Shares “Little Things (Remix)” Video with Nia Archives

On Monday (June 19), the Walsall native began trending on Twitter as reactions to the “Little Things (Remix)” came pouring in. Thankfully for Smith, the amount of love and praise we’re seeing far outweighs those trying to make her feel ashamed about her changing figure. “Jorja Smith did not ask anyone to make her their sex symbol, and now they’re insulting her because she gained some weight?” one user pointed out. “And they think they’re normal?” they later asked.

“Jorja Smith just released her best song to date but the internet is busy insulting her, what a shame,” someone else wrote, encouraging readers to stream the catchy track. Of course, there have been plenty of thirsty responses too, making it obvious that the recording artist is still an object of desire, no matter what size she is.

The Biggest R&B Singers Who Are Geminis

Geminis are known for their inquisitive minds, creative talents, and witty charm. R&B, as a genre, boasts many successful Gemini singers. There’s no shortage of Gemini talents between the legacy acts written in the history books and the newer, rising stars. Coming in right at the end of the Taurus season, the Gemini season is covered between May 21 and June 21.

Every year, fans celebrate many R&B singers that were born during Gemini season. It’s a season stacked with some outstanding vocalists, from Lenny Kravitz to Lionel Richie to Maxwell. Here are more major Gemini singers that deserve all the love.

Patti LaBelle

The Godmother of Soul needs no introduction. Patti LaBelle has been blessing the world with her insane vocals for over 60 years. The multitalented artist kicked off her successful career as the lead singer of Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles. Since then, the powerhouse vocalist and actress has been inspiring generations to come. Patti LaBelle was born on May 24 in 1944.

Lauryn Hill

Lauryn Hill has received several honorific titles in her career. However, the one that sticks for most fans is “Queen of Hip Hop.” Despite being one of the most famous Gemini rappers of all time, she also makes the list of the best R&B singers that share the star sign. Lauryn Hill’s contributions to Hip Hop and R&B are magnanimous. She has influenced many established artists today, including Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj. With a soulful voice equally as bright as her sleek rap tone, Lauryn Hill has always been in a league of her own. Moreover, she was already a showstopper in The Fugees before her outstanding solo career began. She was born on May 26 in 1975.

Gladys Knight

Gladys Knight has been widely referred to as the Empress of Soul. The legendary star has won hearts with her soulful voice since she was young. She became a household name in the ’60s as the lead singer of her family group Gladys Knight & The Pips. Consequently, her solo career proved even more of a hit worldwide. One of the most revered Gemini singers, Gladys Knight’s music has influenced generations of artists. She was born on May 28.

Normani

Normani has achieved superstardom with the girl group Fifth Harmony and as a solo artist. The Atlanta native is known for her musical versatility and incredible dance skills. Her music videos often feature elaborate dance sequences and performances, earning her a growing reputation. In a promotional video for Nike’s “Conscious Movement” program, the singer referred to the Gemini season as “the best season.”

However, she cheekily pointed out that she’s definitely a little biased as she’s a Gemini. Normani’s voice was made for R&B, and it’s no wonder her fans continue riding with her. She is undoubtedly one of the world’s rising Gemini superstars. She was born on May 31 in 1996.

Prince

Prince’s legacy will always be monumental. He is one of the most talented artists in music history. His music covered various genres, and he quickly rose to fame with his explosive on-stage persona. Additionally, Prince was praised for being a highly skilled multi-instrumentalist. The Grammy and Oscar winner is one of the most influential musicians ever. Moreover, his works are often cited as musical masterpieces, and his stage presence is always a lesson in dedication, energy, and power. The fashion icon and music legend was born on June 7, 1958.

For his work on his eleventh studio album, Prince introduced his alter ego Gemini to the world. The album also served as the soundtrack for the 1989 film Batman. In the music videos for the songs “Batdance” and “Partyman,” the character donned makeup on one side of his face, referencing the villain Joker. The other half was bare, referencing the heroic nature of Batman.

Faith Evans

Faith Evans dominated the late ’90s with the albums Faith and Keep the Faith. Both records went Platinum and put the singer in the limelight. Despite a troubled relationship with The Notorious B.I.G., she honored him with the song “I’ll Be Missing You.” The Grammy-winning tribute became one of her signature songs. Besides her music career, Faith Evans has starred in several shows in the reality TV genre. Another one of many talented Gemini singers, Faith Evans is R&B royalty. She was born on June 10.

Jorja Smith

Jorja Smith is one of the UK’s most appreciated R&B exports. Known for her relaxed singing style, Jorja Smith has captivated audiences with her vocals. She has ventured into trip-hop and grime, all while maintaining her signature style. Her debut album, Lost & Found, put her on the map and showcased her talents at a young age. Jorja Smith Will Be ‘Falling Or Flying’ On Her Newly Announced Sophomore Album

Jorja Smith is back. The 25-year-old singer has collaborated with FKA Twigs, Brent Faiyaz, and Sonder. Today (May 18), she announced her new album Falling Or Flying arriving this fall. Her previous songs “Little Things” and “Try Me” will be on the record.

Falling Or Flying comes on September 29. It follows her 2021 EP Be Right Back. “It’s called Be Right Back because it’s just something I want my fans to have right now, this isn’t an album and these songs wouldn’t have made it,” she said at the time. If I needed to make these songs, then someone needs to hear them too.”

About Falling Or Flying, she said in a statement, “It touches on breakups, relationships with my friends, relationships with old friends, relationships with myself. It’s definitely about a lot of relationships, but every song I write I can sing it to myself.”

Meanwhile, her collaborator Twigs actually ended up being her cousin. “I’d never met her before, and I jumped in her car with her,” Twigs shared, “and I remember thinking to myself, ‘Gosh, that’s really strange: we’ve got exactly the same kind of skin.’ […] A few months later, I was on the road to go to LA and [Smith] left me a voice note saying, ‘You’re never going to believe this, but I’ve just spoken to my dad and he’s spoken to his sister and we’re related.’”

Falling Or Flying is out 9/29 on FAMM. Find more information here.
