Jorge Masvidal And Nate Diaz Scrap MMA Rematch, Will Box Instead

Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz with have a boxing match in June as opposed to an MMA rematch. The fight, dubbed “Last Man Standing” will occur on June 1 and be preceded by a multi-city promotional tour. While Masvidal will be coming out of retirement for the fight, the UFC still had to approve it as he is still under contract with them.

“Nate’s a dead man walking. I can’t wait to prove that last time was no fluke. He got saved by the referee. Now we are boxing, which he says is his forte, but he’s got no shot at beating me. I’m not going to give him an inch in that ring to even breathe. If he thought our MMA match was bad, this is going to be much worse. I’m going to drown him. I want to put away any talk that him and I are the same, or that the referee saved the day. All of that talk ends June 1. Violence and throwing hands are in both of our bloods but as I proved before, I’m a far superior athlete and I’m a meaner fighter. When June 1 comes I’ll put all unanswered questions to rest, live for the world to see,” Masvidal said in a statement.

Jorge Masvidal Claims Police Were Biased Against Him

Masvidal’s retirement was also marked by an ongoing beef with Covington. Masvidal allegedly attacked Covington outside a Miami Beach restaurant 17 days after he lost to Covington at UFC 272. Footage of the incident quickly emerged online and Masvidal was charged with two felonies. Furthermore, Covington has claimed Masvidal broke his tooth and gave him brain damage.

However, according to court documents from last April, Masvidal claimed that the Miami Beach Police Department showed “favoritism” towards Covington. According to Masvidal, Covington did not call 911 but a Miami Beach sergeant he trained with. Additionally, Masvidal claimed that when said sergeant arrived, he called in a “Code 3”. Code 3 is a police response code for an incident that “is defined as an emergency response determined by factors such as immediate danger to officer or public safety.” He also alleges that the unnamed sergeant made calls to individual officers to request their presence. Furthermore, Masvidal claims that in a podcast appearance prior to the incident, Covington said that he “rolls with the Miami Beach Police Department.”

Jorge Masvidal Puts Colby Covington Assault Case To Bed

Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington got into a pretty gnarly situation after the two fought in the Octagon for real. Overall, it did not end well for either party. On one end, you had Covington who lost a tooth and who was concussed. Meanwhile, Masvidal was charged with aggravated assault and criminal mischief charges. Needless to say, this was not a good look for Masvidal, who had just lost his fight. Now, however, there is a new development in the case that is good for Gamebred.

According to TMZ, Jorge Masvidal will not face any punishment for what took place. There will be no jail time, and additionally, there will be no probation. By pleading no contest to misdemeanor battery, the MMA star was able to get his two previous charges scrubbed from the record. While Masvidal has not claimed guilt in this, guilt will appear on his record. Effectively, that is the only punishment that the fighter has to face.

KSI & Tommy Fury Fight Labeled A “Disgrace To Boxing”

MMA legend Jorge Mavidal blasted the boxing match between KSI and Tommy Fury as a “disgrace to boxing”. The fight was the marquee bout of the Prime Card, which also featured Logan Paul fighting Dillon Danis. However, fans were left disappointed as Fury put little effort into his majority decision win. KSI was overmatched and completely gassed by the end of the fight. This led to extended periods of clinching and grappling, typically instigated by the YouTuber. This led many disgruntled fans and reporters to state that the fight was closer to wrestling than boxing.

KSI has come into the fight with a major chip on his shoulder, as well as claims that Fury wasn’t taking the fight seriously. However, KSI offered little in the way of challenge for Fury and the close scorecards were more a reflection of Fury’s lack of effort than anything on the part of the YouTuber.

Dillon Danis Challenges Logan Paul To MMA Fight

Meanwhile, following the night’s other headliner, Dillon Danis has called on Logan Paul for a rematch in the Octagon. “A Jiu Jitsu guy with no boxing camp or coach made his debut, never wobbled, never dropped, had no standing 8 count, and rocked you multiple times. If I were Nina, I’d call off the wedding. You achieved nothing in your own sport, MMA next,” Danis wrote on social media Saturday morning. It was a response to post from Paul himself. “Honestly nothing to be proud about. that dude sucks, a real cunt. I’m gonna go back to living my life but felt good to beat his ass for 6 rounds and let him embarrass himself. Drink prime,” Paul wrote on social media an hour or so after the fight.

Furthermore, Paul, who chose to speak with the media after the fight, had nothing positive to say about Danis. “Dillon Danis truly is a coward. I forgave Dillon before this fight started. It was the only way to attack this fight without emotion. But he was calling himself a real fighter? Conor McGregor, you see that?” Paul said. Furthermore, he quickly turned his attention back to his current day job – fighting in the WWE. “This is a hobby for me. My true passion, I’m a WWE superstar. I’m an American boy, and I want that U.S. title. Rey Mysterio, I already beat you once and I’m coming for that U.S. championship.”

Jorge Masvidal Calls Conor McGregor A “B*tch,” Wants To Fight Him In The Street

Jorge Masvidal recently had a conversation with Michael Babcock for TMZ Sports, hinting at a possible UFC return. When asked who he would take on amid his return, he replied, “Whoever’s got the BMF belt.” Conor McGregor was then mentioned, and Masvidal revealed that he’s got a bit of a bone to pick with the MMA star. “Really I would like to fight Conor because he’s such a b*tch,” he explained. “I can’t stand that dude. But him on the street for free, ’cause he’ll never fight me in the ring.”

Masvidal continued, “He never mentions my f***ing name in a comment.””[McGregor] calling out Dustin and Justin,” he added, “Shut the f**k up, and do the due process. You f***ing b*tch!” It’s clear that Masvidal has some ongoing beef with McGregor, and he’s looking to squash it outside of the ring.

Jorge Masvidal Says He “Can’t Stand” Conor McGregor

According to Masvidal, the only opportunity he would get to take on McGregor is on the street. “Conor doesn’t want [a fight with me]. He’s shut it down like 3 or 4 times and he’s told people that I’m too big for him, yet he’s at my weight class, 170,” he explained. He then went on to give some grisly details of how he’d win against McGregor. “He knows that the way that I’d beat him is the way that he wins fights. Stand up, f***ing punching his teeth in and kicking his ribs in,” he shared. “So I know it’s just not good for his brand.”

As for Masvidal’s potential return to the UFC, he didn’t give a clear timeline as to when he plans to do so. Having just retired in April, it appears that it won’t be happening anytime soon. “I think I’m going to have to come back and snatch that belt up real quick. Something like that. But not at [155 lbs.], they gotta come up to [170 lbs.],” he said. “A UFC fight. Not now, but at some point, I think I gotta come back.

Jorge Masvidal’s Dad Arrested After Shooting at Fighter’s Home

The father of MMA fighter Jorge Masvidal has been arrested after shooting a man at his son’s home. First reported by TMZ, Jorge Masvidal Sr. was booked at around 1:30am on May 5. According to the arrest report, Masvidal Sr. shot Luis Leoncini at Masvidal Jr.’s Florida residence after a verbal altercation. Masvidal Jr. was not in the house at the time. Furthermore, police has reiterated that Masvidal Jr. had “no involvement whatsoever” with the May 4 altercation.

Masvidal Sr. has been charged with second-degree attempted murder with a deadly weapon. He was initially arrested at around 3:25pm on May 4. A subsequent search of the home found a .38 pistol in a kitchen cabinet. Police did not release details about what the altercation stemmed from. According to police, Leoncini was shot in both arms by Masvidal Sr. after their verbal argument.

The arrest of Masvidal Sr. comes while his son, who again was not present at the time of the reported shooting, also faces legal issues. In March 2022, Masvidal Jr. reportedly assaulted fellow MMA fighter Colby Covington in Miami. The alleged incident came just weeks after Covington had beaten Masvidal at UFC 272. Masvidal Jr. was charged with a number of felonies, while Covington claimed he had lost a tooth and suffered brain damage. Covington has not fought professionally since the alleged attack last March. However, in March 2023, Dana White confirmed Covington would be the next opponent of Leon Edwards.

Masvidal Jr. has since hit back over the allegations, claiming there was an element of police favoritism towards Covington during the incident. Masvidal Jr. is scheduled to have a hearing about his case this month. Furthermore, Masvidal Jr. has not issued a public statement over the events that took place at his house on May 4. Masvidal Jr. retired from MMA after losing to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287 in April 2023. Follow HotNewHipHop for all the latest updates in this case.

Jorge Masvidal Alleges Police Sided With Covington

The aftermath of the altercation between MMA stars Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington in March 2022 has slowly unfolded over recent months. According to reports, Masvidal allegedly attacked Covington outside a Miami Beach restaurant 17 days after he lost to Covington at UFC 272. Footage of the incident quickly emerged online and Masvidal was charged with two felonies.

More details have since surfaced. Covington has claimed Masvidal broke his tooth and gave him brain damage. Covington has not fought in the Octagon since his March 2022 bout with Masvidal. However, he is rumored to be the next opponent for welterweight champion Leon Edwards. All this comes during a legal battle for Masvidal, who pled not guilty to both charges. Masvidal has also since retired, following a brutal loss at UFC 287. However, Masvidal has now hit back with new claims about the incident.

New Court Documents Show New Masvidal Claim

According to court documents acquired by TMZ, Masvidal has made some bombshell claims regarding the March 2022 incident. Notably, he has claimed that the Miami Beach Police Department showed “favoritism” towards Covington.

As a result of the new claims, Masvidal’s attorney Bradford Cohen is making several demands. He wants several new pieces of evidence, including Covington’s podcast comments, entered into the court record. In a statement Cohen said, “From our investigation and witness depositions it’s clear that protocol was not followed that evening and Mr. Covington received preferential treatment.” These shocking claims, to which the MBPD had not responded to at the time of writing, could completely redefine Masvidal’s legal proceedings. Masvidal is due to next appear in court in May.

Drake Reacts To Jorge Masvidal’s Retirement

Drake praised Jorge Masvidal as a “street legend” and a “UFC goat” in an Instagram Story post on Sunday night. Masvidal announced his retirement after losing to Gilbert Burns in the co-main event of UFC 287. The loss came by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, and 29-28) and was Masvidal’s fourth consecutive defeat. “Hats off to a great man,” Drake added in the post.

“I love everybody here,” Masvidal said after the fight over the weekend. “This is where I started my career. It’s been a long 20 years, 50-some fights. Sometimes your favorite basketball player don’t have that 3-pointer no more. Your favorite quarterback loses that rifle. I don’t feel the same when I get in here no more. It’s been 20 long years.”

Masvidal retires at 38 years old having posted a 35-win and 17-loss career record. “I love this fucking sport,” Masvidal said in his postfight interview Saturday night. “I’m a multi-millionaire. I didn’t start with nothing. I can say I’m good for life now.”

UFC president Dana White also said that he understands Masvidal’s decision. “Listen, as soon as you think about retiring, you should in this business,” White said. “He’s made a lot of money. He made a lot of money tonight. He’s got things outside the octagon going on too, like Conor [McGregor] does and some of these other guys, and I think he’s proved everything he needed to prove to himself. He changed his family’s life, and why not?”

Outside of the octagon, Masvidal has been dealing with legal trouble as of late. Colby Covington accused the veteran fighter of sucker-punching him outside a South Beach steakhouse, last year. Masvidal was subsequently arrested for the incident. He pleaded not guilty but is still awaiting further court appearances. Check out Drake’s message for the now-retired fighter below.
