Jorge Masvidal And Nate Diaz Scrap MMA Rematch, Will Box Instead

Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz with have a boxing match in June as opposed to an MMA rematch. The fight, dubbed “Last Man Standing” will occur on June 1 and be preceded by a multi-city promotional tour. While Masvidal will be coming out of retirement for the fight, the UFC still had to approve it as he is still under contract with them.

“Nate’s a dead man walking. I can’t wait to prove that last time was no fluke. He got saved by the referee. Now we are boxing, which he says is his forte, but he’s got no shot at beating me. I’m not going to give him an inch in that ring to even breathe. If he thought our MMA match was bad, this is going to be much worse. I’m going to drown him. I want to put away any talk that him and I are the same, or that the referee saved the day. All of that talk ends June 1. Violence and throwing hands are in both of our bloods but as I proved before, I’m a far superior athlete and I’m a meaner fighter. When June 1 comes I’ll put all unanswered questions to rest, live for the world to see,” Masvidal said in a statement.

Jorge Masvidal Claims Police Were Biased Against Him

Masvidal’s retirement was also marked by an ongoing beef with Covington. Masvidal allegedly attacked Covington outside a Miami Beach restaurant 17 days after he lost to Covington at UFC 272. Footage of the incident quickly emerged online and Masvidal was charged with two felonies. Furthermore, Covington has claimed Masvidal broke his tooth and gave him brain damage.

However, according to court documents from last April, Masvidal claimed that the Miami Beach Police Department showed “favoritism” towards Covington. According to Masvidal, Covington did not call 911 but a Miami Beach sergeant he trained with. Additionally, Masvidal claimed that when said sergeant arrived, he called in a “Code 3”. Code 3 is a police response code for an incident that “is defined as an emergency response determined by factors such as immediate danger to officer or public safety.” He also alleges that the unnamed sergeant made calls to individual officers to request their presence. Furthermore, Masvidal claims that in a podcast appearance prior to the incident, Covington said that he “rolls with the Miami Beach Police Department.”

Francis Ngannou Wants To Prioritize Tyson Fury Rematch

Francis Ngannou has confirmed that he will not appeal the result of his fight against Tyson Fury and will instead push for a rematch as soon as possible. “The rematch is what I want next the most. As for right now I feel like there is a lot of options for me, but I want to choose wisely, and I would go for the rematch first,” Ngannou told TMZ. Ngannou defied the odds to earn a split decision loss to Fury in their fight last weekend. Even Fury gave the former MMA fighter props. “He’s given me probably one of my toughest fights in the last 10 years. He’s a good boxer, He’s a lot better than I thought he’d be and he gave me a good fight,” Fury said after the bout.

Despite Fury having just set a date next February for his historic unification bout against Oleksandr Uysk, Ngannou wants his rematch first. “My best scenario in boxing is to wait for Fury. If Usyk can step out and let me fight Fury, I’ll fight Fury, then I’ll let them do whatever they do. I’ll go back, maybe do some MMA fight and come back with some people in boxing,” Ngannou explained.

Ngannou Not Appealing Fight Result

Furthermore, Ngannou shot down any notion that he would be appealing the fight result. “Who am I gonna appeal to? [The British Boxing Commission]? I have no chance. I think that’s just another way of humiliation,” Ngannou argued. Instead, as mentioned, he wants to rectify the loss with a rematch win. However, Fury is yet to comment on Ngannou’s challenge.

One boxer who is filing an appeal, however, is Dillon Danis. Last month, the MMA fighter officially appealed the result of his boxing match against Logan Paul. It’s unclear exactly what Danis is appealing, given he clearly met the threshold for a disqualification given his attempted illegal grab on Paul in the dying seconds of the fight. Furthermore, given how thoroughly Paul was beating Danis at the time of the DQ, it’s likely that the fight would be ruled a unanimous decision win for Paul. Additionally, Paul responded to the announcement, calling it “embarrassing and desperate”.

Nate Diaz Demands Jake Paul Rematch

Nate Diaz has openly challenged Jake Paul to a rematch after Paul announced his intention to fight in December. “Rematch December. You ain’t got nobody to fight. So I’ll beat your ass dec 15th,” Diaz wrote on Instagram alongside the mockup of a promotional flyer for the fight. However, reaction to the rematch was tepid outside of some of Diaz’s MMA colleagues. Paul himself responded to the challenge, posting a parody of Diaz’s flyer with Derek, the viral spokesperson for sportsbook Betr, taking Paul’s place.

While Paul has confirmed that he is fighting on December 15, his opponent remains a mystery. Most believe that it’s likely going to be a rematch against Tommy Fury, who Paul lost to earlier this year. This line of thinking is supported by the fact that Paul said the fight would be the next step on his journey to becoming a world boxing champion. However, Fury is literally less than a week removed from his last fight and would be entering a December 15 bout on two months’ training. Paul is expected to reveal his opponent in the coming weeks.

Paul Trades Words With Deji At Prime Card

Meanwhile, Paul did recently beef with another of his former opponents. Paul squared off with Deji backstage at the DAZN Prime Card event last weekend. “I would destroy you. If we fought again, I would absolutely beat you,” Deji shot at Paul in a joint interview. “This is why I didn’t come tonight. I didn’t want to deal with all these people who got famous off of me,” Paul shot back. Paul beat Deji in an amateur fight way back in 2018. However, Paul is expected to challenge KSI, Deji’s brother. The two have been hinting at it for some time now. KSI comes off an uninspiring majority decision loss to Tommy Fury.

Prior to the KSI-Fury fight, Paul had weighed in on KSI as an opponent and his expectations for the bout. “Well, I think it’s a win-win for [KSI]. He gets the money. Even if he loses, then it’s like ‘Okay, whatever. Me and Jake both lost to Tommy. Then, we can still fight.’ But if he were to just fight me and I win, then it’s like he’s just, like, done. You know, let’s just say that there’s this chance that he clips Tommy with his wild style and catches him. It’s boxing! I think Tommy TKOs him in the fourth round,” Jake said of the fight. Of course, Fury never knocked down KSI and took a tight decision win instead.

Dillon Danis Challenges Logan Paul To MMA Fight

Dillon Danis has broken his silence following his disqualification loss to Logan Paul. “A Jiu Jitsu guy with no boxing camp or coach made his debut, never wobbled, never dropped, had no standing 8 count, and rocked you multiple times. If I were Nina, I’d call off the wedding. You achieved nothing in your own sport, MMA next,” Danis wrote on social media Saturday morning. It was a response to post from Paul himself. “Honestly nothing to be proud about. that dude sucks, a real cunt. I’m gonna go back to living my life but felt good to beat his ass for 6 rounds and let him embarrass himself. Drink prime,” Paul wrote on social media an hour or so after the fight.

Furthermore, Paul, who chose to speak with the media after the fight, had nothing positive to say about Danis. “Dillon Danis truly is a coward. I forgave Dillon before this fight started. It was the only way to attack this fight without emotion. But he was calling himself a real fighter? Conor McGregor, you see that?” Paul said. Furthermore, he quickly turned his attention back to his current day job – fighting in the WWE. “This is a hobby for me. My true passion, I’m a WWE superstar. I’m an American boy, and I want that U.S. title. Rey Mysterio, I already beat you once and I’m coming for that U.S. championship.”

Danis Claims DAZN Scrapped His Ring Entry At The Last Minute

Elsewhere, Danis also made a claim just before the fight that raised many questions amongst fans. Danis claimed that his original ring entrance for the fight had been pulled by promoter and broadcast DAZN. In a post on X, Danis said that the entrance had been pulled due to “fear of a lawsuit” and called the move “complete bullshit”. However, Danis did not offer any additional details about the scrapped entrance.

Despite this, knowing Danis, there are a few things that could be likely guessed about it. It likely contained memes or images relating to Nina Agdal, especially because Agdal was in attendance for the fight. If this is the case, DAZN was likely wary about being added to Agdal’s defamation suit. However, the entrance could have also contained references to Logan’s father being a pedophile or Logan himself being a steroid user, both which would have landed the company a defamation suit. It remains to be seen if Danis will share details about the scrapped entrance at a later time.

Jim Jones Wants Dipset To Get A “Verzuz” Rematch With The Lox

Jim Jones says that he wants Dipset to get a rematch with The Lox on Verzuz. The iconic New York rapper discussed The Diplomats’ appearance on the show during a recent interview with AllHipHop TV. The two sides originally faced off at the Hulu Theater in August 2021 with The Lox taking home the victory. This time around, Jones wants the event to be held in Madison Square Garden’s full 20,000-capacity venue.

“I don’t think that energy will ever be duplicated outside of New York unless we go for the rematch, you heard?” the Harlem rapper said. “The way I’m thinking about it is last time, there was a lot going on. The venue was way too small. There were people on my back. There were people on people’s shoulders in there.”

Later, Jim Jones described Dipset as Rocky and The Lox as Apollo Creed. He even suggested the two sides score the battle like a boxing match. “I think we need proper respect of doing it in the Garden, the big Garden, with proper security, set up right so everybody have breathing room. Not using it as no excuse, but we need a rematch for the city. I’m puttin’ it out there. I’m puttin’ it out there like Rocky after he lost to Apollo Creed — And we gonna be ready like hot spaghetti,” Jones said. “Let’s score it like a boxing match, let’s get the judges, let’s make it live. Let the people vote live. Let’s do it right. Let’s really go for it.”

Verzuz co-creator Swizz Beatz previously teased a rematch between the two sides on the battle’s one-year anniversary in August. “Music history was made on this day,” he wrote on Instagram at the time. “Who want pt 2.” Over five million people reportedly tuned in for the original battle. Verzuz is set to return with Season 3 later this year.

Jake Paul Vs. Tommy Fury Rematch Gets Huge Update

Jake Paul and Tommy Fury had a very interesting rivalry up until last weekend. As many of you already know, Paul had tried to fight Fury on numerous occasions. However, various factors made it impossible for the fight to actually take place. Firstly, Fury ducked the first fight due to a rib injury. Subsequently, various issues in terms of immigration made it so that Fury could not enter the United States. Finally, these two had their fight last weekend, and in the end, Tommy came out victorious.

Overall, this was a very close fight that saw Fury win by a split decision. One judge had Paul winning the fight, while Fury had the other two. Ultimately, this was all that he needed in order to get win. It was a huge victory for Fury, who needed to prove himself against Jake. There was this sense that Fury could not be taken seriously, but now that he has finally gotten past Paul, he can look ahead to bigger and better things. However, it just so happens that he may want to go up against Jake again, after all.

Mike Coppinger of ESPN is now reporting that Jake Paul and Tommy Fury are closing in on an agreement for a rematch. As it turns out, this rematch would take place in the month of July. This would give both fighters about four months’ worth of preparation. Overall, this would be a huge redemption opportunity for Paul. However, this could be a risk for Fury who could set back his entire career with a loss to Jake. The storylines truly right themselves at this point.

For many boxing fans, these fights are simply not very interesting. Although, for others, this is a good gateway to get into boxing. As long as Paul can continue to attract big pay-per-view numbers, these fights are going to keep happening, regardless of Jake’s record. Let us know what you think of a potential rematch, in the comments below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for more news and updates from the sports world.
