Jimmy Kimmel & Trump Beef Timeline

The feud between Donald Trump and late-night talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel has been going on for almost nine years now. The Kimmel-Trump beef has been slow-cooking for years and has caught on fire once or twice, too. So far this year, the two have fired a couple of shots back and forth in their long-standing volley. Kimmel hosted the Oscars on March 10 and took the opportunity to call out Trump in his monologue. Trump has stewed over the comments for some time, attacking Kimmel on multiple occasions. Over a month later, Kimmel worked some fiery Trump “hush money” trial jabs into his April 16 talk-show monologue. These, of course, only continue to rub Trump the wrong way. Let’s take a look at key points along the Kimmel-Trump feud timeline now.

Trump Cancels Jimmy Kimmel Live Appearance In October 2015 at Last Minute

Every big beef has its humble beginnings. The Kimmel-Trump beef began quietly enough in late October of 2015. Trump was slated for an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live amid a whirlwind of other political appearances on the show. However, he canceled at the last minute, citing an important political event that popped up. Kimmel, in a segment on the Howard Stern Show, thrust a little jab at Trump when he reported that he didn’t “know what happened…we’re delighted, needless to say.”

Kimmel continued mysteriously, claiming that he would not be “interviewing [Trump]. It will be in studio, it’ll be live, and it’ll all make perfect sense when you see it.” During his monologue on the show Trump canceled, Kimme shot some more little pokes at the real estate mogul: “We’re gonna give everyone in the audience a basketball dipped in cologne so you can fully experience what it would have been like had Donald Trump been here.”

Kimmel & Trump In December 2015: Winners Aren’t Losers

The world found out what Kimmel had in store when Trump finally appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live two months later. The presidential nominee appeared more subdued than usual as he sat in the chair beside Kimmel’s desk. After some playful banter back and forth, Kimmel revealed a mock children’s book he “ghostwrote” titled Winners Aren’t Losers. The talk-show host continued on, reading from a portion of the Dr. Seuss-like book: “Winners aren’t losers, they’re winners – like me! A loser’s a loser, which one will you be?”

Obviously, the book was light-hearted mockery about Trump, though one section may have pushed things a bit further than Trump was comfortable with. “Oh, the places you’ll go on your yacht! On your plane! With your suits from Milan! And your wives from Ukraine!” Though Trump remained good-natured, this new mockery, added to Kimmel’s monologue when Trump canceled his original appearance, certainly set the stage for future altercations.

The Nationwide Text Alert Fiasco Of 2018

After Winners Aren’t Losers, a couple of quiet years passed between the pair, save a heartfelt series of pleas from Kimmel in 2017 regarding Trump’s overhauling of Obamacare. In 2018, Kimmel would reignite the beef after Trump tested a nationwide text alert system on October 3. The system was meant to be used in the event of terrorist attacks or natural disasters, though Kimmel turned it into a mock Hollywood film trailer.

The trailer plays off of Trump’s habit of constantly tweeting his thoughts to the public[ and what this could mean for a national alert system. Part of this was likely inspired by Trump’s viral “covfefe” tweet incident of May 2017. In the trailer, a family of three is driving along when they begin to receive alerts. At first, the father believes it is a tweet from Trump but realizes in horror that it’s a text. Messages reading “No collusion!” and “Witch hunt!” blare through their phone screens. The camera pans to families running from cars in horror and a police officer shooting his cell phone.

Mother’s Day 2020: The Empty Box Twitter Battle

On Mother’s Day in 2020, the Kimmel-Trump beef boiled over. For some of the day, Jimmy Kimmel found himself embroiled in a tweet battle with the former president. It all began when Kimmel posted a video of Mike Pence carrying personal protective equipment to a senior citizen facility. At a certain point in the video, Pence finds empty boxes in a van and asks if he can carry them for the cameras—a joke Kimmel misunderstood because he’d only seen a portion of the video. When this was pointed out to the talk-show host, he apologized and took the video down. However, this was just the start of an online tussle that would carry on throughout the day.

Kimmel thought the issue was settled once he acknowledged his mistake and removed the video. But not long after, he started receiving updates that the president was tweeting about him. It wasn’t just one or two tweets, but a rambling rant by Trump and friends on Kimmel’s “doctored” video. Trump also made a slew of strange comments about alleged and unspecified crimes Barack Obama committed. Amid the flurry of tweets, Trump insulted Kimmel, writing, “More fake news, this time from Jimmy Kimmel’s last place show.” Kimmel sent one tweet back to the president, simply telling him to go make his wife brunch. “This is what the White House is working on and thinking about right now,” Kimmel concluded in an at-home quarantine monologue reviewing the incident.

Rolling Stone Reports That Trump Officials Complained to Disney About Kimmel

In February 2023, Rolling Stone published an article revealing just how much Kimmel’s continuous joking had gotten to Trump during his presidency. Apparently, members of Trump’s administration had contacted Disney, ABC’s parent company, regarding Kimmel’s ongoing jokes. Trump seemed to think that Disney and ABC would act off these calls to do something to “reign in” Kimmel. The Trump officials dealing with the calls to Disney reported that Trump felt Kimmel was being dishonest and that this kind of commentary was something Trump would’ve sued over before he was in public office. The officials noted they felt obliged to make the calls because Trump was so focused on Kimmel’s commentaries. They realized that nothing would likely change based on their intervention.

Kimmel-Trump Feud Explodes at the 2024 Oscars

Although the beef between DJT and Jimmy has been simmering for years, no one expected it to completely explode at the 2024 Oscars on March 10. Trump lambasted Kimmel repeatedly on his platform Truth Social during one of the talk show host’s on-stage monologues. The former president wrote things such as, “Has there EVER been a WORSE HOST than Jimmy Kimmel at The Oscars,” and, “His opening was that of a less than average person trying too hard to be something which he is not, and never can be.” Kimmel took the potshots in stride, responding to them in real-time. He smiled as he responded, “Thank you—I’m surprised you’re still watching. Isn’t it past your jail time?” The audience laughed in response to Kimmel’s reference to the ongoing Trump “hush money” trial.

Kimmel Reveals His Plans to Keep Driving Trump Nuts

It seems that Trump has continued to brew over Kimmel’s jabs during the Oscars. He said in a Fox News interview about a week later that Kimmel was both a “lousy host” and “not a talented guy.” He also told the interviewers that “ratings are terrible” for Jimmy Kimmel Live. Kimmel has no plans of slowing down amid Trump’s hush money trial, either. Kimmel joked during an interview on the Seth Meyers’s show that he had a “plan” to drive Trump crazy for years to come. He says that if Trump is convicted, he will “commit a crime in the tri-state area with the goal of getting incarcerated along with him, so I can drive him insane from the inside, too.”

Jack Antonoff Is Still Talking About Kanye West Wearing Diapers, But Now He’s Doing It On ‘Kimmel’

To be clear: As far as we can gather from publicly available information, Kanye West does not wear diapers. That hasn’t stopped Jack Antonoff from jokingly making that assertion about Ye, though. He did so in a Los Angeles Times interview from February, and he did so again yesterday (April 16) on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

The discourse started when Kimmel rattled off a list of some of Antonoff’s collaborators, all of whom were women. He jokingly asked what Antonoff has against men, and then more seriously wondered if there’s something that makes him more inclined to work with female artists over male ones.

Antonoff attested that he works with a lot of men, too. He then went on to try to explain his perspective to Kimmel, and after a couple of unsuccessful attempts at getting Kimmel to understand, he eventually said:

“I think men… There’s two people that I think are are almost too over-sensitive to even function, and it’s men and members of the music industry. The amount of sensitivity… it’s sort of like watching Kanye. By the way — and Jimmy, you might like this because I know that you have your own relationship with the right and how you interact with them, and you’re much closer to how I see these things than other people. I don’t like going to people and, ‘You do this, you do this, blah blah blah,’ because that’s what they want, you know, this sort of type of over-sensitive man. So I just do more of this, like… like if I saw Kanye, I would run up to him and be like, ‘The diaper… your diaper is so full, we have to change your diaper. Your diaper needs to be changed, there’s a huge problem.’”

He then compared that mindset to Kimmel’s famously antagonistic approach to Donald Trump and his supporters, assessing that, like Kimmel, he prefers to “up the trolling” instead of being “overly offended.”

Antonoff’s band Bleachers also performed “Tiny Moves” on the show, by the way, so check that out below.

Will Eminem Release A New Album In 2024?

Eminem fans might have some tunes to look forward to this year. Some of his friends, including Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and 50 Cent, stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! in honor of Dre getting a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

While that was the shining topic on the show, Dr. Dre also wound up talking about Eminem and had some exciting news to share.

Will Eminem Release A New Album In 2024?

“Let me tell you something, let me explain something to you right now: Eminem is working on his own album which is coming out this year,” Dre said.

Although it might seem that Dr. Dre let the news about Eminem slip, he pointed out that he did get permission from the rapper. It’s also already been four years since the Detroit musician last released a record, with 2020’s Music To Be Murdered By.

“And I actually talked to him and he told me it was okay for me to make that announcement right here on this show,” Dr. Dre added. “So he has an album coming out, I’ve got songs on it and it’s fire. I’m actually gonna hear the entire album for the first time for tomorrow. And he holds his music close to his chest so I haven’t heard everything. I haven’t even heard everything complete that I’ve done, but I’m gonna hear it, and he’s putting out an album this year.”

Check out the full interview, including Dr. Dre discussing Eminem’s new album in the works around the 25:20 minute mark, above.

Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, And 50 Cent Collaborate… To Mock Jimmy Kimmel’s Genitals In A Comedy Sketch

Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and 50 Cent are four of the best to ever do it when it comes to hip-hop. Now, the four have come together on one project… that project being a Jimmy Kimmel Live! sketch.

The skit — which aired last night, March 19) is about a fictional TV show called Dre’s Anatomy, and anatomy is the issue here. The video starts with Kimmel being rushed into a hospital room, where Dr. Dre (playing an actual medical doctor, of course) lifts the blanket covering the host’s waist and is shocked by what he finds (or rather, doesn’t find).

Dre says, “What the f*ck is this? This man has no penis.”

Kimmel is confused by that, but Dre calls on “Dr. Broadus” (Snoop) for a second opinion. Even with help from a magnifying glass, Snoop has trouble locating the penis. 50 Cent then comes in with a telescope, focused squarely on Kimmel’s crotch, and still nothing. They eventually put Kimmel under anesthesia (which sure looks like weed smoke) before the beeping machines start producing the beat to “Still D.R.E.,” which gets a party started.

After the Dre’s Anatomy promo ends, it segues into a quick teaser for another fictional medical show, EM. Eminem makes a cameo, holding a syringe and deadpanning to the camera, “You only get one shot.” 50 enters and interjects, “One shot? I got shot nine times.” Eminem replies, “That’s a weird flex, but… OK.”

Check out the skit above. The group (minus Eminem) also sat down for a lengthy interview with Kimmel, so check that out below.

Lionel Richie Expressed Regret Over Not Including Madonna On ‘We Are The World,’ But Still Stands By Cyndi Lauper’s Selection

Each year, music’s biggest names come together to compete for high recognition at the Grammy Awards. But occasionally, entertainers can put aside their competitive spirits for the right cause. In January 1985, that moment came when Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Quincy Jones, and Michael Omartian set out to record “What Are The Word.”

The track pulled in several chart-topping musicians to lend their voices for charity. On February 16, during his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Richie revealed that even though the moment was magical, he did have a few regrets that night, including not including Madonna in the fold. Despite Madonna’s superstar success at the time, the team opted for Cyndi Lauper instead.

Richie went on to explain the relation behind the decision. “We had only a half a line to sing,” he said. “So, we had to have voices that people knew right away. You had to have an identifiable voice… Cyndi had that.”

In the new Netflix documentary The Greatest Night In Pop, viewers can relive the moment as footage from the star-studded recording session outlines the meticulous work that went into recording the song.

Snoop Dogg Hopped In An ‘Oppenheimer’ Cast Photo For Some Reason, A Reason He Has Now Explained

Snoop Dogg explained how his viral photo with the cast of Oppenheimer happened, during his recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. For those who haven’t seen it, the rapper went to an event and happened to pop up in the background.

Considering it was all the film’s actors except for Matt Damon, Snoop’s photo bomb was a hilarious addition. It’s such a random pop-up that it very well could have been Photoshopped. But no, it’s real.

“How did this happen?” Kimmel asked him. “Were you in Oppenheimer and I didn’t notice?”

“No, I wasn’t in the movie,” Snoop answered. “I happened to be at that party that night… I’m a fan of the majority of the cast on there, the director, the actors, and they asked me to be in the picture. They were like, ‘We can’t take a picture unless Snoop Dogg is in it.’ I’m like, ‘Alright.’”

Snoop went on to share how he felt about the Christopher Nolan flick, which became a summer blockbuster during the Barbenheimer craze. (For the record, he also went to see Barbie in theaters.)

“I loved it,” he said of Oppenheimer. “It was a long movie, but I loved it.” Snoop received screeners to view it at home but pointed out that when it comes to movies, he “can’t watch it in pieces,” and opted to run through the 3-plus-hour movie in full.

“I gotta watch it all,” he added. “I wanna respect the director, the actors, the whole storyline, and let it get to where it need to get to.”

The best musical performances from the past week of late-night TV include sets from Offset, Davido, The National, and more. Uproxx has the rundown below so you can catch up or relive your favorites. Here are the best live music performances on TV from the past week.

Offset & Don Toliver:

Fresh from the release of his second solo album, Set It Off, Offset stopped by 30 Rock to deliver a grooving performance of his song “Worth It” alongside Don Toliver on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. With the stage reflecting a summery beach setting in contrast to the actual weather outside, the set was much more appropriate for the upbeat single, which samples Busta Rhymes’ “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See.”

Davido:

Speaking of summery songs, there is perhaps no genre as full of them as Afrobeats. One of that genre’s biggest stars, Davido, also hit the Tonight Show stage for an exuberant performance, playing a medley of his songs “Feel” and “Unavailable,” flanked by a pair of joyous dancers and backed by a lustrous, brassy band.

The National:

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert is known for bringing in not just high-profile talent, but also some of the headiest. The National offered a prime example of this tendency with a moody performance of their song “Space Invader” from Laugh Track.

Alec Benjamin:

Rising star Alec Benjamin dropped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! for a soulful performance of “Different Kind Of Beautiful.” The introspective track was complemented by setting the stage as a cozy bedroom, complete with a record player, reading lamp, and even a laptop open to Pro Tools.

Diddy Remembers What Helped Him Become A Billionaire: “I Think About It Every Day”

Diddy is in rare air in the hip-hop industry. He is one of just a handful of rappers to achieve reaching billionaire status. The rapper and music mogul accomplished this feat back in late October of 2022. This really cements him as one of the greatest visionaries in the genre. Diddy was able to do this through tons of different business avenues. Those include his Bad Boys record label, his joint efforts in the alcohol business, his alkaline water line, and plenty of others. He touched on this in a recent Jimmy Kimmel Live! interview.

In addition to his wealth, the rapper talked about a hilarious but serious experience with a crazy psychedelic. He also recalled some crazy things he did as a kid to make any sort of money he could. “Look you have to understand me, I’m self-made. I come from just putting two quarters together, $2 together, I was a paperboy when I was 12.” He continues, “Wasn’t even allowed to be a paperboy, I was running a paperboy scam, you know what I’m saying, so I was delivering papers for paperboys and I was splitting the money with them.”

Diddy Recalls The Grind During His Childhood

On top of that, Diddy was also cleaning bathrooms in New York during the heatwaves, as well as painting homes. All of this he says was very fulfilling. “Work hard, you get what you deserve, and I’m blessed to have had people support me.” Because of this, he always thinks about how far he has come. “I think about it every day.” He should and it cool to see him to continue to win every day.

What are your initial thoughts on Diddy always thinking about his billionaire status even a year later? Is he the biggest musical icon of all time? Snoop Dogg Hilariously Revealed That He Has Weed Connects In Most Countries, Thanks To His Global Friends

Snoop Dogg made a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where he had an interesting reveal about his weed habits. The conversation started after Kimmel asked Snoop about how he helped comedian Mike Epps find weed in Iceland.

This led to the rapper pointing out that he has a ton of connections in nearly every country.

“Well, last time I checked I was the plug to your plug,” Snoop said. “I’m the connect. It’s good to have friends that have friends that are international and global and able to get you medicated and dedicated no matter where you at.”

Kimmel then directly asked if Snoop Dogg knew people to get weed from in countries like Ireland, Mexico, and many more. He answered yes to all… Except for one. The only place that he doesn’t have access to is (possibly) North Korea, for obvious reasons.

“How many days were you in North Korea?” Kimmel asked.

“I was over there for about maybe seven or eight days,” Snoop responded. “I did a song with an artist named Psy… We went over there and did a few things.” However, upon Kimmel’s correction, Snoop soon realized they were likely in South Korea.

“Ain’t they the same?” he asked, as both of them laughed.

His spot on the talk show was tied to the release of his new cookbook, which is out on November 14.

Check out the hilarious moment from Snoop Dogg above.
