Each year, music’s biggest names come together to compete for high recognition at the Grammy Awards. But occasionally, entertainers can put aside their competitive spirits for the right cause. In January 1985, that moment came when Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Quincy Jones, and Michael Omartian set out to record “What Are The Word.”
The track pulled in several chart-topping musicians to lend their voices for charity. On February 16, during his appearance on JimmyKimmel Live, Richie revealed that even though the moment was magical, he did have a few regrets that night, including not including Madonna in the fold. Despite Madonna’s superstar success at the time, the team opted for Cyndi Lauper instead.
Richie went on to explain the relation behind the decision. “We had only a half a line to sing,” he said. “So, we had to have voices that people knew right away. You had to have an identifiable voice… Cyndi had that.”

Lionel Richie is still living his best life. Fresh off his visit to the United Kingdom to perform for the new King, Richie detailed what keeps him going and looking young.
In a conversation with The Daily Mail, Lionel Richie stated he is not a fan of plastic surgery. Instead, his recipe is “water, sleep, and sweat” while attempting to avoid red meat.
“I know it’s real boring. [Sex] will work also and it’s good for your heart,” Richie said.

“[Plastic surgery] locks you in for that year [while you recover] – and after that you can’t go naturally, you’re staying right there… You try and go back to reset, and you can’t,” said the “All Night Long” singer.
The Mainstream Sellout performer showed up to the AMAs in a spiked jumpsuit that many people online expressed concerns about. He even acknowledged it while accepting the Favorite Rock Artist award, saying it was “uncomfortable to pee in.” However, he’s shared more about that chaotic look during his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
“Everyone I loved couldn’t show me any of their love,” he deadpanned. Kimmel said, “This is like the things they use to keep pigeons off the fence,” and MGK agreed.

He inspected it and touched it. We were so close I was scared to clap for Wayne Brady, so every time he made a joke I just looked like I was unentertained, but I didn’t want to impale Lionel Richie.”
