Jhene Aiko Draws Backlash Online For Seemingly Shading Ariana Grande’s New Album

Jhene Aiko is catching some heat, but also some defense, online due to one of her most recent IG Stories. Moreover, she reposted the following message: “Careful! We quickly get used to most things and easily forget how amazing they are,” and soundtracked it with her song, “Eternal Sunshine.” However, some fans called the singer out because she seemed to shade Ariana Grande’s new album, which is also called eternal sunshine and that came out that same day she posted the message. As such, some thought that this was no coincidence and a deliberate attempt to undermine her current partner Big Sean’s ex-girlfriend.

Regardless, some fans didn’t really see this as a big deal for a couple of different reasons. First, there are the people that have their own issues with Ariana Grande and thus justify any attempt, assumption, or claim that paints her in a more negative light. Then, some fans think that Jhene Aiko could’ve just been a victim of coincidence here, as it’s not like “eternal sunshine” is a trademarked phrase. Also, she’s not really the type of artist to engage in that stuff too much, or at least it’s not a part of how she carries herself online. Perhaps more hardcore fans can confirm or deny this in the comments.

Jhene Aiko Seems To Shade Ariana Grande On IG, Fans React

Meanwhile, there are some other and more pressing circumstances that Jhene Aiko’s probably worried about, which is another reason as to why this is probably innocuous. For example, she was reportedly hit with a lawsuit over a 2022 car crash for negligence. While this probably won’t be a big legal case or anything like that, it’s definitely something that takes precedence over attempting to start more drama online. For that reason, we wouldn’t be too pressed about a simple IG Story. Still, check out more reactions to it below.

Regardless, what do you think about this whole debacle and the parties involved? Do you agree with criticism of the pop singer or did the R&B star go a little bit too far with these supposed allusions? However you may feel, drop your thoughts down in the comments section below. Jhené Aiko Shared Her Unreleased ‘Surrender’ And ‘Love’ Videos For The Fourth Anniversary Of ‘Chilombo’

Jhené Aiko moves at her own pace. In today’s frantic climate of near-constant content churn, the LA singer keeps to herself, quietly creating until she feels ready to release her latest work to the world. She’s like a volcano in that way, patiently bubbling under the surface until she’s ready to erupt with a new creative vision.

Maybe that’s why she presents herself as a fiery volcano goddess in the video for “Surrender,” which she shared this week in honor of the fourth anniversary of her most recent album, Chilombo. On Instagram, she revealed she’d be sharing the unreleased videos from the album, including clips for “Define Me (interlude),” “Love,” and of course, “Surrender.” All three videos were shot by frequent collaborator Glassface and find Jhené soaking up nature, whether that’s on the volcanic island from the “Surrender” video or taking in the savannah of Africa in “Love.” You can check out the “Surrender” video above and the “Love” and “Define Me” videos below.

In accordance with Aiko’s laid-back release schedule, she dropped her most recent songs early this year. “Sun/Son” was a dedication to her and Big Sean’s son Noah, and followed “Calm & Patient,” which came out nearly a year before. She may be feeling calm and patient, but her fans have been neither lately, as demands for a joint release with Sean as Twenty88 have become more and more persistent on social media with her increased activity. They said the album is “coming along,” but that was two years ago, so their insistence is understandable.

Sun/Son” singer Jhené Aiko has made promoting peace, caring, and positivity a part of her artistic ethos. Unfortunately, in the court of law, one person is attempting to paint Jhené in a different light.

According to The Blast, Jhené Aiko is being sued for her alleged involvement in a 2022 car accident. In the filing obtained by the outlet on Friday, February 16, plaintiff Genelle Ligot accused Aiko of being reckless behind the wheel. Ligot suggested that Aiko’s negligence led to their July 2022 crash in Encino, California.

While at a traffic light, Ligot claims that Aiko struck her vehicle from behind, which reportedly resulted in bodily injury and, consequently, loss of wages. “Due to the negligent actions of [Aiko] while operating the motor vehicle, [Ligot] was injured in health, strength, and activity,” reads the legal documents.

Outside of the wage loss, Ligot listed that she also suffered: ‘Loss of use of property and loss of earning capacity.” Although Ligot’s financial demand amount was not included in the paperwork, she clarified that she is seeking compensation for hospital and medical expenses, general damage, property damage, and the loss of wages.

Ligot has requested a jury should the case go to trial.

Jhené Aiko has not issued a statement regarding the incident.

Jhene Aiko Faces Lawsuit Over Alleged Car Accident in Encino

Recording artist Jhene Aiko finds herself entangled in legal proceedings as she faces a lawsuit filed by a motorist who claims the singer rear-ended them at a traffic light in Encino, California. The lawsuit, brought forward by Genelle Ligot, alleges negligence on Aiko’s part for the incident that occurred in July 2022.

According to reports from The Blast, legal documents reveal the details of Ligot’s claims against Aiko. Ligot asserts that while she was stopped at a traffic light at the corner of Ventura Boulevard and Hayvenhurst Avenue in Encino, Aiko’s vehicle collided with hers from behind. The lawsuit states that Ligot suffered injuries to her health, strength, and activity as a result of the accident.

Ligot’s legal filing outlines a range of damages she claims to have incurred due to the accident, including wage loss, loss of property use, hospital and medical expenses, general damage, property damage, and loss of earning capacity. Seeking compensation for these damages, Ligot is pursuing legal action against Aiko and is demanding a jury trial to address the matter.

The lawsuit underscores Ligot’s contention that Aiko’s alleged negligence while operating her motor vehicle led to the injuries sustained during the collision. By initiating legal proceedings, Ligot aims to hold Aiko accountable for the consequences of the accident and seeks restitution for the damages incurred.

As the legal process unfolds, both parties will navigate the complexities of the case, with Ligot pursuing justice for the injuries she claims to have suffered, and Aiko facing the legal repercussions of the alleged car accident.

Kali Uchis & Jhene Aiko Update Our “R&B Season” Playlist With Grace: Stream

Our R&B Season playlist is back with another update, rounding up some of the best new music that releases this week. Moreover, when it comes to more soulful releases, there was one big album that we can’t go any longer without mentioning: Kali Uchis’ new album ORQUÍDEAS. Two specific tracks that go great together off this gorgeous project actually dropped as a joint music video the day before the record dropped: “Tu Corazón Es Mío / Diosa.” What’s more is that the Colombian-Virginian artist used this visual to officially announce that she and Don Toliver are expecting a child together. Congratulations to the happy couple!

Elsewhere on our R&B Season update, we also shouted out the newest offering from Jhené Aiko, “Sun/Son.” It’s a vocally wondrous cut with a lot of layered harmonies, syncopated chants, and comfortingly warm piano and synth keys that will calm you down. Complimenting this all is a sultry and steady drum beat with crisp rimshots that sit comfortably in the back of the mix. However, the name of the game is the Chilombo star’s captivating performance, as she fills in the empty spaces of this song with a lot of passion and with dynamic range.

Meanwhile, another highlight on R&B Season this week comes courtesy of The Book Of Clarence‘s soundtrack, on which the film’s director Jeymes Samuel worked extensively. Furthermore, he and Jorja Smith crafted another impassioned, orchestral, and grand piece with “Champagne,” soulfully bringing a slow funkiness to the collection. Another standouvt drama-tinged anthem is “best thing for me” by Samaria, which brings the tempo even further down. It’s a great mix of a traditional smooth R&B swing with soaring guitars, a high-pitched vocal display with plenty of personality, and whimsical chimes.

Last but not least, Ariana Grande is officially and finally back with her ’80s and dance-inspired single, “yes, and?” After resolving some relationship drama in 2023, we can’t wait to see what the pop darling brings this year. Let us know in the comments what your favorite R&B Season pick was this week– and what else we missed, too. Check out the playlist above and, as always, come back to HNHH for more amazing music releases around the clock.

Jhené Aiko Reminds How Stunning Her Voice Is On “Sun/Son”

Jhené Aiko is an artist who takes time in between each release. It is a double-edged sword because she is ultra-talented and we always want to hear her more often. The 35-year-old soulful balladeer has not dropped a full-length in nearly four years. Her last effort was Chilombo, a project that featured the likes of H.E.R., Ab-Soul, Nas, Ty Dolla $ign, and more.

Even on the single front, Jhené has remained fairly quiet. The last release came in May with “alive & well (gratitude).” Then, about a month and a half before that was “calm & patient.” Hopefully, those two outputs last year are signs of a project coming in 2024. We say that because Jhené is back to start of the year with a bang.

No doubt about it, you charge me up, you chargе me up (Sun son, sun son)

Jhené Aiko Gets Energy From The Center Of The Universe In Her Tender New Song, ‘Sun/Son’

In Jhené Aiko’s tender new ballad, “Sun/Son,” the Los Angeles-born singer expands on the obvious homophonic metaphor, gushing about the new center of her universe. Jhené and her man Big Sean announced the birth of their son, Noah, in November 2022, sharing the first photo of the baby last January. His birth seems to have coincided with a resurgence of Jhené’s creative energy; last March, she shared her first new song in some time, “Calm & Patient,” suggesting that she might be back in the studio with a new project in the works.

Although neither Jhené nor Sean has announced anything official just yet, that increased activity was enough to earn them a shared spot on Uproxx’s Most Anticipated Albums Of 2024 list, as fans still haven’t given up on the possiblity of a follow-up to their 2016 joint album Twenty88. Sean noted as recently as February 2022 that the album is “coming along,” but considering the effort that goes into parenting a newborn, a delay was probably inevitable.

Aiko wasn’t completely off the radar in the time since; she made appearances on songs with John Legend, Tyga, Ab-Soul, and the late August 08 throughout 2022. Meanwhile, “Sun/Son” also has an acoustic piano version, which you can listen to below.

Sexyy Red & Jhene Aiko Are Surprisingly Similar, Music Lovers Point Out

As the age-old saying goes, there’s nothing new under the sun. Try as they might to craft unique images for themselves, many artists are simply a product of those who came before them, with a sprinkle of their own magic mixed in. Even some of those making music today are comparable to each other, whether they’re operating in the same genre or not. According to Twitter users, Sexyy Red and Jhene Aiko are two such performers, largely due to the NSFW nature of their lyrics.

“Seen an [Instagram] Story that said, ‘I’m a Jhene Aiko type of girl, not a Sexyy Red girl,’” one person tweeted this past week. “I almost replied, ‘Diversify your portfolio,’ but I ain’t wanna get blocked 😂😂😂,” they continued. Before long, a debate broke out on the app regarding how similar the two recording artists actually are. “There is very very very very little difference between the music Jhene Aiko has written and Sexyy Red’s content,” someone expressed. As receipts, they added screenshots of lyrics from the former’s “On the Way” featuring Mila J and the latter’s “Pound Town.”

Sexyy Red and Jhene Aiko Are More Similar Than We Thought

The redhead is obviously much more direct in her delivery, but it’s hard to dispute that she and the mother of two are sending out the same messages. “People think Jhene is so wholesome because she’s tiny and has a light, airy voice,” another user speculated.

“That lady made a video with a bunch of Crips and at least one Blood to threaten her ex-husband,” they pointed out. “She also sings ‘P*$$Y Fairy.’ Please be for real.” Despite her gentle demeanour distracting us for years, it seems the internet is remembering the truth of Aiko’s wild past.
