JasonMartin Remixes Laila! & Cash Cobain’s Viral Sexy Drill Hit “Problem”

A lot of West Coast rappers have been making their mark in 2024. But JasonMartin might be having the most underrated impact of all of them. Him and legendary producer DJ Quik put out a gargantuan, but tremendous joint effort in CHUPACABRA. Overall, it was no surprise that they sent it in for GRAMMY consideration for Best Rap Album. It was another unifying moment for the region, as him and Quik corralled numerous California icons. With that being said, it seems that JasonMartin (formerly Problem) is hungry to end this year on an even stronger note. Since the album, he’s made appearances on other talented MC’s records such as ones from Ab-Soul, Terrace Martin, and more. Additionally, he’s been bolstering his solo catalog with “killswitch,” a track he labels as a “CWA.”

This seems to be the energy he’s on right now, as his last several social media posts have this abbreviation attached. What does “CWA” stand for you ask? Well, for him it means “Crip Walking Anthem,” and that’s what “killswitch” was. If you haven’t heard it yet, go check it out here. It’s a West Coast banger for the ages for sure. But JasonMartin isn’t stopping there as he is back again with the ironically titled “PROBLEM” alongside Laila! The track belongs to the latter, and she’s gone viral for it this year. The song was even tweaked by Cash Cobain and he put his version with Laila! on his recent album, PLAY CASH COBAIN. It’s now in the hands of JasonMartin who puts the West Coast on it and it sounds dope overall. Check it out with the link below.

JasonMartin (Problem) Comes Back With A Slick West Coast Bop “Killswitch”

JasonMartin, also known as Problem, has been having one heck of an underrated 2024. The underground West Coast mainstay put out a behemoth of a project in June with CHUPACABRA. 17 songs isn’t anything crazy by today’s standards, but it was massive in terms of collaborations. Almost every track had a feature and making this even more stacked was the fact that it was produced entirely by the iconic DJ Quik. It was dropped during the West Coast triumph that was Kendrick Lamar slaying Drake, and it featured a whole bunch of artists from the region. The Game, Big Hit, Larry June, and Jay Worthy are just few, and it was truly another uniting moment overall.

Sometimes with so many voices on one tape, things can get messy and incoherent. But CHUPACABRA was the complete opposite as it was full of bangers from front to back. Given how successful of a release it turned out to be, it would be a mistake to not capitalize on that momentum. So, JasonMartin is doing just that by coming through with a new single, “killswitch.” It’s actually an EP, but it’s a compilation of different versions of the one track. There’s a “Reversed” rendition which puts the last two verses to the front, which in turn changes the structure production wise too. Then, Jason included “Pt. 1” and “Pt. 2” offerings that divide the four verses up. Finally, there’s the instrumental as well. It’s another bop from Jason and Daz Dillinger has some uncredited contributions on the chorus and adlibs that are well done. Check it out below, you won’t want to turn it off.

Ab-Soul Announces New Mixtape ‘Soul Burger,’ Drops Video for “All That”

TDE artist Ab-Soul has officially announced Soul Burger, his first project since his acclaimed 2022 album Herbert. Along with the announcement, he released a new single and video titled “All That,” featuring Jason Martin (formerly known as Problem) and Thirsty P. Produced by frequent TDE collaborators Rascal and TaeBeast, the track delivers the thoughtful lyricism fans expect, set to a more upbeat, danceable vibe.

The accompanying video features captivating cultural photography interspersed with scenes of Ab-Soul and his collaborators. It visually and sonically represents a shift in tone, as Soul Burger reflects a more energetic and celebratory side of Ab-Soul’s artistry.

The project is a tribute to Ab-Soul’s childhood best friend, Doe Burger, who passed away in 2021. Doe encouraged Ab-Soul to create more lively, show-stopping music for fans. This mixtape is both an homage to Doe’s memory and a reflection of the music he inspired, with Doe narrating throughout, pushing Ab-Soul to persevere through his challenges.

Soul Burger will also include the previously released single, “Squeeze 1St 2.” Fans can expect this new project to reveal another layer of Ab-Soul’s multifaceted talent.

Ab-Soul And JasonMartin Give A Lesson In LA Politics In Their Menacing ‘All That’ Video

It’s been remarked by both visitors and residents of Los Angeles that South LA is like a completely different country. The language, the customs, and the people are miles away — socially and geographically — from the glitz of Hollywood. As such, Ab-Soul and JasonMartin give a quick lesson in LA politics (with some help from Thirsty P) in their new video for “All That,” explaining the ins and outs of the culture. If you get it, you get it, and if you don’t… stay north of Pico.

Produced by frequent TDE collaborators Rascal and TaeBeast, “All That” features a rumbling beat and some head-spinning examples of LA slang and the two rappers’ always excellent wordplay. “All That” is the first single from Ab-Soul’s recently announced mixtape, Soul Burger, which has a November 8 release date. Soul Burger is a tribute to Soul’s childhood best friend, Doe Burger, who died in 2021. While Soul was normally known for introspective concepts and murky, slow-paced beats, Burger pushed Soul to make more upbeat music for fans to dance to at his shows.

Soul Burger will be Ab-Soul’s first full-length project since 2022’s Herbert, which itself was a return from a nearly six-year hiatus. It’s due on 11/8 via TDE.

Ab-Soul Enlists JasonMartin And Thirsty P For Thumping “All That” Single

Ab-Soul is not playing around. The rapper earned some of the best reviews of his career for this 2022 comeback album Herbert, and he’s running it back. Soul Burger is going to drop in November, and the rapper is not playing around when it comes to the promo singles. “Squeeze 1st 2” was a smooth and jazzy showcase for the rapper’s lyrical dense skillset. “All That,” the rapper’s second offering, is a hard hitting switch-up. Ab-Soul taps fellow California emcees JasonMartin and Thirsty P for a slick offering that proves he’s far from a one trick pony.

Ab-Soul has been derided by some fans for being too heady with his music. “All That” proves that Soul Burger will not run into this problem. The instrumental is simple, snappy, and helps to anchor his tricky wordplay and turns of phrase. He flips the title of the song to refer to the classic Nickelodeon show All That and cast members Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell. JasonMartin and Thirsty P do their thing on the back end of the song. It’s fun to hear Ab-Soul branch out and work with different artists outside of the TDE camp. We can’t wait to hear how this newfound versatility translates to a full album.

JasonMartin And DJ Quik Make Magic On New Album “CHUPACABRA”

JasonMartin and DJ Quik are as Cali as it gets. They may come from different generations, but they shared a love for G-funk and smooth, feel-good music to play in the car. It doesn’t hurt that Quik is a literal G-funk pioneer. A good match on paper doesn’t always meet the results live up to the hype, but JasonMartin and DJ Quik arguably surpass expectations. They create an album that feels familiar and smooth, while at the same time distinct from their solo material. CHUPACABRA might be one of the top West Coast albums of 2024.

Part of the reason CHUPACABRA is so listenable is the musicality. The music is funky, unpredictable, and more experimental than one might expect. “CHUPA’S GROOVE” is a perfect example. It’s an instrumental passage with a bubbly bassline from Thundercat. It transcends rap conventions, yet feels right at home next to verses from Larry June and Bun B. The latter sounds excellent over the synth-heavy “Since I Was Lil.” There are too many guest verses to sift through here, but rest assured that everybody brings their A-game on CHUPACABRA. Ab-Soul is head-spinningly cool on “SOUL CIRCUS”, and CeeLo brings the grit of a classic soul sample on “DITTO.” Try to find a flaw on CHUPACABRA, and you’ll be looking for a long time.

JasonMartin & DJ Quik Slow Things Down On Dom Kennedy-Assisted “MONEY, CARS & GUNS”

JasonMartin and DJ Quik have an exciting album coming very soon called CHUPACABRA. This rapper/producer project will be available on June 14 and Martin, formerly known as Problem, is very excited for what they have coming. “This moment will be the legendary. The album we crafted together, with the help of @jayworthy142, will restore the feeling that’s been missing from California music as a whole. Everything from the production to the features were created in 30 days. This isn’t about art. This isn’t about numbers. This is about two Compton powerhouses joining forces one more time to give the city some fire a** music!!”. JasonMartin is certainly right, because “MONEY, CARS & GUNS” is just that.

This the sixth promotional track from CHUPACABRA, and it is looking like one of the shortest tracks from it. On “MONEY, CARS & GUNS”, JasonMartin actually does not rap at all. In fact, the feature, which is Dom Kennedy, dominates the 2:05 track all the way through. He brings a cool and smooth flow to this jazzy, summertime-like instrumental. There is a cool moment at the beginning where Quik starts off with a more up-tempo version of the beat and Dom asks him to slow things down. He corresponds and, in the visualizer below, the video replicates this by playing at a faster speed, before going back to normal. We cannot wait for what Jason and DJ Quik have in store, and we will not have to wait much longer.

JasonMartin & DJ Quik Deliver Fire Posse Cut “SINCE I WAS A LIL” With Jay Worthy, Curren$y, & Bun B

JasonMartin — who used to be referred to as Problem — is back with a highly anticipated single for an equally awaited project. The Compton, California rapper is not alone on this cut either. Legendary producer DJ Quik, along with Jay Worthy, Curren$y, and Bun B are also in on the fun. This latest song from JasonMartin is called “SINCE I WAS A LIL” and it is the second offering from CHUPACABRA. That is the alleged title of what will be a collaborative effort between the Jason and DJ Quik.

The veteran West Coast MC announced that this tape would be coming a few weeks ago on his Instagram in a lengthy monologue format. He explains that this is going to be one for the books and a project that fill a void that has been open for some time, Jason feels. “This moment will be the legendary. The album we crafted together, with the help of @jayworthy142 , will restore the feeling that’s been missing from California music as a whole.”

This is about two Compton powerhouses joining forces one more time to give the city some fire ass music!!”. The duo already released one cut from CHUPACABRA already just about a week ago called “GURBS & YOUNGS” with Jay Worthy and Larry June.
