Drake Surprised Fans At PartyNextDoor’s Toronto Show To Tease A Joint Album From The Two

PartyNextDoor’s Sorry, I’m Outside tour stopped in his native Toronto this evening, and was joined onstage by a fellow Torontonian, Drake, who popped out to perform “Finesse” alongside his OVO artist and deliver a second surprise to fans, just in case his presence wasn’t all that surprising. In a video shared by fans in attendance, Drake announced a joint album from himself and Party is coming this fall.

“I know you girls are outside,” he smarmed. “When it gets a little chilly, PartyNextDoor and Drake album will be right there for you.”

This joint album would be Drake’s second collaborative album, following 2022’s Her Loss with 21 Savage (2015’s What A Time To Be Alive with Future is officially listed as a mixtape in his discography, but you can count it if you want). It’ll be his first collab project with any member of his label, OVO Sound, as well.

Fans at the show sound fairly excited about the news in the video, but you can be sure skepticism for the project will be at all time highs on social media. The timing is certainly notable; Drake needs a win after being drubbed by Kendrick Lamar this summer, and it’s clearly good PR for him and promotion for his artist. In either case, both could certainly use the jolt of creative energy that comes from collaborating with a longtime friend — and project where neither has to carry the whole thing.

I guess we’ll find out this autumn — and what are the odds it actually comes out in October?

Drake Announces PARTYNEXTDOOR Collab Album And Teases Fall Release

Drake is staying busy. It’s been days since Ebro and Peter Rosenberg teased the possibility of a new Drake album coming soon. The Hot 97 hosts claimed the 6 God was working with Conductor Williams in the studio. Based on his recent announcement, though, Drake has been doing a lot more than that. The rapper made a surprise appearance at a PARTYNEXTDOOR show on Friday, and proceeded to blow the minds of OVO fans. He confirmed that he has a joint album with PND in the works, and it will be dropping in the fall.

Drake came out and crushed the building with his song selections. He treated PARTYNEXTDOOR fans to live performances of “Sweeterman” and “Redemption.” He even played “Wah Gwan Delilah,” the bizarre Plain White T’s cover he dropped a few months back. Fans thought they were being treated to a surprise Drake and PND reunion, but Drake saved the best for last. Towards the end of his set, he told the crowd that him and PARTY have something in the works for the fall. “Once Summer over with,” he stated. “Do what you need to do, I know all you girls are outside and when it gets a little chilly… a PARTYNEXTDOOR and Drake album will be right there for you…” The resulting screams from fans are deafening.

Drake Claims Him And PND Have Been Recording

Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR have been making great music together since 2013. That was the year the former signed the latter to OVO, and when the latter dropped his self-titled debut. PARTYNEXTDOOR is very much a secret weapon for Drake when it comes to the R&B side of his persona. The two have linked up on classics like “Come and See Me” (2016), “Since Way Back” (2017) and “LOYAL” (2019). PND also stole the show with a pair of standout appearances on Drake’s iconic If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late (2015).

The concept of a Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR collab album makes perfect sense on paper. The two artists have complimentary sounds. Some would argue that PND has played a big role in shaping the 6 God’s sound. PARTYNEXTDOOR’s writing talents have been praised ad nauseam, but his production on Drake’s “Legend” suggests he can also excel with a harder, hip-hop sound. The possibilities are endless for what the finished product will sound like. We just hope it’s a smoother rollout than Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign’s VULTURES 2. The pairing of rapper and R&B singer has yielded mostly drama. They did drop a new single, though, which you can check out below.

Mustard Calls Drake The Malcolm X Of White People In Scathing Twitter Rant

Mustard doesn’t like Drake. That much we all knew. The producer blessed Kendrick Lamar with the beat for “Not Like Us,” the most iconic diss song since Nas’ “Ether.” Mustard was featured prominently at the “Pop Out” show on Juneteenth, and the “Not Like Us” music video. That being said, the producer went off on Drake in a way fans had never seen before. He targeted the Toronto rapper and DJ Akademiks in an August 2nd Twitter rant that few saw coming. He also dropped some unique insults in the process.

The producer had a bone to pick with DJ Akademiks hyping up Drake’s recent hits. The 6 God teamed up with producer Gordo for the songs “Sideways” and “Healing.” Gordo’s album, DIAMANTE, dropped the same day as Mustard’s FAITH OF A MUSTARD SEED, and the latter felt the decision was made on purpose to take away from his moment. Frustrated, Mustard proceeded to call Drizzy “Malcolm X” for white people. “Drake is the Malcolm X of white people,” he tweeted. “Akademiks, make sure you post Gordo’s first week since … [they dropped] the same day as me.”

Mustard Crashes Out While Talking Album Sales

Mustard then accused Drake of using bots to boost the streaming numbers of his Gordo songs. He even tied it back in to his insult about Malcolm X. “These Drake bots are the Nation of drizzlam,” the producer wrote. He also tagged Akademiks and Gordo to make sure they saw what he had to say. The tweets kept coming. “The bots tryna fade me,” Mustard tweeted. He then dug it in his heels and called Ak and the 6 God racists. “Album sales are a form of white supremacy,” he wrote. “You n**gas racist.” The sales that Mustard is referring to does, admittedly, favor Gordo. Gordo’s album sold 20K during its first week, and Mustard’s only pulled in 18K. Not a huge discrepancy, but enough for the L.A. producer to get heated.

Mustard’s frustrations may have something to do with the personal nature of his album. He was clear about the fact that FAITH OF A MUSTARD SEED was his most revealing release yet. He even decided to rap on the outro, as a means of putting more of himself in the music than ever. I started feeling like the records were becoming more soulful-leaning,” he told XXL. “It just kind of reminded me of like, me being a kid and different parts of Los Angeles.” We’re going to assume he didn’t like DIAMANTE based on his comments.

JPEGMAFIA Doubles Down On Drake Disses And Mocks OVO Stans

JPEGMAFIA is a professional Drake hater. Well, he’s a professional rapper, producer, and performer, too. But underneath all those, he loves bashing the Toronto superstar. He’s been doing it for almost a decade, and he dished out some of his most scathing Drake bars on his new album. He dropped the phrase “No Drizzy” on the song “New Black History.” He also leaned into the rumor that the rapper has gotten with underage girls on “it’s dark and hell is hot.” OVO fans were obviously unhappy with JPEGMAFIA, but he didn’t back down. Instead, he went back at them on Twitter.

Hours after JPEGMAFIA dropped I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU, he addressed the Drake disses. He made three separate points, and all of them were pretty valid within the parameters that he set. The first one made note of the fact that he’s been ragging on Drake for a while. “1st off. I been dissing that n**ga since 2016,” he wrote. “Them sh*ts was throwaway bars not noteworthy.” Then, JPEGMAFIA turned his attention to fans who threatened him over the insulting bars. He made it very clear he’s going to stand behind what he said, whether it not it upsets certain people. “Second off if anybody got a problem with what i said on this album,” he added. “My tour dates in bio.”

JPEGMAFIA Urged Fans To Stop Defending Drake

The third point was directly at stans, rather than fans. The ones who defend their favorite rapper to the death, despite the fact that disses add up to very little at the end of the day. Peggy said it himself when he described his “No Drizzy” bars as “throwaway.” He clearly has had enough of the OVO stans who feel the need to address the hate that Drake has been getting in 2024. “Third, y’all cant even pay your rent but defending Drake for free,” JPEGMAFIA concluded. “Go outside and be somebody.” Basically, Peggy decided to follow up his Drake disses with some additional digs for the fans.

If it’s any consolation, JPEGMAFIA has been critical of most famous rappers. He regularly cited Kanye West as one of his favorite artists, yet attacked West on social media back in January. He claimed he was more talented than the people that West collaborates with, and made his feelings on the matter known. “Truthfully I don’t give a f*ck about nothing Kanye got going on at this point i just wanted to get paid,” he tweeted. “But its ok im not a rapist or some weirdo incel n**ga so I get why he wouldn’t wanna work with me.” Moral of the story: Nobody is safe from Peggy’s wrath.

ASAP Rocky Seemingly Disses Drake On Brash New Single “HIGHJACK”

ASAP Rocky has unfinished business with Drake. Kendrick Lamar, Rick Ross, and the rest of the rappers who went at the 6 God appear to be done. Rocky wants another round, though. At least, that’s what DJ Kast One claimed. The DJ went on Hot 97 and insisted that ASAP Rocky was dissing Drizzy all over his upcoming album, Don’t Be Dumb. We all assumed we’d have to wait until August 30 to hear these bars, but ASAP Rocky may have given us a taste with his new single, “HIGHJACK.” At least, that’s what some listeners think.

There’s a self-fulfilling aspect to analyzing bars. If one goes into a song looking for a diss, then one will likely find it. That being said, ASAP Rocky does say a lot of things that apply to Drake. “HIGHJACK” sees him trash talk somebody who has a lot in common with the 6 God. “These n**gas want my wife bad, the people want my next track,” Rocky raps. “The coppers want my black a*s, f*cked up, but it’s like that.” Rihanna’s relationships with both Rocky and Drake has been talking points point throughout the battle. Drake even referenced Ri by her nickname, “Fring,” when he dissed Rocky on “Family Matters.”

ASAP Rocky References Future’s “Like That” Diss

The most convincing piece of evidence that ASAP Rocky is dissing Drake, though, is the interpolation. “HIGHJACK” has a smooth, cloud rap instrumental, but Rocky repeatedly ends his bars with “like that.” This, of course, evokes Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That,” which was the Drake diss that started the whole battle. “Pull up to the trenches, all my jewelry, yeah, I’m like that,” he raps. “I just put my finger in the **** ’cause she like that. Don’t compare that p**sy boy to me (I don’t like that).” The “boy” that the rapper is insulting could conceivably be Drake aka “The Boy.”

ASAP Rocky isn’t the only rapper who seemingly wants a piece of Drake. The day before he dropped his single, JPEGMAFIA dropped his album I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU. The album contained not one but two Drake disses, and they were absolutely brutal. One alluded to the Toronto rapper fooling around with underage girls. The other saw Peggy coin the phrase “No Drizzy” in reference to the troubling allegations leveled at the 6 God. ASAP Rocky’s diss, if it even is one, is much tamer by comparison. Maybe the real fireworks will be on the album.

New Era’s OVO Collab With Drake Features Dodgers Hats That Couldn’t Be Worse Timed

Major League Baseball and New Era are regularly putting out hat collaborations with different designers, brands, and stars from the world of music and entertainment. The process of ideating, designing, and producing these collaborations means they’re in the work for quite some time, months or years before their release.

I say all of this because sometimes, you put in all that work on a project that you think is going to be a big hit and then, a month or two beforehand, something happens outside of your control that puts you in a real pickle. That is the case with New Era and Major League Baseball’s new collaboration with Drake’s OVO, with a line of hats featuring the OVO owl on the side — including not one but two Los Angeles Dodgers hats.

As you have likely heard, Drake is not exactly a beloved figure in Los Angeles at the moment, as his beef with Kendrick Lamar quite literally united the city against him and led to Lamar’s “Not Like Us” becoming an instant-classic L.A. anthem and the song of the summer — not just in L.A.

As such, I have a very hard time coming up with a worse-timed collaboration than a line of Drake-themed Dodgers hats. I’m sure there will be plenty of Drake fans that purchase the hats of other teams, especially the two Blue Jays hats, but I truly cannot imagine anyone earnestly buying one of the Dodgers hats — although, I could see people buying them ironically, so maybe that’ll work out for them.

Lil Yachty Breaks Down Why His Drake Collab That Kai Cenat Leaked Won’t Get An Official Release

A few days ago, Kai Cenat became the No. 1 bestie of Drake and Lil Yachty fans when he leaked a collaborative song (known as “Supersoak” or “SOD”) by the two rappers on his stream. It turns out the leak was Yachty’s way of getting the song out into the world, as he just revealed he won’t be able to give it an official release.

On an episode of Andrew Schulz’s Flagrant podcast, Yachty explained, “I sent a song to Kai to leak. We couldn’t get the sample cleared, so I just let Kai play it.” Schulz then asked if the song is coming out officially and Yachty responded, “No. But it’s everywhere.

Schulz then wondered about the sample-clearing process and Yachty explained about this specific case, “This wasn’t an artist, this was an Instagram, social media influencer. […] He went down, like, a Christian path.” Yachty noted that the negotiations didn’t even get to the point where money was discussed, as the person was just straight-up not interested in clearing the sample for the track at all.

Yachty was apparently implying the influencer wasn’t pleased with the song’s lyrical content: Per Genius, the song features lines like, “She was a hoe, but I ain’t gon’ judgе, ’cause that was way before,” and, “WhatsApp attachment, first time I seen you naked.” Genius credits the song’s sample to @mr_hotspot.

JPEGMAFIA Controls The Chaos On “I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU”

JPEGMAFIA is a menace. The man raps like nobody else, and makes beats like nobody else. He sounds beamed in from another dimension, where hip-hop is slightly off-kilter, and it’s incredible. Peggy reached a cultural high with his Danny Brown collab SCARING THE H*ES in 2023, but he’s back to doing what he does best on his new solo album. I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU definitely scares the h*es, but there’s darker elements at play here, and JPEGMAFIA channels them all brilliantly. The opener, “i scream this in the mirror before I interact with anyone,” lives up to its antisocial title. Guitar riffs crash into Peggy’s voice, resulting in an unhinged sonic stew.

There’s more of a traditional rap sound on the rest of the album, but only barely. “SIN MIEDO” flips a classic Miami bass sample into the musical equivalent of a mosh pit. “I’ll Be Right There” provides an unexpected breather, with its lush strings and romantic and the Jade sample spliced throughout. The artist has a knack for making incongruous sounds work together to create something unexpected, and the best parts of I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU stem from this unpredictability. It also helps that Peggy has electric chemistry with the likes of Vince Staples and Denzel Curry. Staples sounds menacing as ever on “New Black History,” while Curry skates over a messy horn break on “JPEGULTURA!” JPEGMAFIA also finds time to diss Drake multiple times, but you can read more about that here. Overall, I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU is another triumph.

JPEGMAFIA Obliterates Drake With Multiple Disses On His New Album

JPEGMAFIA truly does not care. He does what he wants, and he doesn’t apologize. It makes sense, given combative album titles like All My Heroes Are Cornballs (2019) and SCARING THE H*ES (2023). Peggy is bold as ever on his new release, I Lay Down My Life for You, but the sonic experimentalism will definitely be taking a backseat to the combative bars. JPEGMAFIA decided to hop aboard the Drake hate train, and deliver some absolutely brutal insults on the cuts “It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot” and “New Black History.” The rapper goes as far as to coin the phrase “No Drizzy.”

“It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot” is not solely a Drake diss. There are bars aimed at entitled fans and jealous rappers, but the ones aimed at the 6 God are unmistakable. He flips Drake’s 2018 song “No Friends In the Industry” while spotlighting the allegations that the Toronto rapper has been with underage girls. “I can count all of my industry friends on my hands. And my n**gas, they be in demand,” JPEGMAFIA spits. “Obviously, rappers, they know what it is. If I show you a Drac’, I ain’t playin’ with kids.” The use of Drac’ the firearm as a double entendre for Drizzy is another reference, to Kendrick Lamar’s “Euphoria” diss. It is worth pointing out the song’s title evokes DMX’s first album. DMX, of course, was a rapper who very much despised the 6 God.

JPEGMAFIA Coins The Phrase “No Drizzy” On His Album

Then there’s the “No Drizzy” line. The song “New Black History” sees JPEGMAFIA and Vince Staples trade bars over a glitchy instrumental. Staples is predictably excellent during his verse, but Peggy goes for the throat on his. “‘Specially when ya’ll cashing out for PDF’s and rapers (No Drizzy),” he raps. “I hope ya’ll paid attention, no really, I’m dyin’. I killed myself, tell them to kill me (Hey).” Oof. “No Drizzy” comes from the same place as “No Diddy,” which took the internet by storm earlier this year. The phrase was a way to denote sus behavior, while referencing the horrid allegations leveled at Diddy.

JPEGMAFIA equating Drake with Diddy is perhaps the most devastating diss made by anyone not named Kendrick Lamar. This, of course, is nothing new for the rapper. JPEGMAFIA has been a Drake hater since day one. “I been randomly dissing Drake for like five years,” he told DJ Booth in 2019. “Don’t know why. I guess, because [it’s] Drake. He’s so big that yeah I have been dissing him for five years, just because like he’s big as f*ck.” Peggy’s disses are a bit more heated on the new album, though, so there may be more to the hating than internet trolling. When Kendrick Lamar’s “Meet the Grahams” diss dropped on May 3, JPEGMAFIA tweeted: “I’m no longer the biggest Drake hater. Kendrick Unbelievable.” We agree, but the rapper is giving Dot a run for his money.

Lil Yachty Claims Drake Leak “Supersoak” Will Never Get An Official Release

Lil Yachty had a lot to say on the Flagrant podcast. The rapper has developed a reputation for being Drake’s best friend in the music industry, so naturally he was bombarded with 6 God questions. One such question pertained to the recent collaboration between Yachty and Drake, “S.O.D. (Supersoak).” The song was played by Kai Cenat during a recent Twitch stream, and fans have been eager to know when the official version will be released on streaming. According to Lil Yachty, the answer is never.

Lil Boat revealed he was the one who sent “S.O.D.” to Kai Cenat. “I sent a song to Kai to leak,” he told host Andrew Schultz. The rapper then explained the reasoning behind the Twitch pivot: him and Drake couldn’t get the sample for the song cleared. “We couldn’t get the sample,” he added. “So I just let Kai play it.” Schultz asked whether “S.O.D.” would ever see the light of day, and Lil Yachty said no. He was ultimately, pleased, however, by how much attention the song got from the leak. “It’s everywhere,” the rapper noted.

More questions surfaced. Schultz was puzzled as to how an artist of Drake’s stature couldn’t secure a sample clearance. Apparently, it came down to religious beliefs. “S.O.D.” samples an IG post, and the person who made the post didn’t approve of the song’s lyrical content. “He went down like a Christian path,” the rapper explained. Lil Yachty claimed he didn’t get a chance to make the influencer an offer, however, before he was turned down. “I don’t even think we got into money, ” the rapper recalled. “He was just like, ‘no.’ It was crazy.”

The influencer wasn’t alone in his dislike for “S.O.D. (Supersoak).” Soulja Boy hopped on IG Live and accused Drake of dissing him on the song’s hook. “Drake, you up here talkin’ about some S.O.D. super soak,” Soulja said. “Boy, stop playin wit me, boy. That better be a f*cking shout out, n*ga.” Soulja Boy even made reference to Drake’s recent battle with Kendrick Lamar. A battle that Lil Yachty regretted discussing during a previous podcast appearance. During his Flagrant appearance, he said he’ll avoid speaking about Drake’s business in the future. “I just wish I had never spoke on it,” he told Schultz. “I wish I hadn’t said anything about it.”
