Timbaland, R.E.M. Members, And Other Music Legends Are Getting Inducted Into The Songwriters Hall Of Fame

Millions of people have dreamed of a career in music, but only a small percentage of them have actually made it happen, and an even more exclusive portion of that group have gone down in history as being among the best to ever do it. So, getting inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame is a major honor, and now the 2024 class has been unveiled (per Billboard).

Getting inducted as “non-performing” songwriters are Timothy Mosley (Timbaland), Hillary Lindsey (who wrote songs like Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus, Take the Wheel” and Little Big Town’s “Girl Crush”), and Dean Pitchford (who wrote Kenny Loggins’ “Footloose” and Bonnie Tyler’s “Holdin’ Out For A Hero”). Also making the cut are R.E.M. members Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills and Michael Stipe, and Steely Dan members Donald Fagen and Walter Becker.

HOF chairman Nile Rodgers said in a statement, “We are […] very proud that we are continually recognizing some of the culturally most important songwriters of all time and that the 2024 slate represents not just iconic songs but also diversity and unity across genres, ethnicity and gender, songwriters who have enriched our lives and literally enriched music and the lives of billions of listeners all over the world.”

The inductees will be honored at the 2024 Induction And Awards Gala, which is set for June 13 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

Jack Harlow Is Still Feeling The Love While Teddy Swims Lands His First Top-10 Single On The New ‘Billboard’ Hot 100 Chart

Every week, Billboard unveils the top 10 songs on the latest Hot 100 chart. The most recent rankings, for the chart dated January 20, are out now, so let’s run down who had this week’s biggest hits.

10. Morgan Wallen — “Last Night”

It’s been quite the past year for Wallen’s “Last Night,” just about exactly at this point: The song was released on January 31, 2023 and it’s still in the Hot 100 top 10.

9. Doja Cat — “Agora Hills”

Doja is the only artist with multiple top-10 songs this week, and that’s thanks in part to “Agora Hills” setting a new personal-best placement at No. 9.

8. Teddy Swims — “Lose Control”

Here’s perhaps the most notable entry on this week’s Hot 100, as “Lose Control” is the first top-10 single for Teddy Swims. It’s his first song to crack the Hot 100 at all, actually. It’s been a steady rise to the region, as the track was originally released in June 2023.

7. Tyla — “Water”

Tyla had a breakout year in 2023 thanks to her hit single and that is clearly continuing into 2024, as “Water” matches its all-time high at No. 7 this week.

6. SZA — “Snooze”

“Snooze” never quite hit No. 1, topping out in the silver-medal spot, but the song has maintained a high chart position following its April 2023 release.

5. Doja Cat — “Paint The Town Red”

Doja said what she said, and she’s been saying it for a while now, as “Paint The Town Red” was released back in August 2023 and it’s still in the top 5 on the Hot 100.

4. Zach Bryan — “I Remember Everything” Feat. Kacey Musgraves

Bryan and Musgraves’ collab continues to dominate various Billboard charts, as it’s currently No. 1 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Rock Songs charts for a 20th week and on the Hot Country Songs for a 16th total week.

3. Tate McRae — “Greedy”

“Greedy” previously reached its current chart peak at No. 3, and that’s where McRae’s hit finds itself this week, too.

2. Taylor Swift — “Cruel Summer”

Swift’s “Cruel Summer” previously enjoyed four weeks at No. 1, and while it’s not on top anymore, the 2019 song is still enjoying significant Hot 100 success.

1. Jack Harlow — “Lovin On Me”

This is the third total week at No. 1 for “Lovin On Me,” Harlow’s 2023 hit. This is tied for his longest stay on top of the Hot 100, as “First Class” was previously No. 1 for three weeks in 2022. His Lil Nas X collab “Industry Baby” also reigned for a week in 2021.

Who Is Performing At The 2024 Grammy Awards?

The 66th Annual Grammy Awards are coming right up, as the 2024 ceremony is set to go down on February 4 at 8 p.m. ET. Aside from seeing who ends up winning what awards (find the list of nominees here), the other main appeal of the broadcast is checking out the live performances.

Who is performing at the 2024 Grammy Awards?

The first wave of performers was announced yesterday (January 15), and it’s short and sweet, featuring Olivia Rodrigo, Dua Lipa, and Billie Eilish (all of whom previously won the Grammy for Best New Artist, coincidentally). More artists are set to be announced as the ceremony approaches.

Eilish and Rodrigo have a lot on the line this year, as they’re both nominated for six Grammys. Eilish’s Barbie hit “What Was I Made For?” is up for Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Song Written For Visual Media, and Best Music Video, while her and Labrinth’s “Never Felt So Alone” is up for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

Rodrigo, meanwhile, is nominated for Album Of The Year, Best Pop Vocal Album (both for Guts), Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Best Pop Solo Performance (all for “Vampire”), and Best Rock Song (for “Ballad Of A Homeschooled Girl.”

Lipa’s Barbie song “Dance The Night” has a couple nods as well, for Song Of The Year and Best Song Written For Visual Media.

Kelly Clarkson, The Beatles, Justin Timberlake, And Other Musicians Had Some Of TV’s Most Impactful Moments Ever, Says The Emmys

The Beatles 1965
Getty Image

A few days ago, The Academy Of Television Arts & Sciences (aka the Television Academy, the organization behind the Primetime Emmy Awards), shared a list of the “Top 75 Most Impactful Television Moments.” As for how the list was decided, they explained, “In celebration of the Emmy Awards’ 75th Anniversary, we invited Television Academy members to review several hundred programs and news moments submitted by our Peer Group Executive Committees, and to then vote on those they felt have had the greatest impact on the viewing public over the past 75 years.”

Music has long played a major role in TV history, and this new list makes that clear. Two music moments made the top 10: The Beatles’ iconic performance on The Ed Sullivan Show is No. 3, behind only the Apollo 11 moon landing at No. 1 and 9/11 news coverage at No. 2. At No. 9 is the first music video that aired on MTV, The Buggles’ “Video Killed The Radio Star.”

Just outside the top 10, at No. 11, is an Elvis Presley performance on The Ed Sullivan Show. Other notable moments include Live Aid (No. 37); the first season finale of American Idol, which saw Kelly Clarkson named the winner (No. 44); the debut of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” video on MTV (No. 48); Justin Timberlake exposing Janet Jackson’s breast during the Super Bowl XXXVIII Halftime Show (No. 61); and Whitney Houston singing the “Star Spangled Banner” before Super Bowl XXV (No. 65).

This list was compiled and shared ahead of the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, which airs tonight (January 15) at 8 p.m. ET (learn how to watch the show here). Ahead of then, check out the full list here.

Ozzy Osbourne Gave T-Pain The Highest Praise After Seeing Him Perform A Cover Of His Classic

YouTube

Every couple of years, folks on the internet collectively remember that T-Pain can actually sing, and every time, they go absolutely bananas. Usually, this is prompted by a video of the Tallahassee native performing that goes viral, reminding everyone that the man is still around and still very, very talented.

The latest example comes by way of a concert recording of his latest album, On Top Of The Covers, which he performed at The Sun Rose in Los Angeles last march. As usual, people are freaking out, but one of the artists he covers, Ozzy Osbourne, had a question:

“Why didn’t you guys call me?” he wrote on Twitter, after calling a video of the performance “the best cover of ‘War Pigs’ ever.”

Pain, who naturally saw the compliment, expressed his amazement and gratitude at receiving such high praise. “First thing I said was ‘wow,’” he wrote alongside a screenshot of the rock legend’s tweet. “This is an honor and the greatest form of validation. Thank you brother.”

Meanwhile, as one group of internet users is having their minds blown by the discovery that T-Pain can sing without his signature Autotune (something for which he once received such harsh criticism from Usher, he almost quit music entirely), another group of fans is getting their kicks being super smug about it. The life cycle of the internet in a nutshell. For funsies, you can check out the full show below.
