T-Pain Is Making Another “On Top Of The Covers” Album

T-Pain has announced that a sequel to his On Top of the Covers album is on the way. He confirmed the project while performing at the Stagecoach Festival as a surprise guest during Jelly Roll‘s set on Friday. On stage, he performed “All I Do Is Win” and “Buy U A Drank,” as well as a cover of “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” by the late Toby Keith.

After Jelly Roll praised the original album and revealed it’s what inspired him to invite T-Pain on stage, the rapper revealed that part 2 would be coming “real soon” and advised fans to “get ready for that.” He dropped the first album back in March of last year. It featured covers of Black Sabbath, Journey, Sam Cooke, and more.

He previously revealed that he began working on the covers album years beforehand after winning The Masked Singer in 2019. “This covers album has been years in the making. I started recording this right after I won The Masked Singer,” he told Rolling Stone in 2023. “It got put on hold for a bit but now that I’m independent, I’m able to do whatever I want to do through Nappy Boy Entertainment and this is something I’ve felt strongly about for a long time. These songs are not what you’d expect when you hear that T-Pain is doing a covers album and that is what I think is cool about it.”

Ozzy Osbourne Gave T-Pain The Highest Praise After Seeing Him Perform A Cover Of His Classic

Every couple of years, folks on the internet collectively remember that T-Pain can actually sing, and every time, they go absolutely bananas. Usually, this is prompted by a video of the Tallahassee native performing that goes viral, reminding everyone that the man is still around and still very, very talented.

The latest example comes by way of a concert recording of his latest album, On Top Of The Covers, which he performed at The Sun Rose in Los Angeles last march. As usual, people are freaking out, but one of the artists he covers, Ozzy Osbourne, had a question:

“Why didn’t you guys call me?” he wrote on Twitter, after calling a video of the performance “the best cover of ‘War Pigs’ ever.”

Pain, who naturally saw the compliment, expressed his amazement and gratitude at receiving such high praise. “First thing I said was ‘wow,’” he wrote alongside a screenshot of the rock legend’s tweet. “This is an honor and the greatest form of validation. Thank you brother.”

Meanwhile, as one group of internet users is having their minds blown by the discovery that T-Pain can sing without his signature Autotune (something for which he once received such harsh criticism from Usher, he almost quit music entirely), another group of fans is getting their kicks being super smug about it. The life cycle of the internet in a nutshell. For funsies, you can check out the full show below.

How To Watch T-Pain’s ‘On Top Of The Covers’ Live Show

Last month, T-Pain released a live album of his On Top Of The Covers record, which coincided with his set at Los Angeles’ The Sun Rose, according to Complex.

The album includes stripped-down performances of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin,’” Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come,” Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me,” Luther Vandross’ “Never Too Much,” Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey,” Frank Sinatra’s “That’s Life,” Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs,” and many more.

For those who are looking to watch T-Pain’s show from The Sun Rose, it is currently available on YouTube.

“I’m so excited for the world to hear and see this,” T-Pain said. “Since it’s the gift-giving time of year, I decided to release the full performance. Let’s keep the good times rolling in to 2024!”

“For all the people who wanted an album of me singing live, this is my holiday gift to you,” he added on Instagram. “For the Tiny Desk & Masked Singer fans & everyone in between, you ain’t heard nothing yet.”

In case anyone might have missed it, T-Pain previously competed on The Masked Singer. Given he had been known for Aut-Tune usage in his music, his real (and extremely talented) vocals shocked both the judges and viewers. Now, he’s continuing to show them off.

T-Pain Channels Ozzy Osbourne In A Rocking Cover Of Black Sabbath’s ‘War Pigs’

Remember a few years ago when everyone learned that T-Pain could actually sing? Well, he’s putting those skills to the test with a new album of cover songs, On Top Of The Covers. On it, the Tallahassee crooner takes on such R&B classics as Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come” and Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” — but he doesn’t stop there.

Why only stick with one genre, when you have the sort of talent T-Pain has? The answer is: you don’t. That’s why he’s got American Songbook standards like Frank Sinatra’s “That’s Life,” country hits like Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey,” and iconic rock anthems like Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” on the album. But one of the standouts is his take on heavy metal; that’s right, T-Pain sings Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” on the album too!

As he takes on the metal band’s 1970 anti-war protest song, he does his best to channel Ozzy Osbourne and does a pretty decent job of it, even if no one can really duplicate that signature wail. Check it out above.

This weekend, T-Pain is playing three shows at Sun Rose at Pendry in West Hollywood to celebrate the album’s release; you can get tickets here.

On Top Of The Covers is out now via Nappy Boy Entertainment. You can listen to it below.

T-Pain Ditches The Autotune For “On Top Of The Covers” Album

He’s known as the God of Autotune, but T-Pain is a crooner without the extra help. He’s delivered some of our favorite hits with the help of autotune, but it’s been well-established that T-Pain’s natural singing voice doesn’t need assistance. He dominated on The Masked Singer and has flexed his R&B stylings when performing live, so it was only a matter of time before we received an album. T-Pain delivered, and he’s revisiting classics on his record, On Top Of The Covers. The Nappy Boy Entertainment release is an anticipated arrival as fans are excited to hear the other side of the singer-producer’s talents.

On Top Of The Covers features T-Pain’s creative take on Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come,” Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’,” Dr. Hook’s “Sharing The Night Together,” Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me,” Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey,” Frank Sinatra’s “That’s Life” ft. NandoSTL (a Nappy Boy Entertainment artist), and Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs.” Additionally, there is an interlude, “Skrangs” (in K Major Sus).

T-Pain Explains Why He Chose These Tracks

“Each one of these songs means something to me and helped me fall in love with music at different points in my life,” the musician said in a press release. “I’m releasing this covers album from the view of what I hear when I listen to each song. I can’t wait to share with the world what I’ve been working on the past several years.” Further, he has planned a special weekend in Los Angeles to help celebrate the project.

Today (March 17) through Sunday, T-Pain will perform intimate shows for three nights. He’ll take over The Sun Rose at Pendry in West Hollywood for ‘An Intimate Evening with T-Pain,’ as he and his live band showcase his covers and fan favorites. The carefully curated setlist is a secret as of now, but we’re sure T-Pain will share highlights from the event in the days to come. Check out On Top Of The Covers by T-Pain, and let us know what you think.

T-Pain Reveals Diddy and Other Artists Used to Pay Him When They Used Autotune

Autotune has surely been good to T-Pain. The rapper turnt sanga appeared on his Nappy Boy Radio podcast with DJ Drama, and detailed that at its peak, the voice enhancer created an additional source of revenue for him. T-Pain told Drama that people were paying him as they used autotune.

“Is it true that there was a point and time where you got paid off of anytime anyone would use Autotune?” Drama asked.

T-Pain confirmed the story as true. “Absolutely. It was nuts. Some people volunteered and some people didn’t know, so that was great. Diddy volunteered. Diddy gave me points on Last Train To Paris ’cause he used Autotune.”

“I still have the video on a hard drive right now of Diddy writing a contract on a napkin in the studio saying he was gonna give me a point on Last Train To Paris and we both signed it.”

T-Pain Announces New Covers Album Titled “On Top Of The Covers”

T-Pain is timeless. In 2022, the autotune pop-rap legend linked up with some of hip-hop’s hottest young acts to send a reminder. In March, he connected with tobi lou for his “Non-Perishable” cut. Later that month, he and Denzel Curry collided for the incredible “Troubles” off Curry’s latest album. That same week, T-Pain also landed on the song “Happy Hour” from Buddy’s Superghetto. All of these performances did an excellent job of showing the new generation just how talented he is. Additionally, it helped rope in some old heads into some newer artists’ work.

Another recent gig T-Pain partook in was his stellar showing on the FOX TV show The Masked Singer. In 2019’s season, T-Pain won the entire competition. Rocking a monster costume the whole time, T-Pain performed some all-time hits and won over the judges. In particular, renditions of Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now,” The Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling” and Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” were his best. Because of this victory, T-Pain continued doing covers of hit songs like these. So much so, that he revealed an incredible new project this week.

T-Pain’s Bringing The Covers

On Wednesday (Feb. 15), T-Pain announced that his upcoming seventh studio album will arrive on March 17. Titled On Top Of The Covers, T-Pain’s forthcoming LP will see him deliver covers of all-time great hits. Only seven songs long, On Top Of The Covers includes T-Pain’s versions of Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come” and Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’.” Additionally, he adds his cover of Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” from The Masked Singer to the album, to the delight of many cable television viewers.

Along with the album on March 17, T-Pain will also be giving two back-to-back performances in LA. The venue for these shows is The Sun Rose and they take place on March 17 & 18. Tickets go on sale at 1:00 pm ET on Friday (Feb. 17) on T-Pain’s website. Via press release, T-Pain confirmed that this album was possible because of his independent status. “It got put on hold for a bit but now that I’m independent, I’m able to do whatever I want to do through Nappy Boy Entertainment and this is something I’ve felt strongly about for a long time,” he said. “These songs are not what you’d expect when you hear that T-Pain is doing a covers album and that is what I think is cool about it.” Check out the entire track list for On Top Of The Covers below.
