SZA’s ‘Hot Ones’ Bug Costume Returns On The Out-Of-This-World Cover For ‘Lana’

SZA Hot Ones
YouTube

Back in September, SZA appeared on Hot Ones rocking a facial prosthetic with bug eyes and antennae, joking, “I’m just tired of being not a bug… Wouldn’t you want to be a bug if you could be anything else?” While the bizarre aesthetic threw off some fans — but not host Sean Evans, who took it in stride, not even asking about it until over ten minutes into the interview — others deduced it could be a clue to SZA’s upcoming album, Lana, which she’s been teasing since releasing her smash album, SOS, in 2022.

Now that the album is officially on the way — and seemingly upgraded from a deluxe edition of SOS to its own thing — the cheeky rollout is snowballing its way toward its December 20 release date. Today, SZA shared the cover art, on which her bug prosthetic makes its return — and expands to encompass her entire body, turning her into a shimmering (but extremely fashionable) alien insect. Perhaps hanging out with Doja Cat has rubbed off on her.

In any event, you can check out the cover art below or on SZA’s social media. Lana is out on 12/20 via Top Dawg Entertainment. You can find more info when the pre-save link goes live.

Pharrell Believes We’ll Have People Living On Mars In The Near Future

Over the past handful of years, humanity has been really into Mars. We’ve been taking some pictures up there, and Elon Musk has his sights set on a mission to the red planet. The biggest Mars idea is that people will eventually live there, and Pharrell doesn’t think that’s too far off, he revealed on a new episode of Hot Ones shared today (October 10).

At around 11 minutes into the interview, host Sean Evans made note of Pharrell’s apparent ability to make accurate predictions about the future. So, on that note, he asked Pharrell for his take on some future predictions. He began by asking if Pharrell thinks there will be a human colony on Mars “in our lifetime.” Pharrell responded, “Yes, because I think that it’s possible to terraform that planet. I think the conditions aren’t too far off for them to do the work that they would need to do to make it happen.”

Evans also asked if there’s anything that excites or scares Pharrell about the future of music and he responded, “You know, creativity bifurcates, and if you were to ask somebody 15 years ago about what music is right now, what is OK to say now, they’d be surprised. What it’s not OK to say right now, they’d be surprised. That’s just an effect of, like, the evolution in humanity.”

Pharrell also discussed his relationship with luxury, saying, “I’m not a materials person in terms of wanting those things as much. I mean, I’m grateful for what I have and I’m cool. I’m not looking for too much more than just experience and the ability to design and do partnerships. I’m enjoying that, I’m enjoying just designing and artistically iterating.”

SZA Rocks A Wild Bug Prosthetic And Discusses Her ‘Toxic Relationship’ With Music On ‘Hot Ones’

The immediate headline from SZA’s Hot Ones episode that dropped today (September 26) is what’s going with (or “on,” more accurately) her face: She did the whole show in a facial prosthetic that makes her look like a bug.

SZA explained it at about 12 minutes into the episode, saying, “This one brings me so much peace of mind. It just… in the realm of, like, being a person is so daunting, and like being your own skin and […] just the freedom of… of yeah, for no other reason other than I’m just tired of being not a bug. It’s like, ‘What the f*ck?’ Wouldn’t you want to be a bug if you could be anything else?”

Meanwhile, starting at about six minutes into the video, SZA satisfied her curiosity about host Sean Evans. She asked about his relationship status and wondered why he’s not married, saying, “Do you feel like this is more exciting than any connection you have with the opposite sex?” With a smile, Evans explained how the show “meets me halfway all the time,” adding, “What I put into it, I get out of it.” He concluded by saying he has an “honest relationship” with Hot Ones.

SZA replied, “I f*ck with that. I wish I could say the same for music.” She continued, “It’s just not honest enough for me. I never know what’s happening. I be like, ‘I thought you liked this?’ And then they’re like, ‘No, stupid. We hate this! We want more of this,’ and it’s just so confusing. I’m just like, ‘What… does my boyfriend love me?’ It’s abusive, but it’s also very fulfilling and validating. I’m in a different type of relationship. You have a good thing.” She then agreed with Evans’ takeaway that SZA is in a “toxic relationship with music.”

SZA Gets Candid About Her Latest Breakup, Ex-Fiancé & More On “Hot Ones”

Recently, SZA appeared on First We Feast’s Hot Ones, where she opened up about her career, personal life, and more. She did all this while dressed up as a bug, telling host Sean Evans that she’s “just tired of being not a bug.” During the interview, the songstress was asked which songs were the most emotional for her to perform, which prompted her to make some revelations about her love life.

“‘Nobody Gets Me’ because my ex-fiancé hates me so much, and it’s so unfortunate,” she explained. “Every time I sing it, it’s like, ‘Damn, what the f*ck?’” SZA continued, adding that “Normal Girl,” “20 Something,” and “Drew Barrymore” are also emotional, comparing the latter to the feeling of seeing “the boy you like … f*ckin’ on some other girl” at a party.

SZA Talks Dating On Hot Ones

Elsewhere in the interview, SZA was asked to give viewers an update on what’s been going on in her life. “I’m going through a breakup, it’s hot as f*ck,” she revealed. The Grammy winner didn’t share much more than that about the current state of her dating life, though she did compare her career to a toxic relationship. According to her, the music industry has been tough to navigate, as it can be so unpredictable. She recalled being annoyed by the success of her track “Kill Bill,” as she found it “super easy” to write. “I never know what’s happening,” she described. “I be like, ‘I thought you liked this.’ Then they’re like, ‘No, st*pid, we hate this.’”

“It’s abusive, but it’s also very fulfilling and validating,” SZA added. “The toxic [relationships] are the most fun.” What do you think of SZA revealing that her former fiancé “hates” her on Hot Ones? SZA’s Alien Get-Up For “Hot Ones” Has Fans Theorizing Its The Beginning Of Her Album Roll Out

SZA has been fending off new album demands for as long as she possibly can. Her acclaimed 2022 record SOS has tons of quality on it and its somehow still getting nominations in 2024. But her fans are ready for LANA, and we are too. However, some people may be getting a little too overzealous, at least right now anyway. According to Uproxx, the St. Louis native and First We Feast‘s show Hot Ones are getting ready to release their sit-down to YouTube in just a couple of days.

It is slated to premier on September 26, and while a SZA interview is always something special, fans seem to be more engaged with the promotional poster. The platform posted the preview to their Instagram and in it, she looks like an alien. It’s a pretty creepy sight, but going to back to that overzealous point, some see this as some sort of roll out for LANA. “OMG THE ERA IS STARTING”, one eagerly writes.

“We’re getting that album soon hopefully 😩”, another cautiously predicts. ““The ‘LANA’ tease”… “AND THE ROLLOUT BEGINS”, two others add. SZA was also in the comments and penned a cryptic but perhaps foreshadowing message in the process, “Fun times at the pain farm ❤”. All we can do is speculate for now, but hopefully, we get some album updates in the process.

What are your thoughts on SZA looking like an alien for her upcoming appearance on Hot Ones? Do you think this is straight up odd, or is it her teasing her next project? Are you going to tune in to the episode? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Childish Gambino Sheds Light On Leaving Rap Name Behind In New “Hot Ones” Episode

Donald Glover was the latest spice-ridden guest on Hot Ones with Sean Evans, and it was a very fun and compelling conversation to watch go down. Moreover, he compared the process of eating ten increasingly spicy chicken wings and answering Evans’ questions to ayahuasca, and we still don’t know if he meant that in a good or bad way. Jokes aside, this new episode lands right before the release of Glover’s new album, Bando Stone & The New World, which will seemingly be his final effort under the Childish Gambino moniker. During this interview, he remarked on what this name means to him, how he sees its retirement, and who contributed to these conclusions.

“A collaborator of mine, fam and I, we talked about the death of Superman a lot,” Childish Gambino said on Hot Ones. “I always knew Childish Gambino was like a character, and on some level, I wanted it to end. I almost feel like Childish Gambino is like the boss from The Office. Like, ‘That stuff worked 10 years ago.’ All that stuff worked, but now it’s like a different thing. It’s like, ‘Oh, it’s a little sad.’ But it’s like, wow, the cycle kind of continues, which is great, I think.”

Childish Gambino On Hot Ones

“The Childish Gambino story from the Wu-Tang Clan,” the multi-hyphenate said towards the end of the Hot Ones episode, explaining the meaning of his rap name (taken from a Wu-Tang name generator) that he’s come to understand. “RZA told me it’s a story of a child turning into a boss. This last sunset walk is for the fans. This is for you.”

“If this isn’t the best live show you’ve seen,” Childish Gambino joked about his upcoming world tour, which begins in Oklahoma on August 11 and will get support from WILLOW and Amaarae. “After the first song, if you’re like, ‘I gotta go,’ you can leave and I’ll give you your money back. That’s how much I care about all of this. That’s not a joke. My lawyers will be like, ‘It’s a joke,’ but it’s not a joke. I will set it up so you can go.”

“This week on @HotOnes, we got @donaldglover vs. The Wings of Death. 💀 Tune in Thursday @ 11AM ET 🔥,” read the caption.

Maya Rudolph As Beyoncé Couldn’t Handle The Southern Heat In A Hilarious ‘Hot Ones’ Parody On ‘SNL’

Beyoncé can do it all — singing, dancing, acting, and recently, launching a haircare brand. And even though she carries hot sauce in her bag — as she noted on her 2016 hit single “Formation” — it’s possible that even she can’t handle the spice level of the wings on Hot Ones. In a Saturday Night Live sketch tonight (May 10), Mikey Day played Hot Ones host Sean Evans in a parody of the iconic YouTube show. Joining Day was tonight’s (May 11) host, Rudolph, as the one-and-only Beyoncé.

Hot off the release of her latest album, Cowboy Carter, Rudolph’s Beyoncé reminds us that she’s a southern country queen. But the flavor and heat of the wings proves to be too much — even for the Queen Bey.

Rudolph’s Beyoncé takes to the first few wings pretty well. But by the time she tries the “Sergeant Sphincter’s Volcanpeño sauce, with a Scoville rating of 530,000,” she appears to meet her match.

“This wing is stompin’ my ass,” she said. “Damn, my bones are hot. That wing was a real one.”

But thanks to the help of Bey’s loyal assistant, De’Raphael (Kenan Thompson), the world, perhaps, might never see Beyoncé in this rather humbling scenario.

You can watch the sketch above.
