Sexyy Red & Summer Walker Tap Lil Scrappy For New “I Might” Music Video: Watch

Sexyy Red isn’t slowing down in 2024, it seems, as not even childbirth could keep her down for a music video shoot. Moreover, her (and her baby bump) star alongside Lil Scrappy, Summer Walker, and more in the new visual for “I Might,” featuring the latter as a guest artist. For those unaware, this rap/R&B fusion appeared on the deluxe version of the St. Louis rapper’s breakout album Hood Hottest Princess. It’s a romantic tale about lust that still deals with the fallout of another relationship, and this new short film parallels that story quite well and invokes a lot of colorful settings, tropes, and narrative moments that make it a pretty engaging throwback vibe.

Of course, this is not Sexyy Red’s first music video of the year, with that fact attributed to “Rich Baby Daddy” with Drake and SZA. That cut ended up on the Canadian superstar’s 2023 album For All The Dogs, and was definitely among the most fun songs to release last year in the hip-hop mainstream. Fittingly, its visual treatment is also pretty cheeky, as it portrays the “Pound Town” hitmaker and the 6ix God as a couple with some comical interactions. However, this definitely doesn’t answer the question of whether we’ll get more long-form new music from her this year, but that’s a pretty easy code to crack.

Sexyy Red’s “I Might” With Summer Walker: Watch The Music Video

After all, Sexyy Red recently teased some new material on social media, and if you’re not already a fan, it won’t convert you. But it doesn’t have to, because it’s clear that she’s building her following and artistry based on some pretty simple but salient core ideas. Say what you will about the content matter within, but it’s a wild double standard to pretend like it’s much raunchier than most other mainstream rap right now. Maybe one day, we’ll get the genre diversion that some fans think is warranted, and we’ll see for sure whether it was the right call.

Sexyy Red is officially a mother (for the second time). The “Pound Town” rapper took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm that she has given birth.

For months, Sexyy Red has provided fans with updates regarding her pregnancy. From her maternity photoshoot to her lavish Chinatown-themed baby shower, supporter haven’t been left out of any step. But the updates didn’t stop there. On Monday, February 5, Sexyy Red posted a series of photos celebrating the birth of her child.

Thrilled by the safe arrival of her new bundle of joy and excitement to have her anatomy, Sexyy Red shared the first thing on her post-pregnancy agenda. “Me waitin’ to get discharged from the hospital,” she wrote. “…so I can hit da block wit da guys 🎲🚘.”

During an interview with Billboard, Sexyy opened up about her struggles while pregnant. “Being pregnant is stressful,” she said. “It wears your body down. I was tired, but I tried to hide it as much as you possibly could. I like to have a personal life.”

So, Sexyy Red’s desire to let loose makes perfect sense. But for now, mommy duty calls. By the summer, she could be back outside for real, as the kids say.

Her songwriting is impeccable and while she does have her fair share of haters, she ended up cooking up an amazing year.

Overall, it all started with the song “Pound Town.” Furthermore, eventually, it went into the song “SkeeYee” and even “Hellcats SRTs.” These songs are all massive and they are making a huge splash in the clubs, cars, and even sporting events. We even crowned her as Hip-Hop’s MVP for 2023. The reason for this is quite simple. She has had the best year out of anyone in the entire genre. Which is an impressive feat considering the great year some artists have had.

Now that we are almost at the end of the year, numerous publications are putting out there songs and album lists. These lists are always highly-debated and it is rare that anyone comes to a consensus. However, Sexyy Red’s “SkeeYee” is a track that everyone can agree is a pure banger. With that said, it should come as very little surprise that a publication like Rolling Stone would give the song an honor. Just yesterday, they named the song as the best hip-hop track of the year. For some, this may be divisive. For others, it is the correct choice.

How Sexyy Red Managed To Dominate Rap In 2023

Without a doubt, Sexyy Red is one of the biggest breakout stars of 2023. While the rapper first gained attention in 2018, it was in 2023 that her career took off. Her uprising has been interesting to witness, to say the least. Moreover, it looks like this is only the beginning.

Kicking Things Off With “Pound Town”

Between 2018 and 2022, Sexyy Red released multiple singles, as well as her debut mixtape Ghetto Superstar (2021). However, none of these releases had impressive commercial performances, and they did not appear on any charts. “Pound Town” ushered Sexyy Red into an era of success she had long been working towards. The song was released on January 27, 2023, and soon went viral on TikTok following the #PoundTownChallenge. 

A Remix With The Queen

On May 26, 2023, an official remix of “Pound Town” featuring Nicki Minaj dropped. Following its release, Minaj sent out an email to her Barbz addressing her decision to jump on the track. “I met with Sexyy Red & found her to be so down to earth and sweet. I couldn’t hear myself on this song at first but once I let go & decided to just have fun with a bad b!ch, I ended up LOVING how it came out,” she wrote. 

Naturally, a co-sign from the Queen of Rap would be a triumph for any burgeoning rapper. However, an even greater mark of her blessing is having her make a guest appearance on a track by said rapper. Nicki Minaj’s feature on “Pound Town 2” increased the song’s popularity. Equally, it brought Sexyy Red more fame, as she was recognized by a much wider audience. Subsequently, this remix became Sexyy Red’s first-ever song to appear on the charts. It peaked at number 66 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The Hottest Princess In The Hood

Sexyy Red’s second mixtape, Hood Hottest Princess, was released on June 9, 2023. It houses “SkeeYee,” the rapper’s highest-charting solo single, and one of her biggest songs. In fact, it was the inaugural chart-topper on Billboard’s  TikTok Chart. The song also peaked at number 62 on the Hot 100 chart. In addition to that, “Hellcat SRTs,” “Female Gucci Mane,” and “Born By The River,” which were released as singles, are also standouts from the mixtape. On the Billboard 200 chart, it reached number 62, becoming Sexyy Red’s first project to appear on the chart. A deluxe edition of the mixtape was released on December 1, 2023, containing 11 new tracks and features from Chief Keef, Summer Walker, G Herbo, and 42 Dugg. 

A Myriad Of Guest Appearances

In 2023, Sexyy Red established herself as a queen of remixes. The rapper made multiple guest appearances on tracks and remixes by several artists. From NLE Choppa’s “Slut Me Out” (Remix) to DaBaby’s “Shake Sumn” (Remix), Sexyy Red was everywhere this year. Her appearances on That Chick Angel’s “One Margarita (Margarita Song) [Ladies Remix],” and Young Nudy’s “Peaches & Eggplants” (Remix) are also notable. 

While Red’s features on all these tracks are worthy of note, one song in particular stands out. Drake’s “Rich Baby Daddy” ft. Sexyy Red and SZA is the rapper’s most successful song yet. It was released as the third single from Drake’s eighth studio album For All The Dogs on October 13, 2023. Subsequently, it peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and appeared in several other charts across the world. In addition to its commercial success, the song has also been praised by listeners. Sexyy Red’s hook is widely referred to as one of its most memorable parts.

That unsurprisingly left fans asking for more and Red delivered. “It’s time for me to just keep it 100 with y’all. Like, yes, they got me in this sh*t. I don’t know, I can’t get out of it. I’m getting too much money, I don’t want to get out of it,” she expanded. The comments went viral quickly as fans online speculated what she was talking about.

One of the most prevalent theories is that she was discussing some kind of secret society like the Illuminati. Since it mostly came up in jokes, Nick Cannon took the opportunity to joke about it himself on a recent episode of his podcast. “Yo, she can’t even spell Illuminati,” Cannon claimed joking at perceptions of Red as not being particularly smart. Sexyy Red Is Dropping A Deluxe Edition Of ‘Hood Hottest Princess’ And The Release Date Is Soon

Two weeks ago, Sexyy Red teased a forthcoming deluxe version of her Hood Hottest Princess album, which initially dropped in June. She posted an Instagram video showing the presumed deluxe album cover soundtracked by her rapping, “F*ck my baby dad.” (The St. Louis-bred rapper is pregnant.)

Luckily, we don’t have to wait much longer to get the full Hood Hottest Princess (Deluxe). In fact, that is a gross understatement. The album drops in less than 12 hours — at midnight, December 1.

Sexyy Red shared the tracklist on Instagram, which includes the aforementioned “Booty Meat (F My Baby Dad),” “Ghetto Princess” featuring Chief Keef, “Perfect Match” featuring 42 Dugg and G Herbo, “I Might” featuring Summer Walker, and “Hood Rats” featuring Sukihana.

Sexyy Red just wrapped her Hood Hottest Princess Tour, which spanned from October 16 to Wednesday night, November 29, at The Fillmore in San Francisco, California.

Most recently, Sexyy Red released the video for “Free My N***a.” At the beginning, Sexyy Red says to her pregnant belly, “Say ‘Free My Daddy,’” and we hear a manufactured baby’s voice say, “Free dada.” After that, Sexyy Red — in red lingerie — leads a protest to the gates of a prison and visits with her lover inside.

A Very Pregnant Sexyy Red Stages A Prison Break In Her Rebellious ‘Free My N****’ Video

Sexyy Red’s success so far has largely been an extension of her unapologetically, hilariously ratchet songs — and the videos that promote them. Her latest, “Free My N****,” is a worthy entry to the collection, continuing the tradition of not GAF and spitting memorable, tongue-in-cheek raps over a trunk-thumping beat.

In the video, the St. Louis native — who is pregnant with her second child — leads a group of marchers outside a prison, holding signs with some familiar slogans about law enforcement. Sexyy, clad in red lingerie, a dressing gown, and her signature glasses (along with that eye-catching Big Sexyy chain), shows off her baby bump while dancing atop a squad car and twerks in front of the prison phones while receiving appreciation from her incarcerated beau.

The action culminates with Sexyy disguising herself as a guard and staging a prison break — but not before what we’re forced to assume is an unauthorized conjugal visit.

“Free My N****” is ostensibly the first single from the upcoming deluxe version of her album, Hood Hottest Princess. Sexyy is presumably finishing that up once she’s wrapped her Hood Hottest Princess Tour, the final show of which is scheduled for Wednesday at The Fillmore in San Francisco.
