Issa Rae’s ‘Rap Sh!t’ Trailer Riffs On City Girls’ Twerking-Fueled Success Story

Ever since the series finale of Insecure, Issa Rae fans have waited with bated breath for her next big television project. They didn’t have to wait long; Issa and HBO announced that the multitalented creator would be crafting a show semi-based on the come-up story of Miami duo City Girls, Rap Sh!t. Today, she shared the first trailer from the show, which included a Guapdad 4000 (aka Guap) cameo. The show follows a pair of Miami strippers turned aspiring rappers named Mia and Shawna as they find fame and navigate the trouble that comes with it. Sound familiar?

Issa’s certainly accumulated her fair share of experience with the music industry — and not all of it has been good. She started her own label, Raedio, under Atlantic Records and signed her first rapper, NCognita, but also encountered the unbalanced contracts that have unfortunately become industry standard over the past few years. The experience prompted Issa to call the music industry “the worst industry I’ve ever come across,” characterizing it as “an addiction industry.” How much that will inform her depiction of the industry in Rap Sh!t remains to be seen but if the response is similar to any of her other projects, the show is sure to be a hit, even among those who don’t know the behind-the-scenes workings of the average record label. DDG Shares His Romantic ‘Storyteller’ Video And Upcoming Tour Dates

In making the leap from YouTuber to a rapper, Michigan artist DDG has proved that he has what it takes to make it in the music industry. Racking up hits like “Moonwalking In Calabasas” and “Elon Musk,” DDG worked his way into the ranks of XXL‘s 2021 Freshman Class while doing things his own way.

This year, he intends to capitalize on his growing momentum, releasing a follow-up to his fan-favorite 2017 mixtape Take Me Serious in July and hitting the road to ply his trade on the festival circuit this summer. To set the stage for both, he’s released the video for “Storyteller,” a romantic-ish single detailing a toxic situation that made him wiser — if not more forthcoming about his own shortcomings.

“Hot girls have cold hearts,” he croons on the chorus. “Deep scars make better stories / But I ain’t a storyteller.”

The Kid Laroi Performs ‘Fruit Salad’ And More With The Wiggles

The Kid Laroi lived up to the first part of his moniker last night (June 12) at his Melbourne stop on the End Of The World Tour: After performing “Tragic” with a fan, Laroi surprised attendees with none other than fellow Australia natives The Wiggles. The group joined him on stage and together they performed three songs: “Fruit Salad,” “Hot Potato,” and “Toot Toot, Chugga Chugga, Big Red Car.” The Wiggles then presented Laroi with his own personal, original Wiggles guitar.

This marks The Kid Laroi’s second time bringing out guests on the End Of The World Tour, as he surprised the Sydney crowd with local drill group Onefour and a performance of their 2020 collaboration “My City.” Now that the Australian leg is up, the BandLab NME Award winner will continue his tour with stops in Denmark and UK before returning to North America through mid-September.

The Kid Laroi last released his single “Thousand Miles” in April, his sole 2022 output since the 2021 triple disk F*ck Love 3+: Over You.

Over You featured Polo G, G Herbo, Lil Durk, Mustard and of course Justin Bieber on the smash hit “Stay.”

Post Malone Confirms His Fiancée Gave Birth To A Baby Girl And That He’s Now Engaged

We’ve known for a minute now that Post Malone is getting ready to be a father as his girlfriend is pregnant, but now there’s fresh news on that front: Malone is officially as dad, as the child, a baby girl, has arrived.

E! News confirmed the news and also noted that Malone himself spoke about it with Howard Stern. Malone was talking about heading to a studio and he noted that before he left, “I went and I kissed my baby girl.” Stern asked, “You’re referring to your girlfriend or you have a baby?” Malone answered, “Nah, that’s my daughter.”

Furthermore, in that same interview, Malone revealed he’s now engaged: Stern referred to the child’s mother as Malone’s girlfriend, but Malone corrected, “She’s my fiancée.”

It’s not yet clear when the birth or the engagement happened, as Malone has so far kept that part of his life private; He has yet to even reveal the identity of his fiancée.

In May, Malone announced he and his now-fiancée were expecting, noting, “I’m excited for this next chapter in my life, I’m the happiest I’ve ever been, and for since I could remember I was sad. Time to take care of my body and my family and friends, and spread as much love as we can every day.”

On a note related to that last sentence, Malone recently revealed he smokes about 40 or 45 cigarettes a day, sometimes going as high as 80.

Cordae Compares Himself To Ja Rule In His Insightful TED Talk

In just three years, Cordae has gone from being a relatively unknown second banana in a viral favorite rap group to an accomplished solo rapper to a Grammy nominee and renowned activist. Most new artists would be fine with working alongside Stevie Wonder and dating an international tennis superstar, but apparently, Cordae has even bigger plans. His next step appears to be “motivational speaker,” as he premieres his first-ever TED Talk about what he calls the “Hi-Level mentality,” named after his recently launched label.

Of course, he recognizes that there might not be much overlap between the crowds who regularly attend TED conferences and Rolling Loud festivals, so he lightens up the mood during his introduction with a universal joke: A reference to the infamous “Where’s Ja?” meme kicked off by Dave Chappelle back when Cordae himself was just six years old. “I know what you’re thinking,” he predicts. “What does a 24-year-old rapper possibly have to say turning a TED Talk? Like, ‘Who cares what Ja Rule thinks,’ you know?”

It turns out, he has plenty to say, recounting how his mom raised him in a series of neighborhoods so bad that her car was once stolen twice in the same week but continually upgraded to the point where such things were no longer a concern. He also details how his own discipline led to his own rise in stature in the rap business and encourages the audience to “maximize your time on this earth.”

Key Glock Has ‘No Choice’ But To Hustle In His Somber New Video

Even in the wake of Young Dolph’s passing, his protege Key Glock is carrying the torch for Paper Route Empire, continuing to support the deluxe version of his 2021 album, Yellow Tape 2. His latest release is the video for “No Choice,” which sees him return to the snowy landscape from his and Dolph’s Dum And Dummer 2 videos as he ruminates on his “hustle or die” mentality over a soulful loop. Shots of Glock on tour, rapping on stage, and even playing basketball are interspersed throughout.

The Memphis native recently gave his first interview since his mentor was shot and killed in front of a local bakery last year, detailing how Dolph’s death has affected him. “I’m maintaining,” he said. “I’m not getting better, I’m not getting worse. I’m just here right now. I can’t shake it, man. I ain’t even gonna lie. I can’t even shake it. It is what it is.”

Since then, though, he has done his best to make Dolph proud — even releasing a single on the label compilation paying tribute to their fallen leader called “Proud” — and dropped videos for “Painkillers” and “Play For Keeps,” as well as appearing in the video for Gucci Mane’s “Blood All On It,” which also featured a verse from the late Dolph.

Boldy James Says He Has A Project Produced By J Dilla On The Way: ‘I Got The Last Of The Dilla Stash’

While there are plenty of hip-hop producers who can make hits, there is one name that remains highly coveted among most others. J Dilla, the late Detroit producer responsible for classics from the likes of Common, The Roots, Janet Jackson, The Pharcyde, and more, is known for crafting timeless records; because he’s gone, though, getting a Dilla beat is a little like seeing Haley’s Comet. It’s an increasingly rare phenomenon and the recipients are considered among rap’s finest.

Detroit rapper Boldy James may soon be joining that fraternity and with more than just a beat or two. While dropping by the Trill Hip Hop Shop in Phoenix, Arizona, Boldy sat down for an interview with D-Stroy, revealing that not only has he secured some of the last Dilla beats but that he’s also releasing a full project in the near future. “I got a whole entirely produced J Dilla project that I’m about to drop,” he announced. “I would tell you the name of it, but I had to tell you that. I got the last of the Dilla stash.”

In addition to being a Detroit underground rap staple for the past decade, Boldy previously collaborated with Dilla on Rebirth Of Detroit in 2012 alongside Chuck Inglish of The Cool Kids on the song “Detroit Game.” His prior works and origin certainly make him an appropriate pick for the rapper to get the “last of the stash” as he puts it and his resume over the past few years, working with Buffalo-based indie label Griselda Records, gives him the credentials to deserve it.

Future Fans Are Sending Him Fanmail At Atlanta’s Magic City Strip Club

Magic City is an Atlanta landmark, receiving numerous shout-outs in many rappers’ songs. Among those who’ve crafted odes to the home of the famous Lou Williams lemon pepper wings are Fivio Foreign and Quavo, who dropped “Magic City” earlier this year, and local heroes like Jeezy (“Magic City Monday”) and Future (“Magic”).

In fact, the latter has become so closely associated with the strip club, that fans have apparently begun sending him fan mail there, addressed to Nayvadius Wilburn, his government name. The club’s Instagram profile posted a photo of some of the letters, joking in the caption: “Come pick up your mail Mr. Owner!” Future himself responded in the comments: “on my way soon.”

The caption is probably a jokey reference to Future’s verse on 42 Dugg’s “Maybach,” on which he raps, “Magic City, I’m the owner / Tell Steve Harvey I don’t want her.” The line is also referenced in the account’s bio.

While Future may not actually be the club’s owner, he’s certainly given it plenty of new music for its employees to ply their trade. His new album I Never Liked You is out now featuring songs like “Puffin On Zootiez” and “Keep It Burning,” which helped lift it to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 — something he’ll surely be happy to celebrate with a trip to the club.

Roddy Ricch Led A ‘F*ck The NYPD’ Chant At Hot 97 Summer Jam After Being Arrested On Gun Charges

The NYPD has never been the most popular organization with rappers and their fans but over the weekend, the New York Police Department incensed one rapper in particular ahead of his set at Hot 97 Summer Jam. Roddy Ricch, who released his second album Live Life Fast to close out 2021, was scheduled to perform at both Governors Ball on Saturday and Summer Jam on Sunday but was forced to miss out on the former when he was arrested over a loaded firearm that was found in his vehicle at a security checkpoint.

According to New York Daily News, Roddy’s charges were quickly dismissed along with those of one of the other two men who were also arrested with him. The third, Michael Figueroa of Brooklyn, New York, was arraigned on Sunday — according to the report, it appears his gun caused all the trouble.

Although Roddy avoided serious charges, he clearly didn’t enjoy his brush with the law or being forced to miss a performance. When he took the stage at Summer Jam, he made sure to let the crowd know how he felt, leading a “f*ck the NYPD” chant during his set. You can check out the video below.
