SOCIALizing: Nicki Minaj Shades Atlantic Records Layoffs: “UPS is Hiring”

image

Nicki Minaj took her pettiness to new heights. The Pink Friday rapper gave zero F’s when she took to social media on Thursday (Sept. 19) to clown the recent layoffs of staffers at Atlantic Records.

Get this, Minaj’s longtime rival Cardi B is signed there, along with several other artists. Notably Cardi usually doesn’t express much love for her label so not sure if it was a shot at Cardi or not.

Anyways, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), Minaj wrote, “Dear fired executives & A&Rs: Don’t be mad, UPS is hiring,” while also promoting her own record label, Heavy On It. She followed up with another jab, stating, “They’ve been wanting empty arenas so bad. Obsessed with me while all your friends r getting fired is nasty work.”

ICYMI, these remarks came shortly after the announcement of significant layoffs at Atlantic Records and its sister label 300 Elektra, as part of a larger restructuring effort across the music industry. Warner Music Group, Atlantic’s parent company, had already seen the departure of high-ranking executives, including Julie Greenwald, who stepped down as chairwoman in August, and Kevin Liles, who left 300 Elektra earlier this month.

Here’s how they gave the staff the bad news. In an internal memo, Atlantic Music Group CEO Robert Kyncl addressed the layoffs, saying, “As part of this reorganization, we will unfortunately be saying goodbye to talented people.” He expressed gratitude for the contributions of departing staff, adding, “You’ve made an indelible mark on this company and the careers of the extraordinary artists you’ve championed.”

What’s more, several key executives from 300 Elektra, including Margo Scott (EVP/general counsel), Chris Brown (EVP), Katie Robinson (head of marketing), and Adam Abramson (sales/streaming chief), are among those impacted by the restructuring.

Petty season is here. We thought it was spooky season. Guess not.

4Batz And Lil Baby ‘Roll Da Dice’ On Romance In Their Smooth New Video

Mysterious crooner 4Batz draws Atlanta trap mainstay Lil Baby out from hiatus on his new single, “Roll Da Dice.” In the video, which went live 12 hours after the single’s release, the unlikely duo literally play a game of craps between shots of their amorous efforts. The song is a mellow banger on which the two artists sing the praises of a romantic interest.

4Batz is coming off his headlining Thank U, Jada tour after releasing his debut mixtape, U Made Me A St4r. His meteoric rise may have been driven by the mystery surrounding his relationship with Drake after the OVO founder’s appearance on 4Batz’s breakout single, “Date @ 8,” but since then, he’s worked overtime to prove he earned it.

Lil Baby, meanwhile, has had kind of a quiet 2024, stepping away from social media at the end of 2023 until his album is finished. Since then, he’s only appeared on a handful of big releases, including Central Cee’s “Band4Band” and Tay B’s “All Ten.” Fans waiting on a follow-up to his 2022 album It’s Only Me have certainly had time to build up an appetite to find out where “Crazy” and “350” — Baby’s last-released singles — will end up.

You can watch 4Batz and Lil Baby’s video for “Roll Da Dice” above.

Elliott Wilson Tells A Bizarre Diddy Story About Mogul’s Interest In Tupac Shakur

The recent arrest of Diddy has a lot of folks looking back at his history under a different lens, and it’s important to note how damaging this can be. After all, the current scandal around accusations of human trafficking, racketeering, and more against him might misinform or wrongly characterize a lot of previous unrelated incidents. But that’s not the only controversy affecting Sean Combs. Apart from those allegations and supposed crimes, he also faces rumors that he was responsible for the murder of Tupac Shakur. On this note, Elliott Wilson recently told a bizarre story about the Bad Boy mogul on HipHopDX‘s The Bigger Picture program, looking back on an interaction he had with him.

As Wilson explains, he “never had a good rapport” with Diddy due to XXL‘s interview with Shyne after the 1999 club shooting which many believe the executive framed the former Bad Boy rapper for. Elliott Wilson was XXL‘s editor-in-chief at the time. However, he explained that – around the time of the Money Making Mitch mixtape in 2015 – the New York businessman reached out to him and suggested that he’d be down to talk about “some real s**t” for an interview.

Elliott Wilson Details Strange Diddy Interaction

“I was kicking it with him for a day or two on-and-off, just talking to him and stuff,” Elliot Wilson said of Diddy. “He acted like he finally wanted to give me an interview. I remember he said to me, he goes, ‘You gotta ask me some real s**t. You gotta ask me if I killed Tupac.’ And then he walked out of the room. [He] didn’t say it in a way like, ‘I did it.’ He said it in a way of almost like, ‘I want this moment of redemption, of me explaining the situation.’ That’s how I took it, but maybe I’m wrong.”

Nevertheless, Elliott Wilson also revealed “that was probably the last time [he] saw [Diddy],” so he ever got to ask the question. As for the Tupac murder case, Keefe D is currently facing trial and has been charged with his murder. His accusations that Combs offered him money to carry out the hit have not only never been confirmed, but outright denied by Puff.

Latto & Mariah The Scientist Send Fans Into Frenzy After Discussing Their Relationships

Latto and Mariah The Scientist were the most recent guests on Angel Reese’s Unapologetically Angel podcast, and their tea spillage raised a lot of fans’ eyebrows. Let’s start with the latter, who’s in a very public relationship with Young Thug. The basketball star asked her if she finds it hard to stay connected with Thugger amid his prison time and ongoing RICO trial. “So, I be going to court…” the singer replied while acknowledging how long-distance it feels. “Sometimes I fall asleep in there. But I just go to [breathe] his air. […] He’s been locked up now for longer than we was in a relationship before he got locked up.”

However, Mariah The Scientist also elaborated on her remarks in The Shade Room‘s comments section after they shared a clip of the podcast. “FYI, I see what y’all be saying…” she wrote, responding to criticism of how she’s handled her relationship with Young Thug while in he’s in jail. “Nobody wakes up and hopes to have to see somebody they love in court or at a jail every day. Just chill on the judgement. Maybe u would understand if u were in my shoes but I won’t wish that on you. In fact, I’m very optimistic for my own situation.”

“I’ma have my [marriage] in secret,” Latto continued. “Especially just because how they handle my situation too… I just be like, well, since y’all know so much, I’ma make sure you know nothing.” We’ll see whether she and Mariah The Scientist reveal any more about their romantic lives in the near future.

Method Man Says There Is No Correlation Between Diddy’s Downfall And Hip-Hop Culture

Method Man and Diddy have been peers in the East Coast hip-hop scene for over 30 years. Meth, along with Wu-Tang Clan, helped further a street-oriented style of hip-hop that sounded as rough as Staten Island was in the 1990s. Diddy was the man behind Bad Boy Records, whose star MC, The Notorious B.I.G., helped advance the commercial viability of hip-hop with a formula of radio-ready records and deep cuts that rappers still follow today. Meth and Big even did a track together on Ready To Die, called “The What.” On Thursday afternoon, TMZ asked Method Man about Diddy’s ongoing downfall. The interviewer asked if it was something that could damage hip hop culture. Meth pushed back against the notion, imploring fans to draw a line between one man’s behavior and the rest of the genre.

“I don’t think that it has anything to do with hip hop,” Method Man told TMZ. “What are we talking about here, really?” The reporter tried to claim that Diddy’s influence may make it hard for some non-listeners to make a separation between him and the rest of hip-hop. “It has nothing to do with hip hop,” he asserted. “I don’t see the correlation.” The Wu-Tang rapper then drew a parallel between Diddy and R Kelly’s crimes, adding that there are still a number of people who listen to Kelly’s music.

Method Man Addresses Claim That Diddy’s Actions Will Have Negative Effects On Hip-Hop

The internet agreed with Method Man’s assertion. Many comments pointed to the power dynamic between Diddy and his alleged victims. Diddy has long been one of the most powerful men in entertainment. Artists who’ve spoken out against him have had their careers negatively affected. Others called out the quality of the question. “He ready to get home to Mrs. Smith. That man ain’t got time for foolishness,” said one user. “Did the Harvey Weinstein situation threaten the end of Hollywood? How does this question even make sense?” asked another.

Diddy was arrested on Monday night, following a lengthy investigation that began when ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura sued him for domestic abuse. Footage of Diddy physically assaulting Ventura leaked to TMZ earlier in the summer. The Department of Homeland Security raided his residences in Miami and Los Angeles in March. The courts recently denied bail to the disgraced mogul, who pleaded not guilty to charges of racketeering and sex trafficking. He proposed a bail package that included one of his houses and his mother’s home. He will remain in jail until his trial begins. A date hasn’t been set yet.

Donald Trump Insinuates Kamala Harris Participated In Diddy’s “Freak Offs” With Fake Photo

Following Diddy’s arrest and indictment this week, Donald Trump took to Truth Social to go after Kamala Harris. The former president reposted a fake photo of the Vice President standing next to Diddy, except the original photo actually featured her ex, Montel Williams. The caption questions whether or not she’s ever taken part in one of Diddy’s “freak offs.”

Diddy’s aforementioned indictment describes these freak offs as “elaborate and produced sex performances that Combs arranged, directed, masturbated during, and often electronically recorded.” The undoctored version of the photo of Harris and Williams has surfaced in the past, prompting Trump’s supporters to accuse her of using celebrities for clout.

Donald Trump Uses Diddy Arrest To Throw Jabs At Kamala Harris

This is far from the first time Trump has spread false narratives about Harris’ personal life, however. Last month, he also shared a video accusing her of exchanging oral sex for political power. While his insinuations are certainly upsetting, they don’t necessarily come as a surprise. As for Diddy and his legal battle, he’s been charged with “racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, and transportation to engage in prostitution” according to TMZ.

If convicted, the Bad Boy Records founder faces a minimum sentence of 15 years and a maximum of life. He was denied pre-trial release on bail for a second time earlier this week. What do you think of Donald Trump sharing a fake photo of Kamala Harris and Diddy? What about him questioning whether or not she attended any of his alleged freak offs? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Young Dolph Trial’s Prosecutors Catch Heat For Only Trying One Of Three Suspects

The murder trial of Young Dolph just got a bizarre update, as it seems like only one of three suspects charged with his murder will stand trial on Monday, September 23. According to FOX 13 Memphis, this announcement came from a spokesperson for the Shelby County Criminal Court Clerk’s Office, and they clarified that Justin Johnson (one of the alleged gunmen) will begin trial. However, many folks expressed outrage as to why the other two suspects will not begin their trial as well, despite the fact that the court scheduled them to appear on the same day. Moreover, the other suspects are the attack’s alleged mastermind Hernandez Govan and alleged gunman Cornelius Smith.

FOX 13 attempted to clarify this development with the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office on whether or not this will be one trial, multiple proceedings, and why the other two suspects will apparently not be tried starting Monday by prosecutors. On multiple occasions, the D.A.’s office reportedly stated that they could not answer their questions due to a risk of compromising a current investigation into Young Dolph’s murder. Johnson and Smith face charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder among others, whereas Govan faces a first-degree murder charge and a conspiracy to commit first-degree murder charge.

Furthermore, this is similar to the reasoning that prosecutors used last month to explain why they refused to clarify whether or not Govan would face trial alongside Johnson and Smith. The latter duo remains behind bars, and they have for over two years now. Govan, on the other hand, saw release in 2023 on bond. Elsewhere, a fourth suspect in Young Dolph’s murder, Justin Johnson’s brother Jermarcus, pleaded guilty to three counts of accessory after the fact in 2023 and has yet to receive his sentence.

Meanwhile, Young Dolph’s loved ones continue to honor his life and legacy. “Today I will live in gratitude, celebrating & cherishing every single memory we created in life together…” his partner Mia Jaye recently shared via Instagram on what would’ve been his 39th birthday. “Thank you for every lesson you taught us, sacrifice you made for us and for the beautiful spirit you graced the world with… May we continue to feel your presence through your absence… and may our eternal love reach you where your spirit resides… Happy Heavenly Birthday my love…”
