Mary J. Blige is currently on a hell of a run. Fresh off the Super Bowl stage, MJB is headed to the NBA All-Star Saturday Night stage and has a new album. Speaking about the album, the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul visited the Breakfast Club and talked about the album, specifically the single “Rent Money.”

While speaking with Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy, MJB revealed: “Rent Money” is literally about paying overhead while facing alimony that she was forced to pay her ex-husband, who ran through her money.

“I wrote that song with the writers during that time,” Blige revealed. “I had to pay all this alimony, and I had no money to pay it. I had to go on tour to pay it. I had to go on tour to pay the alimony. I had to go on tour to pay the rent because he had spent all the money. By the time I got to the deposition and saw everything he did, I didn’t have a dollar left. He spent everything. He knew he spent everything and was asking me for more.”

She added, “‘Rent Money’ is about a vacancy.”

Charlamagne asked for clarification if it was industry broke or nothing. Mary J. Blige clarified that it wasn’t enough to pay the overhead, so she had to work for it.

Ben Baller in No Rush To Create YE a Chain After How He Dissed Kid Cudi

Ben Baller Offers Kanye a Chain Ultimatum Over Kid Cudi Feud TMZ 0 10 screenshot

Over the weekend, Kanye West said he was done working with Kid Cudi after the latter would not cut his ties to Pete Davidson, a friend of several years. YE’s decision would cut Cudi from being a participant in DONDA 2, which he didn’t seem to care about.

In the development of the new beef, YE’s decision has put him on thin ice with celebrity jewelry designer Ben Baller. The jewelry designer was caught in traffic by TMZ and he revealed that YE asked for him to create a dove chain, but he brushed it off.

“He’s wanted a chain for a while. Cudi hit me up about it,” Baller said. “I talk to Cudi almost every day. He was like, ‘Hey man, Kanye wants your phone number. He wants to get this chain done.’ Then he had one of his employees reach out to me and then he had Justin LaBoy reach out to me. Then I ran into him the other day and I was kinda like, ‘I don’t know, I’m busy.’”

A wise decision to brush off YE? Let us know what you think.

Spotify Launches ‘Abolition X’ Podcast Hosted by Vic Mensa, Indigo Mateo, and Richie Reseda

Spotify Launches 'Abolition X' Podcast Hosted by Vic Mensa, Indigo Mateo, and Richie Reseda

Abolition X, a new podcast from Spotify, will investigate many pathways of abolition and provide a forum for voices at the vanguard of the anti-violence movement.

Vic Mensa and Indigo Mateo, as well as producer, abolitionist-feminist organizer, and former felon Richie Resheda, will host a conversation with special guests and activists including Larry Hoover Jr., Patrisse Cullors, Meek Mill, JT from City Girls, Bobby Shmurda, and more.

The purpose of Abolition X is to help establish a society based on togetherness by replacing a revenge-centered mindset. The show imagines a world where vengeance isn’t justice, where community needs are served and harm is remedied via accountability; it focuses on alternatives to police, jails, and punishment. The hosts will explore the impact of abolition on everything from hip-hop to housing and more throughout the episode.

Richie, Indigo, Vic, and their guest, inmate JJ 88, relate their experiences of how they became abolitionists in the series premiere, recalling the atrocities they witnessed as children that opened their eyes to the concept that punishment does not force people to be accountable.

In addition, the program delves into mental health, which is crucial to how we treat ourselves and one other. Patrisse Cullors, co-founder of Black Lives Matter and author, joins the crew to discuss if investing in mental health can keep our communities safe.

You can hear the first episode below.
