Drake’s OVO Clothing Brand Collabs With Yale University For Merch Drop

Despite all the so called ambiguity around Drake post rap beef and all that jazz, his brand seems to still moving forward. Specifically, Drizzy’s clothing brand, October’s Very Own (OVO), just dropped a collaboration with Yale University for a limited-edition merchandise collection. Where can you find it? Well, it’s out now and available both in-store at the Yale Bookstore and online at the OVO website.

Get this, the collection includes four items, with the “Campus Varsity Jacket” being the priciest at $678, while the “Campus T-shirt” and “Campus Sportcap” are priced at $68 each.

Not too bad. Just depends on your tastes when it comes to these type of capsule collections.

Here’s what Deron Michael, general merchandising manager at the Yale Bookstore, said about the collection, breaking down how it caters to a youthful, urban aesthetic: “Drake is all about hip-hop, and the kids love hip-hop, so it’s really catering to the aesthetic that the kids are looking for: oversized, urban flare, eye-catchy.” The collaboration was made possible through Barnes and Noble College, which operates the Yale Bookstore.

Now despite the high price tag, although we doubt most Yale students are worried about that part, Michael noted the collection’s growing popularity since its launch on September 20, stating, “Like any other expensive brands we have as well, nothing goes off the shelves, but it’s catching eyes, and the pieces that he created are eye-catching and really nice.” The bookstore has already sold one jacket, several hoodies, and a few shirts.

A key component to making this happen was a green light from Yale’s department of marketing and trademark licensing. They approved the use of the Yale logo for the OVO collection, according to Paul Murawski, director of the department. The collection marks a significant collaboration between the Ivy League school and a popular cultural brand, following Drake’s previous mention of Yale in his 2011 track “Make Me Proud.”

Interestingly, Matt Letourneau, a Yale student and campus manager for Fresh Prints, believes the collection will appeal more to alumni than students, due to its high price point. He noted, “I think that it’s good for Yale’s brand to appeal to pop culture like that. I think it’s a smart step for Yale because it offers a reputable designer that they know people are going to like here at school.”

Oh but wait, Yale isn’t the only higher education to benefit from the collab with OVO. In addition to Yale, OVO has released similar collections for Stanford, the University of Cambridge, the University of Toronto, and the University of Western Ontario. While Barnes and Noble is facilitating the sale of OVO merchandise at Yale, other schools have received apparel from Travis Scott’s “Jack Goes Back to College” collection, which was released earlier this year. However, Scott’s collection, which includes a wider range of items, did not feature any Ivy League schools.

As you can expect, OVO’s “Campus Varsity Jacket” and “Campus Fleece Hoodie” from the University of Western Ontario collection have already sold out online, reflecting strong demand for the brand’s university-themed collaborations.

Looks like it’s business as usual for OVO and feels like they’re winning on this front.

From Vision to Reality: The Creation of The Don Pant

Hudson’s career is built on pushing boundaries, a trait that guided him while creating The Don Pant. When asked about his inspiration behind the project, Hudson explained, “There are some good pants out there, but not great. The main component of these garments, the fabric, was not accomplishing enough for the wearer. So, we set out to rectify that.”

The journey to create The Don Pant was a three-year process, driven by the desire to craft a garment that would perform at a high level while maintaining a refined aesthetic. Hudson’s team built the fabric from the ground up, emphasizing both versatility and function. “We knew we wanted this fabric to not just look refined but perform at a high level, which is part of the activewear roots of Fabletics.”

Hudson’s designs have always been more than just clothing—they’re a mindset. The Don Pant was developed with this philosophy in mind, catering to individuals with ambition and drive. As Hudson put it, the design is made for “shot-callers, hustlers, and dreamers.” He further elaborates, “When you are truly tapped in and focused on whatever goal you are trying to achieve, the last sensation you want to feel is of being slowed down or held back.”

For Hudson, it’s all about empowering the wearer. “A minor spill during the movement of my day won’t stop me in my tracks,” he said, underscoring how the design meets the demands of a busy, ambitious lifestyle.

The project offered multiple “ah-ha!” moments, which Hudson and his team embraced. These discoveries not only shaped the pant itself but also opened new avenues for future designs. “We are excited to continue to expound, not only on how he and she dresses, but also how they experience the garments,” he added, hinting at what’s to come from Fabletics under his creative direction.

Stevie Wonder announces today that he will be playing select dates in October, at the height of a critical election season and a pivotal juncture in American politics and culture, in a call for “joy over anger, kindness over recrimination, peace over war.” The 25-time GRAMMY winner – whose other accolades include an Academy Award, and a Presidential Medal of Freedom among countless other honors – will do ten performances across the nation this October.

Red Bull unveils full details of the anticipated U.S. return of Red Bull SoundClash, the unique live concert experience featuring two artists competing across opposite stages, with the audience deciding the winner. This November, Red Bull will bring fans a Spanish-language SoundClash event series making stops in Los Angeles and Chicago, two cities synonymous with rich Mexican culture and community. Headlined by Chicano singer-songwriter DannyLux vs. Mexican MC Tornillo, Red Bull SoundClash marks the artists first-ever live collaboration in which they will reprise iconic hits, deliver unexpected covers, and celebrate the evolution of Mexican music and cumbia.

Red Bull SoundClash is a once-in-a-lifetime live musical experience which sees artists pushed to their creative, collaborative, and improvisational limits across multiple performance rounds. On his latest album, Glasper splits the difference between jazz and hip-hop, emphasizing their shared genetics. Code Derivation is largely comprised of two versions of the same track, one played live in studio by Glasper’s band and a version “flipped” by a producer of his choosing.

“Jazz is literally in the beginning-bones of hip hop,” Glasper tells Apple Music. “That’s why I even used the word derivation, because it’s a derivative of jazz. I’ve played with the masters of both of these genres so I wanted to do a project where it’s like, ‘Hey, I’m going to do jazz songs that I wrote with my band—with my friends—and I’m going to get dope producers that are my friends to sample me.’”

On the band side of things, that includes names like Walter Smith III, Mike Moreno, Kendrick Scott, Vicente Archer and Keyon Harrold, with an additional feature from Marcus Strickland. On the production side, Glasper has called on some of his likewise favorite friends and collaborators, people like Hi-Tek, Black Milk, Taylor McFerrin, Kareem Riggins, and the one guest Glasper would be hard pressed to deny as his favorite of the bunch, his son Riley. On the MC front, Glasper’s called on acts like Beaumont, Texas-hailing Jamari (a frequent collaborator of his son), Minneapolis’ MMYYKK, and Brooklyn-born Oswin Benjamin, young rhymers who Glasper says became the project’s pièce de résistance. 

This weekend, Glasper will join Blue Note Entertainment Group and Black Radio Productions as Artist in Residence at The Black Radio Experience at The Meritage Resort & Spa in Napa Valley, CA. Inspired by Glasper’s annual Robtober residency at the Blue Note in NYC, The Black Radio Experience is an immersive journey into the soul of music, transcending boundaries and celebrating the rich tapestry of Black culture. Headliners across the 3 day weekend event include John Legend, Jill Scott and Andre 3000, and performances by Andra Day, Common, Nile Rodgers, Ledisi, Terrace Martin and more including daily performances from Glasper himself.

The Weeknd – the global superstar who first captivated audiences on YouTube more than a decade ago and boasts more than 35 million subscribers to his channel to date – will make a triumphant return to the platform on September 7th for a one-night-only livestream concert experience from the sold-out Estádio MorumBIS in São Paulo, Brazil. 

The visually stunning teaser – directed by YZA Voku – offers a compelling preview of a new song and features a series of AI-generated images by Google: Veo, Midjourney, Runway: Gen-3 and Luma: Dream Machine. 

A Rare Musical Experience

After a sold-out global tour spanning the past two years, The Weeknd has become renowned for his visually stunning performances and boundary-pushing artistry. With groundbreaking production, his upcoming São Paulo show promises to be one of his most electrifying concerts yet. Announced just weeks ago, this highly anticipated performance is expected to feature chart-topping hits and potentially offer a glimpse into what’s next for the artist.

Alongside the monumental show, The Weeknd will also donate 10% of net proceeds from all merchandise sales at the event and online to the Brazilian Soul Fund of BrazilFoundation. These funds will directly support communities in Brazil affected by natural disasters and economic hardships, with a focus on helping the most vulnerable families in southern Brazil recover and rebuild their lives after the devastating floods.

SOURCE SPORTS: Why Fanatics Fest Will Be Premiere Event For The Future Hip Hop Generation

This past weekend, sports fans flocked to NYC’s Jacob Javits Convention Center by the thousands, present to experience the first immersive and interactive sports convention of its type and most of them brought little ones. Parents brought their kids, uncles and aunties brought their nieces and nephews because it was well promoted that there would be activities for the children. What wasn’t promoted was that Hip Hop stars spanning generations would be schmoozing among the sports legends at this monumental event.

The three-day festival started on Friday, with exhibitions for fans of all sports, including a full UFC ring situated near the entrance. Hundreds of booths for sports memorabilia sale and trade, such as a box of Wheaties signed by Michael Jordan worth $5,500 to a baseball signed by Hall Of Fame legends Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb worth $300K. If you were a young autograph seeker looking to score some iconic signatures, there were HOFers from all sports like Giants legend Lawrence Taylor, Mets ’86 World Series champions Dwight Gooden and Dwight Strawberry, NBA stars Jalen Rose, Kevin Durant, Jalen Brunson, Walt Frazier, Julius “Dr. J” Irving, wrestling legend Hulk Hogan and even controversial sportscaster Stephen A. Smith were all present.

There were literally millions of sports and collectible cards(Pokemon, Garbage Pail Kids, etc.) being bought, traded, sold and given away at Fanatics Fest. There were also panel discussions for those interested in the engaging conversations surrounding sports culture with titles “Courtside Conversations” and “The Ultimate Fantasy Draft” while several live podcasts were underway via radio and internet.

There were too many live sports activations to name, from MLB’s simulated Playball Park, where the kids got their chance to get hit a couple of homers, to the NBA hoops, which seemed to be full to capacity the entire weekend. Soccer and hockey goals, boxing/punching bag challenges, mini football fields wrestling rings and everything in between filled up the ground level of the Javits Center. Children were the main participants in these activations, but their parents and guardians seemed to have their focus on something more than just the sports fanatic’s fantasy.

On any given day, music could be heard throughout the convention center, but the front of the temporary club bearing the name “40/40 Club” could only be seen from a rear entrance that only permitted press and celebrities. Those who really wanted to see what all of the camera flashing was about waited on the side near the food court to catch a peep of the celebs headed for the red carpet. The kids saw some of their favorite personalities dip into The 40/40 Club, the exclusive sports bar/nightclub founded by Jay-Z in the early 2000s in midtown Manhattan. This activation in the Javits Center was created in conjunction with Fanatics Sportsbook, who kicked off the entire event. Quavo of The Migos, Lil Baby were spotted going into the invite only club, while Travis Scott was even seen signing a pair of his own Nike Travis Scott sneakers for a young fan before falling in the spot. That’s what Fanatics Fest is all about.

The OGs got to spot some of their favs including Fat Joe, DJ Khaled, comedian Michael Blackson and even more come in the spot. The most notable was, of course, Jay-Z himself making an appearance at the club created in his honor, causing such a ruckus that fans on the opposite side of the entrance were trying to sneak a pic of Hov, whose sighting continued to fuel rumors that he will be opening a new 40/40 Club complete with casinos.

With just as many Hip Hop stars making cameo appearances at this exclusive sports event, it’s a guarantee that next year many of the attendees will pull up looking for their favorite rapper rather than their favorite ball player. FanaticsFest was a successful example of how sports and music culture aren’t far removed from each other and when it comes to entertainment, all you can do is give the people who and what they want.
