Benny The Butcher Expects More Rappers To Thank Griselda For Their Careers

The rap game wouldn’t be what it is today without Griselda, according to Benny The Butcher. Though it’s hard to deny that the rise of lyricism is largely due to the Buffalo-based collective’s efforts, Benny believes that more rappers need to be giving them their respect. The sound that emerged from the golden age of rap made a resurgence due to Griselda’s efforts and a lot of rappers were able to make a career because of it. In Benny The Butcher’s opinion, he, Westside Gunn, and Conway deserve all of the flowers.

“These n***as been putting out tapes, and a lot of these n***as been doing their shit, but Griselda is still the standard. We inspire these n***as. We made these n***as believe they can build this shit. These n***as ain’t think they could do it,” he said during his PSA. Benny The Butcher continued to explain that a lot of artists failed to be as persistent as them and eventually, gave up. However, he said that changed once Griselda came out.

Benny The Butcher Doesn’t Think Griselda Gets Its Dues

Once again, Benny reiterated that Griselda set a standard in rap that a lot of artists aspire to reach. “These n***as gave up. You telling them, ‘Nah, fight.’ Ain’t nothing wrong with inspiring n***as. I’m just saying y’all, back to Griselda being the standard. Griselda is the fucking standard. I don’t be hearing thank you from these n***as. These n***as be saying everything, but fucking thank you. I wanna start hearing thank you’s from these n***as man,” he said.

Benny The Butcher is arguably the most vocal artist out of the Griselda clique. Though Westside Gunn and Conway The Machine have echoed similar comments, Benny recently made a similar statement when they were excluded from B. Dot’s best rappers list of 2022. He made it clear that the list couldn’t be an accurate reflection of rap, especially as each artist on the label continued their prolific run. We’ll keep you posted on any more updates surrounding Benny’s grievances with his rap peers. Do you think Griselda deserves more credit? Sound off in the comments.

Boldy James Drops New Album “Indiana Jones” Amid Car Crash Recovery

Even though he recently suffered a nasty car crash, one of hip-hop’s most prolific artists is still delivering. Moreover, Boldy James just shared his new collaborative project with producer RichGains, Indiana Jones. Furthermore, the adventurous new album reflects the Detroit MC’s ability to match his energy with any beat he faces.

When the world learned of a car crash that left Boldy in critical condition, many reached out with their condolences. However, no one could’ve guessed that a brand new project would land in listeners’ laps this week. In fact, they were probably too busy worrying about his other release this week. Moreover, he dropped a physical-only EP with frequent collaborator Real Bad Man on Monday (January 16).

Meanwhile, Indiana Jones sees Bo engaging with more contemporary trap production and grander instrumental pallets. While his work in the genres of drumless, boom-bap, and coke rap is monumental, he aims to impress with each release. Still, this new album is one of his most refreshing yet, even considering his incredible 2022 run. Moreover, he released five albums from December 2021 to December 2022, and this is practically a sixth entry in that feat. Furthermore, with each new drop (which seems to happen every other Friday now), Boldy cements his status as one of the best today.

However, what did you think of Boldy James’ new album with RichGains, Indiana Jones? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments and check out the tracklist down below. Also, if you haven’t given it a spin, you can find the tape on your preferred streaming service. Still, as always, stay tuned to HNHH for the greatest new music releases each week.

Boldy James In Stable Condition After Car Crash

Boldy James is in stable condition after he crashed in the Detroit metropolitan area on Monday (January 9th). Moreover, news of his accident broke on Saturday via a press release, which has circulated on social media. As such, many fans and outlets poured out their sympathies for the Detroit MC, who sought to dominate 2022. He wrapped up a fantastic year with December’s Be That As It May, a collaborative project with Italian producer Cuns.

“On Monday, January 9th, Boldy James was involved in a serious two-car accident in the Detroit metropolitan area,” the statement read. “I can confirm that Boldy arrived at the hospital in critical condition, suffering from broken vertebrae in his neck and orthopedic injuries.” After undergoing an arduous neck surgery, medics removed him from intensive care in a stable condition.

“Boldy and his family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses that are taking care of him,” it continued, “and also to the communities’ emergency medical personnel and first responders.”

While the 40-year-old MC hasn’t spoken on the accident, it’s heartening to hear the bad news didn’t get worse. In fact, it’s odd to think that while he received treatment, fans were excited about his upcoming physical-only EP. Also, it’s another collaboration with Real Bad Man, with whom he dropped Killing Nothing back in May.

Moreover, he released five producer collaborations from December 2021 to December 2022, a feat of a run. It all began with Super Tecmo Bo, his third team-up with The Alchemist. Throughout that 12-month timespan, James delivered some of the year’s best verses most cohesive sonic pallets on any 2022 album. Still, he makes it all look so easy with a calm and collected flow and mindset. We hope he has the support he needs as he recovers.

What are you looking forward to from Boldy James after he recovers from his car accident? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments down below and join us in wishing Bo a speedy recovery. Also, as always, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news from one of the game’s best current MCs.

Westside Gunn Abruptly Cancels European Tour

While the post-pandemic concert scene is raking in big numbers for your favorite artists, not all shows are as lucky. Westside Gunn just abruptly canceled his European tour leg, with thousands of fans left in shock. Moreover, he planned to begin the tour last Friday (January 13th), but he canceled the whole run on Thursday. As one of the best rappers of the year in 2022, many were surely ecstatic to see the Flygod live.

Via Instagram in a since-deleted post, Gunn spoke to supporters and fans and explained the bad news.

“It was nothing more I wanted to do than to start seeing my supporters around the world. It’s def still a dream and I’m gonna work on it immed to still make it happen, unfortunately this time things weren’t handled right and that’s too far for me to be gone.”

Furthermore, the Buffalo rapper said he lost $50K on plane tickets. Also, he said that “something isn’t right and I’m somewhere I’ve never been,” which is vague but might refer to behind-the-scenes logistics. Unfortunately, he clarified that he’s also unable to provide ticket refunds himself, as he never took deposits. “Ppl out of $40 I’m out 50,000 I spent just on plane tickets!!!” he wrote.

“So I lost but GOD IS THE GREATEST and hopefully one day I’ll see everybody who’s reading this one day in life,” he continued. “I’m the number 1 guy for our lane who pushes the culture but if it’s not right we gotta make it right and unfortunately this situation doesn’t have the time to fix.”

Fortunately, some venues have already responded to Gunn’s cancellation with open arms and open minds, despite the frustration. Dublin venue The Sugar Club wrote a message to fans concerning the canceled show.

“We’re currently awaiting an official update from Westside Gunn’s agent on the status of the tour,” they stated. “But we will of course process refunds for all tickets purchased as soon as we have more information. We hope to resolve this by the end of the day.”

Meanwhile, the recently announced rap retiree continued his post with an apology to fans.

“I have somebody working on me coming out soon now and if u ever hear about me coming again from me it’s Valid!!!!” he wrote. “So get those tickets and I promise u I’ll make it up…

“But again to all my supporters I love y’all and if u spent that ticket price your blessings will come back 10fold,” he concluded. “Just know if u don’t get your money back I don’t have it. And again I REPEAT I can’t give u money back I NEVER got paid I’m down 50k of my own money.”

What do you think of Westside Gunn canceling his European tour? Moreover, were you excited to go to one of those shows yourself? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments down below. Also, as always, check back in with HNHH for the latest hip-hop news, both on and off stages.

Westside Gunn And Benny The Butcher Call Out B.Dot For Being Left Off Of Best Rappers Of 2022 List

westside gunn & benny the butcher

As always, Brian “B.Dot” Miller was once again able to ruffle the feathers of members of the hip-hop community with his Best Rappers of 2022 list. The list included Pusha T, Gucci Mane, and J.Cole taking the top 3 spots, and Kendrick Lamar, JID, 21 Savage, Kodak Black, Drake, Ransom, and Lil Wayne occupying the rest of the spots. B.Dot says that the list is based on skill, performance, and presence.

However, the list caught the attention of Griselda Records front-men, Westside Gunn and Benny The Butcher, who were not happy about their exclusion from the list despite having dropped projects this year.

Westside Gunn and a few other members of Griselda, including Stove God Cooks and Rome Streetz had sat down with B.Dot and Elliot Wilson for an episode of Rap Radar prior to the list coming out. However, after the list came out, Westside Gunn came out and called the interview a waste of time.

“This was a great interview but that was some weeks ago, now it’s F*CK @bdotTM bc he just don’t get it & I wasted 2hrs of my time[.]” Westside Gunn wrote. “its @GriseldaRecords ALL YEAR[.] S/O to my guy @ElliottWilson he still good he rode thru the hood w/me in the Bach.”

Benny The Butcher was also critical of being left off the list. A Twitter user asked the Tana Talk 4 artist if he thought the whole Griselda roster being left off the list was because of a bar Conway The Machine rapped about B.Dot. The user said that it’s corny if that’s the reason they were left off. Benny then confirmed that it was due to the bar and he had a run-in with one of B.Dot’s “rap friends.”

“Def tht and I had a brush in with 1 of his rap friends lol,” Benny responded.

In another response to a fan on Twitter, Benny said that B.Dot has to be eating crack to not add him or anybody from the Griselda roster to the list. “F*ck smokin crack he gotta be Eatin it,” he said.

Westside Gunn Says He Will Wrap His Rap Career At the End of 2023

Westside Gunn Says He Will Wrap His Rap Career At the End of 2023

Westside Gunn says he is calling it quits on rap. In a tweet ahead of the New Year, Gunn stated he has nothing left to prove.

“23’ def my last year doing this shit, I don’t have nothing else 2prove, I put my team on, I put my city on, I worked w/everybody I ever wanted to work with, plus MFs still don’t even understand 1-10, FLYGOD, Awesome GOD, or Pray for Paris(mind u Virgil did the cover) I’m the [goat emoji, shrug emoji]”

Not sure if Gunn has done it all? Don’t worry, he hit you with a list that featured deals with Eminem and JAY-Z, working alongside late legends like DMX and Prodigy, receiving elite production, and more.

Those achievements didn’t come without struggle, as Gunn noted he fought through hurdles “behind closed doors.”

Last year, Westside Gunn released the final edition of #HWH, and to officially memorialize it, he has aptly named it 10. This title not only signifies completion but also celebrates what has already been set in motion.

“It’s only right that we end here. All special things get a memorial release,” Westside Gunn reflects. “The last double album was going to be the final one, but it felt weird leaving off at nine and not 10. I had to celebrate this series which has meant so much to fans. Everything I do sounds nothing like the last thing I did. That’s the creative in me, and I’m always going to push the culture forward. I’m ending this on a really special note with 10.”

Westside Gunn Announces Plans To Retire From Rap – Again

Westside Gunn is no stranger to teasing his retirement. In 2019, he announced that 2021 would be his last year rapping, after confirming that he still planned to release his collaborative project with Madlib.

However, after a monumental year in 2020, it didn’t appear as though the Buffalo native would be slowing down anytime soon. In the first month of 2021, he backtracked on his previous claims.

On Friday (December 30), the Griselda frontman took to his Twitter account to get a lot off of his chest.

“23′ def my last year doing this sh*t, I don’t have nothing else 2prove, I put my team on, I put my city on, I worked w/everybody I ever wanted to work with, plus MFs still don’t even understand 1-10, FLYGOD, Awesome GOD, or Pray for Paris (mind u Virgil did the cover),” he wrote in the first tweet in a string of others.

After flexing all of the artists he’s worked with over the past few years, including Kanye, Tyler, The Creator and Lil Wayne, he goes on to explain his reasoning. “I know I say I’m a retire all the time so ppl might be like he always say this, seriously I been thru so much with this sh*t behind closed doors y’all would never know, it’s brought more pain than joy[.] I’m just so G that I make it look super easy but I fight these devils everyday,” he writes.

“& I’m tweeting all of this bc I don’t wanna give no more P*ssy ass blogs my time[.] If I’m gonna say something from now on I’m a just make the content and drop it myself UNLESS I really respect you…my supporters already know wat I have going on and I’ll trust the to spread the ART,” he later continues.

Afterwards, the “327” rapper promised to make his alleged final year as an artist a busy one. “Yes I know ppl want GUNNLIB in 23′[.] Yes I do wanna make Awesome GOD a trilogy, Yes WWCD 2 is ontop of my list[.] there’s no way I’ll hang it up without a project with my family, YES StoveGOD will be dropping, YES MICHELLE records will be dropping,” writes the Buffalo native.

The announcement comes on the heels of yet another overwhelmingly active year from the 40-year-old. In July, he dropped the 10-track Peace “Fly” God. Additionally, the tenth and final instalment of his notorious HWH mixtape series arrived in October. The project boasts a stacked line-up of features including A$AP Rocky, Black Star, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon and more.
