ASAP Rocky Was Beyond Delighted To Catch Rihanna’s Manager Sleeping In The Car After The Golden Globes

ASAP Rocky confirmed last month that Don’t Be Dumb, his highly anticipated forthcoming album, is finished. But when you’re around Rocky, don’t be tired. On Tuesday, January 10, Roc Nation’s Jay Brown learned that the hard way.

Per TMZ, Rocky and Rihanna were dining in Santa Monica after attending the 2023 Golden Globes, where Rihanna had been nominated in the Best Original Song, Motion Picture category for “Lift Me Up.”

“Rocky got the heads up Roc Nation exec Jay Brown was snoozing in the car,” TMZ relayed, “a magic moment for professional and amateur photogs like Rocky. Jay was out cold and at a point, Rocky decided enough was enough, so he waived off the cameras and knocked on the hood, which served as a wake-up call.”

During the Golden Globes, host Jerrod Carmichael made Rihanna the center of attention, which, let’s be real, she’s immediately the center of attention the moment she walks into any room. “Take all the time you want on that album, girl,” Carmichael said. “Don’t let these fools on the internet pressure you into nothing!”

In early November, in contrast to Rocky, Rihanna pumped the brakes on the assumption that her first album since 2016’s Anti would follow her Super Bowl LVII halftime performance.

“Super Bowl is one thing, new music is another thing, do you hear that, fans?” she told The Associated Press at the time.

With Super Bowl LVII exactly one month away, Rihanna is likely knee-deep in intense preparation. Not to mention, she and Rocky are busy parenting their infant son. She probably wishes she could take a page from Brown’s book and just sleep.

Whitney Houston’s Estate Upset At Joke Jerrod Carmichael Made About Late Singer At Golden Globes

Jerrod Carmichael is set to host the 80th Golden Globe Awards in January.

Jerrod Carmichael stirred a little bit of controversy over his hosting gig at the 2023 Golden Globes. His monologue about the racism behind the Golden Globes and the Hollywood Foreign Press left many in the audience quiet, and while his other jokes about Will Smith and telling the crowd to “shut the f**k up” garnered laughs, one joke didn’t sit well with others.

During the broadcast, the 35-year-old comedian made a joke about the late legendary singer Whitney Houston.

“Alright you guys, we are back, we are pressed for time but they wanted me to shout out the venue we’re in,” Carmichael said following a commercial break. “So we are here, live, from the hotel that killed Whitney Houston, the Beverly Hilton, you guys—so uh, that’s very exciting.”

Pat Houston, Whitney’s longtime manager and the sole executor of her estate, told TMZ that she denounced the joke and said it was “in poor taste.”

“The Whitney Houston Estate is disappointed in the joke, and felt it was in poor taste.”

Whitney Houston was found unresponsive in a bathtub in the Beverly Hilton on February 11, 2012. The L.A. County Coroner’s Office said attributed her death to drowning and the “effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use.”

Houston’s estate was not the only ones mad at Carmichael’s joke. Many people even took to social media to slam the comedian for the joke as well.

Tyrese Is Beyond Will Smith Jokes Following Golden Globes Jabs

Tyrese isn’t letting any jokes or commentary steer him away from his Will Smith support. A day after Smith was the butt of a Eddie Murphy joke at the Golden Globes, Tyrese hit Instagram to ask people to move on already.

Eddie Murphy attended the 2023 Golden Globes, where he received the Cecil B. DeMille Award for his accomplishments in the cinema industry. Murphy provided three pieces of advice for aspiring entertainment business newcomers during his acceptance speech.

“Pay your taxes, mind your business,” Murphy said to the audience as they listened silently to the words of wisdom from the comedy legend. “And keep Will Smith’s wife’s name out your f****g mouth,” Eddie Murphy said, recalling to the Oscars slap moment.

Additionally, host Jerrod Carmichael said that they had given Will Smith the “Best Portrayal Of Masculinity On Television” award earlier in the break.

“Just some quick housekeeping stuff,” Carmichael began. “While we were on commercial, we actually presented Will Smith with the Rock Hudson award for “Best Portrayal Of Masculinity On Television. So please give it up for Will Smith, you guys!”

Following the show, Tyrese shared an image of himself with Will Smith calling for an end of all the jokes.

“I’m still team WILL SMITH there’s nobody on this earth that will ever influence me to ever have a change of heart towards the BIGGEST INFLUENCE in my life,” Tyrese wrote. “I’m just saying man…. Move on already I just watched ‘EMANCIPATION’ for the 3rd time I just can’t believe how masterful this overall movie is.”

Whitney Houston Estate “Disappointed” In Jerrod Carmichael’s Golden Globes Joke

The estate of Whitney Houston has responded to Jerrod Carmichael’s controversial joke referencing the late singer from the Golden Globes. In a statement provided to TMZ, they said that the joke was “in poor taste.”

As for what Carmichael said, he joked: “So, we are here, live, from the hotel that killed Whitney Houston, the Beverly Hilton.”

“The Whitney Houston Estate is disappointed in the joke, and felt it was in poor taste,” the responding statement reads.

Houston accidentally drowned in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton hotel in 2012. At the time, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office cited drowning and the “effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use” as the cause of her death.

The estate weren’t the only ones unhappy with Carmichael’s joke. Users on Twitter criticized the comedian as well.

One wrote: “I didn’t like that Whitney Houston joke at all. That was so tasteless and disrespectful to her.”

Another agreed: “Pls never hire this guy again. Horrible host.”

Houston wasn’t the only celebrity that Carmichael referenced while hosting the event. He also targeted Tom Cruise and the Church of Scientology with one of his jokes.

“Backstage, I found these three Golden Globe awards that Tom Cruise returned,” he remarked. “I think maybe we take these three things and exchange them for the safe return of Shelly Miscavige.”

Miscavige is a member of the Church of Scientology; however, she hasn’t made a public appearance since 2007. She’s married to Scientology leader David Miscavige.

Rihanna Loved Jerrod Carmichael’s ‘Very Controversial’ Joke About Her Upcoming Album At The Golden Globes

At the 2023 Golden Globes last night (January 10), Rihanna’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever song “Lift Me Up” didn’t take home the award for Best Original Song, Motion Picture. She still stole the show, though, by getting multiple shout-outs during the broadcast. That included one from host Jerrod Carmichael, who cracked a joke that Rihanna fans are probably wishing he hadn’t.

Addressing Rihanna between awards, Carmichael said, “You know what? Honestly, only because I see Rihanna is here, and I’m gonna say… I’m gonna say something very controversial that… I will actually get in trouble for this: Rihanna, you take all the time you want on that album, girl. Don’t let these fools on the internet pressure you into nothing!”

As Carmichael got to the part about his comment being “controversial,” Rihanna smiled as she waited for the punchline. When that dropped, she gave a laugh and a clap, putting her hands on her face and saying something to the people around her.

As for those fools on the internet, they don’t seem to feel the same as Carmichael. One Rihanna fan wrote, “Who this [clown] Jerrod Carmicheal calling a fool? Talking bout ‘don’t let these fools on the internet pressure you into nothing.’ Rihanna owes us that album and we need it ASAP!” Even the Golden Globes themselves got in on the moment, tweeting, “Jerrod Carmichael may want you to take your time but we’d like that album ASAP.”

Rihanna & A$AP Rocky Turn Heads At Golden Globes

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky both attended the Golden Globes together on Tuesday night in Beverly Hills. At the event, Rihanna was nominated for best original song regarding her work on “Lift Me Up.” The song appeared on the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack.

For the night, Rihanna rocked a black gown with velvet details, as well as velvet gloves, and a hefty velvet wrap cape. She also went with heels by Giuseppe Zanotti and numerous Cartier diamonds.

Rihanna’s makeup artist Priscilla Ono discussed the look in a press release from Fenty Beauty. She explained: “We wanted to create a clean, refreshed beauty look using all rose gold hues as a soft juxtaposition to the dramatic structure of her gown. We kept the eye minimal and mixed different rose gold tones on her lips, cheeks and body for an all-over sheen.”

As for A$AP Rocky, the rapper went with a “compact wool and satin jacket and trousers and brushed leather lace-up shoes,” according to a release.

Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up” later lost to “Naatu Naatu” by Kala Bhairava, M.M. Keeravani, and Rahul Sipligunj, for RRR.

The couple’s appearance at the Golden Globes comes ahead of Rihanna’s high-anticipated Super Bowl Halftime Show. The superstar singer recently released a line of merch for the event through her Savage X Fenty brand.

Rocky, on the other hand, is gearing up for the release of his long-awaited fourth studio album. He shared “D.M.B.” off of the effort, in May of last year. The project will be his first full-length effort since 2018’s Testing.

Rihanna, Taylor Swift, And Lady Gaga Lost At The Golden Globes To An Extremely Popular Song You May Not Have Heard Of

The 2023 Golden Globe Awards ceremony took place last night (January 10), and while the proceedings are focused on TV and movies, music makes its way into the mix, too. Specifically, there are two music categories: Best Original Score, Motion Picture and Best Original Song, Motion Picture. The former was won by Justin Hurwitz’s work on Babylon.

As for the latter, songs by Taylor Swift (“Carolina” from Where The Crawdads Sing), Rihanna (“Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), and Lady Gaga (“Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick) were in contention. None of those ended up winning, though. Instead, the Best Original Song award went to Kala Bhairava, M. M. Keeravani, and Rahul Sipligunj’s “Naatu Naatu,” a Telugu-language song from the hit 2022 Indian movie RRR.

While “Naatu Naatu” may not be backed by the star power of a song by Gaga, Rihanna, or Swift (among American/English-speaking audiences, at least), it has achieved massive popularity with over 111 million views on YouTube. That puts it right up there with its competitors: “Hold My Hand” has 138 million views while “Lift Me Up” is at about 92 million and “Carolina” has around 8 million.

Rihanna was in attendance and was a good sport, as she made sure to offer her congratulations to the folks behind RRR.

Meanwhile, RRR was also up for Best Picture, Foreign Language, but that award went to Argentina, 1985.
