Eddie Murphy Shares His Blueprint To Success At Golden Globes: ‘Keep Will Smith’s Wife’s Name Out Of Your F*****g Mouth!’

Eddie Murphy made an appearance at the 2023 Golden Globe awards where he was presented with the Cecil B. DeMille Award for his success in film. During his acceptance speech, Murphy shared his blueprint for newcomers in the entertainment industry, which consisted of three things.

“Pay your taxes, mind your business,” Murphy said to the audience as they were silent listening to the words of wisdom from the comedy legend. “And keep Will Smith’s wife’s name out your f****g mouth,” Eddie Murphy said, referring to the actor slapping Chris Rock at the Academy Awards last year after saying a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

However, this was not the only Will Smith joke made that evening. Earlier, host Jerrod Carmichael took the stage after a commerical break to say that during the break they had presented Will Smith with the “Best Portrayal Of Masculinity On Television” award.

“Just some quick housekeeping stuff,” Carmichael began. “While we were on commercial, we actually presented Will Smith with the Rock Hudson award for “Best Portrayal Of Masculinity On Television. So please give it up for Will Smith you guys!” Carmichael added.

Jerrod Carmichael Tells Golden Globes Audience To ‘Shut The F**k Up,’ Twitter Reacts

Screen Shot 2023 01 11 at 1.00.48 AM

Comedian Jerrod Carmichael hosted the 2023 Golden Globes last night and became one of the more memorable hosts in recent years. Carmichael apparently wasn’t having it when it came to the crowd not being quiet and continuing to talk over him, so he told the audience to “shut the f**k up.”

“Yo, yo, yo,” Carmichael said, trying to quiet the audience down. “I didn’t think I’d spend this much time telling y’all to shut the f**k up,” he added. “Everybody relax, its a live show here. Shut up!”

Twitter, much like the audience, found what the 35-year-old comedian said to be amusing. Some Twitter users added that despite their amusement, it was about to be Carmichael’s first and last time hosting the prestigious award show.

Carmichael also caught attention for his opening monologue where he began by saying “let me tell you why I’m here. I’m here because I’m Black.” In the nearly 7-minute monologue, Carmichael told the story of how he came to be the award show’s host, and how he felt a “moral dilemma” because he knew he was only given the hosting gig because of his race, and because there was no Golden Globes ceremony last year because there were no Black members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

You can check out Carmichael’s monologue below.

Twitter Reacts To Jerrod Carmichael Telling Golden Globes Audience To Shut Up

The 80th Golden Globe Awards went down in Beverly Hills, California on Tuesday evening and Jerrod Carmichael definitely made it a night to remember. Hosting the award show, the 35-year-old made it clear on stage that he wasn’t tolerating the excessive noise, and directly told the crowd to shut up.

“Yo, yo, yo,” Carmichael said, trying to quiet the attendants down. “I didn’t think I’d spend this much time telling y’all to shut the f**k up.”

After being met with mild laughter, the comedian continued, “Everybody relax. This is a live show here. Shut up!”

Though this was Carmichael’s first time hosting the Golden Globes, one Twitter user joked online that it could also be his last, saying, “Bout to be the first and last time Jerrod Carmichael host The Golden Globe.”

“Jerrod Carmichael dressed in his “colors are blush and bashful” yelling at the most famous people to “shut up” like he’s your parents trying to hear the TV has me howling,” another wrote.

Carmichael hosted “Saturday Night Live” last year shortly after coming out in his HBO special “Rothanial.”

In a sit-down with GQ, the stand-up comic opened up about his sexuality, saying that “secret sex is the most fun sex, unfortunately. But, no more of that. Now I’m open and able to show emotion or show affection.”

“I don’t run from it,” he continued, adding, “I mean, there’s definitely still walls and I’ve still got to figure shit out, but the funniest shit on Raya is the girls that I matched with that I never responded to, a couple of them hit me and were like, ‘Ohhhh, okay. I get it now.’”

The North Carolina native has added hosting to his resume, but he also told the magazine that he doesn’t want to wear too many hats.

“I think you should show a discernible skill and be good at something. I hate when a female singer has a decent voice but they suck at dancing. B***h, stop moving. Be like Adele, just stand there. Whitney Houston made ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody,’ and she can’t dance! But who cares, because her voice was great,” he shared.

“I think [standup] is a natural way of communicating for me. I think I probably communicate better, in many ways, on stage than off, and can be more honest.”

Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, And Others Represent The Music World With Their 2023 Golden Globes Nominations

Rihanna ended her six-year music hiatus in late October with the powerful ballad “Lift Me Up” for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack — and tacked on “Born Again” for good measure. Taylor Swift clocked the biggest first-week tallies since 2015 and monopolized the top 10 of Billboard‘s Hot 100 with Midnights. Lady Gaga won another Grammy with Tony Bennett and set out on her Chromatica Ball tour. And now, the powers that be at the 2023 Golden Globes are supposed to choose between them.

The Best Original Song, Motion Picture category is stacked: “Carolina” by Taylor Swift for Where The Crawdads Sing; “Ciao Papa” by Roeben Katz and Guillermo del Toro for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio; “Hold My Hand” by Lady Gaga and BloodPop for Top Gun: Maverick; “Lift Me Up” by Rihanna, Ryan Coogler, Ludwig Göransson, and Tems for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever; and “Naatu Naatu” by Kala Bhairava, M. M. Keeravani, and Rahul Sipligunj for RRR.

Elsewhere in the nomination field, Selena Gomez is up for Best Actress In A TV Series, Musical Or Comedy for her role in Hulu’s Only Murders In The Building, co-starring alongside Martin Short and Steve Martin for two seasons with a third on the way. The category is rounded out by Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Kaley Cuoco (The Flight Attendant), Jenna Ortega (Wednesday), and Jean Smart (Hacks).

The films that make up the Best Original Score category are Babylon, The Banshees Of Inisherin, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, The Fabelmans, and Women Talking.

Other loosely music-related nominations of note are Donald Glover’s (sometimes known as Childish Gambino) for Best Actor In A Television Series, Musical Or Comedy; Austin Butler for Best Performance By An Actor In A Motion Picture, Drama for his portrayal in Elvis; and four nods for Pam & Tommy, Hulu’s limited series revisiting everything surrounding the 1995 sex tape made by Pamela Anderson and Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee.

The 2023 Golden Globes are scheduled for January 10, 2023 and will broadcast live on NBC with Jerrod Carmichael hosting.

Will Smith Wins Golden Globes Best Actor Trophy In Award Ceremony No One Will Ever See

Will Smith was announced as the winner for the best actor in Motion Picture at the Golden Globes last night for his role in King Richard as the father of tennis sisters, Serena and Venus Willams. Snoop Dogg Got Ben Affleck’s Name Wrong While Announcing Golden Globe Nominees But Otherwise Nailed It

Earlier this morning, the nominees for the 79th Annual Golden Globe Awards were announced in Los Angeles and to great surprise, Hollywood Foreign Press President Helen Hoehner gave way to an illustrious Southern Californian to read off the first half of nominations, saying, “And now to help me announce the 79th Annual Golden Globe nominees, please welcome a special guest… Snoop Dogg.”

Out came the lanky six-foot-four-inch rapper with a red “Murder” beanie on his head, an asymmetrical paisley button down shirt, modest-sized gold medallion, and of course, Locs sunglasses. First off, big shouts to Snoop Dogg for getting up in time to appear in front of a screen by 6 a.m. That’s a father of four right there, people.

But for all the jabs Snoop Dogg has received for mispronouncing a couple names (“Ben Uhffleck… Ben Affleck. My fault… sorry about that, Ben.”), he actually totally nails all or most of some pretty difficult names. He pronounced Dune director Denis Villeneuve’s name with very stout French pronunciation of a hard “e” at the end. He then showed his versatility in the love language by pronouncing The French Dispatch composer Alexandre Desplat’s name with a soft “t.”

Of course there were moments of hilarity, like the way he said Pose actress Michaela J. Rodirguez’s last name like it was one of the homies from the block (“Rordriguezz!”) or how he delivered the title of the musical Tick, Tick…Boom! like it was the punctuation to a song lyric.

So don’t listen to anyone who makes the condescending claim that Snoop Dogg was “butchering so many of the nominees’ names that it was hard to tell who actually got nominated.” Because he was absolutely himself and he did a fine job at the mundane task before him.

Lady Gaga, Alana Haim, Billie Eilish, And Other Music Stars Earned 2022 Golden Globes Nominations

The Golden Globes celebrate the best in TV and movies, but the music world usually finds its way into the proceedings, too. The nominees for the 2022 event were announced this morning, and sure enough, some of the biggest names in music are on the list.

Lady Gaga scored a huge nomination thanks to her work on House Of Gucci, as she’s up for Best Performance By An Actress In A Motion Picture, Drama. On the flip side, Alana Haim got a nomination for Best Performance By An Actress In A Motion Picture, Musical Or Comedy for her breakout starring role in Licorice Pizza.

When it comes to music-specific awards, Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood locked up a nomination for Best Original Score for The Power Of The Dog. As for Best Original Song, Motion Picture, the field is packed with familiar names: Beyoncé (for “Be Alive” from King Richard), Lin-Manuel Miranda (“Dos Orugitas” from Encanto), Van Morrison (“Down To Joy” from Belfast), Jennifer Hudson (“Here I Am (Singing My Was Home)” from Respect), and Billie Eilish (“No Time To Die” from No Time To Die).

Meanwhile, a few music-adjacent projects are up for Best Motion Picture, Comedy Or Musical: Cyrano (Aaron and Bryce Dessner composed the film’s score), Don’t Look Up (Kid Cudi and Ariana Grande have roles in the movie), and Licorice Pizza.

Nipsey Hussle Received A Shout Out In A Golden Globe Winner’s Acceptance Speech

The late, great Nipsey Hussle’s influence is undeniable. Not only did he leave a mark locally before his death in 2019, but he also continues to have a massive impact on pop culture after it. While he continues to receive reverent tributes from friends and admirers like LeBron James and Barrack Obama, his name also occasionally pops up in unusual circumstances — even for a self-made mogul whose funeral procession shut down the city of Los Angeles and whose memorial service filled the Staples Center.

Daniel Kaluuya, one of the stars of the thriller Judas And The Black Messiah, shouted out Nipsey Hussle during his acceptance speech at last night’s virtual Golden Globes ceremony. After winning Best Supporting Actor for his role as Black Panther Illinois chapter chairman Fred Hampton, Kaluuya quoted Nipsey, explaining how Nip’s worldview shaped his superb performance. “I gave everything,” he said. “Like the great Nipsey Hussle says, we’re here to give until we’re empty.”

Nipsey also appears on the film’s companion album alongside a slew of hip-hop all-stars, including Jay-Z, with whom Nipsey shared their first-ever collaboration, “What It Feels Like.”
