On this day in 1970, rapper/actor Dennis Coles aka Ghostface Killah was born. The chamber of eccentricity comes almost exclusively from Tony Starks, who has been compared to the likes of Slick Rick with his signature, six inch high eagle bracelet and other excessively gaudy jewels.
At the foundation of the Wu saga, Ghost’s face was unseen and wasn’t revealed until the Chef’s Only Built For Cuban Linx classic “Purple Tape”. With ten solid solo albums under his belt, Ghostdini continues to impact the game along with his WTC family.
The Source Magazine would like to send a super shout out to the “Ironman” of Hip Hop on his degree day! Enjoy!
Nas and Ghostface Killah on one track? Absolutely 100,000% yes. Two of New York hip-hop’s most recognizable and respected figures are hopping on the same song for just the second time ever. It is a shame we have had to wait 29 years for this moment, but it is better late than never. “Scar Tissue” is going to be the lead single for the Wu-Tang Clan member’s forthcoming record Set The Tone.
It will be the first new album for Killah since 2019’s Ghostface Killahs. However, it will be following up a reissue of The Lost Tapesthat dropped back in October of last year. Furthermore, Set The Tone will also be the first record for Ghostface Killah on Nas’ Mass Appeal Records. The project is due on May 9, according to Genius, and rumored features include Kanye West and Remy Ma.
“Scar Tissue” sees Killah and Nas shred a vicious East Coast boom-bap beat with killer guitar shreds. Both MCs rap with serious aggression, especially the lead act. “Get your head wrapped in plastic, I’ll Boar’s Head ’em / Read n****s up and down like the court’s read ’em / Spit acid on everything, strong venom.” This track has us extremely juiced for what’s to come on Set The Tone and we recommend you give it a spin for yourself.
What are your thoughts on this brand-new single “Scar Tissue” by Ghostface Killah and Nas? Does this get you excited for his upcoming album Set The Tone, why or why not? Who had the stronger performance on the track? Are both rappers still in great form? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Wu Tang Clan swordsman Ghostface Killah has decided that out of his myriad of timeless classics, there will be one that he will never perform on stage again.
“It just gets me sad,” Ghost said about his 1996 hit single from his Ironman LP “All That I Got Is You” featuring Mary J. Blige. “I don’t really perform that because it brings me back to a place where we was going through it. That record brings pain.”
In an exclusive interview with Big Daddy Kane on Hip Hop Wired’s “I Got Questions”, the Wally Champ says that the song digs up so much pain from his life that he’s chosen to not perform the song live. The song also features words of wisdom from Wu Tang OG Popa Wu, who passed away in 2019.
Ghostface is still performing in front of sold out crowds such as the capacity crowd last week at NYC’s Apollo Theater for the Fat Joe and Friends concert, which featured other NYC notables such as Dipset, Peter Gunz, Remy Ma, Lil Kim, 50 Cent and The L.O.X.
On this date at the turn of the millennium, Ghostface Killah of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan released his second full-length album, Supreme Clientele. This album was the anticipated four-year follow-up to his critically acclaimed Iron Man debut. According to critics, this album has been ranked as Ghost’s best.
RZA oversaw the album’s production, including tracks from the Beatnuts’ Juju and in-house production from Inspectah Deck and DJ Allah Mathematics. Mainstream songs such as “Apollo Kids” and “Cherchez La Ghost” helped the album reach gold within two months of its release.
Salute to Ghost, RZA, and the entire WTC for contributing to this Hip-Hop classic!
On this day in 1996, Ghostface Killah’s released highly anticipated debut album Ironman was certified gold by the RIAA. With exclusive in-house Wu production from True Master and the RZA coupled with Raekwon The Chef appearing on almost every song on the album, making this album one of the best concept albums completed by the nine man conglomerate to date.
The 16-track album featured several hits that bolstered the Wu Tang Clan’s status as the best rap collective in the game, including the haunting street saga “Motherless Child”, “All That I Got Is You” featuring Mary J. Blige and the late Popa Wu and “WInter Warz”, which appeared on the Don’t Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood soundtrack.
This album proceeded Ghost’s abstract lyrical content as witnessed on 2000’s Supreme Clientele LP, but it’s story telling premise keeps listeners glued to the cadence and rhyme style of Mr. Coles equally as much as they are attracted to RZA’s production.
Ironman finally reached platinum status in 2004, which still proves to be Ghost’s most successful album of his career. The WTC would follow up with albums that attempt to mirror the conceptual preciseness of Ironman, however, none of the Clan’s solo projects can be compared in its totality to that of Tony Starks.
Legendary rap posseWu-Tang Clan is back with a brand-new single for the first time in a long time. In fact, it has technically been three years since their last single, “Hi.” It did receive a remix in 2021 with UNKLE. Other than that though, the New York group has stood silent. Sadly, it does not feature a ton of the members, but Method Man and Ghostface Killah do make appearances.
On the Wu-Tang Clan’s Instagram account, they began teasing a comeback of sorts. It began a little over a day ago with them sharing the cover art of the track. “Claudine coming Friday.. the saga continues..” This message confused some fans. One person said, “Is this a song, a whole album, or a movie?” Another shared the same sentiment, “Is this a f*****g record?” The cover was uploaded in black and white.

Shortly after, it donned a yellow and black color palette. Finally, on the day of its release, Wu-Tang shared the official artwork. “Claudine” also features some nice guest singing from Nicole Bus. Additionally, Mathematics brings soulful production into the mix. It is more of an emotionally charged track that talks about wishing you could spend more time with the people you care about. Those lyrics are very prevalent in Ghostface and Nicole’s sections.
