Police Label Ryan Mallett’s Death A “Tragic Accident”

Ryan Mallett, former Arkansas Razorbacks star and long-time NFL backup QB, died at the age of 35 on June 27. Mallett played in the NFL between 2011 and 2017. However, at the time of his death he was coaching high school in Arkansas. He was beloved by the University of Arkansas, where he played for two seasons after transferring from Michigan. He is second all-time in terms of passing yards and touchdowns for the Razorbacks.

Leading the tributes for the quarterback was Tom Brady, who Mallett backed up for two years. Taking to his Instagram story, Brady shared a picture of him with Mallett. “We lost a great man. Thank you for everything Ryan,” Brady wrote. “Praying for the Mallet family and all their loved ones tonight,” he continued. However, new information about Mallett’s death has been revealed. It appears that previous reporting and speculation linking his death to riptides was inaccurate.

Police Deny Mallett Drowned In Riptide

“Investigators are continuing to gather information in the drowning of an Arkansas tourist Tuesday afternoon,” the department wrote on Facebook. “It just seems to be just a tragic accident and not something to do with the conditions of the surf or tides or currents. It’s always difficult when we lose a tourist or resident here, but we have no indication here of any dangerous conditions out there,” Sheriff Eric Aden added in an additional statement to CBS News.

According to the new information, Mallett was part of a group of swimmers off the coast of Destin. A popular beach town, Destin is about 45 miles down the coast from Pensacola. The group Mallett was with reportedly “struggled to make their way back to shore.” Furthermore, during the journey back, Mallett fell underwater while attempting to reach a sandbar. He was reportedly unresponsive when the group made it back to the beach. “Investigators say Mallett began struggling while attempting to swim to a second sandbar about 150 feet offshore of the beach near Gulf Shores Drive in Destin around 2:15 p.m. Despite widespread media misinformation, yellow beach safety flags were flying at the time and there were no indications of any ‘riptides,’” the department added.

Indianapolis Cut Isaiah Rodgers Over Gambling Supension

Sources reported earlier this week that another round of NFL players were being handed suspensions for betting-related offenses. The biggest name on the list was believed to be the Colts’ starting right-side cornerback Isaiah Rodgers.

Rodgers was a sixth-round pick out of UMass in 2020, but quickly proved his skill and ability. He made the 2020 all-rookie team and quickly earned the starting role in Indy. However, earlier this month, Rodgers acknowledged the gambling accusations against him and admitted “full responsibility” for his actions on social media.

Furthermore, it was also reported that Rodgers had directly bet on Colts games. This led pundits to believe that his punishment would be especially severe. That assumption proved to be correct.

Rodgers Suspended Indefinitely, Cut By Colts

Rodgers, along with Colts defensive end Rashod Berry and free agent defensive tackle Demetrius Taylor, was suspended indefinitely by the NFL for violating the league’s gambling policy. Meanwhile, Titans offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere was suspended for six games.

About an hour after the news broke, it was revealed that Rodgers and Berry had been waived by the team. 2022 undrafted free agent and all-rookie corner Dallis Flowers is now listed as RCB1. In a statement, Colts GM Chris Ballad explained the decision. “The integrity of the game is of the utmost importance. As an organization, we will continue to educate our players, coaches, and staff on the policies in place and the significant consequences that may occur with violations.”

Further details have since emerged about the nature of Rodgers’ betting. Per ESPN‘s David Purdum, Rodgers had been betting on Colts games. One particular bet of note was an over/under prop bet on rushing yards for a Colts running back.

Soccer Player Gets Eight-Month Ban For Gambling

The NFL is not the only league dealing with players gambling. The Football Association (FA), which oversees soccer in the United Kingdom, handed down an eight-month ban to Brentford striker Ivan Toney in May.

According to an FA investigation, Toney breached betting rules 262 times between February 2017 and January 2021. Furthermore, Toney admitted to 232 breaches. This included 13 bets across seven matches where Toney bet on his own team to lose. However, Toney did not play in any of the games in question.

Initially, the FA had wanted to hand down a 15-month ban to Toney. However, after Toney was diagnosed with a gambling addiction, the agreed-upon 11-month ban was reduced to eight. That means Toney, who led Brentford with 21 goals last season, will be out until mid-January. On June 12, the London club paid $27.7 million to acquire German striker Kevin Schade from SC Freiburg. Schade had joined Brentford on loan for the second half of the 2022-23 season.

Up To 80% Of NFL Players Smoke Weed, According To Travis Kelce

Travis Kelce is a future first-ballot Hall of Famer. After playing as a hybrid QB/TE for the University of Cincinnati, he was taken in the third round of the 2013 draft by the Chiefs. From there, he has blossomed into one of the league’s greatest-ever tight ends. He became TE1 for the Chiefs in his sophomore year and currently holds a host of records at the position. Furthermore, he sits fourth all-time in receiving yards for a tight end as he enters his tenth NFL season.

But we’re not here to talk about Travis Kelce. Instead, we’re here to make talk about a bold claim he made in a recent interview. According to Kelce, between 50 and 80 percent of all NFL players smoke weed. Additionally, Kelce revealed just how players get away with such a prevalent practice.

Kelce Shares NFL Weed Smoking Secrets

Speaking with Vanity Fair, Kelce revealed how NFL players typically get away with smoking weed. “If you just stop in the middle of July, you’re fine. A lot of guys stop a week before and they still pass because everybody’s working out in the heat and sweating their tail off. Nobody’s really getting hit for it anymore.” In 2021, the NFL relaxed its stance on marijuana. Players were only tested in a two-week window before the season, as opposed to more rigorous testing schedules. Furthermore, the threshold for a positive test was raised from 35ng/ml to 150ng/ml.

While Kelce hasn’t been suspended during his time in the NFL for smoking the good kush, he was in college. He missed the entire 2009 season for violating the NCAA’s marijuana policy. Meanwhile, Kansas City legalized recreational weed this year. As a result, there are just six teams still located in states where weed is illegal under all circumstances. They are both Texas teams, the Falcons, Panthers, Packers, and Colts. However, if what Kelce says is true, it’s like that’s not stopping players lighting up.

Rob Gronkowski Takes Drip King Crown With Cease & Desist For Baby Gronk

“Is Baby Gronk the new Drip King, or is he being rizzed up by Livvy?” is a phrase that took the internet by storm in early June. Baby Gronk is a 10-year-old social media star whose football exploits are doing big numbers for him and his family. Earlier this year, he visited LSU, where he linked up with Tigers gymnast and social media influencer Olivia Dunne. This led a lacrosse player at UMass-Lowell to ask whether Baby Gronk was the new Drip King (a title held by a lacrosse player at UMass) or whether Dunne had merely rizzed up Baby Gronk to secure his commitment to LSU.

Baby Gronk, or more accurately, his father/manager, took the viral attention in stride. Baby Gronk declared himself the new Drip King and even challenged fellow social media phenom Baby Diggs to a 1-on-1 battle. The entire situation is very bizarre and has undertones of the Todd Marinovich debacle from the late 80s. However, a new figure has emerged to add more fuel to the fire.

Rob Gronkowski retired from the NFL in 2022, finishing his career as one of the greatest tight ends of all time. Playing his entire career alongside Tom Brady in both New England and Tampa, Gronk is a surefire first-ballot Hall of Famer. However, he has now entered the story with a cease and desist for the social media star.

Rob Gronkowski Seeks To Shut Down Baby Gronk Dad

The whole thing would have likely flown under the radar if not for Baby Gronk’s father. Appearing on Barstool SportsTight End University, Gronk vented about the annoyance that was Jake San Miguel, aka Baby Gronk Dad. “Four weeks ago, my brother told me, ‘Yo, have you seen Baby Gronk?’ ‘Did I see him? ‘ I go. ‘His dad hit me up 500 times already.’ He goes, ‘Don’t do anything.’ The dad is so annoying. And this was like five, six weeks ago. And then all of a sudden, two weeks later, it’s coming out everywhere. My brother died laughing,” Gronk said.

This has led Gronk to consider issuing a cease and desist to Miguel. This order would likely seek to prevent Miguel from marketing his son as “Baby Gronk” going forward. “We’re gonna cease and desist Baby Gronk’s dad,” the ex-pro said on the Barstool show. Well, the meme was fun while it lasted. However, maybe it is for the best that the Baby Gronk business is curtailed.

As mentioned, the whole situation reminded a lot of people of Todd Marinovich, a player who went the 80s version of viral for being essentially bred for football by his dad. Similarly, Chris Long, the long-time Rams defensive end, expressed concern for the social media phenom on his podcast. “I have no problem with profiting off the internet, this is what we’re all doing,” Long said on his podcast Green Light. “But the difference is we’re not using a 10-year-old kid to do it. You gotta be concerned about the toll this is gonna take on Baby Gronk when he’s older.” Long has been very open about the pressure he faced growing up from his own father, Hall of Famer Howard Long.

But what are the other figures of the viral story up to? Well, Olivia Dunne continues to grab headlines wherever she goes. Most recently, that was Omaha, Nebraska for the Men’s College World Series. Amid the nearly 70,000 Jello shots consumed by LSU fans during the event, Dunne was out and about at final NCAA championship of the season.

Dunne attended several games during the event, including LSU wins against Wake Forest and Florida. Every time Dunne posted up at Charles Schwab Field, large swathes of the crowd would gravitate toward her. One has to imagine that the charm quickly wore off after the number of people “shooting their shot” hit double digits.

After LSU took home their seventh MCWS title, it was off to Tennessee for Dunne. She posted up at the Nashville Superspeedway for the NASCAR CUP Series Ally 400 race. Furthermore, her VIP pass earned her a tour of Chase Eliot’s pit and car. Eliot, the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series champion, currently sits in 25th in the NASCAR standings.

NFL Expected To Suspend More Players For Gambling

Another wave of gambling-related suspensions is expected to be handed down by the NFL head office this week. The biggest name linked to this latest batch of suspensions is Colts cornerback Isaiah Rodgers.

Rodgers was a sixth-round pick out of UMass in 2020, but quickly proved his skill and ability. Making the all-rookie team, he is currently listed as the starting right-side cornerback in Indianapolis.

However, earlier this month, Rodgers acknowledged the gambling accusations against him and admitted “full responsibility” for his actions on social media. However, the punishment for Rodgers could be particularly severe, as it is believed that he placed bets on Colts games.

NFL Ramping Up Gambling Crackdown

The word of new suspensions, first reported by ESPN, comes just months after a major crackdown on the league’s gambling policy. The first major wave of crackdowns came in late April, headlined by the suspension of Lions’ wide receiver Jameson Williams.

These latest suspensions are just one facet of the NFL’s campaign against sports betting on the part of its athletes. Elsewhere, the NFL announced that all 2023 rookies will have to attend mandatory anti-gambling education training. Meanwhile, NFL officials will be making in-person visits to every team to stress the league’s policy on gambling.

ESPN‘s report did specify when the suspensions would be officially announced. Furthermore, it is unknown which players other than Rodgers would be facing a suspension. However, it is believed that all players named will be facing a season-long suspension. By comparison, Williams received a six-game suspension.

Calvin Ridley Ready For NFL Return

One player who knows just how strict the NFL can be about gambling is Calvin Ridley. Ridley was suspended “indefinitely” in 2022 for betting on NFL games while away from the Atlanta Falcons. Subsequently, the Falcons traded him at the deadline to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Ridley was officially reinstated to the league in March 2023.

Ridley has been hard at work with the Jaguars as he prepares for his return to the NFL. Per the latest reports from the team, Ridley is “as advertised” and well on his way to returning to his pre-suspension dominance. While Ridley had a career year in 2020, he only played five games in 2021 before stepping away from the Falcosn for mental health reasons.

“I’ve been really impressed with Calvin,” Jags offensive coordinator Press Taylor told reporters. “I’ve watched every snap Calvin’s played in the NFL, just like a lot of our guys have, so we’re very confident in the player we’re getting. And then to be able to meet him in person, we’ve had a lot of people vouch for him going back to when we acquired him.”

Leonard Fournette Survives Fiery Incident On Highway

Leonard Fournette is still waiting for his next destination in his NFL career. The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers spent the first three seasons of his career in Jacksonville. While the last three have been spent in Tampa Bay. During his time with the Buccaneers, Fournette was a part of the franchise’s second Super Bowl victory. As the Bucs defeated the Kansas City Chiefs behind the stellar play of then-QB Tom Brady. However, all of that seems minuscule at the moment.

On Tuesday, Fournette was involved in a horrifying incident on a Florida highway. According to the reports obtained by ‘TMZ’ Fournette’s vehicle went up in flames while the former LSU star was driving. The issue stemmed from a mechanical mishap, not from a collision. The aftermath of the incident is Fournette’s vehicle completely in ash as the flames engulfed the entire vehicle. However, the running back walked away from the incident with no injuries. Check out the photos from the incident in the tweet shared below.

Antonio Brown Explains Viral Gold Grill Photo From Central Michigan

Antonio Brown has explained the background to the viral photo of himself flexing his golden grill while at the University of Central Michigan. Brown says that the photographer told him not to smile and that, in response, he shot back the meanest mug he could. Brown discussed the picture while appearing on Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill’s podcast, It Needed To Be Said.

“I had a permanent grill at the bottom, 8-pack and I just smiled, and the dude said, [Don’t smile],” said Brown. “So he pi**ed me off so much I gave him the meanest mug I could give him. I was really trying to scare him.”

Brown continued: “We had just won the championship, too, in 2007 for the school. So for me, I wanted to really put some swag in the picture. I had the pork chops. You know, I couldn’t really get a full beard at the time. So I had to give him a cr*zy mug like.”

Brown attended Central Michigan from 2007–2009. Elsewhere in the interview with Hill, Brown discussed his final game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He infamously stormed off the field in the middle of the third quarter without explanation.

Antonio Brown Explains The Viral Photo

“We (were) about to play the Jets and I am already hurt,” Brown said. “So I took pictures to send to the coach and told him ‘Look, If we’re going to win the Super Bowl I’m going to need to take these last two weeks to recover up so I can give you my best when we go to win the Super Bowl,’ but the coach called me saying that I wasn’t resting. So then Tom (Brady) called me and told me he’d hit me with 10-12 (passes), so he gassed me up, and that’s all I needed to hear. But you know as a player, if you f***ing up but your team needs you then you just suck it up for the game and for the team. I already know they were being fake to me the whole time I was there. I got suspended (for breaking Covid-19 rules) and I came back and they had some guys hurt, so they wanted to get everything out of me — they treated me like I’m a dog.”

Deion Sanders Jokes With His Kids In Post-Surgery Video

Deion Sanders’ rebuild of the Colorado Buffaloes football team had to be put on hold for a few days so that the NFL legend could get surgery. Sanders has been dealing with circulation issues in his left foot for a number of years. After having two toes amputated in 2021, surgeons could worry that the persisting problem could cost him the whole foot.

However, it wasn’t his foot that prompted emergency surgery on June 22. Instead, as first reported by Pat McAfee, Sanders had been admitted to the hospital to remove a clot in his groin. The severity of the clot was not made public. However, it appeared bad enough that it required an unscheduled surgery to correct.

Sanders In Good Spirits Post-Surgery

However, to the relief of many, it appears that surgery went well. Deion Sanders Jr. posted a video to his father’s Instagram account showing Coach Prime face-timing with his family. The video was captioned “There’s something wrong with @shilosanders … family conversation @shedeursanders @deionsandersjr @shilosanders @deiondrasanders #CoachPrime (posted by @deionsandersjr)”. Sanders is expected to leave hospital in the coming days. Given his work ethic, we could be back on the turf at Folsom Field this week.

In the video, Sanders, lying in a hospital bed, is face timing his children. After confirming that he had two clots in his left leg removed, and another in his right leg yet to be removed, he began joking around his children. “I told ’em – Shilo ain’t no good, Shilo ain’t no good.” Shilo, who plays defensive back and recently transferred to play under his dad at Colorado, couldn’t help but joke around. “I told ’em you were getting a BBL,” Shilo quipped. While it seems that Coach Prime is in the clear for the moment, we wish him a speedy recovery regardless. Follow all the latest sports news here at HotNewHipHop.

Tom Brady Shows Off Pro-Ready Physique During Greek Vacation

Tom Brady officially retired from the NFL in February 2023. It marked the end of a 20-year career that turned Brady from a sixth-round pick into the greatest quarterback in league history. Due to start a ten-year broadcasting contract with Fox in 2024, Brady has been using his time to relax, spend time with his kids, and explore some other ventures.

Despite a small saga involving his purchase of a minority stake in the Raiders, Brady has mostly avoided the sports limelight. Furthermore, Brady was forced to reiterate that his retirement was permanent. Instead, he’s been traveling the world with his kids. Previously, Brady stated that he had opted to delay his broadcasting contract by a year in order to be able to spend prolonged quality time with his family. Brady has three children with two women – Jack, Ben, and Vivian.

Aaron Rodgers Advocates For Legalization Of Psychedelics In Keynote Speech

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has publicly advocated for the legalization of psychedelics. He did so at a conference hosted by the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, the US’ largest psychedelics advocacy group. Rodgers is famous for his use of psychedelic substances, notably Ayahuasca.

“Is it not ironic that the things that actually expand your mind are illegal and the things that keep you in the lower chakras and d*mb you down have been legal for centuries?” said Rodgers, who is also a prominent anti-vaxxer. Later, speaking with podcaster Aubrey Marcus, Rodgers pointed to his usage of Ayahuasca during the 2019 season.

“You know, it’s going to be hard to cancel me, because, you know, the previous year, 26 touchdowns, four interceptions. We had a good season. Ayahuasca, 48 touchdowns, five interceptions, MVP. What are you going to say?” Rodgers argued.

Rodgers Speaks On Acceptance Of Psychedelics

Rodgers’ comments come after voters in Colorado chose to decriminalize psychedelic mushrooms, becoming the second state to do so after Oregon. While advocates claim that psychedelics have proven effective in the treatment of PTSD. However, medical experts argue that more research is needed to better understand the efficacy and side effects of the substances.

However, Rodgers firmly believes in their positive properties. “The response from other people in the sports industry has been incredible. To see basketball players and baseball players and surfers, entertainers and my own teammates and colleagues across the league reach out and either share their story about their own medicine journey or ask to be a part of an upcoming one was pretty special.”

Furthermore, Rodgers also slammed his critics and detractors. “Because I guarantee you all these bums who want to come after me online about my experience and stuff, they’ve never tried it,” he added. “They’re the perfect people for it. We need to get these people taking it.”

Related: Aaron Rodgers owed $107 million in 2024

Not Rodgers’ First Controversial Opinion

Advocating for psychedelics is far from Rodgers’ first controversial opinion. As mentioned, the veteran quarterback became one of the most prominent critics of vaccines in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Aaron Rodgers also harbors some debatable beliefs about 9/11.

According to Deshone Kizer, who backed up Rodgers in Green Bay in 2018, Rodgers is very interested in conspiracy theories. “Do you believe in 9/11?” Kizer claims Rodgers asked him during one hangout. Kizer made his claims in 2022 during an interview with Adam Breneman. This is not to say that Rodgers is an out-and-out 9/11 truther, but regardless.

Furthermore, Rodgers will make his Jets debut on September 11. The Jets are headlining a Monday Night Football matchup with the division-rival Buffalo Bills. The Bills are the team to beat in the AFC East and have won the division three years in a row. However, many pundits believe that the addition of Rodgers immediately makes the Jets a contender this year.
