There’s probably at least some subset of Drake fans who are also passionate about fly fishing. For those select few, today is a massive day, as it has finally happened: Drake is on the cover of the Fall 2024 issue of The Drake, a long-running quarterly fly fishing magazine.
It appears this isn’t just Drake having fun with his and the magazine’s names, though, as the cover serves as some clever marketing.
On the cover, Drake is standing in the middle of a stream, fly fishing away. Notably, he’s wearing multiple pieces from his company Nocta’s new line with Nike, the “Opal” collection. It’s not available to buy yet, but the caption of a new promo video shared on Instagram today (October 9) explains, “The Opal Collection is a return to NOCTA’s core DNA- premium outerwear, vests and apparel inspired by sport and culture. Engineered for performance and crafted with intention, each piece is designed for seamless adaptability across diverse environments. Stay tuned for details and release info.”
For those who like looking for hidden meanings where there likely aren’t any: In August, ASAP Rocky said of his beef with Drake, “I got bigger fish to fry.” Do with that information what you will.
Speaking of Drake-related merch, OVO recently announced the “Hometown Heroes Collection,” which includes hoodies, t-shirts, and basketball and hockey jerseys featuring OVO branding, in partnership with the NBA’s Toronto Raptors and the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs.
Even though it doesn’t seem like there’s an Outkast reunion on the horizon any time soon, there doesn’t appear to be any bad blood between Andre 3000 and Big Boi. In fact, Andre recently revealed on Questlove’s podcast Questlove Supreme that he accidentally shared a surprising hobby with his fellow former Outkast rapper that Big Boi has picked up.
The discussion started with a rumor about Andre 3000, of which there are many as he’s a notoriously mysterious artist. The particular rumor they discussed is that Andre is really into fishing, something he denies. But it did serve as the springboard into a different and surprisingly hilarious anecdote about deep sea fishing. “I invited Big Boi on a couple of them and Big Boi, he’s been running with it. Big Boi goes out and deep sea fishes all the time,” Andre explains. Listen to the full hilarious sequence on the podcast below.
Andre 3000 is fresh off of releasing an album that left fans and fellow rappers divided. He dropped his debut album New Blue Sun last months after years of anticipation building up. On the album, he shifted his style dramatically wandering away from hip-hop altogether. Instead, the album is an ambient jazz project with long instrumental compositions that prominently feature Andre playing the flute.
The album has prompted dozens of responses from Andre’s contemporaries sharing their thoughts on the project. Artists like RZA, Lupe Fiasco, and Big Gipp came to his defense praising both the album itself and the bold artistic risk he took releasing it. Fans and critics were more divided on the project. Many fans who were anticipating a rap sound came away from New Blue Sun disappointed even though Andre warned when he announced the project that there would be “no bars.” Critics who were more familiar with ambient jazz music are also divided on how compelling Andre’s take on the style actually is. What do you think of Andre 3000 getting Big Boi into deep-sea fishing? Let us know in the comment section below.
Ben Simmons crashed out of the 2022/23 NBA season on March 28. The Australian combo player had struggled with nerve inflammation for most of the month, as well as dealing with a number of other injuries over the course of the season. The Nets, cautious about injuring Simmons further, opted to shut him down for the season as opposed to rushing him back for the playoffs.
Despite stating that his aim was to return to action at the FIBA World Cup, Simmons was not named to Australia’s 12-man roster. Meanwhile, Nets GM Sean Marks said that Simmons was not rushing his recovery. That became abundantly clear with Simmons’ latest Instagram post.
In a video posted to his Instagram, Simmons showed how he was taking some time away from the court to get in a spot of fishing. “Quick fishing trip for the weekend,” Simmons wrote as a caption. The video was quickly roasted along some familiar lines. “This n*gga been going fishing his entire career,” one person wrote. “Bro already in 2024 off-season mode,” added another. In 42 games last season, Simmons had 6.9/6.3/6.1 per game. While he has posted some updates since he went down, his progress has seemed minimal.
Simmons, the first-overall pick in 2016, has never really lived up to that status. Injuries have limited him to less than 60 games in each of the last three seasons and even then, his numbers have not been stellar. His best year was 2018/19 when he put 16.9/8.8/7.7 per game. And it’s not like the 2016 class was especially weak. Jaylen Brown, Jamal Murray, and Pascal Siakim were all 2016 draft picks as well. Entering his second season with the Nets, it’s unclear just how much time Simmons is going to spend on the court. That could prove costly, as he is owed nearly $80 million over the next two seasons. When do you think Simmons will return to action? Let us know in the comments. Follow all the latest sports news here at HotNewHipHop.
Almost Healed may be the last lengthy album for Lil Durk. Hitting Instagram, Durk revealed his next release would be around 13 songs.
“I’m going back to 13 songs a album y’all can have that 20+ song album,” Durk wrote. “Make hip hop fun again we understand everybody got money let’s fuck em up like we was just doing s/o the females who been working salute keep going.”
Lil Durk may not have grabbed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200, but he had a crazy week for Almost Healed. The new album launched 15 songs into the Billboard 100.
Billboard notes the album will launch at No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart. But of the album’s 21 tracks, 15 entries will hit the Hot 100, with three cracking the Top 40.
The lead single, “All My Life” sits at No. 4, with “Stand by Me” feat. Morgan Wallen arrived at No. 22 and “Pelle Coat” at No. 35.
This is the third time Durk has had at least 15 songs on the Hot 100 simultaneously in his career.
The new album officially debuts with 125,000 equivalent album units, including 122,000 in streaming equivalent album units, a total of 167.82 million on-demand streams of the tracks. Additionally, Durkio moves 2,000 in pure album sales and 1,000 in track equivalent album units.
The strong effort was not enough to push Lil Durk past Almost Healed collaborator Morgan Wallen who sits at No. 2, and Taylor Swift, who returned to the chart’s top spot.
Lil Durk explored nature over the holiday weekend. Hitting the state of Tennessee, Durkio linked with country star Morgan Wallen to go fishing. Durk and Wallen recently collaborated on the Almost Healed album.

“Durk done pulled up and taught me how to fish,” Wallen wrote in a separate post.

Lil Durk will fall just short of the No. 1 spot. Almost Healed is projected to bring in between 125,000 and 150,000 first-week units but land at No 2.
HITS Daily Double notes this will be the rapper’s sixth top 10 album and his 11th to hit the Billboard 200. The No. 1 spot goes to Taylor Swift bringing in 225-275K units with the deluxe edition of her Midnights album.

Lil Durk is coming off hot off of the release of his latest album, Almost Healed. The highly-anticipated 21-song effort boasted many features, from Billboard darlings like J. Cole and the late Juice WRLD to up-and-coming rappers like Rob49. In addition to features from Alicia Keys, 21 Savage, and Kodak Black, Durk locked in for another record with country star Morgan Wallen. The two previously locked in for 2021’s “Broadway Girls” but it’s pretty evident that their bond has gotten stronger over the years.
The collaborators dive into the world of trap country. With production from Dr. Luke, who also produced “All My Life,” the two artists serve up a bubbly anthem with “Stand By Me” intended for TikTok and Billboard success. Wallen delivers a monstrous hook on the song while Durk dives deep into heartbreak and trust issues. With both artists on the record, “Stand By Me” looks like it’ll be one of those songs that dominated Spotify and Apple Music all summer. However, shortly after releasing the collab, the two artists celebrated with a fishing trip.
Lil Durk & Morgan Wallen Go Fishing
Lil Durk and Morgan Wallen hit the ‘Gram to share some highlights from their recent attempt at fishing. However, it doesn’t seem like Durk might head back out to the waters any time soon. “Family is family can’t nothing change that p.s. I’m done with fish,” he wrote. Meanwhile, Wallen gave Durk credit for his skills. “Durk done pulled up and taught me how to fish,” he wrote in one post as he posted alongside the rapper. In another, he posed with a catch for a selfie while plugging their recent collaboration.
Although it’s too early to say whether “Broadway Girls” will hit the top of the charts, it seems like Lil Durk will find major success on the Billboard charts next week. The rapper’s projected to move 150,000 units in his first week. However, those numbers unfortunately won’t help him secure the #1 spot. With the release of Taylor Swift’s Midnight (Til Dawn Edition), Lil Durk is on pace to debut at #2 on the Billboard 200. Still an impressive feat regardless but perhaps, he’ll end up at the top of the charts if a deluxe drops in the future.
