Dwyane Wade Dedicates NAACP Award To Daughter Zaya: ‘All I’ve Wanted To Do Was Get It Right’

Screen Shot 2023 02 27 at 9.00.29 AM

Over the weekend Dwyane Wade and his wife Gabrielle Union received the prestigious Presidents Award from the NAACP at the 54th annual Image Awards.

Both gave moving speeches advocating for the Black LGBTQIA community

“I am intentional when I use my platform. I recognize what I have been given and it is my job to uplift the voices of others and share my access and resources,” Wade said.

Wade opened the speech by dedicating the award to his 15-year-old daughter, Zaya, who is transgender.

“Zaya, as your father, all I’ve wanted to do is get it right. I’ve sat back and watched how gracefully you’ve taken on the public scrutiny and, even though it’s not easy, I’ve watched you walk out of that house every morning as yourself,” Wade said.

The retired NBA star thanked his daughter for showing him “that there is more than just one way to communicate effectively.”
“You’ve taught me that communication with my mouth isn’t enough. I have to also communicate with my two ears and my two eyes,” Wade said.

Gabrielle joined by saying, “A new era that demands our collective answer to one simple question: Will we fight for some or will we fight for all of our people?” Even as we demand equality at the top of our lungs, we consistently fail to extend our advocacy to protect some of our most vulnerable among us.”

To an emotional crowd, Wade ended his speech saying that he was “proud to be chosen” as Zaya’s father.

“Zaya, you’ve made me a better human just simply by being who you were born to be, a baby girl, Zaya Wade,” he said. “So baby thank you for showing the world what courage looks like.”

On this date in 2001, Slum Village producer Jay Dee changed his name to J Dilla and released his debut solo album entitled Welcome 2 Detroit. The 16 track BBE distributed LP featured otherwise unknown artists from Dilla’s hometown such as Elzhi and Phat Kat among others.

Although it is a solo album, on several cuts, such as the first single “Pause”, Dilla takes a backseat and lets others command the mic. Dilla also sings the lead vocals on his cover of Donald Byrd’s “Think Twice”, which also has Motown crooner Dwele playing the keyboard and singing background vocals.

Salute to the late beat making icon J Dilla and the rest of his BBE family for bringing Hip Hop such an unforgettable classic!

[WATCH] Major Media Outlets Sever Ties To Creator Over Shocking Race Remarks

Screen Shot 2023 02 27 at 6.39.47 AM

Dilbert cartoonist Scott Adams calls Black people a hate group and urges white people to ‘get the hell away from them. Since the video went viral Dilbert has been dropped by more than 200 newspapers.

To name a few—The Los Angeles Times, The San Antonio Express-News, The USA Today Network, and The Plain Dealer in Cleveland have all cut ties with the cartoonist. “This is a decision based on the principles of this news organization and the community we serve,” Plain Dealer Editor Chris Quinn wrote. ”We are not a home for those who espouse racism. We certainly do not want to provide them with financial support.”

Adams experienced possibly the biggest repercussion of his recent comments about race when distributor Andrews McMeel Universal announced Sunday, Feb. 26 it would no longer work with the cartoonist. In an episode of his YouTube show last week, Adams described people who are Black as members of “a hate group” from which white people should “get away.” Various media publishers across the U.S. denounced the comments while saying they would no longer provide a platform for his work.

Andrews McMeel Chairman Hugh Andrews and CEO and President Andy Sareyan said in a joint statement that the syndication company was “severing our relationship” with Adams.

“We are proud to promote and share many different voices and perspectives. But we will never support any commentary rooted in discrimination or hate,” they said in the statement posted on the company website and Twitter.

The creator of the long-running comic that pokes fun at office-place culture defended himself on social media against those whom he said “hate me and are canceling me.”

The backlash against Adams arose following comments on “Real Coffee with Scott Adams.” Among other topics, Adams used the YouTube show to reference a Rasmussen Reports survey that had asked whether people agreed with the statement “It’s OK to be white.”

Adams, who is white, repeatedly referred to people who are Black as members of a “hate group” or a “racist hate group” and said he would no longer “help Black Americans.”

“Based on the current way things are going, the best advice I would give to white people is to get the hell away from Black people,” Adams said on his Wednesday show.

In another episode of his online show Saturday, Adams said he had been making a point that “everyone should be treated as an individual” without discrimination.

[WATCH] Hospital Fires Nurse Caught Slamming Newborn Baby In Viral Video

Screen Shot 2023 02 26 at 10.45.02 AM

A NY Hospital fired a nurse who was caught slamming a crying newborn baby into a bassinet in the NICU.
Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, NY terminated the nurse after a shocking video of the incident went viral.
“It was heartbreaking,” said baby Nikko’s mother, Consuelo Saravia. “I couldn’t stop crying, I couldn’t even sleep.”

2-day-old Nikko was in the Neonatal ICU for observation after receiving antibiotics. First-time father, Fidel Sinclair, went to see his son in the NICU and noticed him crying through a small opening in a curtain over the window.

When he began recording on his cellphone he captured a disturbing sight. A nurse grabbed baby Nikko, turned him around and slammed him face down into the bassinet.

“I don’t know, it just broke me,” said Fidel. “I didn’t know what to do.”

Fidel showed the video to Consuelo, who confronted the nurse.

Consuelo recalled the conversation: “I told her ‘I don’t want you to touch my child. You just slammed him.’ She said ‘Oh no, if you think I mishandled him or anything, I’m sorry.’”

Consuelo showed the video to other nurses and hospital administrators.

Catholic Health, which runs Good Samaritan, told NBC New York that immediate action was taken, including conducting an investigation and firing the individual involved.

“Additionally, we reported the individual to the Department of Health for further review. Keeping our patients safe remains our paramount concern.”

Fidel said he’s thankful he decided to go check on his son when he did.

“If it wasn’t for God who sent me to check on him we would have never seen any of that happen,” he said. “And It would have kept happening overnight not only to him but the other babies, too.”

He added: “I find it messed up that in a room like that they have all the curtains closed.”

Catholic Health defended the use of closed curtains in the NICU windows.

“It is standard procedure to have closed curtains in the neonatal ICU to provide privacy for the patients and their families.”

Suffolk Police say their Special Victims Unit is investigating while Baby Nikko is at home doing fine.

Zaya Wade Officially Granted Name and Gender Change on Birth Certificate

Screen Shot 2023 02 26 at 9.44.14 AM

Last year social media was in a frenzy when retired NBA player Dwyane Wade filed a legal petition to change his son Zion’s name and gender. Wade filed the petition for the new birth certificate two years after his son came out as transgender.

According to legal documents, obtained by The Blast, Wade originally asked a Los Angeles County Court judge to make the transition official, and change his child’s name from Zion Malachi Airamis Wade to Zaya Malachi Airamis Wade.

Although Zaya’s mother, Wade’s first wife Siovaugh Funches-Wade, objected to the change addresses the mother of his daughter D Wade confirmed he has full authority to make this decision. “Pursuant to the terms of the Final Custody Judgment, (Wade) has full authority to make decisions on behalf of the petitioning minor, and he is not required to receive consent from Ms. Funches-Wade. As a courtesy, Ms. Funches-Wade has received notice of this petition,” the document reads. Also, it specifically cites the reason for the change as “to conform with gender identity.”

TMZ reports that the change is now official.

According to new legal docs we obtained, an L.A. County judge just signed off on the new legal identity for Dwyane’s transgender 15-year-old.

Zion Malachi Airamis Wade is now legally Zaya Malachi Airamis Wade … and the judge also ruled in favor of her official gender change from male to female.

[WATCH] Chance The Rapper Honors Black Revolutionaries In Powerful Black History Month Tribute

Screen Shot 2023 02 25 at 12.13.31 PM

Chance The Rapper just released an alternate video for his single “YAH Know” as a celebration of Black revolutionaries who have been trailblazers in history.

The new video opens with a message that reads: “This Black History Month we want to celebrate some of the most important progress we have made as a People. This video highlights some revolutionaries and their revolutions.”

Chance’s project places the spotlight on prominent figures in Black history such as Sarah Elizabeth Ray, Kwame Nkrumah and Nandi Azikiwe alongside Marcus Garvey, Fred Hampton and Mohandas Ghandi.

The video also offers fans the opportunity to unearth even more historical context by incorporating multiple clips from the PBS miniseries History of the Negro People: The New Mood, which first aired in 1965; the 1967 documentary Black Liberation; and The Warren Years: The Great Decisions, a film which examines the 1960s Supreme Court rulings brought on by the Civil Rights Movement.
The video also includes scenes from the Black Star Line Festival, which Chance The Rapper organized with Vic Mensa.
The two Chicago natives announced the Black Star Line Festival in July 2022, explaining that the event’s name was a tribute to pan-African activist Marcus Garvey’s shipping company.

“Founded in 1919, and operated by Black people, the [Black Star Line] would link America, the Caribbean and Africa, to global shipping and tourism opportunities,” a press release for the festival explained. “The Black Star Line was a symbol of pride, not only for Africans, but also for Black people in all ports of call. After nearly 40 years, the Ghanian government launched their fleet with the same name, in homage to Garvey, and even added a black star to the country’s new flag.”

In addition to the concert at Black Star Square on Friday night, the Black Star Line Festival included a week’s worth of special events and panels, including a fireside chat between Chance The Rapper and Dave Chappelle, who discussed bringing new attention and business to local comedy clubs and his dream of one day living in Ghana, inspired by a conversation with JAY-Z.

[WATCH] Rapper Boosie Refuses To Accept Daughter’s Lesbian Lifestyle But Loves Her

Screen Shot 2023 02 25 at 10.31.16 AM

Rapper Boosie Badazz said he refuses to accept his daughter’s lesbian lifestyle. The rapper’s 21-year-old daughter Iviona, a.k.a. Poison Ivi, came out on Instagram, causing Black Twitter to announce her coming out was his “karma.”

Boosie has denounced personal choices made by Dwyane Wade‘s child Zaya Wade and aspiring rapper Lil Nas X.

In an interview with DJ Vlad on VladTV, Boosie said he refused to accept Iviona’s lifestyle because of his religious beliefs.

“Even though it won’t be accepted as far as — because I don’t want nobody in my other family to think it’s okay. But what she does, we’re gonna love her to death. But at the same time, our Southern family has never been that way.

“It’s never been accepted. But at the same time, she’s grown and she can do what the hell she wants. She’s old enough to know what she wants and that’s her.”

Boosie claims that he knew Iviona was “different” growing up, but he learned about her lesbianism on social media.

“I learned of it through social media. Like you, I woke up to it… She never came to me and talked to me about relationships,” he said.
