Judge Glanville Rules for Lyrics to be Used in YSL Trial

Here Comes the Judge: Meet Ural D. Glanville, the Judge in Charge of the Young Thug/YSL Case

With a trial date set for the YSL Rico case, a Fulton County judge ruled to allow song lyrics to be used as evidence under certain conditions.

According to WSB-TV, Judge Ural Glanville conditionally admitted 17 sets of lyrics that prosecutors can use as evidence against Young Thug and his five remaining co-defendants. There must be grounds to use the lyrics in court.

In opposition to the ruling, Young Thug’s attorney, Brian Steel, stated the decision was against free speech. Meanwhile, the prosecutor saw it as deeper.

“Your honor, someone can look at that indictment and say one thing’s for sure, that’s not fantasy, people are dead and murdered and a gang exist,” said Mike Carlson, prosecutor.

Earlier this week, another co-defendant in the YSL RICO case reached a plea deal. Derontae Bebee has accepted a 15-year sentence, split into five years in prison with ten years in probation.

According to Fox 5-Atlanta, Bebee, also known as “Bee” and “B,” agreed to the plea deal with Superior Court Judge Ural Glanville. Bebee’s attorney, Durante Partridge, stated a high level of work went into the deal. “We’ve worked very hard on this,” Partridge said.

He added, “Fifteen serve 5 versus the opportunity to serve life plus in prison, you know, we definitely moved in the right direction.”

Judge Glanville urged Bebee to set a new life for himself. “You’re 23 years old, you’ve had enough trials in your life at this point in time,” he said. “Time to be able to reclaim your own life.”

After the deal, there are six defendants, including Young Thug, set to go to trial on Nov. 27.

The jury selection in the YSL Rico cause is coming to a close. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 50 jurors have qualified for the case, and there was a selection of 12 jurors and six alternates. The trial date is expected to start on Nov. 27.

According to 11Alive, Judge Ural Glanville would begin seating the jury on Wednesday, Nov. 1. The seating comes from the Georgia speedy trial law.

Young Thug put in a request for a speedy trial after his arrest last year but the jury selection process began in January and has lasted until the decision from Glanville. The selection is considered to be “the longest in Georgia” history.

Recent attempts to secure a bond for Young Thug have been denied, as Young THug’s legal team states he is struggling with jail conditions and has gained weight.

On this day in Hip Hop history A Tribe Called Quest Released their third studio album Midnight Marauders. As the group’s most popular work, this album marked the height of Hip Hop’s Afrocentric/hippie movement.

Aside from content, this album’s cover is it’s most distinctive quality. It features a full frontal portrait of the same black, green, and red woman from the The Low End Theory cover as well as head shots of some of the more well known rappers of the time, including: Dr. Dre, Afrika Bambaataa, Busta Rhymes, Chuck D, Ice-T, Kool Moe Dee, MC Lyte, Del the Funky Homosapien, P. Diddy, Heavy D, Too $hort, The Pharcyde, The Beastie Boys, and more.

With this album, Tribe took a slight step away their heavy jazz influence to perpetuate a funkier vibe. Ali Shaheed Muhammad‘s production sounded more on this album like something you would hear on the radio in the early 90’s (with a Tribe twist of course). The largest change however came in the realm of lyricism. Over their four year quest, Q-Tip and Phife Dawg picked up linguistic skills that come full circle on this album. Their cadence, flow, and diction all show signs of improvement along with the length and depth of their metaphors. Although this album features less subject specific tracks than their previous work, the two show that they have finally figured out how to intrigued the minds of both the Hip Hop faithful and everyday music listener.

Commercially, Midnight Marauders is the A Tribe Called Quest’s highest selling album. The album sold over 1,000,000 copies within it’s first year, making it a platinum hit. It also peaked #70 on the UK album charts, #8 on the Billboard 200, and took the top spot Top R&B/Hip Hop chart.

A lot of the album’s success is due to its timeless classic of a single “Award Tour” which peaked at #47 on the Billboard Hot 100. It’s influence has spanned decades with the track being referenced by the likes of Wale, Kanye West, Common, Azealia Banks, and Justin Timberlake.

Today In Hip Hop History: Wu Tang Clan’s Debut Album ‘Enter The 36 Chambers’ Turns 30 Years Old!

On November 9th, 1993 rap music was changed forever. 9 Gods from the slums of Shaolin, who together form the Wu Tang Clan, released their first studio LP entitled Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers).
This album was recorded from 1992 to 1993 at Firehouse Studio in New York City. The album was recorded on Loud Records and distributed by RCA Records. It cost a total of $36,000 to complete.

The album’s concept was inspired heavily by the group’s love for Kung Fu flicks, particularly the 1978 Liu Chia-Liang film The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, a story about a man who set out to become the master of all 36 chambers of kung fu and reach a form of enlightenment. In the movie, the 36th chamber of kung fu is to bring the knowledge and wisdom of kung fu to the people of the entire world. For Wu-Tang Clan, that was the goal with this album.

The project was entitrely produced by the group’s leader, RZA, through the art of sampling. The beats consisted of a lot of soul And martial art samples along with sounds from early hip hop synthesizers. Lyrically, this album was nothing like anything that came before it or would come after it. I was a change from the afrocentric “boom-bap” that was prevalent in New York. It was edgy and street while remaining intellectual in content. The Wu-Tang Clan was able to synchronize their hustler mentality with the wisdom of an ancient martial arts master. Well known singles from this album include, but are not limited to, “Protect Ya Neck”, “Method Man”, and “C.R.E.A.M.”

Upon its release, in an article for The Source, The Ghetto Communicator wrote “This record is harsh, but so is the world that we live in. For B-boys n’girls who come from the core of the hard, this is the hip-hop album you’ve been waiting for”. The rest is history.

Tory Lanez Animates Court Reporter Meghan Cuniff to Promote His New Album

Tory Lanez has dropped a new video promoting the deluxe edition of his album, Alone at Prom. The video features a claymation figure resembling famed court reporter Meghann Cuniff.

Cunniff was thrust into the spotlight with her coverage of Lanez’s trial in the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. Her claymation character reports on the fictional ’80s character Ashton Rain.

The video came across Cunniff, who wondered what fans thought: “Hmmm what do you all think? Me or nah?”

Tory Lanez allegedly had a remark for court reporter Meghan Cuniff at his release hearing. Reports stated Lanez looked at the gallery and called Cuniff a “googly eyed bitch.” Cuniff spoke about the report, stating she didn’t hear it herself.

“I didn’t hear it and I’m still working to see if transcript has it, but I’ve confirmed Tory Lanez chose to use his final courtroom moments to profanely insult me, calling me ‘a googly eyed bitch’ as he looked at gallery,” Cuniff wrote. “Conflicting reports on whether he named me. A fitting end.”

Legal reported Meghann Cunnif states Los Angeles Judge David Herriford denied the request. “The motion will be denied and proceedings concluded. Thank you,” Judge Herriford said.

As Lanez left the courtroom, he smiled at his family and supporters.

New York City is gearing up for a grand celebration on Nov. 9th as it pays tribute to the legendary Wu-Tang Clan by illuminating the Empire State Building in the iconic black and yellow colors that symbolize the Wu-Tang legacy. This momentous occasion marks the 30th anniversary of the groundbreaking 1993 debut album, ‘Enter the Wu-Tang’ (36 Chambers). In honor of this historic event, Mayor Eric Adams has officially declared November 9th as “Wu-Tang Day” in New York City.

Wu-Tang Clan, comprising influential rap artists such as RZA, GZA, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killa, Inspectah Deck, U-God, and Masta Killa, revolutionized hip-hop with their seminal debut album ‘Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers),’ released on November 9, 1993. The collective’s immense impact transcended music, extending into fashion with their iconic Wu Wear clothing line, film, publishing, video games, and production companies. Jake Paul is already set to get back in the ring. The 7-1 boxing star will face Andre August on Friday, Dec. 15, from Orlando, FL. The fight will be an 8-round cruiserweight battle.

According to Most Valuable Promotions, August is 10-1-1 on a fight-fight win streak and has more knockouts than any opponent for Paul before. The tickets are set to go on sale this Friday, Dec. 15.

After suffering his first professional loss in February against Tommy Fury, Paul bounced back with a resounding unanimous decision victory against combat sports icon Nate Diaz in August. Now, Jake Paul is more determined than ever to achieve his goal of becoming a world champion.

Paul’s impressive journey in boxing has earned him numerous accolades, including ESPN Ringside’s 2021 Knockout of The Year and Sports Illustrated’s 2021 Breakout Boxer of the Year. Duane “Keffe D” Davis Receives June Trial Date for Murder of Tupac Shakur

Duane 'Keffe D' Davis Charged with One Count of Murder

The trial for Duane “Keffe D” Davis in the murder of Tupac Shakur will begin in Nevada on June 3. Keffe D will also be facing a charge for intent to assist a criminal gang.

Keffe D made a court appearance on Tuesday (Nov. 6), speaking with court-appointed attorneys and entering a plea of not guilty.

According to the AP, Keffe D’s attorneys, Charles Cano and Robert Arroyo, will file documents to secure bail before trial.

Suge Knight says he will not take the stand against Duane “Keffe D” Davis after the latter was arrested and charged with the murder of Tupac Shakur.

According to TMZ, Knight stated he was surprised but would not testify.

“I’m not gonna get on the stand and testify on somebody,” Knight said. “For what? I wouldn’t go, I wouldn’t testify. None of that shit.”

“There’s been many people who did not believe that the murder of Tupac Shakur was important to this police department,” said Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McMahill. “I am here to tell you that that was simply not the case.”

According to famed court reporter Meghan Cuniff, Davis’s role is “by directly committing this crime” or aiding and abetting by giving the gun used. Also named in the indictment are his nephew Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson and two other men. All of them are dead.

New York City Joins the Celebration

New York City is unleashing a series of celebratory activations for Wu-Tang Clan’s 30th anniversary, including RZA’s The 36 Chambers 30th Anniversary Celebration at New York’s Gramercy Theatre from November 7-9. On Thursday, Nov 9th, 36 Chambers will host a pop-up shop in the East Village, offering signed copies of RZA’s graphic novel, “Bobby Digital and The Pit Of Snakes,” along with other apparel, records, toys, and collectibles. Additionally, the Hip-Hop Education Center (HHEC), Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, and 36 Chambers ALC will present a special screening of the new documentary “A Wu-Tang Experience: Live at Red Rocks Amphitheatre” on Wednesday, November 15 at 7:00 pm.
