On the latest episode of the Collect Call From Suge Knight podcast, the former Death Row Records CEO explains how he acquired illegal weapons for N.W.A. co-founder and music mogul Dr. Dre, but the said acquisition landed him behind bars on federal gun charges.

Suge talked about a convo with an unnamed person about getting guns for Dre and Snoop during the 1993 The Chronic Tour, saying, “I stopped Dre from getting a lot of time for beating up a gang of bitches and all the shit he was doing that made me… you know. My fed case is behind Dre. If I had to do it all over again I still would do it again because that’s the kind of man I am. The other person, I don’t keep it 1,000 and keep it gangsta because of the next muthafucka, I keep it because that’s my DNA.”

He continued, “So what ended up happening in that situation, a guy called me and said, ‘Hey, Dre want this type of gun. Snoop want this type of gun. Y’all getting ready to go on The Chronic Tour?’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ [He said], ‘What kind you want?’ [I said], ‘I don’t need one.’ He adds, “I gave him the business manager number. The guy calls the business manager. The business manager wires the money for Dre’s guns to a guy who will give him the guns. A year or two later, on my birthday, they arrested me. The feds.”

“I go to court, David Kenner come and see me,” he said. “He shows me that, ‘Hey, [you] can get out, but Dre gon’ do the time, because his business manager is the one that got the money. He can do the time. He [inaudible] behind the shit.’ I said, ‘Fuck it, could you get him probation?’ David Kenner said, ‘Probably not.’ He said, ‘Maybe.’

“I said, ‘Tell you what: either try to get me probation, or if I gotta do a year or two, these muthafuckas better be in the studio working.’ So I got David Chesnoff out of Las Vegas representing me also because that’s where he was from. I got probation, which I end up doing time for that. Had nothing to do with me. So I don’t regret doing anything for people [I] fuck with, ’cause that’s what you supposed to do.”

Suge is currently doing a 28-year stretch for the 2015 murder of Terry Carter on the set of Straight Outta Compton. Knight will be eligible for parole in 2034.

DJ Premier And Common Drop Visuals For “In Moe” (Speculation)

unnamed 3

Before the surprise surprise release of Beats That Collected Dust, Vol. 3 in September, it had been over a decade (Vol. 2 was released in 2011) since DJ Premier released a volume of the fan-favorite series.

As is the case with every Volume, every beat has its own unique origin story; from who they initially may have been produced for, to why they ended up collecting “dust.”  The beats may be dusty, but they still bang, and one of Beats That Collected Dust, Vol. 3 standouts, “In Moe,” has now added another chapter to its story, as the instrumental has been graced with vocals from legendary multi-hyphenate Common.

While it’s been far too long since they last collaborated, Preem and Common demonstrate they still “play life and music in the same key,” and just like they did with “The 6th Sense” (the lead single from Common’s classic, and Grammy Nominated Like Water For Chocolate album), DJ Premier and Common catch lightning in a bottle again with “In Moe” (Speculation).  “In Moe” (Speculation) is now available at all DSP’s and you can now watch the video below.

“In October, I posted a clip of me playing the “In Moe” (Instrumental) Vinyl on IG, and the comments went crazy.  It’s currently at 4.4 million views.  Artists like Busta Rhymes, Action Bronson, and Common said they would love to rhyme on it” DJ Premier shares.

“Common delivered a dope verse that same week. On the night of the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame event, Chaka Khan went on her IG Live during her induction and brought Common onstage during her performance to do the Melle Mel verse of “I Feel For You.”  I called him the next morning to see if we could do a video at my studio while he was still in NY.  We only had a short window, due to me going to 45 King’s funeral, and then to another wake later that night for my co-manager’s father-in-law.  The energy was very positive that day, and we accomplished the mission. “

In addition to their new single and video “In Moe” (Speculation) being released (Common’s first new single in over two years), Premier will also be performing at tonight’s 24th Annual Latin Grammy Awards in Seville, Spain.  Preem will perform alongside Feid, as their collaboration, “Le Pido A Dios,” is nominated for Best Hip-Hop/Rap Song.

Today In Hip-Hop History: Ice Cube Released His Third LP ‘The Predator’ 31 Years Ago

Ice Cube The Predator Album Cover

On this day in 1992, gangsta rapper turned actor/filmmaker Ice Cube released his most successful solo album The Predator. Released months after the 1992 Los Angeles riots, this album follows the same tone that existed in Ice Cube’s music from his solo beginning; Black power against any form of oppression. Although the album was very graphic, it still had a great reception among the commercial audience, debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart (despite his blatant diss of the Billboard editor on the album’s title track) and selling 193,000 copies in its first week.

The mood of this album was set by the era of violence that was going on in Los Angeles, California. Every song has an element of the type of violence that was going on in the hood between and against Black people incorporated through interludes or references. Even his more peaceful tracks have an air of criminal paranoia about them. Regardless, The Predator is still slightly toned down from his prior two releases AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted and Death Certificate, which you can by the titles more outwardly push the militant mindset that Ice Cube has as a recording artist.

This album also toted two #1 rap singles, “It Was a Good Day” and “Check Yo Self”. “It Was a Good Day” is to date Ice Cube’s most successful single. The track peaked #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1993 and sold 600,000 copies. Outside of commercial success, this album is forever a part of pop culture history voted #8 on VH1‘s Top Rap Songs list. “Check Yo Self” was also ridiculously successful, selling 500,000 copies and peaking at #20 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The Predator LP is a masterpiece and has the sales to prove it. This album has so far gone double platinum and with the success of the film Straight Outta Compton, there is no reason why sales figures should not increase over the next few months. As anyone up-to-date in Hip Hop culture should know, with the success of this album, Ice Cube went on to be an entertainment mogul directing, writing and producing successful films, appearing on television, and releasing six more studio LPs that have all done pretty well in their sales all appearing on the Billboard 200 in the top 20%.

Travis Scott Says Creating Music Was ‘Therapeutic’ After Astroworld Tragedy

travis scott fans

Travis Scott is featured in the GQ Men of the Year issue and opens up about the Astroworld tragedy. In the feature, he says he always thinks about the tragedy because “those fans were like my family.” He also addressed whether the album should have reflected on the tragedy.

“Making music, you think about things that go on in life and things that happen in your life, and you dial in on things,” Scott said. “That moment for families, for the city, you know, it was devastating. And when it came to making, like even finishing the album…I got back into it probably like, I don’t know, months and months and months after. And the idea of just even getting back into music, working on music and just even getting into that, was therapeutic of being able to channel some of the energy into production and sounds and finishing it.”

The Kid LAROI Unveils Personal Struggles and Growth in Apple Music Interview

The Kid LAROI sits down with Zane Lowe on Apple Music for an intimate discussion about his journey to stardom and his latest album, THE FIRST TIME.

Candidly addressing fears of financial loss and public embarrassment, LAROI delves into the impact of anxiety on family relationships. The artist, known for his authenticity, credits Justin Bieber for teaching him vulnerability.

I told Justin this all the time is that when I first met him, one of the things that was so jarring to me at first, but something that was so beautiful that over time I’ve picked up and I’ve implemented into my own life because of him, thanks to him, is when I first came to his house to play basketball with him and his friends. They were so positive and so loving and so open and so vulnerable, and I wasn’t used to that. Even just the way I would grab the ball and I’d miss a shot and Justin would come pat me on the back and be like, “It’s all good, bro. Next shot. You got that,” and that’s not how I played basketball with my friends. You know what I’m saying? But it was so cool…I remember leaving there and just being like, “Whoa.” I just remember being just jarred. I don’t know what’s going on. And over time, as we kept hanging out and just the way he was able to showcase his vulnerability and open up to me, and that encouraged me to want to be more vulnerable and open up and want to own my feelings more and own the way I feel and how honest he is about who he is. And that is his thing. He is so honest about who he is and how he feels, even if, I mean whatever it is, he really owns that. And I think that’s something that I took and I was like, “Wow, that is so admirable.” And I saw the effect it had on me just being around that. And so I want to take that… I want to encourage that…

– The Kid LAROI on Justin Bieber

Reflecting on Juice WRLD’s loss, LAROI pays homage on “WHERE DOES YOUR SPIRIT GO.” Formerly needing to fulfill mass expectations, LAROI now prioritizes authenticity, embracing the freedom to pursue his desires openly.

I wanted to just capture how I was feeling. I mean, obviously that was the first step. And I think what comes with a lot of death and grief is obviously sadness, but anger as well. Not only just anger for the events of death, but anger towards yourself and regret of like, damn, I wish I had told this person this, or damn, I wish I did this differently. I wish I had… And a lot of that. You can tend to project and I think that was the thing. It was like, when I say in the song, “How could you build me up just to leave me now?” We have so much to do and then you’re going to leave? … that’s a feeling that you feel at some point, as not accurate as that is… But that’s how you feel. I think at points of grief, it’s like f**k, you feel anger, right?  Juice and I… that was big bro, but I was 15 and he was 20. So there is a dynamic of, as a kid, you’re a fan and you’re like, now this guy I guess would be big bro. And now I get to travel everywhere and there’s just that sense of you’re kind of just happy to be there and move in with the flow. And one thing that I always wished I think was that I was like, damn, I wish there was in another universe. I’ve met Juice now with going through what I’ve gone through and knowing what I know…he’s quite a special guy, we don’t have to get into it now, but he’s a guy who’s helped me so much

Chad Ochocino Says He Popped Viagra and Drank Red Bull for a Boost Before NFL Games

Chad Ochocino has revealed that he used a combination of Viagra and Red Bull to be faster on game day.

Ochocino shares a podcast with Shannon Sharpe called Nightcap, detailing the night in football. During a recent episode, Ochocinco revealed what half a blue pill chased by Red Bull would do for you.

“It’s an enhancement with the increasing blood flow to improve performance horizontally, depending on how you do it,” Ochocinco said. “I don’t know what you do at home, but to improve, yeah, they work too. Stay with me now. If you take half a pill before a game with a little bit of Red Bull, it increases the blood flow, which enhances performance.”

Diddy Sued by Cassie for Sexual Assault, Abuse & More; Diddy Also Allegedly Blew Up Kid Cudi’s Car

Sean 'Diddy' Combs Rebrands Combs Enterprises to Combs Global as Business Portfolio Expands

Diddy is being sued by his former lover Cassie, stating she was rapped and sex trafficked during their relationship. Cassie, born Casandra Ventura, filed the suit in New York City, stating she was the victim of a “cycle of abuse, violence and sex trafficking.

Included in the lawsuit was a 2018 rape, which Cassie stated as Diddy attempted to prevent her from leaving him.

“After years in silence and darkness, I am finally ready to tell my story, and to speak up on behalf of myself and for the benefit of other women who face violence and abuse in their relationships,” Cassie said in a statement. “With the expiration of New York’s Adult Survivors Act fast approaching, it became clear that this was an opportunity to speak up about the trauma I have experienced and that I will be recovering from for the rest of my life.”

In a sharp reply to PEOPLE, Diddy’s lawyer Ben Brafman, stated all the claims are “offensive and outrageous.”

“Mr. Combs vehemently denies these offensive and outrageous allegations. Ms. Ventura’s demand of $30 million, under the threat of writing a damaging book about their relationship, was unequivocally rejected as blatant blackmail,” Brafman said. “Despite withdrawing her initial threat, Ms. Ventura has now resorted to filing a lawsuit riddled with baseless and outrageous lies, aiming to tarnish Mr. Combs’ reputation, and seeking a pay day.”

The complaint was first reported by The New York Times, highlighting the suit leads with a trigger warning. Additional disturbing claims included Cassie being beaten by Diddy, forced sex acts with male sex workers while he filmed and masturbated to the encounters, threats via firearms, and blowing up another recording artist’s car for having an interest in the singer.

A full run of the claims can be seen in the documents below.

[WATCH] Benzino Snaps On IG Live: ‘Yeah I Called You For Money’

Screen Shot 2023 11 16 at 10.33.08 AM

This week has seen a publicized rift between rapper Coi Leray and her father, Benzino, unraveling on social media and in interviews. The dispute began after Coi Leray discussed her relationship with her father in a recent interview, where she claimed that Benzino harbored envy towards her success. However, Benzino vehemently denied these allegations, accusing his daughter of perpetuating a false narrative and even suggesting that the interview was manipulated to create tension.

In the interview that sparked the controversy, Coi Leray expressed her belief that her father was envious of her accomplishments in the music industry. This prompted Benzino to publicly refute these claims, asserting that he was not envious and accusing his daughter of misrepresenting their relationship. He also took aim at radio personality Angie Martinez, alleging that she purposefully fueled the flames during the interview.

Adding fuel to the fire, Benzino shared a video attempting to debunk some of Coi Leray’s assertions about her life before finding success in the rap industry. He contested her claims of sleeping in cars and selling drugs, vehemently stating, “She ain’t ever slept in no cars or sold drugs. I don’t know why she’s running with this narrative,” in the video.

In an attempt to de-escalate the situation, Coi Leray addressed the ongoing feud earlier today. She urged her father to respect the privacy of their family matters, emphasizing that the interview took place in June, and she had refrained from commenting further until now. Leray expressed her desire to keep their family issues offline, urging for a more private resolution.
Despite Coi Leray’s call for a truce, Benzino has once again responded to his daughter’s statements, further prolonging the public dispute. Whether through social media or another medium, he continues to engage in the ongoing conversation, keeping the tension alive.

As their family drama unfolds on social media and through public statements, it remains to be seen whether the family will find a resolution behind closed doors or if their personal matters will continue to be aired for public consumption.

The saga serves as a reminder that even in the world of fame and success, family dynamics can play out in a very public and often messy manner.

Thoughts?
