LaTavia Roberson Defends Beyoncé’s Country Music Venture Amidst Controversy

Screen Shot 2024 02 19 at 10.31.57 AM

Beyoncé found herself at the center of controversy last week once again when a radio station in Oklahoma refused to play her latest singles, ’16 Carriages’ and ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’, sparking public outcry and debate about the boundaries of music genres.

The controversy intensified when former ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ actor and country singer, John Schneider, voiced his disapproval of Beyoncé’s venture into country music, equating it to a dog peeing on their tree and suggesting that leftists were attempting to infiltrate the country music scene.

However, the backlash didn’t go unanswered. LaTavia Roberson, former member of Destiny’s Child alongside Beyoncé, came out swinging in defense of her former bandmate. Roberson, a Texas native, expressed her disgust at Schneider’s comments, highlighting the significant role of country music in Texan culture and emphasizing the participation of African Americans in events like The Texas Livestock Show & Rodeo.

In a viral response to Schneider’s crude analogy, Roberson emphasized the importance of respecting diverse musical expressions and cultural traditions. She called out Schneider’s remarks as “disgusting and disrespectful,” urging him to recognize the rich heritage and contributions of African Americans to country music.

Roberson’s impassioned defense of Beyoncé’s foray into country music sparked a conversation about inclusivity and representation in music genres. As Beyoncé continues to push boundaries and explore new artistic avenues, Roberson’s response serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of embracing diversity and challenging narrow-minded perspectives.

Despite the initial pushback, Beyoncé’s singles eventually gained traction on the radio station in Oklahoma after public pressure forced them to reconsider their decision. The incident serves as a testament to the enduring influence of Beyoncé and the unwavering support of her fans, as she fearlessly navigates new creative territories as a reminder of her true talent.

Happy 54th Birthday To DITC Founder Lord Finesse!

Being an advocate for true school Hip Hop, there is no way I can let this day end without showing respect to the legendary Lord Finesse on his 54th birthday. The DITC founder was born on this day in 1970, right as a wave of a culture representing new music and lifestyles was spawning; now known as Hip Hop. With four albums under his belt and an infinite amount of lives touched/inspired, Finesse’s legacy still reigns supreme to those who can’t embrace the old school enough.

If you’re reading this post and asking yourself, “Isn’t he the guy that went to court with Mac Miller?” then I highly suggest you take some time to checkout the videos after the jump. Finesse has been around since the beginning and amongst the saturation of new emcees, I feel a lot of the younger generation has lost motivation to search and support these founders.

Today In Hip Hop History: GZA Released His Debut Album ‘Words From The Genius’ 33 Years Ago

On this day in Hip Hop History in 1991, Wu-Tang Clan member GZA released his debut, pre Wu-Tang album Words From the Genius. This album was one of two pre Wu-Tang Clan albums from one of the members, the other being Ooh, I Love You Rakeem EP from RZA (then called Prince Rakeem).

This album was originally released under Cold Chillin’ Records. When asked about this release in an interview, GZA recalled:

“I was signed to Cold Chillin’ ’bout five years ago. They put out an album but didn’t promote it. They tried to put it out again last year [1994] after everything happened with the Clan, put a ’94 date on it, but still didn’t put any money behind it, so it didn’t sell twice. I’m still proud of it, though. The beats ain’t all that , but lyrically, s*** was bangin’. So it wasn’t all peaches and cream, but I was determined to break though. A quitter never wins, and a winner never quits. “

As GZA stated the album was re-released in 1994 with a updated track list and again in 2006 as an expansion version under Traffic Entertainment Group, the owner of majority of Cold Chillin’ Records’ catalog.

This particular project was not the usual hardcore, heavy sampled, Shaolin sound that any Wu-Tang fan would be accustomed to. The beat selection on this project is more leaning toward the classic boom-bap sound of the early 90s. His lyricism however is just as sharp as ever. The subject mater of this project is true to the name. GZA spits pure knowledge and righteousness regarding to everyday situations of an individual living in the projects of New York.

After this project, GZA went on to join the Grammy Award winning rap group Wu-Tang Clan, formed by his cousin RZA. He continued to have a successful career releasing six studio albums.

Salute to GZA for this piece of Hip Hop history!

One of the biggest artists in the world delivered a great country record for us to have fun with, and the song is really good. We are in the business of creating excitement for our listeners and I’m embracing the moment. Plus, there is plenty of room for great artists, even from other genres. It’s a big country tent.”

Benzino Rants About Eminem on Drink Champs: ‘What the F*** Can He Do to Me?’

Benzino Rants About Eminem on Drink Champs

We will never live in a world where Eminem and Benzino have stopped talking about each other. Benzino pulled up to Drink Champs and once again spoke about his former foe.

“F**k Eminem and fuck everybody down with Eminem,” Benzino opened. “My thing is, that n**a won’t face me. When we was in Puerto Rico I was with west with a gun on the dashboard and we caught Green Lantern outside the DJ convention. Don’t f**k around with me.

“We come from a whole different trenches. That n***a ain’t us.”

You can hear Benzino’s rant and ask “What the f**k can he do to me?” below.

In January, Eminem had time. Dropping off “Doomsday Pt. 2,” Slim Shady launches a full-on assault on Benzino, harkening back to the days when Benzino once owned The Source.

Now I got a riddle, one condition, you mustn’t laugh
What is the opposite of Benzino? A giraffe
“Go at his neck,” how the fuck is that?
How can I go at somethin’ he doesn’t have?
Arm so short he can’t even touch his hands
When they’re above his head doin’ jumpin’ jacks
Sorry, I don’t mean to upset you, Ben’
When I talk about all the debt you in
I hear that you been creepin’ on the low
In them cheap hotels, that they catch you in
Jesus Christ, dawg, when you said two-ten
Never guessed you meant at the Red Roof Inn
In a room with one single bed, two men
Shady, man, you can’t—, yes, you can
Well, I guess then I regret to inform you, hate to spoil the day
But this doesn’t bring me no joy to say
Guess that Coi Leray feat’s in the toilet, ayy?
Damage due to flows, collateral, I s’pose
Gat-pointed like mine and Sandra Bullock’s nose
Yeah, them bullet holes, have you full of those
You’ll catch a stray like animal control, plan a funeral
I’ma probably have to plan a few neurological exams
Once again, it is off into that damn padded room I go

In April 2023, Benzino reflected on his beef with Eminem. According to the rapper, the late Michael Jackson thanked him for dissing Slim Shady back in the day.

Popping up on The Gauds Show podcast, Benzino claims MJ praised him for the diss after Eminem made light of the situation where Michael Jackson once caught on fire. That moment was in the “Just Lose It” video.

“I met Mike through Teddy [Riley]. He called me and he thanked me. Because when Eminem dissed him with the fire situation, in the video, Mike called and I remember his assistant put him on the phone and I sat there and listened to him. And he thanked me.”

Kelly Osbourne Applauds Weight-Loss Drug Ozempic as Alternative to Gym Workouts

Screen Shot 2024 02 18 at 9.46.22 AM

Kelly Osbourne, the 39-year-old daughter of iconic rocker Ozzy Osbourne, has stirred controversy with her recent comments praising the weight-loss drug Ozempic as a preferable alternative to traditional gym workouts.

In an exclusive interview with E! News at Dolly Parton’s Pet Gala red carpet, the aspiring singer shared her support for individuals who opt to use Ozempic, a medication primarily prescribed for diabetes management, as a means of shedding excess weight.

“I think it’s amazing,” Kelly expressed to E! News. “There are a million ways to lose weight, why not do it through something that isn’t as boring as working out?”

However, Kelly’s endorsement of Ozempic was not without criticism of its detractors. She suggested that those who speak negatively about the drug may secretly desire its benefits or feel frustrated by its high cost, which can exceed $1,000 per month.

“People hate on it because they want to do it. And the people who hate on it the most are the people who are secretly doing it or pissed off that they can’t afford it,” Kelly asserted.

Despite acknowledging the drug’s expense, Kelly emphasized her belief that Ozempic’s effectiveness justifies its cost. She anticipates that as its popularity grows, its price may become more accessible to a broader demographic.

“Unfortunately, right now it’s something that is very expensive but it eventually won’t be because it actually works,” Kelly remarked.

Kelly’s advocacy for Ozempic comes in the wake of her own struggles with weight loss and body image. Following the birth of her son Sidney in 2022, Kelly admitted to feeling pressure to shed the postpartum weight, describing it as an obsession.

“I’m going to be honest, I felt the pressure of after having the baby to lose the baby weight,” Kelly revealed to E! News last fall. “It became my mission. I was obsessed with it because I didn’t even want to get brought into the conversation, I just wanted to be left alone.”

Kelly disclosed that her experience with Ozempic resulted in significant weight loss, with her reportedly dropping 100 pounds. While she acknowledges the drug’s role in her weight loss journey, her endorsement has sparked debate about the broader implications of using pharmaceutical interventions for cosmetic purposes.
