Candace Owens on Beyoncé’s Country Music: ‘She’s More Country Than Taylor Swift Ever Was’

Candace Owens on Beyoncé’s Country Music: 'She's More Country Than Taylor Swift Ever Was'

Can you believe Candace Owens is supporting Beyoncé’s Country music? In the latest episode of The Candace Owens Podcast, Ownes details Queen Bey’s country history.

“Some people are saying that this is not very country,” Candace says. “I’m going to defend Beyoncé on that point because Beyoncé’s kind of always been country. She’s more country than Taylor Swift ever was for sure. Beyoncé is from Houston, Texas. She’s always had a twang… [Taylor Swift] put on a fake twang. Everyone was okay with it. You can’t say that Taylor Swift can do it, and Beyonce can’t.”

All hail Queen Bey as she once again presides over the Billboard Hot 100. Beyoncé has taken over the top spot on the single’s chart with “Texas Hold ‘Em.”

The single is the ninth chart-topper for Beyoncé, her most recent being “Break My Soul” in 2022.

According to Luminate, “Texas Hold ‘Em” saw significant growth in various metrics during the tracking week of Feb. 16-22. The song garnered 29 million streams, marking a 51% increase, and received 16.1 million radio airplay audience impressions, experiencing a remarkable surge of 233%. Additionally, the track sold 29,000 downloads, albeit experiencing a decrease of 25%. With these impressive statistics, “Texas Hold ‘Em” earned the distinction of being the top Streaming and Airplay Gainer on the Hot 100 chart.

Over the weekend, Dolly Parton saluted Beyoncé’s musical foray into country. “I’m a big fan of Beyoncé and very excited that she’s done a country album,” Parton wrote on Instagram. “So congratulations on your Billboard Hot Country number one single.”

She added, “Can’t wait to hear the full album!”

Last week, Beyoncé made her appearance on the country music charts. One of the singles released during the Super Bowl, “Texas Hold ‘Em,” was promoted to country radio and became her first entry to the Billboard Country Airplay chart.

“Texas Hold ‘Em” started at No. 54 with a 1.1 million audience across 100 stations. According to Billboard, Columbia Nashville emailed the single to country stations.

While some radio stations balked at including Beyoncé’s new single in their rotations, Bo Matthews, program director of KBAY in San Jose, immediately added the single.

“We immediately added it [in] a sub-power rotation, which is where we put top-trending new music,” Matthews said. “I want people to hear it. One of the biggest artists in the world delivered a great country record for us to have fun with, and the song is really good. We are in the business of creating excitement for our listeners and I’m embracing the moment. Plus, there is plenty of room for great artists, even from other genres. It’s a big country tent.”

“Texas Hold ‘Em” also hit No. 38 on the Pop airplay channel.

Ye & Ty$ Spent 3 Months In Saudi Arabia Recording ‘Vultures 1’, Says Camper

Ye & Ty$ Spent 3 Months In Saudi Arabia Recording ‘Vultures 1’, Says Camper

There is so much that goes behind a hit record that people don’t see, and most of the time, those individuals are the most pivotal pieces to the puzzle.

Insert Camper, the songwriter and producer who had the pleasure of spending three months in Saudi Arabia with Ye and Ty$ for the making of Vultures 1. The project peaked at the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 albums charts and remains there today.

Camper is best known for his work with some of the most well-respected names in the music industry, including Brandy, H.E.R., Jay Z, Big Sean, and more. Last year, Camper won a Grammy as Coco Jones’ “ICU” won Best R&B Performance. But the accolades don’t mean anything; Camper keeps on working.

The Source had the opportunity to chat with Camper about his involvement in the new Ye and Ty$ album, Vultures 1. The beauty lies in that all five songs he worked on for the project are charting on the Billboard Hot 100, which serves as a first throughout his entire career.

The SOURCE: So all five songs from that album are charting?

Camper: All five songs that I produced with Ye and Ty$ are on the Hot 100 charts right now as we speak. Including a song I produced with Kanye called “Talking,” featuring North West. Kanye West’s daughter. That’s her first time being charted on the Hot 100 charts, at #30. All the moments continue to go together.

How did you get back in with Ye?

With a phone call, his team reached out, and I was there. It was that simple because we already worked together when I was 20. A few years after that, I went to Hawaii with him to work with John Legend, Pusha T, Teyana Taylor, Rick Ross. We was all out there working together, so we always had a relationship. We was always cool. There were moments when I’d see him, then I haven’t seen him in 8 years after that. Then came back together and did this. A lot of growth with the both of us, but I’m happy we took time apart to come back together for a time like this.

Were you producing or songwriting on the project?

Producing. Then on one of the songs, I’m singing. On “Stars.”

What’s the vibe in the studio for this project?

It’s amazing. It’s lessons man. He’s like Michael Jordan to me. He understands what it takes. He’s brave, he’s ambitious. He’s very passionate. I’m sitting right next to him soaking all the game up. I’m learning how to put it into what I’m doing, so it’s a great experience.

What was the biggest lesson you learned from this project?

Be yourself. Never fold. Never stop. Never settle either. Because now, he’s the biggest he’s ever been. Independently too. People counted him out, he bet on himself every time. That’s just that: staying true to who you are and believing in yourself.

What’s your relationship with Ty$?

Amazing, he’s my brother. I love him to death. If you ask him about me, he’ll say the same thing. I love him so much, he’s a big brother to me. He’s there when I need them. We have a lot of music coming together. Even if we never did anything else again musically, he’s still one of my great brothers and I really appreciate it. Fire man, he’s my dawg.

What was the greatest memory from creating Vultures 1?

Ye would have the studio setup in a big ass suite. Big suite and speakers, we’re all there. Me, Ye, Ty$ next to me. North West beside Ye. We’re all sitting like we’re front row at the fucking runway show in Fashion Week. We’re watching movies, listening to songs. We’ll go to an amazing restaurant, then we’ll go out to the dunes. The dirt road, we’ll ride 4-wheelers in the dirt. 3am, 4am in the morning. We’ll go home and catch the Saudi Arabia breakfast.

I forget the hotel we were staying at, but they had a fire breakfast. 6am every morning, the best scrambled eggs I’ve ever had in my life. Really all this stuff together, working on songs then stay up all night. Go to a private party, private event. We’ll chill, then we’ll catch the breakfast in the morning. Oh my God, amazing.

How long were you out there for?

Three months.

That’s where the project was made? Saudi Arabia?

Well they started in Japan. They went to Italy. From Italy, went to Saudi Arabia. We were in Saudi Arabia, then moved to a city in Saudi Arabia called AlUla. We were there, that’s where all the mountains — it was nothing but dirt and tipis and tents. Just rocks. Big rock boulders. Aw man, the best way to see stars. I saw shooting stars every two minutes, it’s clear.

Why Saudi Arabia?

I don’t know. I have no idea because we couldn’t smoke. We couldn’t drink. We couldn’t do anything. I was a purist out there. Couldn’t do anything, I’m like damn!

Do you get a one way flight? You don’t know when you’re coming back?
Don’t know nothing.

What do you pack?

Well, we had to wear black. That was the uniform [for Vultures]. That’s what he wants to do. He’s been doing that for a while now. I don’t know why, but that’s what he wants and that’s what we do. We’re at war, so we have to wear all black. I guess that’s the mentality he has. We outside.

I know Kanye is your hero. Do you sit there like damn, how am I here?

Yeah, gratitude. Yo, I can’t believe I’m here right now. But at the same time, I don’t really get too wrapped up in that because you gotta believe that you’re here. You got to. You pinch yourself from dreaming like alright well you’re about to get hurt. Because this is real, I’m here for a reason. I’m happy that I’m called upon to reason with you, to go there with you, to see your vision through and all of that. He’s counting on me, like I’m counting on him. That’s a beautiful understanding.

How is it celebrating the success of the project?

I haven’t yet. I’ve been working. My head is still down. I’m not even worrying about the success yet. Although I’m breaking records right now that I never did in my career myself personally, I’m still so focused on the next thing. I’m not even worried about that shit.

You have over 20 Grammy nominations. Are you keeping count?

No. [laughs] I’ma have some more next year.

EXCLUSIVE: Jon B. On Tupac Studio Session: “He Was A Ball Of Energy”

Jon B. On Tupac Studio Session: “He Was A Ball Of Energy”

When it comes to R&B, artists like Jon B. remind us that the genre is far from dead, it’s alive now more than ever.

With a career spanning three decades, Jon B. is best known for his timeless hits such as “They Don’t Know,” “Are U Still Down?”, “I Do,” and many more. With endless plaques to his name, the recording artist is best known for his exceptional vocals and songwriting skills, which still hold strong to this day.

Most recently, Jon B. hosted an event in Los Angeles with Glass House Brands, delivering an intimate performance of both old and new records. He also did a Q&A prior, touching on everything from the standout features on his new project to having an album with DJ Quik to being the last artist to perform with Tupac.

Speaking on the vibes in the studio with Tupac, Jon B. states, “Tupac had the energy of an absolute — he was a ball of energy. From the moment that I got there, I had all of the equipment that I needed to produce the track myself, so I was ready to show him what I had. As far as if I need to cook this up from the beginning, it’s all good. I’m ready.”

He continues: “But before I did that, I said ‘play me some something that you have. You got anything in mind that we might could rock already?’ The first beat that he played me was the beat to ‘Are U Still Down?’ Which was produced by legendary producer Johnny J. Rest in peace Johnny J. That beat spoke to me right away. This is my Marvin Gaye joint right here. This is my ‘Midnight Love’, this is my ‘Sexual Healing’. This is a record right here I can fuck with.”

“Instantaneously, I said ‘Put that down. Let’s start writing to it,” and we started to do that,” Jon B. explains.

“Are U Still Down?” serves as the only song Jon B. and Tupac did together physically in the studio.

In terms of new music, fans can expect Jon B.’s forthcoming project titled Waiting on You, with features from Rick Ross, Tank, Donell Jones, and Alex Isley.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Fights Back Against Assault Allegations, Claims Violation of Constitutional Rights and Cancel Culture

diddy

Last week, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs found himself at the center of a legal battle as he faced a lawsuit filed by a Jane Doe accusing him of a 20-year-old assault. However, Combs is not backing down without a fight. In a recent development, he has claimed that the lawsuit violates his constitutional rights and portrays him as a victim of cancel culture.

According to reports from All Hip Hop, an addendum filed on behalf of Sean Combs on February 23 by Daddy’s House Recordings, Inc., and Bad Boy Entertainment Holdings, Inc., reiterated their argument for the dismissal of the civil action brought against them by Jane Doe. The lawsuit alleges a single cause of action under New York City’s Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence (VGM) Protection Law.

In the memorandum submitted to the court, Combs’ lawyer, Jonathan Davis, expressed concern over the irreparable harm caused to the defendants’ reputations due to the lawsuit. Davis pointed out that the legal action has subjected Combs and his associated entities to the detrimental effects of ‘cancel culture’ long before any evidence has been presented. He highlighted that the allegations made against Combs are uncorroborated and lack substantial evidence.

The term ‘cancel culture’ refers to the act where individuals or entities face public ostracism, often on social media platforms, due to their alleged misconduct or controversial statements. Critics argue that cancel culture can lead to unfair and disproportionate consequences for those accused, without proper investigation or due process.

Combs’ legal team’s assertion that the lawsuit has turned them into victims of cancel culture frenzy underscores the challenges faced by individuals and organizations when dealing with allegations in the public eye. The case brings to light broader discussions surrounding accountability, due process, and the impact of social media on legal proceedings.

As the legal battle unfolds, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs continues to maintain his innocence and defend his reputation against the decades-old assault allegations. The outcome of this case will likely have implications not only for Combs but also for the broader discourse surrounding cancel culture and the pursuit of justice in the digital age.

Thoughts?

Screen Shot 2024 02 26 at 11.19.29 AM

Growing up in the 90’s, A Different World gave many of us a look into college life our families had never known. As a pre-teen I wondered what life would be like at ‘Hillman’ and years later graduated from college heavily influenced by the same television show that would shape my young mind. In a much-anticipated reunion, the beloved cast of the iconic college sitcom “A Different World” is embarking on a 10-city tour, celebrating the rich legacy of historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) across the nation. This historic reunion comes 35 years after the show first aired, promising a nostalgic journey for fans and an impactful experience for students and communities alike.

According to a report by The Wrap, the tour will kick off on Feb. 29 in Atlanta, Georgia, a city renowned for its vibrant Black culture and home to several prominent HBCUs. Atlanta’s status as the “Black mecca” sets the perfect stage for the reunion, with its historic institutions like Clark Atlanta University, Spelman College, Morehouse College, and Morehouse School of Medicine comprising the Atlanta University Center—the first stop on the tour.

The star-studded cast includes Kadeem Hardison (Dwayne Cleofis Wayne), Darryl M. Bell (Ron Johnson), Charnele Brow (Kimberly Reese), Jasmine Guy (Whitley Marion Gilbert-Wayne), Glynn Turman (Colonel Bradford Taylor), and Sinbad (Walter Oakes). Joining them are “A Different World” producers Susan Fales and Debbie Allen, adding their expertise and insight to the tour.

The reunion tour is not just a celebration of the groundbreaking sitcom but also a platform to highlight the importance of higher education, particularly within the Black community. HBCUs have long been pillars of academic excellence, nurturing generations of students and playing a crucial role in shaping African American culture and history.

Throughout the tour, cast members and producers will engage with students, faculty, and local communities, sharing stories, insights, and behind-the-scenes anecdotes from their time on the show. From panel discussions to meet-and-greets, the tour promises a blend of entertainment, education, and inspiration.

For fans of “A Different World,” the reunion tour offers a unique opportunity to reconnect with beloved characters and relive memorable moments from the show. For students and HBCU communities, it’s a chance to celebrate their heritage, embrace their potential, and be inspired by the achievements of those who paved the way.

As the cast of “A Different World” takes to the stage once again, they carry with them the spirit of unity, resilience, and empowerment that defined the show. The inspiration they gave to a little black girl like myself who dreamed to be as smart as Kim and as loved as Whitley until it became true in real life. Through this reunion tour, they continue to champion the legacy of HBCUs and inspire future generations to pursue their dreams with passion and purpose.

Stay tuned as the “A Different World” reunion tour travels across the nation, spreading joy, knowledge, and a whole lot of nostalgia along the way.
