Jill Scott Praises Chris Brown’s Talent Amid Controversy

jill scott

In a recent social media post, Jill Scott sparked a debate by praising Chris Brown’s talents while responding to criticisms about his abusive history. Despite Brown’s past, Scott commended his multifaceted abilities, leading to a discussion about separating the art from the artist.

Much of the conversation surrounding Chris Brown revolves around his past assault on Rihanna and allegations of abuse from other women. Despite these controversies, Jill Scott took to Twitter to express admiration for Brown’s skills in singing, dancing, acting, and rapping, calling him “amazing” and highlighting his exceptional talent.

However, Scott’s praise prompted responses from fans pointing out Brown’s history of violence against women. Some argued that his abusive behavior should not be overlooked, while others defended his artistic abilities.

In response to one user who mentioned the women Brown has allegedly abused, Scott drew from her own experience with her mother’s abusive ex-husband, highlighting how talent and abusive behavior can coexist. She emphasized the importance of awareness and self-protection, suggesting that individuals should make informed decisions based on available information.

Despite the support for Brown’s talent, Scott acknowledged concerns about his recent diss track against Quavo, agreeing that certain actions may have crossed a line.

Overall, Scott’s comments sparked a broader conversation about the complexities of separating an artist’s talent from their personal behavior.

Thoughts?

‘Freaknik’ Doc Director P. Frank Williams To Be Honored At San Diego State University

P. Frank Williams has been selected as the recipient of the 2024 School of Journalism and Media Studies Alumni Impact Award by his alma mater San Diego State University. The award will be presented to Williams on May 10, 2024 at JMS Next, the school’s annual graduation celebration.

Williams, an Emmy and 8-time NAACP Image winner, will be celebrated for his outstanding contributions to the field of media and storytelling producing and directing several acclaimed projects centered around Black culture and music including TV One’s renowned documentary series “Unsung” and “Unsung Hollywood,” BET’s award-winning series “American Gangster,” “Hip Hop Homicides” executive produced by 50 Cent and Mona Scott-Young and films such as “Wu: The Story of the Wu-Tang Clan,” and his latest top-trending Hulu documentary “Freaknik: The Wildest Party Never Told.”

The journalism school was a place that I called home and it was a place where I discovered a lot about myself as a journalist, as a writer and as a reporter,” said Williams. “A lot of the lessons that I learned, stuff that I got from San Diego State, has propelled my career from newspapers to magazines to television and documentary filmmaking. Professionally, it means a lot to receive this award because JMS is the foundation of all that I’ve achieved.”

A native of Oakland, California, Williams has had a career spanning three decades in Film/TV and journalism, during which he has made a significant impact as a writer, speaker, teacher, and producer. The award honor comes on the heels of the recent announcement of his multimedia production company, For The Culture By The Culture (@FXCXC). Williams is actively addressing the underrepresentation of people of color in the media by prioritizing authentic representation both in front of and behind the camera.

“Williams personifies what the Alumni Impact Award is all about. We are celebrating him not only for his professional achievements but also for his commitment to social change and justice,” said director of JMS, Dr. Temple Northup.

“It’s just an amazing and beautiful feeling to be able to come full circle back to JMS. I just want to make sure that all of the students at the school know that it doesn’t matter your background or where you start,” said Williams. “It’s about putting the work in, staying focused and trying to get to that next level. So whatever it is that you can dream of, you can achieve it. You just got to go toward the goal and go toward the light.”

50 Cent Urges Quavo To Fire Back After Chris Brown’s “Weakest Link” Diss

In an unexpected fashion that seemed harder than most rappers’ recent diss tracks, Chris Brown dropped a scathing diss track aimed at Migos’ front man Quavo entitled “Weakest Link” and now the number one online antagonizer is pressuring Quavo to return fire at Breezy or he can count this battle as a loss.

50 Cent seemed to give CB his props for the Weakest Link, posting the song’s cover art, which shows Quavo chomping on a glizzy, along with a snippet of the song.

Screenshot 2024 04 22 at 10.56.46 AM

“Oh my God i just heard this, if Quavo don’t come with some heat it’s a wrap. First the Fatboys break up now this!” he wrote.

Released on Friday (April 19), “Weakest Link” finds Chris Brown taking his feud with the former Migos member to another level.

Breezy addressed Quavo allegedly sleeping with Brown’s ex, Karreuche Tran, rapping, “You fucked my ex-ho, that’s cool, I don’t give no fuck, lil n-gga/ ‘Cause I fucked yo ex when you were still with her, bitch, I’m up, lil n-gga.”

Brown also takes a stab using the death of Quavo’s late nephew and Migos member TakeOff for some vicious get back. “R.I.P. TakeOff, he the only real one, I got true respect/ Crazy how when he died, everybody really wished it was you instead.”

Previously, Quavo had taken shots at Breezy on his song “Tender”, taunting him over his ex Karrueche Tran, history of violence against women and alleged drug habit. “You did the bitch wrong and now the bitch gone, she posted with a thug/ Call the bitch phone, she won’t come home, don’t beat her up/ It must be the drugs, need to cross out your plug,” rapped Quavo.

The beef between these two date all the way back to 2017, where the Brown and Quavo allegedly got into a physical altercation at the BET Awards Afterparty.

Kid Cudi Shines at Coachella Despite Broken Foot, Announces Engagement

Screen Shot 2024 04 22 at 11.04.51 AM

Kid Cudi made a triumphant return to the Coachella Valley Music Festival in Indio, California, on Sunday, delivering a mesmerizing performance that left the crowd in awe. However, what started as a night of electrifying music took an unexpected turn when Cudi suffered a broken foot during his set at the Sahara Tent.

The incident occurred as Cudi leaped off the stage and into the crowd, a move characteristic of his dynamic performances. Videos captured by fans showed the rapper falling awkwardly and being swiftly assisted by security personnel for medical attention. Despite the setback, Cudi later confirmed the injury on social media, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support from his fans.

“Hey guys, so I broke my foot today at the show. Just leaving the hospital. Never broken a bone before so this is all a bit crazy,” Cudi wrote in a post on his social media platforms. “I wanna thank you all for your concerns and well wishes!! I love y’all man. I heard y’all still raging when I was offstage. Made me smile big.”

Despite the injury, Cudi’s resilience shone through as he delivered a remarkable performance, debuting tracks from his recent album, Insano, including hits like “Moon Man S**t” and “Blue Sky.”

In addition to his memorable performance, Cudi made headlines with another announcement last week—his engagement to Lola Sartore, a menswear designer. Sharing a series of pictures from the Knuckles premiere, Cudi expressed his joy, stating, “This amazing woman makes me so happy, she is everything to me and I’m so excited to share this news with you all.”

Sartore, too, took to her social media to share the joyous news, expressing her love for Cudi and excitement for their future together.

While Cudi’s relationship with Sartore marks a new chapter in his personal life, the rapper has always been candid about his journey to finding love. In the past, Cudi has been linked to several high-profile names, but his romance with Sartore seems to signal a new beginning for the rapper.

DJ Akademiks Shares “Taylor Made Freestyle” Without 2Pac and Snoop AI Verses

DJ Akademiks 9 22

Drake’s diss to Kendrick Lamar, “Taylor Made Freestyle,” was an AI treatment, evoking the voices of Tupac and Snoop Dogg.

After the release, Akademiks shared what the song would sound like if Drake’s voice was present throughout. You can hear it below.

Since Kendrick Lamar has yet to respond to “Push Ups,” Drake has gone back to back. Hitting Instagram, The 6ix God dropped off the “Taylor Made Freestyle.”

Upon pressing play you will hear something that you wouldn’t expect, Tupac’s voice. The single opens with an AI Tupac verse requesting KDot stands up for the West Coast. It is followed by an AI Snoop Dogg asking for the same.

AI Tupac raps:
Fuck this Canadian lightskin, Dot
We need an undebated West Coast victory, man
Call him a bitch for me
Talk about him liking young girls, that’s a gift from me
Heard it on the Budden Podcast, it’s gotta be true
They told me the spirit of Makaveli is alive
In the nigga under five-foot five, so it’s gotta be you

AI Snoop added:
‘Cause right now it’s looking like you writing out the game plan on how to lose
How to bark up the wrong tree and then get your head popped in a crowded room
World is watching this chess game, but are you out of moves?

After that, Drake pops in for his own slick talk:
The first one really only took me an hour or two
The next one is really ’bout to bring out the coward in you
But now we gotta wait a fucking week ’cause Taylor Swift is your new Top
And if you ’bout to drop, she gotta approve

Since “Like That,” your tone changed a little, you not as enthused
How are you not in the booth? It feel like you kinda removed
You tryna let this shit die down, nah, nah, nah
Not this time, nigga, you followin’ through

He ends the song with a message, “I know you’re in that NY apartment, you struggling right now I know it.”

You can hear it below.

Cam’ron Opens Up About Past Feuds with Nas and 50 Cent

Cam'ron Confirms There Are Talks About 'Paid in Full' Sequel

Legendary rapper Cam’ron delved into the origin of his past feuds with fellow hip-hop icons Nas and 50 Cent. Filming himself aboard a boat, Cam’ron reflected on the unexpected conflicts, expressing his admiration for both artists despite the tensions that arose between them.

“Nas is one of my favorite artists, if not my favorite artist,” Cam’ron began, revealing his deep-rooted respect for the Queensbridge legend. “When Nas dissed me, that sh*t hurt. I was like, ‘Damn, we grew up on Nas. What did Nas diss us for? Damn, this is crazy.’”

Detailing the circumstances surrounding his beef with Nas, Cam’ron explained that it occurred shortly after signing with Roc-A-Fella Records. Feeling blindsided by Nas’ diss, Cam’ron faced a dilemma of whether to retaliate or take the high road. “Our backs were against the wall because we didn’t have no platinum album yet,” he reflected. “When we dissed Nas, that was our second mixtape. But we had to do that because I’m like, ‘Damn, our backs are against the wall.’”

Transitioning to his feud with 50 Cent, Cam’ron reminisced about the more playful nature of their rivalry. “That’s why I did it because I felt our back was against the door,” he explained. “When me and 50 Cent was going at it, that was fun. Shout to my n***a 50. We good now too.”

Recalling the genesis of their conflict, Cam’ron revealed that it stemmed from a disagreement over 50 Cent’s remarks about Koch Records. “When me and 50’s battle started, it was because 50 had said, ‘Koch is a graveyard for a lot of rappers,’” Cam’ron recounted. “At the time, Jim Jones had just went to Koch and some other deals we had at Koch. And you know, Jim Jones is Dipset. So we sitting there saying, ‘Damn, he called Koch the graveyard and Jim just did a deal.’”

Despite the heated exchanges, Cam’ron emphasized that he and 50 Cent ultimately moved past their differences, recognizing that certain conflicts are inherent to the competitive nature of the music industry. “To me, all that sht was just music,” he concluded. “Even when me and 50 spoke, we was like, ‘Yo, let’s get to this money because certain sht is music and certain sh*t is not music.’”
