Earlier this week, Gillie Da Kid hopped online to share his take on Kendrick Lamar’s track “Euphoria,” in which he responds to Drake. The Million Dollaz Worth Of Game host said that he was less than impressed, and dubbed it corny. “Just heard that Kendrick Lamar diss,” he began. “I f*** with Kendrick, but that s*** was corn on the cob, man. You know what’s cr*zy, man? The light-skinned n***** winning three to nothing, man.”

Obviously, Kendrick’s feud with Drake has been pretty polarizing, so his take prompted backlash from some of his viewers. Jess Hilarious, for one, took the opportunity to check him. During a recent episode of The Breakfast Club, the comedian reminded Gillie of some of his own music, claiming that he has no room to call anyone out for being corny.

“Yo Gillie, you had a whole song talking ’bout you was ‘The Chicken Man.’ Quit playing with me, Gillie. I’m so surprised by him,” she said, eliciting laughter from her co-hosts. DJ Envy agreed with her, noting how he believed that Gillie of all people would understand Kendrick’s approach. “Gillie is a lyricist. He’s a writer. He used to write for people,” he said. Charlamagne had a similar take, arguing that Gillie’s claim was objectively wrong. According to him, even if Gillie’s not a fan of the song, it’s not fair for him to dub it “corn on the cob.”

“I disagree with Gillie too,” he explained. “Music is subjective, so if you don’t like the record, cool. According to City News Toronto, the owner says they have received an outpouring of five-star reviews, and now the owner, Johnny Liu, is hoping to learn the song’s words. Liu also says he has been getting many phone calls and expects more visitors for the fried rice.

In the song, Drake uses Toronto slang while name-dropping the restaurant:

Kendrick Lamar’s single is registering with fans, but it appears to get the support of rappers, too. Hitting Instagram, 50 declared the diss “real hip hop.”

“This is real hip hop shit go check it out, I would have posted it but it’s too long,” 50 wrote.

Kendrick Lamar has disturbed everybody’s Tuesday working morning (Apr. 30) to fire “Euphoria.”

The track opens with Lamar rapping over the Teddy Pendergrass classic “You’re My Latest, My Greatest Inspriation,” calling out “the famous actor we once knew” as spiraling. He also stated Drake was a “pathetic master manipulator” who created a fake story about Lamar’s family in “Push Ups.” Another early job is “you make music that pacify them, I can double down on that line but spare you this time, that’s random act of kindness,” hinting at rumors of Drake’s involvement with underage girls.

Kendrick Lamar’s eagerly anticipated response to Drake, “Euphoria,” finally dropped earlier this week. As expected, the diss track has since garnered passionate reactions from both sides of the fence. As for Cam’ron and Mase, they think Drizzy’s come out on top so far. Evidently, however, a lot of their viewers disagree.

During an episode of the Come & Talk 2 Me podcast posted today, the duo addressed the backlash they’ve received for their take on the song. “Drake is definitely winning from an MC standpoint,” Mase said during a previous episode. “It took a while for us to get the record from Kendrick and when you wait a while it gotta be outta this world. I think if Kendrick dropped this record right after ‘[Push Ups] Drop and Give Me 50,’ it would have been cr*zy.”

Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s beef first sparked back in March when Future & Metro Boomin dropped “Like That.” That feels like a lifetime ago as there’s been numerous responses and developments from across the genre’s spectrum. J. Cole and Kanye West have sparked a side-beef of their own while artists like Rick Ross and even Metro Boomin himself weighed in. But at the core it’s been about Kendrick and Drake and the newest development proved it.

It’s first full day of streaming on Spotify resulted in a massive number of streams. As DJ Akademiks reports, users streamed the song 9,206,498 times. That isn’t just an incredibly impressive start for the diss track, it’s the biggest single day of any rap song released in 2024 so far. Given that the diss track that started it all “Like That” has racked up more than 200 million streams, the ongoing beef is proving to be a major commercial draw for everyone involved. Haley Joel Osment Acknowledges His Unexpected Role In The Kendrick Lamar And Drake Beef

Kendrick Lamar really goes after Drake on “Euphoria,” with most of the bars leaving very little doubt about what exactly he means. There is one portion of the diss track that has raised some uncertain eyebrows, though: At one point, Lamar raps, “Am I battlin’ ghost or AI? N**** feelin’ like Joel Osteen / Funny, he was in a film called AI / And my sixth sense tellin’ me to off him.”

While Joel Osteen is a televangelist, the lyrics seem like they’re really more about similarly named actor Haley Joel Osment, which has left some listeners confused (and dropping Abbott Elementary references).

Meanwhile, Osment himself has subtly weighed in: As some have observed, Osment liked Lamar’s tweet sharing the song. Whether this is Osment taking Lamar’s side or simply giving a quiet nod to his unexpected role in the situation as a whole, who knows. But, we know that he’s at least aware of the fact that he got roped into the big hip-hop beef of the moment.

Perhaps relevant is the fact that in a 2017 interview with Uproxx, Osment said Flying Lotus’ “Massage Situation” was his most-played song at the time. Given that Flying Lotus and Lamar have a history of working together, perhaps Osment’s X (formerly Twitter) like really is a Lamar co-sign.

Earlier this week, Kendrick Lamar shocked the rap world with the release of “euphoria.” The song took aim at Drake, who had dropped a pair of songs taking shots at Kendrick called “Push Ups” and “Taylor Made Freestyle” last month. The beef goes all the way back to Kendrick’s guest verse on the Future & Metro Boomin song “Like That” earlier this year. The newest developments have rap fans and even plenty of rap artists themselves reacting. The most recent was Jay Electronica, who didn’t actually say anything. But he made a post that seems to make it obvious which side he’s on.

He took to Twitter overnight to share a link to Drake’s song “Champagne Poetry.” It’s the opening track to Drake’s 2021 album Certified Lover Boy. The song currently sits with over 300 million streams on Spotify, 6th most of any song on Certified Lover Boy. While the album itself was met with some harsh criticism upon release, many fans cited “Champagne Poetry” as a standout moment. Jay Elec seems to agree as it’s the song he chose to post to seemingly endorse Drake in the beef without actually saying it out loud.
