Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, & Big Sean Preach The Gospel Of Hustle On DJ Premier’s “Ya Don’t Stop”

If you want to be able to succeed and live a fulfilling life, you are going to need a hardworking mindset. That is something that Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Big Sean and DJ Premier certainly have, as all four music titans land on one track called “Ya Don’t Stop”. This is the latter’s newest release, and it follows-up “Gonna Be Me (the friendship song)” with O.A.R. and Brady Watt most recently. However, it also comes after collaborations with Chance the Rapper, Nas, Snoop Dogg and Daz Dillinger, as well as Russ. With so many big-time voices and just three minutes of run time, how does it all come together?

In our opinion, DJ Premier has another successful offering here with “Ya Don’t Stop”. Leading up to it’s release, some fans were pointing out that Ross and Wayne were going to be on this record. This would not even be a subplot a few years ago. However, with Drake being is Rozay’s crosshairs and Weezy mostly being okay with The Boy (maybe?), things are different. Thankfully, the chemistry is solid all around. Big Sean ties everything up nicely with his catchy hook that centers the song’s focus on grinding to live lavishly. Wayne probably has the best performance of everyone, as he continues to shred his feature appearances lately.

Quotable Lyrics:

I don’t stop, I can’t stop, I won’t stop, I can’t breathe
Especially when your knee is on top, deep breath (Uh)

I got guns like Fortnite, a sharp tongue for sword fights
I look like a born again Christian Dior, right?

Action Bronson Continues His Wonderfully Absurd & Whimsical Ways On “JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACHLAVA THE DOCTOR”

Action Bronson never shies from being himself. It is one of the many redeeming qualities of the unapologetically blunt rapper who hails from Queens, New York. Overall, it is probably what he is most synonymous with, and we are happy that he stays true. To be honest, hip-hop can use more light-hearted and unique lyricists like him. The 2013 XXL Freshman is bringing out his usual self on another tight project for 2024 and it comes after a handful of singles. Action Bronson’s JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACHLAVA THE DOCTOR is led by “NOURISH A THUG” and “SEGA”, both of which were released just two months before it.

Bronson is working alongside familiar faces for this project, both on the production and feature front. The former sees him recruit Daringer and The Alchemist once again, and the MC also chips into the creation of the beats. As for the accompanying performers, mainstays Julian Love and Yung Mehico (instrumentalists) are here, as well as Meyhem Lauren and Larry June. As we stated, Bronson is still wonderfully wild and colorful bars. For example, take a look at these from the jazzy and grand “HIDEO NOMO”. “Finish quick, she spit my seeds on the floor, a tree grew (Uh) / Then she continued seasoning the sea food / I got more karate movеs than Steven Seagal (That’s a lot)“.

Like Bronson’s past release, Cocodrillo Turbo, JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACHLAVA THE DOCTOR, sees as him the titular doctor. He presents himself as this on several tracks, with one being “SEGA”. It is unclear what this all means for the album, but what we can tell you is that there are some great tracks to be had. That is thanks in part to the funky and catchy instrumentals (“SALVAJE” “KOMPRESSOR”). Give Bronson’s new outing a try with the links below.

Common & Pete Rock Recapture The Good Old Days Of Hip-Hop On “The Auditorium Vol. 1”

Common and Pete Rock are two no brainer G.O.A.T.s of the genre. One is an elite and thought-provoking rhymer, and the other is a highly revered and meticulous producer. Moreover, when you combine those two types of talents together, you are bound to witness greatness. If we had one word to describe this Common and Pete album, The Auditorium Vol. 1, it would be that. From track one to 15, you are getting top-notch beats and sample flips, as well as impeccable verses about your typical Common fare. If there is one theme we picked up on from the singles to this project, it is that this dynamic tandem was looking to bring back the Golden Era of hip-hop.

Generally, most fans would consider that to be 1990s decade, an era which preached a focus on creativity and mindful writing. Overall, Common and Pete Rock do a near-flawless job at recapturing that period on The Auditorium Vol. 1 and it makes for a show-stopping passion project. Throughout the rollout of this collaboration offering, Common has repeatedly preached that they were aiming to make this for the love of it all and we can hear that undoubtedly. All in all, if you are someone who did grow up in the earlier stages of hip-hop’s dominance, The Auditorium Vol. 1 is a great way to get your feet wet in the conscious hip-hop space this summer.

Your Old Droog’s Latest Album Is A “Movie” & It’s One Fans Will Want To Rewatch

Sometimes, not everyone can make their first, second, or even third album their most complete. To be honest, it is quite rare for anyone to do it, even the certified legends. That seems to be the case for Ukranian American spitter Your Old Droog, in his opinion anyway. The Brooklynite has been one of the more prolific voices in the East Coast underground and he prefers it that way. “I don’t really have interest in fame or the idea of celebrity, according to a feature from Variety. All of that hard work has seemingly culminated into Your Old Droog’s newest album, Movie.

“On the outside and on the inside, I feel like I mastered certain things, like certain recording techniques, writing techniques. I feel like I mastered ad libs in late 2022… in terms of how I record them, my process of selecting them and editing”, Droog mentioned. “I had a conversation before I worked on this album with El-P, where he was like, ‘Be okay with people missing you for a while. Just put everything into your 12 best songs.’ So, I internalized that before I was making the record, and just said, let me not do so much — let me do exactly what’s needed. I feel like I did”. We certainly feel that way, as Droog talks about all sorts of life experiences. This tape truly describes his life, aka his Movie.

Producer SAINT JAME$ Begins His Career With A Bang As He Drops “BY ANY MEAN$”

The East Coast, like any other corner of hip-hop, has a distinct sound. It is grimy, rugged, but sometimes smooth and easy going. Those are all of the styles you are going to get on BY ANY MEAN$, the debut album of producer SAINT JAME$. He is cut from the similar cloth that Griselda is from, and that is why you are getting artists of that familiar ilk all over this project. From Conway the Machine to Boldy James, and Rome Streetz to ElCamino, the gang is all here.

BY ANY MEAN$ is a tight listen, spanning just 10 tracks with a scant run time of just 28 minutes and change. For someone looking to get their name out there like SAINT JAME$ is, you would think making longer instrumentals would be the move. However, he still manages to be memorable. Many may not know, but this project was in the works for quite a long time. In fact, SAINT JAME$ explained his gratitude for everyone that was involved and thanked for them for their years’ worth of patience. “Shouts out to @coachbombay3000 for believing in me, this project, being patient and for the guidance and support”, JAMES said.

“Peace, Love and respect to all artists who graced the project. I am humbled and grateful that I had the opportunity to work with some of the dopest artists to EVER rap… A reminder to those who need to hear it, believe in your vision, trust the process and don’t let a setback make you give up. Make your dreams happen BY ANY MEAN$ possible!!!!”. Those words cannot be truer and we wish SAINT JAME$ all the success in the world moving forward.

Juelz Santana & Jadakiss Rep NY With Eerie Banger “Party N Bulls***”

Juelz Santana, for the last four years, has been pretty elusive. New music is a rarity from him these days, but things could be doing a 180 very soon. The Harlem, New York rapper could be working toward a new album for this year, and one of the main reasons why we have this hunch is his output lately. Just a few weeks ago, he put out “Score”, a simple yet effective NY drill cut ideal for when you to get locked in before a big game. Now, Juelz Santana has returned once more, this time bringing Jadakiss along, for “Party N Bulls***”.

Another factor playing into our LP prediction are the hashtags he has included frequently. “#BetterLateThenNever” was on his Instagram post for “Score”, as well as “Party N Bulls***”. Could this be the title for Juelz’s tape? One can only hope for now, but we are enjoying his much-needed return for now. On this single, him and Jadakiss both are rapping with hunger and confidence. “You just a palm boy, me, I got King’s Disease / Boys can’t compete with me, I’m too elite, you see / I’m a big stepper, don’t end up beneath my feet“. On top of the sticky one liners, the instrumental is also winner. Again, it is shaking things up, but the eerie piano keys and dark tone sell the intimidation aspect of “Party N Bulls***”.

Che Noir Is Destined For Greatness With “The Color Chocolate, Vol. 1”

Just over a week ago, we covered Buffalo’s own Che Noir and her lead single for her EP, The Color Chocolate, Vol. 1. She brought on special guests Your Old Droog and Evidence for “Junior High.” It was a lyrically adept track as you might expect, with great storytelling elements surrounding each spitter’s youth. Of course, it was an excellent track all around and down to the production as well.

Che Noir announced the four-track taster on her Instagram around the same time. “The Color Chocolate EP drops January 26th. Full Album coming soon after. Yall ready for some new Ché Noir music? New Ché Noir Merch?” We are definitely ready because it is now here! One comment on her post saying that the tape is out encapsulates our emotions about this more or less. “4 tracks n still b better than n****s full albums 🔥🔥

Ransom & Nicholas Craven Tap Talib Kweli & Raina Simone For “Minority Report”

Jersey City MC Ransom and producer Nicholas Craven recently released a full-length collaborative project, Directors Cut 4. For fans of soulful and sample-heavy production, intricate rhymes, and a refreshed take on classic hip-hop, this is one of the most notable releases of the week. Although it contains plenty of standouts, one that’s bound to particularly resonate with fans is the stacked “Minority Report.” Featuring Talib Kweli and Raina Simone, this song focuses on authenticity, talent within hip-hop, and emerging from a system that is stacked against you. There are a lot of heavy street bars on here, as well as more spiritual fare and comments on political oppression, but don’t let this denseness put you off.

For starters, the beat by Nicholas Craven might remind listeners of some of Ransom’s earlier beats like “Sinatra’s Demons.” Like that song, this track contains some powerful strings and a minimal but still noticeable drum pattern to keep the song grounded. Also, there’s an interesting mix between these strings and some faint background vocals that seem more ghostly than anything else. Considering the track’s weighted subject matter, this just adds to the drama and impact of the sharp bars. For example, the legendary Talib Kweli’s verse takes more of a violence-oriented focus, speaking on snitches and posturing in the world of crime.

Ransom & Nicholas Craven’s “Minority Report”

Matched with Ransom’s opening verse and chorus, this makes for a bittersweetly triumphant cut. To close things off before the last chorus, lyricist Raina Simone delivers a killer verse about her struggles, experience, and legacy as a Black woman. Even though this songs packs a deep punch, it still thrives in the fundamentals of the genre (like much of his material) to make an engaging listen. If you haven’t heard Directors Cut 4 yet, you can find it on your preferred streaming service and peep some notable lines from “Minority Report” down below. Mach-Hommy Drops Ethereal Project, “Notorious Dump Legends: Volume 2”

Haitian-American rapper Mach-Hommy just released his latest project, the short but sweet Notorious Dump Legends: Volume 2. Moreover, the album is effectively a collaborative effort with Tha God Fahim, as he appears on almost every track here. Still, it’s well within the boundaries of excellence, skill, and vision you’d expect from Hommy. Overall, it’s a cohesive and succinct collection of somber production, grounded lyricism, and creative sample-based beats.

If you haven’t heard of Mach-Hommy, he’s one of the architects behind Griselda who’s blossomed a mysterious and cult favorite career of his own. While his affiliation with the Buffalo rap collective’s been on and off for the past few years, he reconciled with Westside Gunn a couple of years ago. As a result, he forms part of that same style while distinguishing himself as an idiosyncratic artist.

Mach-Hommy’s Notorious Dump Legends: Volume 2

For example, his critically acclaimed 2021 album Pray For Haiti saw him rapping in creole, honoring his home, and delivering even more abstract verses and beats than his more hardcore counterparts. Also, Hommy’s one of the more prolific rappers in the game at the moment, at least when considering his caliber. He dropped six projects last year between long-form releases and EPs. With his skill and dedication to making art in mind, we wouldn’t be surprised to cover new releases from him many more times this year.

Still, what did you think of Mach-Hommy’s latest album, Notorious Dump Legends: Volume 2? However you feel, let us know in the comments and check out the project’s tracklist down below. Also, if you haven’t heard it yet, you can find the album on YouTube above or your preferred streaming service.
