Does Drake Actually Have ‘More Slaps Than The Beatles?’

In his 2018 collaboration with Meek Mill, “Going Bad,” Drake proclaims “I got more slaps than The Beatles.” While making this sort of comparison to one of the most beloved rock bands of all time is a bold statement, it wasn’t entirely inaccurate. Months before that song’s release, Drake had broken the record for the most singles in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, occupying 7 spaces during the week of the release of his sixth studio album, Scorpion, breaking The Beatles’ previously held record of five spaces.

Nearly four years after Drake’s statement, he continues to break records. But it still poses a question.

Does Drake actually have “more slaps than The Beatles?”

Well, it depends on how you define what a “slap” is, however, his ability to craft hits is undeniable. In his career, spanning more than a decade, Drake has broken several chart records, according to Billboard. With his latest collaboration, “Staying Alive” with DJ Khaled and Lil Baby, Drake has earned the most top-five hits on the Hot 100 chart, with 30, breaking the record previously held by The Beatles.

Additionally, Drake also holds the record for the most top 20 hits on the Hot 100 with 100, and Top 40 hits, with 158.

Drake, however, only has 11 No. 1 hits to his credit, which practically pales in comparison to The Beatles’ 20. Also, Drake has held the top of the Hot 100 and the Billboard 200 spots for eight cumulative weeks at various points in his career, which is four weeks short of The Beatles and Whitney Houston’s 12-week records.

But given how the chart rules and the way we consume music have evolved over time, we may see Drake catch up to all of The Beatles’ accomplishments. Or perhaps, we’ll see The Beatles make a comeback, considering how many songs have received a second life by way of TikTok and viral memes.

Drake Explains Why He Doesn’t Even Consider Retirement An Option For Him

It’s been obvious since Drake surprise-dropped Honestly, Nevermind that he’s in grind mode. Immediately after the release, the musician began discussing a poetry book and a Scary Hours pack. Now, on the first episode of Nicki Minaj’s Queen Radio on Amp, he confirmed that he’s not looking to stop any time soon and hasn’t considered retirement.

“I’m not at that point where I even consider that being an option,” he said. “One of the best feelings I have in my life is completing a song or project. And by the way those things are painful as well. A lot of nerves, a lot of confidence wavering. But I feel like I’m reaching a new level of fun. I’ve reached a new level of comfortability where I want to try things. Like this last album, I put out something I wanted to do to challenge myself.”

The “Headlines” performer is not only reaching new levels of fun; he’s reaching new levels of fame by continuously breaking records. Just today, claimed his 30th top five song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, surpassing The Beatles, who held the record for 64 years. Now he’s alone at the top, staking a claim one of the world’s greatest hitmakers of all time.

Greatest Hitmaker? Drake Just Passed The Beatles For A Very Significant Record

Back when Drake broke a more curious record by The Beatles of hit songs, the Toronto rapper tattooed the Fab Four on his arm. Well, he might have to hop on the phone and call his tattoo artist because he’s just done it again and might have just staked claim as the world’s greatest hitmaker in the process.

With the song “Staying Alive” by DJ Khaled and featuring both Drake and Lil Baby, Drake just claimed his 30th top five song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. He was previously tied with The Beatles — who held the record for 64 years — at 29, and now he’s alone at the top. With this record, he can finally accurately claim that, “I got more slaps than The Beatles.”

Other artists who are in the running for most Top 5 singles of all time include Madonna with 28, Mariah Carey with 27, Janet Jackson at 26, Rihanna with 23, Elvis with 21 and then Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber, and Stevie Wonder with 2o top five songs on the Hot 100. For what it’s worth, The Beatles still hold claim to the most number one singles of all time with 20. Mariah Carey has 19 Elvis has 18 and Drake is further down on the list with a modest 11 No. 1s.

Drake Attended Kendrick Lamar’s Toronto Show Which Could Be A Good Sign For Their Complicated Relationship

Drake and Kendrick Lamar have both come a long way since Kendrick appeared on Drake’s second album, Take Care. At the time, Drake was an established star, coming off of a No. 1 debut in Thank Me Later and a string of Top 40 hits, and Take Care was set to be the confirmation of his superstardom. Kendrick, on the other hand, was about a year away from his own hotly anticipated debut album, but rising in popularity due to the strength of his independent mixtapes and co-signs from West Coast legends like Dr. Dre, The Game, and Snoop Dogg.

Since then, however, Drake and Kendrick’s relationship appears to have cooled. Despite collaborating twice more on Kendrick’s Good Kid, MAAD City single “Poetic Justice” and ASAP Rocky’s “F*ckin’ Problems,” the two seemed to distance from each other in the aftermath of Kendrick’s scorched-earth verse from Big Sean’s “Control,” a few apparent shots on songs like “King Kunta,” and during his 2013 BET Hip-Hop Awards Cypher verse. Since then, fans have interpreted lines in both rappers’ songs as subliminal shots at the other, assuming that they had fallen out and couldn’t reconcile after so much supposed bad blood.

However, during Kendrick’s ongoing Big Steppers Tour stop in Drake’s hometown Toronto, The Boy himself was seen enjoying the show in a box to himself and his OVO compatriots. Fans who noticed him were excited to see him, getting and posting plenty of videos.

Meanwhile, Kendrick himself last made mention of his supposed rival on his new album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, admitting that he realized that various rap feuds were petty and childish, but also expressed reluctance to let them go. “When Kanye got back with Drake, I was slightly confused,” he says on “Father Time.” Guess I’m not as mature as I think, got some healin’ to do.” Whether he’s since done that healing remains to be seen, but some fans have already interpreted Drake’s presence at Kendrick’s show as a good sign that the two could be reconciling — or at least, on good enough terms to enjoy each other’s shows.

Drake to Nicki Minaj on Giving Up Music: “I’m Not At That Point”

Drake

All Drake fans can rest easy, he isn’t going anywhere. Speaking with Nicki Minaj on the debut of Queen Radio on Amp, Drizzy revealed that he would not be giving up music anytime soon.

“I’m not at that point where I even consider that being an option,” Drake said.

Drake also revealed what it was like reuniting with Minaj and Lil Wayne on stage at OVO Fest. “I mean aside from the fact that just to watch you both perform and the performance you put on just reminded me there is so much distance between our thing and other things. My soul was warm at the end. I felt genuinely so much gratification, you know? Really sentimental. I was just so happy to see my people.”

Last week, Drake returned with a new video, dropping off “Sticky” from his Honestly, Nevermind album.

In the new video, Drizzy shows what life is like on stage, private jet, yachty, and wrapping up at his mansion. The Theo Skudra clip also features one of the off-road Maybach SUVs created by Virgil Abloh. The video also salutes YSL. You can see the video below.

Toronto-based rapper Drake went on social media to share his new face tattoo, which is suspected to be in honor of his mother. Drake’s New Face Tattoo In Honor Of His Mother Earns Quite The Divided Reaction From Fans

Just days after roasting his dad Dennis for getting a pretty goofy-looking tattoo of himself, Drake has gotten some new ink of his own. Drake’s collection of tattoos ranges from sentimental to celebratory to outright goofy, as well, but his latest addition is way more sentimental than it is subtle. Everybody knows how much Drake loves his mom; he’s done several songs about her already, including “Sandra’s Rose” from his 2018 album Scorpion. His new tattoo takes inspiration from his mom’s name as well, inking her initials “S.G.” (for Sandra Gale) just below his left eye.

Of course, as with all things involving Drake, fans had thoughts. A Twitter search of “Drake tattoo” yields a trove of opinions ranging from exasperation (“Drake pissing me off with these tattoos,” wrote one annoyed fan) to admiration. “Drake getting braids and a face tattoo in his 30’s, let’s you know anything is possible,” joked another fan. “Go ahead and tell your manager to f*ck off the next time he asks you to mop the floor. Yolo.”

Some didn’t even believe that the image Drake posted to Instagram was even real. “drake did not get a face tattoo,” wrote one disbeliever. “it’s no way a n**** this calculated didn’t consider those consequences. i don’t believe you.” And while it’s entirely possible Drake is just here for the jokes and didn’t actually get his mom’s initials inked on his face (FWIW, it looks very much like it’s real), it’s probably funnier if he did, right? Like, if you just listed “the most Drake things Drake could possibly do,” you’re hitting that option somewhere in the top 40. Remember, Drake is the type of guy to do a lot of things no one expects but that would be pretty hilarious to see him actually do in real life.
