Drake’s “Honestly, Nevermind” Certified Platinum

Drake is one of the most commercially successful artists of his era. Now he’s adding another impressive accomplishment to his nearly unmatched resume. Last year, he surprised fans by taking a shift into house and dance music on his album Honesty, Nevermind. The album spawned hit songs like “Sticky,” “Massive,” and the 21 Savage collaboration “Jimmy Cooks.” Despite that, the album was met with mixed reception from fans and was largely disliked by critics.

Regardless of the reception of the album, it’s reached an impressive level of success. The album debuted at the top spot on the Billboard 200 and now just barely a year after its release Honestly, Nevermind has been certified platinum. Fans had a mixed reaction to the achievement with some standing up for the album. “maybe a hot take: only good songs in this tracklist – Intro, Sticky, Massive, Jimmy Cooks,” says one commenter. Others claimed that the album’s success is more of a reflection of Drake himself. “Bro can release anything and it goes platinum,” reads one of the top comments on the post.

Drake to Nicki Minaj on Giving Up Music: “I’m Not At That Point”

Drake

All Drake fans can rest easy, he isn’t going anywhere. Speaking with Nicki Minaj on the debut of Queen Radio on Amp, Drizzy revealed that he would not be giving up music anytime soon.

“I’m not at that point where I even consider that being an option,” Drake said. “One of the best feelings I have in my life is completing a song or project. And by the way those things are painful as well. A lot of nerves, a lot of confidence wavering. But I feel like I’m reaching a new level of fun. I’ve reached a new level of comfortability where I want to try things. Like this last album, I put out something I wanted to do to challenge myself.”

Drake also revealed what it was like reuniting with Minaj and Lil Wayne on stage at OVO Fest. “I mean aside from the fact that just to watch you both perform and the performance you put on just reminded me there is so much distance between our thing and other things. My soul was warm at the end. I felt genuinely so much gratification, you know? Really sentimental. I was just so happy to see my people.”

Last week, Drake returned with a new video, dropping off “Sticky” from his Honestly, Nevermind album.

In the new video, Drizzy shows what life is like on stage, private jet, yachty, and wrapping up at his mansion. The Theo Skudra clip also features one of the off-road Maybach SUVs created by Virgil Abloh. The video also salutes YSL. You can see the video below.

In a bit of bad news, fans looking to see Drake, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj reunite on stage in Toronto tonight will have to hold on a bit longer. Drake announced via his Instagram story that he is postponing the close of October World Weekend due to contracting COVID-19.

“I am truly devastated to say that I tested positive for Covid and the Young Money Reunion show scheduled for tonight is being rescheduled to the soonest date possible,” Drake wrote on Instagram. “I will keep the city posted and share the new date whenever we have it locked.

“I am so sorry for letting you down on our weekend together and the moment I test negative I will give you everything I got on stage (except the Covid.)”

“Jimmy Cooks” is produced by Vinlyz, Tay Keith, and Cubeatz and becomes Drake’s 11th No. 1 single. His last effort to hit the top was “Way 2 Sexy,” which featured Future and Young Thug from the 2021 Certified Lover Boy album.

Drake launched 13 tracks into the list this week.
