Tory Lanez Makes His Support For Drake Crystal Clear On New Verse

Tory Lanez is back with a new verse from behind bars, and unsurprisingly, it stirred up a lot of conversation. Of course, this is not like his Lost Tapes series of vault picks and unreleased gems, but a more fresh perspective altogether. One of the most interesting parts of the Brampton rapper and singer’s new verse, which lands on DDG’s “HANDLING BUSINESS,” concerns some references to his fellow Canadian, Drake. “I be up praying and waiting for the day that n***as come for me the way they did Drizzy,” he raps on the cut. “I got the card in the wallet, and big brodie’s problems are my problems, so f**k how you feelin’ about it / Brodie gone stand on his own, but 2024, it ain’t no fair ones in Toronto.”

While this is most likely in reference to the explosive battle between Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and so many others this year, it could also be seen as a regular comment on the consequences of fame. Either way, Tory Lanez has come a long way when it comes to the 6ix God. They previously had beef in the mid-2010s or so, but for years now, they’ve kept that hatchet buried in the dirt.

Tory Lanez Shouts Out Drake On New Song

Another notable part of this new Tory Lanez verse is when he seems to address the night of the Megan Thee Stallion shooting at a Kylie Jenner party. “The only one thing I regret on that night, is jumping up outta the pool with Kylie,” he raps on the song. That whole saga continues to this day, although it also concerns more of a fanbase war in addition to all the legal updates.

Meanwhile, Megan Thee Stallion’s legal action against YouTuber Milagro Gramz now alleges that Tory Lanez conspired with Gramz to launch a campaign against Megan by allegedly relaying false information. Along with other appeals, motions for reversal, and additional claims, this shooting situation is still incredibly delicate. But at least other conflicts, such as the Drake beef, remain firm in their resolution. Hopefully one day Tory can also fully move past his conviction and focus on other endeavors while doing time.

DJ Akademiks Claims Drake Angered UMG By Working With Other Labels & Competitors

There are so many theories and interpretations when it comes to Drake’s legal move against Universal Music Group and Spotify that it completely moves past the Kendrick Lamar beef into something much greater. Moreover, DJ Akademiks has unsurprisingly covered this petition extensively, and he recently offered some more thoughts as to what could’ve provoked this. The general theory is that Drizzy actually wants out of his UMG contract and has unsuccessfully tried to negotiate a better deal for himself. The success of “Not Like Us” was the final straw, and what seemed to show him that the music industry will kick him out as quickly as they welcomed him in.

Basically, DJ Akademiks posited that UMG was also angry at Drake for working with their competitors, which then led to unfulfilled renegotiations. Some examples that the media personality brought up include an OVO deal with a Sony Music joint venture, the Toronto superstar’s previous affiliation with Warner, and his support of Gamma and new artists like Sexyy Red. He spread his influence throughout the whole industry, and UMG is allegedly and hypocritically peeved at this search of monopoly.

DJ Akademiks’ Theory About Drake’s Business Moves

Meanwhile, other commentators and hip-hop cultural figures chose to play the comparison game rather than look at Drake’s actions individually. For example, during a recent episode of the My Expert Opinion podcast, Math Hoffa claimed that UMG actually favored Kendrick Lamar’s deal over the 6ix God’s because they benefitted more from those splits. Many pushed back against this allegedly inaccurate narrative that Kendrick makes them more money than Aubrey, but it’s a valid assumption when none of us really know for sure.

Regardless of what will happen with this legal petition and the precedent it could set, it’s very clear that Drake will endure a very strained relationship with UMG moving forward. We wouldn’t express shock if their partnership completely fell out, or if UMG fought tooth and nail to keep him under their watchful eye and commercial control. After all, the OVO mogul is an absolute titan of the industry. But with so many doubts and assumptions, we’re hoping for some clarification.

BlocBoy JB Calls Out Rappers Switching Sides On Drake

It’s been a difficult year for Drake when it comes to his hip-hop relationships, but at the end of the day, most people won’t just cut him off over a rap beef. While many turned their backs on him in 2024 following the Kendrick Lamar battle, we saw via a recent Future and Metro Boomin interview that some folks are warming up to him again. Still, we’re sure that the 6ix God hasn’t really forgotten who was truly there for him. BlocBoy JB decided to add to this conversation, defending him in a recent Instagram Story post about the rap game.

“I’ll Never Switch Sides On Anybody That Helped Me,” BlocBoy JB’s message about Drake began. “This Rap Game Different N***as Will Fake Fucc With Ya For Da Moment Just Cuz It’s Beneficial. I’ll Never Switch Up On Da [owl emoji] Ion Give As Wat Cuh Do.” For those unaware, BlocBoy featured the Toronto superstar on “Look Alive,” which became a massive hit in 2018. This makes him one of the most successful receptors of the OVO “stimulus package” that some folks claim as a staple of his career.

BlocBoy JB Defends Drake

Of course, these days, the conversation around that collaborative tendency is very different, as more folks would rather characterize Drake as a culture vulture these days than a musical chameleon. Also, the “stimulus package” most likely took a hit this year, as many theorize that he wouldn’t have filed his legal petition against Universal Music Group and Spotify if there weren’t contractual and financial issues behind the scenes. Nevertheless, BlocBoy JB is correct in assuming that many folks within the rap game showed Drizzy fake love, which now lands us where we are today.

Elsewhere, amid all this drama, Drake is still all smiles, as he recently hit up a club with a pretty chill and joyful demeanor. Massive success and acclaim must certainly make the switch-ups easier to process, but they clearly can’t take that sting away, either. We’ll see how other collaborators of his continue to assess this whole situation, and whether or not he makes a full recovery.

Azealia Banks Thinks That Drake Could Actually Change The Music Industry For Good This Time

Everyone went up in arms when Drake launched a legal petition against Universal Music Group and Spotify, but he’s got some people in his corner. Moreover, he accused his major label and the streaming service of collusion that sought to artificially inflate the commercial success of Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” diss track in order to damage him. Some folks disagree with the move, but others like Azealia Banks are fully behind The Boy.

“Oh drake DEFINITELY has the gun,” Azealia Banks claimed in response to a fan’s critiques. “He’s about to crook umg and spotify on some minor legal formalities and actually be the first rapper in history to stage a heist of such epic proportions. It’s really such a lethal chess move when you really examine it. He’s going to subpoena literally every platforms records, they will not be able to cook the books- and *discover* (expose) all the shady backend parts of music streaming no one really understands… then they will all have to prove that drake is a pedophile which would make UMG and spotify look r***rded if they even did, kendrick is not going to be able to perform they not like us, and jayz is going to have officially been bodied by a singing n***a…..

Azealia Banks Defends Drake

“everyone is going to gag at how this plays out,” Azealia Banks continued concerning the Drake situation. “It’s better to watch and understand what’s happening then get emotionally involved or pick sides, we’re about to watch the girls BATTLE honey yaaass. […] Either way I’m so perched. I’m genuinely interested on how this will turn out. This s**t is 100% about to become music industry case law whichever way it goes. People all like “oh drake is soft and blah blah,” but it’s tru I y refreshing to not see a contemporary rap beef end up in violence. This is some s**t my nerdy a** can get behind.”

Meanwhile, it seems like Drake continues to clean out his circle after some surprising Instagram unfollows. It was a pretty petty move, but just like with this petition, a lot of people understand it.

Drake Reportedly Unfollows Timbaland After Producer Addresses UMG & Spotify Petition

Drake apparently likes to be petty and unfollow his opps on social media, whether it’s as surefire as Kendrick Lamar or as seemingly meaningless as LeBron James. However, the reasons as to why he takes people off his Instagram are always combative, as he usually tries to send a message via these “cosigns.” Of course, the 6ix God is pretty corny for using social media in this way and treating follows and comments like gospel – see his version of “The Heart Part 6” for some disgusting proof of that. But it looks like he will still engage with this approach, even amid his most controversial move perhaps ever.

Moreover, Timbaland recently commented under an Instagram post that asked whether or not Drake could win a $2 billion lawsuit and “declare war on the music industry” as a result. The producer posted a shaking head, and this is allegedly what made Drizzy supposedly unfollow him. Still, when DJ Akademiks covered this alleged development on Instagram, TImbo actually responded in his comments section and provided an explanation. “That head shake means let the story play out,” he wrote. “Mal might b on to something. They say you have to destroy to rebuild!!!”

Drake Unfollows Timbaland: See Comments For Timbo’s Response

As such, it seems like Drake reacted brashly to just a vague and easily excusable reaction, which should show you how petty thinking can warp your actions. Then again, there’s also a very good chance that he and Timbaland might share some more serious beef that we have no idea about. Either way, the beat-maker is one of many hip-hop icons who weighed in on this UMG and Spotify petition. Others were much more critical, though, such as Uncle Luke’s assessment of a “soft” display.

Meanwhile, Drake continues to be a frequent name in conversations, even when he’s not really doing that much to warrant discussion. For example, J. Cole recently alleged that Jay-Z once told Aubrey to give Cole a hit in an embarrassing way, and we didn’t really hear about his reaction. These interpersonal industry dynamics are tough to navigate, and they can lead to plenty of strife.

Dennis Graham Goes After Joe Budden For Mercilessly Trashing Drake

Joe Budden is one of many hip-hop commentators online who had a lot to say about Drake and his recent legal move against UMG and Spotify. If you haven’t heard, he basically announced plans to sue his major label and the streaming service for allegedly and illegally boosting Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” plus allegations of defamation. Budden’s latest episode of his titular podcasts saw his cohosts react to his scathing rant on the Toronto superstar’s alleged personal character and what he’s done in the industry.

“He’s a selfish, lying, manipulative, sack of s**t who has made enemies for 15 years and now, we’re here at the f***ing boiling point,” Joe Budden alleged of Drake. “You’ve been behind the scenes being the biggest sack of s**t you can possibly be. I’m not here to f***ing play games with you n***as. N***as know what it is out there. […] You have been behind the scenes hitting n***as baby moms, sending money to n***as baby moms. You been back and sending messages to this n***a’s wife, talking s**t about f***ing, ‘Aye, but this n***a’s mom died. Aye, all that’s cool but where my beat at, n***a. I don’t give a f**k that your mom died.’ This n***a’s been a sack of s**t behind the scenes and because he got fans and had Lucian, everybody just gets to turn a blind eye. The blind eye days are done.”

Dennis Graham Defends Drake Against Joe Budden

Amid Joe Budden’s attacks, Drake’s father Dennis Graham had enough, and took to an Instagram comments section of a post covering the matter on Wednesday (November 27) to defend his son. “Stand down now!!!!!!!!!” Graham wrote. “Joe need to back the f**k off this has nothing to do with him period………..”

This actually isn’t the first time that Dennis Graham defended Drake against Joe Budden. “It’s a f***ing shame that a young artist can’t do his own thing and enjoy his glory without an old hater motherf***er trying to bust his bubble because he has nothing going on,” he shared last year. “And to mention or put a limit on what age anyone should be dealing with which is none of his goddamn business as long as they’re of legal age.”

Joe Budden Explains Why Kanye West, Jay-Z & Rihanna Have More “Leverage” Than Drake, Lil Wayne & Nicki Minaj

The Joe Budden Podcast recently discussed the long-standing and complex rivalry between the Roc-A-Fella and Cash Money camps, plus their ensuing protégés and branched-off cliques. Specifically, the program’s titular host doesn’t want folks to compare Lil Wayne, Drake, and Nicki Minaj to Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Rihanna for a few reasons. He posited that Hov was able to form necessary industry relationships and then leave to lead his own endeavors, although cohosts Ice and Ish suggested that the New York rapper entered the game with much more independence and autonomy than someone like Drizzy did. Specifically, this is in regards to owning his material.

While Joe Budden disagreed and suggested that Jay-Z worked to get out of an exploited position, all agreed that there was still a big level-up that Jay took to become so massive, something that the Cash Money (specifically Young Money) camp has yet to do in their eyes. One factor they presented was domination in the industry and from a product standpoint – in this case, music. Ish also brought up Hov’s marriage to Beyoncé and his move into other side ventures that generated a lot of money.

The Joe Budden Podcast Compares Jay-Z’s Moves To Drake’s

Overall, this contributes to The Joe Budden Podcast‘s notion that people like Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Rihanna have more “leverage” than Drake, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj due to their extracurricular projects and streams of massive revenue that land them in a top-tier industry spot. “Y’all not the only people that feed me,” Ish characterized the Roc family’s position of negotiations with the music industry. Of course, all of this ties back to the OVO mogul’s moves against UMG and Spotify in the legal space.

Elsewhere, Joe Budden doesn’t think there’s a blueprint to this process, and that it’s up to each artist who makes it in the industry to find their exit out of it. It’s all a debate around how to manage your money and power, especially if you want to stay true to your own goals. The Jay-Z/Drake debate has a new angle now thanks to this legal action, and that exhausting conversation will just keep on going.

Drake Dissed By Sacramento Kings Owner After DeMar DeRozan Jabs

It seems like the Sacramento Kings and the Toronto Raptors might have quite the rivalry on their hands for the rest of the NBA season. By now, you’ve probably heard how Drake showed up to his Raptors’ home game against the Kings, where Cali native DeMar DeRozan eventually ended up after leaving the Toronto team some years ago. The 6ix God was mean-mugging DeRozan and verbalizing insults in his direction, all because of how the basketball player popped out for Drizzy’s sworn enemy Kendrick Lamar’s concert and music video dissing the OVO mogul. While DeMar maintained that he still had love for both MCs and for the competitiveness of the genre, it seems like that’s not there anymore.

Furthermore, even Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive popped out to support DeMar DeRozan, dissing Drake with a very simple sweatshirt at a recent game that read “They Not Like Us.” Whether or not all this rap battle drama and loyalty talk actually bleeds into the court is a mystery that these NBA teams’ fans will likely keep their eyes on for the foreseeable future.

Kings Owner Has A Message For Drake

In addition, this whole ruckus prompted conversations around whether or not the Toronto Raptors should retire DeMar DeRozan’s jersey, which Drake threatened to pull down if that ever happened. “Yeah, I think it should,” Houston Rockets player Fred VanVleet (a Raptors hooper from 2016 to 2023) said of whether or not DeRozan’s jersey should be in the Toronto rafters. “I think it should. I think that when you look at what he did, you know, especially when you want to give the history of the franchise and what Vince and all of those guys meant at the beginning and what that meant for Canadian basketball.”

Some people completely understand where both Drake and DeMar DeRozan are coming from here, whereas others think it’s a pretty silly matter. After all, this is the NBA, not the URL or a concert. Nevertheless, people will continue to offer their split reactions to this beef extension. We’ll see whether or not Kendrick Lamar pops out for a game or two… Well, apart from his Super Bowl halftime show for the NFL, that is.

DeMar DeRozan Mocks Drake Once More After Mean-Mugging At Raptors-Kings Game

Drake and DeMar DeRozan were once good friends, but the former Toronto Raptor chose his side in the Kendrick Lamar beef and ended up going to the Sacramento Kings later in his career. Now, the 6ix God is pretty peeved. He attended the Kings-Raptors game in his home city, and we’re sure he’s pretty pleased that Toronto won. But what likely made the OVO mogul happier was being able to mean-mug DeMar the whole game, even spouting insults in his direction when he walked by. He said it was “unfortunate we’re playing this goof tonight” on his team’s broadcast, even remarking on what he’d do if the team honors DeRozan. “If you ever put up a DeRozan banner, I’ll go up there and pull it down myself.”

Well, DeMar DeRozan issued a pretty unbothered response to the whole thing. “He’s going to have a long way to climb to take it down, so tell him good luck,” he remarked about the Drake situation in a post-game press conference. In addition, the NBA player posted an Instagram Story of a clip of the classic film Friday in which Chris Tucker’s character Smokey tries to act tough against a bully named Deebo, much like Drizzy attempted. “I got mind control over Deebo,” Smokey boasted. “He be like, ‘Shut the f**k up.’ I be quiet. But when he leaves, I be talking again.” A lot of people thought that the Certified Lover Boy did the same thing.

DeMar DeRozan Trolls Drake

For those unaware, DeMar DeRozan not only got a lyrical shoutout on Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” but he also appeared in the Drake diss’ music video. Previously, DeRozan had expressed that he still has love for the Canadian superstar, although that love clearly disappeared.

Drake’s still my man, still my man, none of it changed,” DeMar DeRozan explained. “It’s so easy to get overlooked and look at it for what it looks like. But at the end of the day it’s music, entertainment. Two of the biggest rappers in the world went at it from a competitive standpoint and they battled it out. That’s what you want to see as a fan: Kobe (Bryant) playing (Michael) Jordan 1-on-1 and see who wins, see the trash talking, and whoever wins out of that, you’re still going to have the debate, so that’s all that is.”

Drake Pettily Posts IG Story Of Solange After Jay-Z Elevator Fight

There are a lot of rumors floating around the Internet right now about a potential beef between Drake and Jay-Z. They’ve had their issues in the past, but this time around, fans think it’s because of Jay’s NFL connections and how Kendrick Lamar will headline the Super Bowl halftime show next year. Well, the Toronto superstar recently fueled that speculation by posting a picture of Solange after her infamous elevator fight with Hov back in 2014. If you don’t know what happened there… No one really does, but all the parties involved said that they worked through it and that the incident doesn’t reflect any deeper issues.

Still, Drake’s message here is pretty vague and mysteriously unclear, especially after his recent rant about fake friends. “One things about nostalgia, this party here?” he said at Toronto’s Nostalgia party. “My real friends are definitely in the building. But I’m going to tell you. You’re going to come to a point in life where people you thought were friends or people you thought were close to you, they might switch up. They might try to move funny with you. They might stab you in the back, they might do a lot of things to you. You’ll come to that realization, wherever you’re at in life. You’ve probably been there and you’ll be there again, that’s how life is. But look, sometimes, it’s you and you alone by yourself. Sometimes it’s you alone with your thoughts.”

Drake Appears To Shade Jay-Z By Posting Solange

During this extravaganza, Drake also rapped along to 50 Cent’s “Many Men,” another tale of betrayal and conflict. As such, he’s sending a lot of signals these days that he’s airing out his previous allies, one of which is Jay-Z. Maybe there’s another interpretation to this IG Story post that doesn’t suggest a feud, but it’s hard to look at it any other way.

Meanwhile, there’s still a debate on what exactly Drake and Kendrick Lamar have done to each other concerning the latter’s Super Bowl halftime show. Are cease and desists really involved or are folks just coming up with more Round 2 excuses? Sadly, a lot of folks are still bloodthirsty.
