Dr. Dre Links Up With Mustard In Studio Amid Snoop Dogg Album Hype

Hip-hop in general has had an importantly resurgent year thus far in 2024. You can certainly point to a lot of MCs for that. However, producers, like usual, are contributing their fair share as well. One of them has been Mustard (DJ Mustard). After remaining quite silent for a little while, these first nine months have been opposite. You’ve heard his producer tag all throughout the summer thanks to his production on Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us”. Additionally, though, you can point to his latest solo album, Faith Of A Mustard Seed. He was able to grab tons of impressive guests, including Travis Scott, Young Thug, ScHoolboy Q, Quavo, Roddy Ricch, and more.

Hopefully, very soon, we can add Dr. Dre to this conversation. Over the last couple of months or so, we have been receiving some encouraging updates surrounding Missionary. It’s being billed as the sequel project to Doggystyle, which of course is Snoop Dogg’s iconic debut. Dr. Dre is handling all of its production and there’s some belief that November will be the month it arrives. It would make sense, as the 23rd of that month will mark the 31st anniversary of Doggystyle. But while that’s in the works, Dr. Dre is taking some time away to meet up with Mustard.

According to HipHopDX, the Perfect Ten creator shared the photo of them in the studio together with the caption, “Back in the lab with my pen and my pad.” This could mean a lot of things. One, Mustard could be receiving some knowledge from one of the West Coast pioneers. He could just be referencing some of Dre’s iconic lyrics. Or they could be cooking up some beats for Missionary. Hopefully, it’s the last one and will be running to the credits for Missionary when it drops to see if Mustard was granted a great opportunity.

What are your thoughts on Dr. Dre and Mustard flicking up in the studio together? Do you think this could mean anything for Snoop Dogg’s Missionary? Or do you see it being just them bouncing ideas off each other? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Mustard and Dr. Dre. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on in the music world.

California Legends Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Tupac, And Kendrick Lamar’s Music Made Its Way Into The State’s 2024 DNC Roll Call

Snoop Dogg was one of the most talked about non-competing Team USA members. His advocacy reportedly earned him a hefty seven figure check. Before cashing checking for commentary work, the “Gin And Juice” rapper’s music brought home the bacon.

Today (August 20), at the 2024 Democratic National Convention his home state honored his early career. During California’s roll call, led by Governor Gavin Newsom, its delegates subtly paid tribute to several hip-hop legends from the Golden State. As Newsom delivered his speech (viewable here) to advocate for Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign, songs from California legends Dr. Dre, the late Tupac, Kendrick Lamar, and of course, Snoop Dogg played in the background.

Although none of the living acts were present to perform their classic tracks, that didn’t stop viewers at home from performing karaoke to the instrumentals. Dr. Dre’s “The Next Episode” featuring Snoop Dogg, Tupac’s “California Love” featuring Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” and “Not Like Us,” all made the state’s unofficial 2024 DNC playlist.

California wasn’t the only state to lean on hits from beloved natives. As a proud product of Atlanta, Lil Jon threw his support behind the Georgia delegates with a performance of his song “Turn Down For What” with DJ Snake.

Dre Dre Credits Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” For Unifying Compton

Dr Dre has seen it all and done it all. He’s one of the pioneers of G-funk, and one of the most respected figures in the history of California hip-hop. His co-sign means a lot, which is why his appearance at the Pop Out show on Juneteeth was so special. Dr Dre introduced Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” in what turned out to be an iconic moment for the genre. Dre reflected on the performance during a chat with Complex Magazine, and how it was actually more important than fans might have realized at the time.

Dr Dre was questioned about Compton’s unity, or lack thereof, during the interview. He was fed a line from Vince Staples, who claimed that Compton gangs had been more unified than the media portrayed, and that Lamar’s Pop Out Show merely shined a light on it. Dr Dre disagreed with Staples’ take, but was hopeful that the success of “Not Like Us” will bring about change. “I’m not sure if that’s true or not,” Dr Dre asserted. “But I think Kendrick was able to bring that together for that moment. Hopefully that moment can move forward.”

Dr Dre Admits Things Feel “Different” After “Not Like Us”

Dre voiced uncertainty over the future, especially given the history of gang violence in the city. “I’m not sure if that’s possible or not,” he noted. “Because it’s gonna take more than just one event to get that accomplished. Once it’s done everybody goes home to their home teams. And then they go back.” The interviewer asked whether the Pop Out felt different from Dr Dre’s perspective, and he agreed. “It does feel different,” he noted. “But hopefully it can continue.” Snoop Dogg accompanied Dre during the interview, and he was similarly enthusiastic about Kendrick Lamar’s post-“Not Like Us” success.

Snoop Dogg was more aligned with Staples’ sentiments, but noted that someone of Kendrick Lamar’s caliber was needed to showcase it. “What Kendrick did was he united the whole city based off of him being a king,” the rapper noted. “Creating peace, giving homies the opportunity to come on stage. He’s about peace. He’s about love.” Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg credited Lamar’s big picture mentality to the fact that he doesn’t belong to any one gang. “He ain’t from no gang,” Snoop noted. “He’s from a city full of gangs and he unites cities.”

Dr. Dre Now Has A Gold Medal Winner Ready To Help Him Achieve His 2028 Olympics Dream

It’s too early to know who will be competing at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. We know at least one person who’d like to, though: Dr. Dre. He said a few days ago that he’s interested in competing in archery at the 2028 games, and his words caught the attention of somebody who could really help him work towards his goal.

Justin Huish, a two-time Olympic gold medal-winning archer, told TMZ he’s interested in linking up with Dre, saying, “Anyone can do it at any age. There’s not really an age limit. You can be a phenom and you don’t really know.” He added, “I’ll come to your house. I will train you. I will dedicate my time to train with you.”

Dre said last week of his history with archery, “Actually, I started playing around with archery in junior high, alright? I stopped for a while, and my son bought be a set-up… I don’t know if it was for my birthday or Father’s Day or something like that. So I have it set up in my backyard, and I heard that qualifying for the Olympics is 77 feet, and I practice at 90. Yeah, wouldn’t that be interesting to go, especially with it being here in LA, and win a gold medal? […] I feel like I can do anything.”

Dr Dre Gets Offer From Olympic Archer To Train With Him For 2028 Los Angeles Olympics

Dr. Dre recently revealed that he wants to try out for archery at the 2028 Olympic Games in his home city of Los Angeles. While many fans might have scoffed at this idea, there’s one very knowledgeable expert who is excited at the prospect: two-time Olympic gold medalist Justin Huish. As a fellow Cali native, the archer actually offered the legendary producer to train with him, telling TMZ Sports that he’s thrilled at the idea regardless of the 59-year-old’s age.

“Anyone can do it at any age,” Justin Huish said of Dr. Dre. “There’s not really an age limit. You can be a phenom and you don’t really know. I’ll come to your house. I will train you. I will dedicate my time to train with you. If you’re really serious about this, hit me up. We’ll make it happen!” “I have it set up in my backyard and I heard qualifying for the Olympics is 77 feet. I practice at 90,” Dre said of his past history with archery and how he picked it back up after dedicating much time to music. It would be great for him to represent his home city while they host the next Olympics, as long as he’s not replacing more deserving athletes.

However, Dr. Dre is also critical of this year’s events, particularly in regards to the talent that competed in breakdancing. “I did not like that,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “It’s so many great breakdancers that I don’t know why they had this particular person doing that.” Of course, many thought these comments referred to Australian B-Girl Raygun and her viral moves, but we don’t know for sure. Either way, the event sadly won’t return at L.A.’s Olympics, whether or not you enjoyed it this time around.

Elsewhere, Dr. Dre is also looking forward to completing his collab album with Snoop Dogg, Missionary. “This one is going to show a different level of maturity with his lyrics and with my music,” he remarked to Entertainment Tonight. “I feel like this is some of the best music I’ve done in my career. [It’s been] much more fun.” We’ll all patiently wait for the results.

Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg are reuniting for “Missionary,” and the album appears to be ready for November. According to Dr. Dre, it is being mixed.

“I wanted 14 songs, Snoop wants 16, so we have that thing happening [bumps his fists together],” Dre told Entertainment Tonight. “I’m on song number 11 as far as the mixes go. I have to be done and delivered by September 1st to have a November release.”

Dr. Dre revealed the album has music icon Sting as a feature before saying, “I shouldn’t have revealed that, to be honest.”

Last year, speaking on the project with From The Desk of Lo is The D.O.C., who revealed he would travel to L.A. to help finish the project and what fans would expect.

The D.O.C. reveals that his collaboration with, Snoop and Dre is long overdue, and they are focused on creating a great product. The album so far is a family reunion. “It sounds like what Snoop’s next record would’ve been like on Death Row, that’s what it sounds like.”

Dr Dre Blasts Olympics For Not Having Better Breakdancers In Competition

Dr Dre had lots of connections to the 2024 Olympics. His frequent collaborator, Snoop Dogg, was a torch bearer and meme machine during the games. Dre performed alongside Snoop during closing ceremonies. Plus, the next Olympic Games will be held in Los Angeles, meaning Dre and Snoop will effectively be everywhere. The legendary producer enjoyed the games for the most part, but he had huge problems with one competition in particular: breakdancing.

Dr Dre has been a hip-hop star since the 1980s, so he knows a thing or two about the four elements. He did not like (or recognize) what he say, however, during the Olympics. “I did not like that,” Dre explained to Entertainment Tonight. “It’s so many great breakdancers that I don’t know why they had this particular person doing that.” The person in question was “Raygun,” an Australian woman who went viral for being, well, bad at breakdancing. She got zero points from the judges, and became a meme overnight. Dr Dre admitted that the Raygun bit was funny, but lamented what could have been a real opportunity for a real dancer.

Dr Dre Thought ‘Raygun’ Mocked Breakdancing

“It was funny, I got some laughs out of it,” Dr Dre conceded. “But what the f*ck? There are incredible breakdancers out right now; I don’t know how that happened.” Dre wasn’t the only producer who had a problem with Raygun’s performance. Pete Rock hopped on Twitter during the breakdance competition and mocked the dancer’s moves. “Ooohhh sh*t,” he wrote. “Wait, that bunny hop kangaroo sh*t she was doing took me way down to floor. This is so messed up.” Dr Dre is going to do his part to ensure that the 2028 Olympics will be taking things a bit more seriously. How? Well, he plans to compete as an athlete.

Dr Dre told Entertainment Tonight that he plans to try out for the U.S. archery team. “I stopped for a while, and my son bought me a setup,” he explained. “I don’t know if it’s for my birthday or Father’s Day or something like that. So I have it set up in my backyard.” The producer noted that he first developed a passion for archery in middle school. “Wouldn’t that be interesting to go, especially with it being here in LA, and win the gold medal,” he pondered aloud. One thing’s for sure: he can’t do worse than Raygun.

Dr. Dre Wants To Try Out For The 2028 Summer Olympics

After a highly successful Summer Olympic Games in Paris, they passed the flag over to Los Angeles. The City of Angels is hosting the event in 2028, and it will certainly be a star-studded affair. Long Beach native Snoop Dogg, who served as a correspondent during the last two Games, will be unlikely to miss such a homecoming opportunity. The same goes for his partner-in-crime, Dr. Dre. Dre and Snoop performed at a special event on Venice Beach to celebrate the handoff. Now, Dre confirms that he will be in Los Angeles in four years. It is reasonable to assume that he will perform at the opening ceremony. However, he surprised fans when he told Nischelle Turner of Entertainment Tonight that he plans to try out for Olympic competition.

In the interview, Dre announced that he plans to try out for the 2028 Olympics. When Turner asked what sport he was interested in, he gave a surprising answer. “Archery,” he said. “I’m deadass serious.” Dre admitted that he’s been an avid archer for much of his life. He revealed to Turner that he had been on his junior high school’s archery team. He took a break from the sport when his music career blossomed into what it is today, but picked it back up when his son bought him equipment for Father’s Day.

Dr. Dre To Try Out For Olympic Archery In 2028

“I have it set up in my backyard and I heard qualifying for the Olympics is 77 feet. I practice at 90,” Dre added. If he qualifies for the 2028 Summer Olympics, he would be among the oldest athletes to ever compete. He would be 63 years old in Los Angeles. The oldest athlete to compete at the 2024 Paris Games was Juan Antonio Jiménez Cobo, a Spanish equestrian.

Aside from his Olympic dreams, Dre has enjoyed a strong year. He and Snoop Dogg are working on Missionary, the long-awaited sequel to Snoop’s legendary debut album Doggystyle. He made a cameo at Kendrick Lamar’s The Pop Out concert, playing “California Love” before introducing “Not Like Us,” which Lamar played five times. Dre is aiming high for the Los Angeles Olympic Games, and being able to compete in front of his hometown would be an unforgettable honor.

Dr. Dre Is ‘Dead-Ass Serious’ About Wanting To Compete In The 2028 Olympics

Dr. Dre ended up playing a role in the 2024 Olympics, when he joined Snoop Dogg on stage for a Closing Ceremony performance. Dre would like to also be involved in the 2028 edition in Los Angeles, not as entertainment, but as an actual competitor in a sport he knows well.

In a recent interview with ET (video here), Dre said, “I’m trying to try out for the Olympics in 2028.” After some jokes about this year’s viral breakdancing sensation Raygun, Dre went on to say he’s “dead-ass serious” about wanting to compete in archery.

This isn’t just a new interest, as it’s apparently something that’s been a part of Dre’s life for a while now. He explained, “Actually, I started playing around with archery in junior high, alright? I stopped for a while, and my son bought be a set-up… I don’t know if it was for my birthday or Father’s Day or something like that. So I have it set up in my backyard, and I heard that qualifying for the Olympics is 77 feet, and I practice at 90.
