Kendrick & Drake’s Beef Has Us Revisiting “No Vaseline” By Ice Cube Nearly 33 Years Later

We are five months into the 2024 calendar year, and the way to define hip-hop this year has been the revival of rap beefs and diss tracks. We have seen multiple high-profile names butt heads like Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj, Quavo and Chris Brown, and of course Drake versus Kendrick Lamar. The latter has become the talk of the town for nearly two months now and it does not appear to be slowing down. All of these current feuds have had us going to back the OG diss tracks like “No Vaseline” by Ice Cube.

This 1991 classic is widely viewed as one of the quintessential diss records and it shows why the competitive nature of the genre is so important to its success. Of course, previous generations who were old enough to understand the magnitude of “No Vaseline” do not need the backstory. But for the modern hip-hop fan who is growing to understand the importance of a Drake versus Kendrick, for example, here are the essential facts to know. According to Genius, Ice Cube, who was one of the 90’s big-ticket rappers, was also known for his time with N.W.A.

In 1989, Cube was having financial disagreements with the legendary West Coast group’s manager Jerry Heller. Because of that he parted ways, but members of the rap posse were not happy about it. So much so that they went on to diss Cube on two separate occasions. Those were “Real N****z” and “Message to B.A.” Sir Jinx, the producer of “No Vaseline,” went onto explain Ice’s decision to clap back at his former crewmates. “We never wanted to beef with [Dr.] Dre and them. It wasn’t like that. The crowd saw it like that, but it was not like that. It was only [Ice Cube standing up for himself],” Jinx said. The group would never go on to respond after the song dropped. After Dr. Dre left N.W.A. for almost identical reasons, the group disbanded. So, in a way, Cube bouncing was seemingly a sign that the group was headed downhill. Essentially, “No Vaseline” was a way of saying “I told you so,” which is why it is so great.

Tokyo Toni Goes After JT & Lil Uzi Vert Amid Sukihana Beef

As of late, JT and Sukihana have been wrapped up in a heated feud, prompted by the release of the City Girl’s new single “Okay.” Some listeners speculated that JT dissed Suki with the line “She ate crab legs, now her whole tooth missin’,” though she denies this. While Sukihana seemingly agreed that the line wasn’t aimed at her, she later took to Twitter/X to accuse JT of using cocaine, which sparked a spirited response.

JT called Suki a plethora of names, suggested that she only started drama with her for clout, and more. Instead of keeping her insults online, Suki decided to hit the studio and dropped a full-blown diss track today. In the song, which is fittingly titled “Cocaine,” she throws jabs at both JT and her partner Lil Uzi Vert.

JT has yet to respond, though Suki may not be the only one she needs to address. Recently, Tokyo Toni added herself to the mix, unleashing one of her infamous freestyles on JT. Instead of taking her seriously, however, JT simply reacted to the diss with a white flag emoji. This wasn’t enough for Tokyo, who later took to Instagram Live with more words for the “Sideways” rapper. In a new clip, she goes in on JT and Lil Uzi, accusing the two of them of being “demonic.”

She also claimed that she’d be telling Suki to “whoop her a**,” and that if Suki was her real daughter, she’d do it herself. Drake’s “The Heart Part 6” Reaches 1 Million Dislikes On YouTube

Drake’s latest diss track aimed at Kendrick Lamar, “The Heart Part 6,” has received over one million dislikes on YouTube as the Compton rapper’s fans have flooded the page. On the song, he denies Lamar’s accusations of pedophilia, accuses him of being abusive towards his partner, Whitney Alford, and claims he fed him false information about having a daughter.

When The Hip-Hop Wolf shared the news on Instagram, fans had mixed feelings. One user wrote: “The hate train is crazy. He needs to disappear for a minute. Music will be so trash that folks will start wanting his music. Kendrick not consistent enough. So enjoy now. I remember Jay-Z actually going through the same thing as far as people turning on him.” Another fan of Drake wrote: “Y’all are so corny! The trend is to hate Drake so you do it! Y’all can’t think for yourselves.”

Lamar and Drake have been beefing since the release of Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That,” back in March. On that song, Lamar called out both Drake and J. Cole for mentioning him on “First Person Shooter.” They’ve been dropping diss tracks aimed at one another incessantly in the time since. Last weekend, the drama climaxed when the two dropped “Family Matters” and “Meet The Grahams” on the same night and then followed it up with “Not Like This” and “The Heart Part 6” over Saturday and Sunday.

DJ Akademiks Recalls Drake’s 30-Minute Warning Before “Family Matters” Dropped

On Friday, Drake kicked off what would become a historic night with the release of his Kendrick Lamar diss track, “Family Matters.” On it, he accuses the rapper of domestic violence, claims that one of his fiancée’s kids might actually be Dave Free’s, and more. Within the hour, Kendrick fired back with “Meet The Grahams,” leaving hip-hop fans everywhere in shambles.

DJ Akademiks was on stream when the chaos unfolded, capturing the collective shock live with his viewers. According to him, however, this wasn’t a coincidence. During a recent episode of Andrew Schulz’s Flagrant with Akaash Singh, the internet personality looked back on the adrenaline-filled moments after getting a 30-minute warning from Drake himself.

According to Ak, he asked Drake to give him a heads-up before dropping anything to ensure that he’d be able to react to it live. At that point, Drizzy told him, “You have 30 minutes, get on stream.” He was out at the time and immediately told his crew they needed to rush home. “I said ‘Beeline for the door, get the driver outside. We’re going back to Jersey. We might have to run tolls, we might have to drive the wrong way.’” He went on, revealing that he managed to make it home with ten minutes to spare.

While DJ Akademiks got a warning that Drake would be dropping, he emphasized that he didn’t actually get to hear the song before the world did. He says that he prefers to hear things live with his audience in order to provide them with a genuine reaction. Sukihana Gets Real Graphic As She Fires Back At JT With “COCAINE” Diss Track

“She ate crab legs, now her whole tooth missing / Cheap a** veneers, you stay talking s*** / Put a marker to this b****, she’s so counterfeit.” Those were the bars up for debate on “Okay,” which is the latest single from Florida femcee, JT. There was belief that it was either a shot at Cardi B, or Delaware’s Sukihana. It turns it was not a diss at either artist, as JT recently cleared up the speculation. However, it was not handled in the way that you might think. “Sukihana You KNEW I wasn’t talking about YOU I would’ve answered quicker if you didn’t try to do a 2 for 1 special,” JT wrote on X on May 3. “I never knew your tooth fell out from eating crab legs you go viral for stupid s*** Daily.”

The posts got more severe, as JT was really upset at Sukihana for not reaching out to her directly to clear the air. The City Girls running mate also was of the belief that Suki was handling it in this way so she could get some attention. In her final message, JT laid down the hammer. “Search my page I been supporting you never had an issue with you so why would I enter a booth & think of YOU? sewer p**sy???!” That last blow might have set Sukihana over the edge, as now she is taking direct shots at her new foe on “COCAINE.”

Also, if you are wondering why it is called “COCAINE,” it is because of these X posts. “Y’all pray for me nothing wrong it’s just Jt lips use to be so white. She pretty then a mufuka but she be doing cocainnnn.” This beef has certainly reached new heights.

Sukihana Disses JT & Lil Uzi Vert On New Track “Cocaine” And Gets Accused Of Transphobia In The Process

Sukihana and JT have been going back and forth on social media as of late. Overall, it seems like Suki has some problems with JT, and it has led to some pretty wild allegations. For instance, Suki has been saying that JT is a cocaine addict. The former City Girls members subsequently said that they were no longer cool with one another. 2024 has been the year of rap beef, and it appears as though Sukihana has been inspired by the diss tracks from Kendrick Lamar and Drake.

On Wednesday morning, Sukihana dropped off a brand new track called “Cocaine.” The song is very clearly pointed at JT, and contains a plethora of disses. In fact, the song also takes a swipe at the relationship between JT and Lil Uzi Vert. However, some of the bars are already being called out for including blatant transphobia. “You ain’t lying when you say you look like a trans, your n***a only fuck wit you because you look like a man,” Sukihana raps.

In the comments over at The Neighborhood Talk, one fan noted that transphobia and homophobia isn’t going to cut it. “The pure trans and homo phobia isn’t gone slide just cause this is a ‘rAp BeEf,’” they wrote. Another fan was simply confused as to why Suki is beefing with JT in the first place. “Listen. Suki you doing too much why you starting all this shit with her?” they said. “Side note you may be better as a diss rapper than anything i can’t lie. But still like JT never did shit to you something’s wrong here.” Needless to say, this is a feud that no one expected, yet here we are.

Metro Boomin has updated the terms of his viral “BBL Drizzy” contest, adding a $10,000 reward for the winner in addition to the already promised free beat. Additionally, a runner-up will now receive a free beat as well. Metro announced the decision in a post on Twitter, on Monday. He wrote: “Update to the contest! Winner gets $10k and a beat. Runner up gets a beat as well. #bbldrizzybeatgiveaway.”

Metro shared the “BBL Drizzy” beat online over the weekend while announcing the contest. He’s been retweeting some of his favorite submissions in the time since. Drake seemingly replied to the diss beat by remarking on social media: “You just cheffed a beat about my a**?”

Fans of Kendrick Lamar have given Drake’s name a new acronym on social media after the release of “The Heart Part 6.” Users have been sharing “Don’t Rap Against Kendrick Ever” as they declare the “Not Like Us” rapper the winner of the beef. Drake released the polarizing “The Heart Part 6” on Sunday night, denying the allegations Lamar had made against him.

When Hollywood Unlocked shared the acronym on Instagram, fans had mixed feelings. “Kendrick did a deep dive while Drake was swimming in shallow waters. K E N D R I C K,” one user wrote. Charlamagne Tha God says that Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s ongoing feud is the most interesting he’s ever witnessed. Discussing the latest drama in the beef during Monday morning’s episode of The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne proclaimed that Lamar is currently winning. Lamar dropped “Meet The Grahams” and “Not Like Us” over the weekend while Drake released “Family Matters” and “The Heart Part 6.”

Charlamagne began discussing the topic by giving both artists props. He added: “They both gave us what I believe to be the greatest rap battle I have ever witnessed, personally. The two best of their generation in their prime. Never had a rap battle given us this much music. Every time one of them drops, the other person answered and musically, I don’t think either one of them missed a beat. That was just my personal opinion but if you ask me who is up right now, it’s Kendrick. And it’s simply because his strategy has been better. He dropped the ‘6:16’ record on Friday afternoon which caused Drake to drop ‘Family Matters’ Friday night and in no less than 30 minutes, Kendrick stepped on that record with his own record about Drake’s family, ‘Meet The Grahams.’ Then Kendrick turned around and did what we was waiting on Drake to do and that’s give us a diss bop. Mack Maine is facing backlash on social media for voicing his support for Drake on Twitter following the release of “The Heart Part 6.” On the song, Drake denies the pedophile accusations Kendrick Lamar made against him. Fans resurfaced multiple creepy comments Maine has made about Miley Cyrus from over the years in response to him sharing the track.

For starters, one user brought up Young Money’s “Every Girl,” on which Maine raps: “In about three years, holla at me, Miley Cyrus.” Other fans shared a tweet from 2009 in which Mack allegedly wrote: “Happy bdayyyyyyyyyy 2 my babygirl Miley Cyrus….17yrs old…1 more yr… luv.”
