Kanye West Reportedly Misses Deposition In Lawsuit Over Alleged Racial Discrimination

Earlier this year, Kanye West was hit with a lawsuit by former Donda Academy and Yeezy employee Benjamin Deshon Provo. Provo, an ex-security guard, accuses Ye of racial bias and improper workplace behavior. “Kanye and members of his management team subjected Provo and other black employees to less favorable treatment than their white counterparts,” the lawsuit alleges. “Specifically, Kanye frequently screamed at and berated black employees, while in contrast, he never so much as raised his tone of voice toward white staff.”

According to AllHipHop, Ye was scheduled to provide a deposition last week but did not show up. Reportedly, Provo’s team informed Ye of the deposition this month and has not heard back about rescheduling. They’re stressing the urgency of the situation, arguing that Ye’s deposition is necessary for them to prepare for trial.

“It is crucial that Provo’s counsel obtain this deposition in a timely manner to ascertain all relevant, pertinent facts in this case to allow Provo to fully prosecute his claims and prepare for trial,” they explained. They’re seeking an order to compel Ye to appear for questioning. A February hearing has been scheduled to address the situation. They’re also asking for $1,760 in compensation for West’s failure to attend the deposition.

Reports of Ye missing his deposition come just days after it was revealed that Ye settled a class action lawsuit over allegedly unpaid wages to Yeezy employees. According to Baller Alert, he settled for $625K. This will reportedly go to former employees represented by the lawsuit and their legal representation. What do you think of Kanye West reportedly failing to show up for a scheduled deposition in a lawsuit? Live Nation CEO Ordered To Attend Deposition For Travis Scott Astroworld Disaster

While Travis Scott and Live Nation are slowly getting out of the woods when it comes to the Astroworld Festival tragedy in 2021, things aren’t over. In case you didn’t know, the concert series resulted in ten dead and hundreds injured following a catastrophic crowd crush during Scott’s headlining set, prompting investigations and hundreds of lawsuits against him and the touring company for mismanagement, lack of planning, unfulfilled safety guidelines, and other similar issues. Even though La Flame and Live Nation settled most of these lawsuits, the Texas Supreme Court continues to litigate as a jury trial is on the horizon.

Furthermore, the court reportedly ruled last week on October 15 (per Billboard) that Live Nation’s CEO, Michael Rapino, must face a deposition for his alleged involvement in the Travis Scott Astroworld disaster. The company had petitioned to halt the move, as they accused victims of using him as a scapegoat to “harass Live Nation and to coerce settlements.” But the Texas Supreme Court upheld a judge’s ruling earlier this summer that orders Rapino to testify. Some victims continue to move in the direction of a jury trial, but a purported bellwether trial faced a delay to February of next year from an original start date of this week.

As for why the court delayed this trial, it’s due to the various settlements that Travis Scott and Live Nation reached. Nevertheless, the latter argued that Michael Rapino was “not involved in the festival” or its decision-making process. “Mr. Rapino’s only connection to the festival was as Live Nation’s ultimate executive,” defense attorneys expressed. “Any knowledge he may possess was obtained from others who have knowledge superior to his own.” In response, victims’ lawyers cited an email that Rapino sent the night of the tragedy, telling the company’s festival director to hold off on canceling the festival until they had more updates on the death toll. “If 5 died we would cancel,” he reportedly wrote.

“Remarkably, Live Nation claims that Rapino was not the decision-maker on whether to cancel the Festival,” victims’ attorneys shared. “This email proves otherwise, and plaintiffs want an opportunity to examine Rapino about it.” They claim that Live Nation’s legal team obfuscated Michael Rapino’s actual involvement in the decision-making process of Travis Scott’s festival. We still have no word on when this deposition would take place, so keep checking in with HNHH for the latest updates.

YNW Melly’s Mother & Fredo Bang Deposition Dates Revealed Amid YNW Juvy Estate’s Lawsuit

YNW Melly has been behind bars for several years now. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like he’ll be getting out anytime soon. The 25-year-old rapper was arrested back in 2019 for his alleged role in the murders of YNW Juvy and YNW SakChaser. If convicted, he faces life in prison or the death penalty. His retrial is scheduled to begin in September of next year.

Melly is also facing civil lawsuits from both SakChaser and Juvy’s estates, which recently got a major update. According to Bryson “Boom” Paul, Melly’s mother Jamie King and Fredo Bang are scheduled to give video depositions as part of the Juvy lawsuit on September 26 and 27 of this year.

Jamie King & Fredo Bang To Give Video Depositions On September 26 & 27

This latest development comes only weeks after Melly’s lawyer Bradford Cohen put Florida prosecutors on blast in an Instagram post. He accused them of mishandling the case from the beginning, making it clear that he’s outraged by how things have played out so far. “Essentially, the Broward State Attorneys Office really screwed this case up,” he wrote. “I have never seen anything like it. Literally refused to pass this case to an unconflicted state attorneys office after the defense listed one of their own state attorneys as a witness. They wanted to be able to cross examine the state attorney that was what amounted to a whistle blower and testified that a police officer lied.”

It also follows Melly’s mother calling for the case to be dismissed altogether after the new retrial date was announced. At the time, she also revealed that Melly is not allowed phone calls, contact with other inmates, or visits. What do you think of YNW Melly’s mother and Fredo Bang giving depositions later this year? 50 Cent Accused Of Skipping Deposition In Microphone Throwing Case

50 Cent is a busy man. Between selling documentaries to Netflix and squashing beefs with Tyler Perry, the rapper apparently forgot about his court date. 50 was sued by Power 106 host Bryhana Monegain for allegedly throwing a microphone at her during a 2023 performance. Monegain made several attempts to get the rapper in court for a deposition. According to documents obtained by In Touch Weekly, however, 50 Cent has missed all of them. The latest of these deposition dates was set for June 13.

Monegain’s legal team have reportedly asked 50 Cent for a convenient deposition date multiple times. He has not provided them with one, and did not appear at the aforementioned June 13 date. Monegain’s team is now requesting the court’s help in getting the rapper to show up. A motion was filed to order 50 to appear before a judge on the rescheduled date of August 5. “Due to the pendency of the August 5, 2024, mediation date,” the document read. “An Order compelling [50] to sit for deposition and provide testimony must be made forthwith.” Monegain is seeking $5K in sanctions.

The incident that spawned the lawsuit happened on August 3, 2023. Bryhana Monegain attended 50 Cent’s show at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. She claimed that the rapper noticed his mic was malfunctioning during his performance, and promptly threw it into the crowd. Monegain then stated that the microphone struck her in the face, causing lasting injuries. She not only claimed that the microphone incident caused her emotional distress, due to medical bills, but specific, painful, physical injuries as well. The court documents state that the Power 106 host suffered a “concussion, a forehead laceration and bruises to her body.”

50 Cent’s lawyer, Scott Leemon, dismissed these claims outright. “Let’s be very clear,” the lawyer told Page Six. “As I told LAPD this afternoon, my client, Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson, would never intentionally strike anyone with a microphone. Anyone saying something different doesn’t have all the facts and is misinformed.” Monegain filed a police report against the rapper, but the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office did not move forward with charges.

Man Who Killed Nicki Minaj’s Father In Hit-&-Run Wants To Question Her For $150 Million Lawsuit

Charles Polevich, the 70-year-old man who killed Nicki Minaj’s father, Robert Maraj, in a hit-and-run back in 2021, wants the rapper to appear in a deposition for an ongoing $150 million lawsuit. He claims Nicki has “knowledge and information that is material and necessary to the defense of the claims set forth in this action.” Specifically, she can apparently attest to her father’s allegedly abusive behavior. Nicki’s mother, Carol, is suing the man, claiming his behavior caused her to lose “services, society, comfort, companionship and consortium.”

Polevich, on the other hand, argues that Robert was “reckless, careless, and negligent in crossing the street.” His attorney added: “My client empathizes with the family. The question of whether there was negligence and degrees of negligence will be determined by the court. The $150 million amount seems to be over the top.”

According to new documents obtained by RadarOnline.com, the proposed deposition of Nicki will regard “questions wherein the issue of domestic abuse is discussed.” The filing adds that “[Carol] acknowledges that statements related to the topic of domestic abuse were made by [Nicki] but [Carol] does not offer meaningful responses regarding the veracity of the statements made.” In response, Carol’s attorneys argue her daughter is not a part of the lawsuit and “to have her testify as to musical lyrics, which could be completely made up, false, and taken out of context, was a waste of time and borderline harassment for the family.”

Emimen Gets Response From “Real Housewives” Stars Over Copyright Deposition Request

Eminem’s had his fair share of legal battles over the years, but his latest might be one of his most bizarre yet. Moreover, he sought to block a trademark application from Real Housewives guests Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon for their podcast Reasonably Shady, as it conflicts with his Slim Shady alter ego. However, it seems like Marshall Mathers wants only his legal team to handle this, as when the Real Housewives of Potomac stars filed to deposition him, he motioned for a protective order against it. This is because he apparently has little information about this legal process and its context, to which Bryant and Dixon responded to via their lawyer, Andrea Evans.

“It seems obvious to us that if you file a lawsuit, you should be made available to be deposed,” she told PEOPLE of Eminem’s legal filing. “[We would like to question Mathers at least about his use of the expressions Slim Shady and Shady. It’s unclear to us that Mathers can be the owner of the trademarks and file this suit against our clients but he will not make himself available to be deposed.

“Opposer’s Motion to Compel the deposition of Mathers is also premature and unwarranted,” Eminem’s lawyer expressed. “Despite Opposer’s expression that the deposition would be both duplicative and unduly burdensome given Mathers’ limited knowledge of the subjects at issue, his absence of unique knowledge of the subjects at issue and others’ superior knowledge of said issues, Applicants have made no attempt to obtain the discovery they seek via more convenient and less burdensome means.

“Opposer has offered to produce three other individuals having equal and superior knowledge to Mathers on the relevant topics,” he went on. “However, without making any attempt to assess whether they will be able to obtain the relevant information from said individuals, and having taken no depositions to date, Applicants remain insistent on deposing Mathers, a high-level and removed decision maker. Accordingly, Applicants’ Motion to Compel should be denied. Opposer asks this Board to issue a protective order precluding the deposition of Marshall Mathers III.” For more news and the latest updates on Eminem, come back to HNHH.

Eminem Requests Protective Order Amid “Real Housewives” Trademark Battle

In February of this year, Eminem moved to block a trademark application from Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon. The two Real Housewives cast members host a podcast called Reasonably Shady. According to “the real Slim Shady,” trademarking the name of their podcast would make confusion “unavoidable.”

Recently, according to legal documents obtained by AllHipHop, Bryant and Dixon filed a motion to compel him for a deposition. In response, Eminem requested a protective order, and argued that a deposition is “unwarranted.” His legal team claims that the rapper has “limited knowledge” of the matter at hand. They also say that there are far more qualified individuals available to answer their questions.

Drake’s Astroworld Deposition Was “Several Hours” Long, Details Have Yet To Surface

As one of the most recognized figures in the music industry, it’s not uncommon for Drake to run into legal issues. For the most part, the 36-year-old manages to stay out of trouble more than some of his contemporaries, though his performance at the 2021 Astroworld Festival with Travis Scott has been haunting him for the past two years. As his legal team previously argued, Champagne Papi had no part in planning the actual event, though he was on stage with La Flame during a massive crowd crush that caused 10 people to lose their lives two years ago.

“I’ve spent the past few days trying to wrap my mind around this devastating tragedy,” Drake wrote on his Instagram Story shortly after the incident. “I hate resorting to this platform to express an emotion as delicate as grief but this is where I find myself, My heart is broken for the families and friends of those who lost their lives, and for anyone who is suffering. I will continue to pray for all of them, and be of service in any way I can. May God be with you all,” the Canadian further empathized.

Drake Deposed Two Years After Astroworld Tragedy

According to Rolling Stone, yesterday (November 9), Drizzy finally sat down for a deposition regarding the 2021 Astroworld Festival that lasted “several hours.” Details about the “Over” hitmaker’s conversation with authorities are sparse for now. “Due to orders in the case, I don’t feel it is appropriate to comment on the matter,” Drake’s team told the outlet when they reached out.

Many already know that the legal process is a typically slow-moving one. Aside from Drake’s deposition just now finally taking place, Travis Scott also has new lawsuits naming him. The father of two wasn’t given criminal charges by a grand jury. However, he still has several civil cases that have yet to wrap up. Read more about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Travis Scott Hit With Hours Of Questioning During First Astroworld Lawsuit Deposition

Travis Scott may be on a high from his new album Utopia, but he has a lot to think about outside of music. He is currently facing upwards of 1,500 lawsuits stemming from the Astroworld Festival tragedy. Overall, 10 people died in the crowd at his 2021 hometown festival show. It was a truly tragic event that is still talked about to this day. Although he has been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing, many are still seeking justice for what took place.

On Monday, according to Billboard, Travis Scott took part in an eight-hour deposition in regard to the lawsuits against him. While we don’t know the specifics of what was asked, it is clear that Scott is cooperating with authorities. There is a lot of money at stake here, and both sides have to do their due diligence in order for the proper outcome to take place. However, there is a gag order in place, so do not expect any specific details from the deposition to be released.

“Travis Scott’s deposition is typical legal procedure. What is not typical is how the media continues to focus on him despite being cleared of any wrongdoing by extensive government investigations, including by the Houston Police Department,” Scott spokesperson Ted Anastasiou said, per Billboard. “Travis is fully cooperating with the legal process while still remaining committed to his tour in support of his record-breaking album, Utopia, and his charitable efforts to support at-risk communities.”

The families of the victims of this tragedy have been through a lot of pain. Our hearts continue to go out to them during this difficult time. Over the coming months, more details from these cases will be brought to light. Stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates regarding this developing story. Kelsey Harris Could Be Found In Contempt Of Court For Megan Thee Stallion 1501 Case

Recently, Megan Thee Stallion saw a court case she’s been involved in since 2020 come to a close. That came yesterday when Tory Lanez was officially sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan in the foot 3 years ago. Now there’s another case dating all the way back to 2020 that Megan is looking to have solved. That’s her suit against her former label 1501 Entertainment and one of its executives Carl Crawford. Furthermore, Megan is calling on the court to hold her ex-bestie Kelsey Harris in contempt.

According to The Neighborhood Talk, Megan Thee Stallion’s legal team has asked the judge to hold Harris in contempt of court for ignoring a deposition she was asked to participate in. The deposition was supposed to take place on June 21st, but Harris never showed. She was deposed in order to get information about 1501 including what the executives knew about an alleged plan to sabotage Megan’s releases on the label and whether or not she had their endorsement when releasing a diss track. If she is ultimately found in contempt it could result in a fine or containment for Harris.

Elsewhere other fans make jokes about the wins Megan has collected recently. “Baby Megan got a praying grandmother!!! Cus he is for sure setting her table in the presence of her enemies. AMEN!” Finally, some took shots at Kelsey Harris directly. “For someone who screamed this would all come out in court she refuses to speak in court.”

Megan herself appears to be shifting the focus away from the lawsuits and back to music. Subsequently she’s taken the opportunity to tease fans with the potential of new material a few times recently. The most promising being pics from the studio where she appeared to be getting back into album mode.
